Silos This review is all about the evening and dinner.... The service was excellent. I'd say everything--from the cocktails to the desserts--was absolutely delicious. I should mention a few things. Arianna was very professional. As for the menu, I'd say they should check the quality of the meat. The ribeye was medium-rare but tough and chewy. As an Italian, I must congratulate the chef on the night of June 17, as he prepared a wonderful Bolognese--truly flavorful and flawless, with the right ingredients and its perfect cooking. The pasta was excellent. The other thing I have to praise was that Espresso--finally, BRAVO!--served in its proper cup, with its saucer, and its espresso spoon. Fantastic! You rarely see this in other restaurants that claim to know what they're doing. This has already been mentioned, but you should expand the wine list. See you next year. read more

My wife, some friends, and I made a trip up to the Duluth area to enjoy a few activities, and after a long day we were ready to grab something to eat. We came across Silos and figured it looked like a great spot to try. Parking wasn't terrible, but since the lot is shared by several nearby businesses, it was tough to find a good spot on a weekend. Once we parked and walked in, we were seated fairly quickly, which was a plus. That said, it did take a while before our server even acknowledged us. By the time he came over, we had been sitting for quite a bit, so we went ahead and ordered everything right away. My wife and I ordered the walleye cakes and a few drinks. When the drinks came out, my wife's Diet Pepsi was missing, so I had to ask our server to get it. For dinner, I ordered the Norwegian salmon with lemon pepper green beans and garlic mashed potatoes which was a wonderful combination. My wife had the seafood pasta, but it wasn't quite what the menu described. Not sure if there was a new chef or if something changed in the kitchen. Overall, it wasn't a bad first visit. There were some bumps, but the location is great--right off Lake Superior with outdoor seating and a beautiful view. The atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing, the menu has solid options, and when the food is prepared right, it's full of flavor. The drinks were also really good, even the virgin margarita was a smash hit. A few things could definitely be improved: service felt slow even though it wasn't very busy, and there wasn't any welcome or smiles when we arrived, just kind of routine. Parking can be tough, and if you have mobility issues, even the short walk from out front could be a bit much. That said, we're open to giving it another try. There are other items on the menu we're curious to try, and we visit Duluth at least once or twice a year so hopefully next time, the service will step up and this place can become one of our go-to spots. read more

I ordered the bacon cheeseburger with sweet potato fries and a very affordable Weller CYPB. The cook in the burger was perfect. It was messy but in a good way. The fries were also cooked perfectly and have a slight cinnamon taste to them. The Weller is spicy for only being a 95 proof but delicious. The bartender was friendly and attentive. The busier it got the less talkative she was but I was cool with that since I was also working. I recommend this restaurant even if you are not staying at the hotel. This is the second time I have eaten here. The first time was just as good. read more

In agreement with the overall scoring 2.9 stars for this place. Went with a party of 6, so we tried a variety of dishes. Good thing we had great company because the service was slow for a pretty empty morning. Positives: music and ambiance created relaxes vibes, flavorful breakfast potatoes, SPAM cooked well for the Monte Cristo Negatives: poached eggs came hard-boiled, brussel sprouts in omelet were too thick/undercooked, small omelet (not 2 eggs) for the pricing, carrots undercooked, many dishes came out ~slightly~ warm Would maybe come back for a different meal time... for sure leaving this place behind when it comes to breakfast. read more

My BF and I went here for our Valentine's Date/8 year anniversary night! The food was incredible! We got the calamari appetizer and it was so good! The breading was super light and the calamari was perfectly cooked! I got the salmon with mashed potatoes and wild rice. The salmon was perfectly cooked, and super flavorful. The sides were also very full of robust flavors. I also got the espresso martinis wich were a hit! My BF got the walleye with carrots. He said the walleye was cooked well, flakey and light but kind of fishy (we think it may have been previously frozen). The carrots, although they were huge, were super delish. He got the old fashion. He nodded his head when I just asked him if he liked it. The atmosphere was very cozy and romantic, with a wonderful view of Lake Superior. read more

