Some of the best fried chicken you will have in Upstate NY! Silo has two locations, at the Liquid State Brewery in Ithaca, NY and on Thursday's June through October at The Pumpkin Stand in Ovid, NY. I have yet to stop by these locations and though I am 100% sure that the quality, flavors and service are still top notch my review is solely based on their very busy food truck. I have visited this food truck at many local events. Their chicken is sustainably farmed, all-natural, and free-range. All of the ingredients they use are from local, organic farmers. All of their chicken is bone-in dark meat. Each bite is moist and flavorful. My favorites are the Green Coconut Curry which is a 1/2 lb. of fried chicken with green curry over purple coconut sticky rice, greens & house-made Asian Trio pickles. The Telekinetic Chicken has a seasonal fusion BBQ sauce on the fried chicken along with the sticky rice and pickles. Both are flavor popping perfection. The sides are also created fresh and are delicious. Silo also makes a mac & cheese that is to die for! They make their own béchamel sauce as well as use NY extra sharp cheddar cheese. They have many variations of their Mac and cheese to try! The owners are amazing, always interacting with their customers, and showing them how much they enjoy what they do. I went to Silo Chicken Truck in Liquid State Brewery recently and ordered 1 lb of chicken, the Silo Mac & Cheese, and the Wizard Green Curry fries. Most fried chicken has a lovely aroma and is flavorful only on the outer crispy skin but the inside has no taste, that is not the case with Silo food truck! I found the chicken to be juicy and flavorful! Also for sauces we got the Honey Mustard, the Gravy (HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!), and the Red Pepper Mayo. On to the mac & cheese! I want to preface by saying that I am not the biggest fan of Mac & Cheese in general and I found Silo's to be slightly flavorless. It was a very creamy dish that lacked spices/seasonings. I would skip this and opt for maybe one of the flavored Mac & Cheeses (but you're not missing too much if you skip this entirely). The Wizard Green Curry Fries were also pretty mediocre to me. I thought the "coconut curry" sauce tasted nothing like green coconut curry. It mores tasted like a tamarind chutney that you might get at an Indian restaurant. I love green curry so these greatly disappointed me. I feel like if I were to come again, I would get the plain fries or the Disco Fries. The fries themselves were salty, thin, and delicious! I ordered the gluten'ous' to the Maximus which came with Mac n cheese and also got fries on the side. I didn't care for the chicken much to be honest. It wasn't even really hot when I started eating it. The Mac n cheese was pretty good but also had crunchy spots in it as if the pasta wasn't cooked or was just old. Thus was the first time trying Silos and we were mostly pleased with the food we purchased. The chicken was good, the grilled cornbread was a great option to try, but the mac and cheese was the home run for us. The only misfire was the fries, a lot were WAY over cooked, and really not edible, which was a shame as everything was worth coming in Ithaca to get. Staff were so rude I didn't even get the chance to like it. I went to meet some friends for lunch on their patio area but had already gotten a sandwich elsewhere because it was a spontaneous last minute decision. I didn't know about their strict no outside food policy because I had never been before. That was my mistake; however, one of the staff approached me and pointed out this policy in a very rude manor implying I had to leave. I obliged and thought that was a one time bad interaction. Once I was outside I sat away from the brewery and food track planning on eating my sandwich and then returning to order a beer and sit with my friends. However, a different staff member came outside to tell me I couldn't eat anywhere in the area, even though I was not in their restaurant or truck area, and stating their policy again extremely rudely like I had not heard and respected it. Big fan of Silo's fried chicken! It definitely hits the spot and haven't found any other fried chicken in Ithaca I enjoy more. Their mac and cheese is also pretty good but I usually order their green curry entree because I think the purple rice is pretty unique and tasty. Will note however I'm not the biggest fan of the cornbread, I think it could be much more corny to say the least, and also while not pictured I came with a friend who got the tofu sandwich and was pretty underwhelmed so maybe not the best option for vegetarians. I tried my friend's fried tofu sandwich and it was amazing. I ordered the same thing except I paid $1 extra to substitute salad greens for the bun. I expected this would be an entree sized dinner salad, considering it was just under $20 between the extra fee, tax, and a 15% tip. I was served 3 pieces of fried tofu on top of ~10 pieces of spinach. I wish I had said something at the time because it was a hilariously small portion. I opted for the creamy cilantro coleslaw which was fine, not much flavor, but this side portion coleslaw was literally more food than the tofu salad. If you are going to come here, I recommend a chicken or tofu sandwich to get your money's worth and not leave hungry. read more

Silo is DELICIOUS. We ate in at the brewery and it was amazing. A couple near misses still don't detract from the greatest hits of this meal. I ordered the "fried" with cornbread and coleslaw, and my fiancé ordered the regular chicken sandwich with cornbread. The chicken was moist and the coating was flavorful. The cornbread was moist and cakey and the honey butter was *chefs kiss*. The coleslaw was a letdown - far too vinegary for me. Literally, there was liquid pooled around the sides. I think next time I would try the cilantro slaw. We also got the Mac and cheese to share. It was great - no doubt thanks to that good old NY cheddar. They do serve it with the bechamel and cheese poured on top of the boiled noodles which was weird but we just had to mix it up. My fiancé wasn't too impressed by the sandwich so I'll try it myself next time to compare. And definitely going to get the Asian fried chicken with sticky rice! I have tried almost everything on the Silo menu and everything is truly delicious. My personal favorite is the ham and pickle Mac and cheese or the spicy orgasmic. They have the BEST fried chicken. The staff has the BEST vibes. Their whole concept being farm to food truck is inspiring (you can see specifically where their product is locally sourced directly on their website..which I also think is super cool). 5 stars and 2 thumbs up from me all around. This food is outstandingly delicious! We ordered the fried chicken, the french fries, the macaroni and cheese, the corn bread and the sticky rice. The fried chicken was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The corn bread was exceptional. I think it is the best corn bread I have ever eaten. The macaroni and cheese was also exceptional. It is made with several different types of cheeses. The only thing that fell short was the sticky rice which was good, but nowhere near as delicious as everything else. I would definitely recommend this place and we will go again! read more