Super unfortunate that the Benedict came hardboiled. At the end they offered to remake the eggs but only after 15 minutes into my meal...also asked a server for hot sauce and never got it. They did discount the meal I'll try again in 6 months to see if they have gotten better read more

We were in town for some R&R and my husband booked us a room at Pier B. After a day of sightseeing in the snow we went into Silos for drinks and dinner. Best choice ever! Out bartenders Tony and April were awesome! We felt very welcomed and were given wonderful service. Really impressed with them. The food was also super tasty. We've been here 3 times (stayed at PierB) and have really liked everything we've had here. I have NO idea why this place gets 3 stars. Staff is friendly and accommodating, prices are reasonable for what you're getting; and the layout and space are great with a fantastic view. We recommend the Smoked Salmon Platter YUM, Steak Sandwich, and Walleye Tacos (husband ordered those twice). Fries are really good too don't skip those :) read more

We stopped in for a drink late Sunday afternoon and ended up staying for dinner. Service was great! Food delivery was prompt. We had draught beers to drink so I can't comment on the cocktails. I had the Bolognese and my better half had the mushroom ravioli (both priced at $28). Both were solid dishes with good flavor. I would order either of them again. Portions were good, not too much, nor too little. We each also ordered a Caesar salad ($5) to start. These were forgettable- lettuce near its end of life, very little flavor in the dressing, and food service croutons. I wish I had passed in favor of one of the dessert options offered. We came here hoping for a nice dinner and although the views are beautiful and there was live music outside, the food, space and service are lacking. The smell of fish in the dining area is pungent which is never a good sign for any restaurant. Then almost immediately came the flies- swarms of flies. And we were inside the restaurant...the drinks were superb, I would go back just for drinks and the nachos. The calamari was undercooked for some pieces and burnt on others- I should have known bc of the smell not to risk it but other tables had it and it looked good. Silos Restaurant isn't the place I'd have picked for my introduction to Duluth, but it was the place someone else picked, probably for the location, which has some views of water and of - wait for it - silos. It's a very big restaurant/bar, with high ceilings and an adjoining hotel which likely accounts for much of their clientele. There's outdoor seating too, with better water views, but I sat indoors. I asked my hosts what food item Duluth was known for and they simultaneously answered "Walleye" so that's how I came to order the "Walleye Cakes" ($15) which were served with a lemon-caper aioli and some dry greens which benefitted from that aioli. This "starter" was unremarkable, and probably not the best way to learn what Walleye tastes like. Another at my table got the Walleye Tacos ($14) which I'd momentarily considered before noticing that they were made with flour tortillas. The star of the table was something that another at my table had ordered on past occasions: a Smoked Salmon Platter ($18). This was the sole thing at the table that I found sort of wow-worthy and it's what I'd order were I ever back in Duluth, at Silos. I've no complaints about the service (friendly and efficient) or really anything. Silos is a perfectly adequate restaurant that just failed to excite either my palate or my tastebuds. The restaurant is located inside the Silos "Resort" (P.S. This is a hotel, not a resort in the true sense. It takes much more than 2 pickleball courts to correctly be called a "resort."). That aside, the restaurant offers pleasant views and its contemporary design is well done and includes a combination of table and booth-style seating and a few TV's. My Silos Signature Burger (a double stack w/ onion jam, cheese and more) was nicely presented (see photo) and arrived in good time along with fries (fries were tasty but were barely warm). The burger was well done and I was never asked my temperature preference which I viewed as a significant oversight. My friend's Impossible Burger and side salad was "fine" as well...(see photo). While disappearing for about 20 minutes, server (Ilea) did a nice job upselling us to a dessert (a HUGE serving of carrot cake). Prices are fair for a hotel location (even in Duluth where hotel rates are generally viewed as "gouging") but the 3% addition to the bill for " team service" should appear on the menu. This addition may be helpful to the business by generating payroll dollars however it adds confusion to the experience of many diners. Three adjacent and confused diners reduced their servers gratuity by a good amount in order to make up for the 3% plus apparently applicable taxes. Lots of confusion out there and perceived attempts to hide "automatic add-ons" are not helpful. Service needs to be far better and consistent when patrons are charged an automatic gratuity regardless of the experience. read more

Very underwhelming. Ordered chicken wild rice soup, pretzels and cheese curds as appetizers. The chicken wild rice soup was very good, the cheese curds were very greasy, would suggest the pretzels and beer cheese. For entrees we all ordered very different options. The sirloin was very tough and over cooked, the ribeye was thinly cut and just average with flavor. The Shrimp and scallops were very rubbery with a weird after taste. While the burger and nachos were edible there was nothing worthwhile to mention about them. The French fries were AMAZINg thinner cut and super crunchy! Over all I would not recommend coming here when there are several other restaurants like Pickwick and Boat House a mile up the road that has amazing service and great food! read more

We were there for the Easter buffet today and it was very disappointing. Undoubtedly the focus was getting as many customers as possible, definitely it wasn't about the food. I would have been more than happy to pay more money to have better quality food and far fewer people. The staff was ill equipped to handle the massive crowd. They couldn't keep up with replenishing the food fast enough or even keeping plates available. There were a few items that were good, the smoked salmon, ham, and prime rib. There were items that were stale or just placed on the tables to take up space like the raw asparagus. I didn't take pictures of the buffet because sadly it was not worth the effort. read more

Best water front dining on the shores of The Duluth Harbor. Audrey was our fantastic server, The food here is gourmet and prepared to perfection. An extensive menu and something for everyone. Special birthday lunching with my daughter and son and law. Everyone was impressed, I would recommend the fresh squeezed orange juice along with a wide assortment of beverages. We had the following, California Club with the smoked Turkey and applewood bacon, We also had the Summer berry salad and the walleye tacos. Everything was delicious especially the complimentary birthday cheese cake. The price is reasonable and the service is great. read more

5 stars solely for the chicken Wild rice soup because holy YUM! I've never had a soup that tasted that good! I'm not saying this was the only thing good, but it deserved 5 stars on its own. Everything I ordered was based upon bartender recommendation and they did not let me down. I went 2 nights in a row, because yes. I had the meatloaf the first now and it was HUGE! I barely made a dent in it. It came with seasonal veggie and mashed potatoes. The veggies were fresh and the potatoes were oh so fluffy. I also got the nachos - which I love when each chip is specifically prepared because you always get a taste of everything in every bite. The ambiance and service was top notch. We had a beautiful comfy booth facing the harbor. We brought friends from out of town because of the views and we thought food. The four of us had a variety of dishes. Flatbread, walleye cakes and a pork chop with a couple sides. The walleye cakes were so so, nothing out of the ordinary and just two for the price we had paid for three a few days earlier(that were better). My family wanted to go here after the symphony on Saturday night. I specifically asked on Wednesday when I was here in person if they served food after 9. They said yes, limited menu, just appetizers til 10. So we came at 9:10, we were told they just closed the kitchen and I asked about the appetizers. So the guy at the waiter stand checked and said yes and gave us an appetizers menu. He told us we could sit anywhere. So we choose a table by the window. A couple of waitresses were waiting on people on both sides of us. After 20 minutes, we couldn't get a waitresses attention and they never even looked at us. So we left very disappointed. Taking our business elsewhere. Too bad, we had a good dinner here on Wed but probably won't come back. There were so many ways they could have helped us. Silos is getting 4 stars from me because the service was above and beyond professional. I ate there with an extended family of 16, including 8 kids under 10. YIKES! Terrible idea, right? The hostess helped move our large table from high tops to more kid friendly tables. Our server didn't roll his eyes when we sent 2 chocolate milks back. Had dinner here with my husband and 1 year old. We were seated right away in a very large booth. My son loved running from side to side between myself and my husband. We also had a great view of the harbor from our table. Our server was awesome. I had a burger and my husband had their pork tenderloin grilled cheese. We also LOVED the steak tip appetizer. Honestly, the appetizer was the best part of the meal. 100% recommend if you like steak tips -- it came with a particularly delicious sauce to dip in. We ate early to accommodate our son's schedule and when we were leaving, the restaurant was filling up. We never saw anyone waiting for a table while we were at the hotel but that doesn't mean it doesn't get busy. Maybe call ahead just in case for popular dining times. read more

We came here for lunch on our second day of our Memorial Day Weekend Duluth, MN after visiting the William Irvin museum ship. When we arrived, it was practically empty, no people around, yet the service was oddly slow-- can't imagine how slow it is when it's crowded in the evening, but they may have also been short on staff at the time we came there. I had the steak sandwich for lunch, which was very good. Everyone else also enjoyed their meals. The atmosphere was fine, was part of the hotel lobby. There is a good view of the harbor so you can do some ship-watching if there is anything coming in or out. read more

Ate lunch there today...possibly the best chicken wild rice soup I've ever had. We shared three apps; the walleye cakes, the peach burrata salad, and the margarita flatbread. The salad was excellent, and the flatbread (especially the tomatoes) was exceptional. The walleye cakes were dry, though - and they have Pepsi products - which is why this only got 4 stars. We stopped in because we wanted to try the food and check out the hotel a year ahead of my daughter's wedding, as she has a block of rooms here already reserved. The restaurant itself is very eye appealing. Comfy feeling with a nice bar and terrific view of the wate and lift bridge. We went for breakfast even though we didn't stay at the hotel the night before. The hostess greeted us prompty and was a sweetheart. She asked if a booth was okay which I'm sure normally that's what people want. But I asked if we could have a table due to my health issues as it would be easier. She gladly accommodated my request. We sat right nex to the window and it was lovely. I got the Breakfast buffet. The eggs, potatoes and meat were only okay. I'm pretty sure they are the same products used in other hotels on their free buffets. The yogurt was terrific tho and an amazing granola topping was a treat! My adult children got the Eggs Benedict and said they too were okay. Nicely constructed and overall as they should be, but nothing outstanding. They got plenty of hashbrowns which they said were good! They only serve brewed coffee. Would be financially benefical to have an espresso machine... They lost $15+ right there, although my daughter said the hot chocolate was "amazing". See you in a year for the wedding! read more

Staying at the Pier B resort for the weekend, so my wife and I thought to try out the restaurant in Saturday night. We ordered the cheese curds to share, which was definitely unique and delicious. My wife ordered the crusted walleye, which was crispy, and the sauce was delicious. The wild rice and veggies were passable, nothing to write home about. Here's where the meal became disappointing. I ordered the sirloin, medium rare. The steak was of the proper size and presentation was fine, they even have a wooden pick that says the steak is "M.Rare", cool! Cut the steak down the middle and it was dry and well done. I notified the server and she offered to a new order while I "work on" the dry steak, and are some of my wife's delicious walleye. When the second order of steak came out, it looked more juicy, with butter on top, but cutting into it, steak was well done again. 0 for 2. Notified the server again, she offered me a third steak, but at this point I was pretty much full nibbling on the walleye and dry steak and sides. Server said she would take care of it and gave me the bill with the walleye and steak comped, which I thought was a fair gesture since the steak debacle affected both my wife and my dining experience, only charging us for drink and cheese curds. When we returned with my card and check, she told me that she made a mistake and CHARGED THE BILL WITH THE WALLEYE BACK ON!! I still left a decent tip, but left angry and disappointed. Plan to talk to the restaurant manager/hotel before we leave, we will see how that goes... read more
