My favorite diner of all time. I've been going here for years and I've never had a bad meal!

I had a business meeting at Silver Coin Diner last night. It was a complete disaster. First, I used their Mens Room and there were used toilet seat covers rolled up and thrown on the toilet and the urinals were caked with urine that has not been flushed. I told the waitress about the bathroom and she smiled and said OK. (No sign of any type of sympathy or understanding or assuring me that things will be taken care of.) Now, as JM and I waited for Chad to arrive we ordered our drinks. I asked for a Mountain Dew and the waitress said no but we have sierra mist. How is that an alternative to Mountain Dew?! So I ordered root beer instead. I finish my root beer and it sits EMPTY on the table, even after Chad arrived my glass was empty. After 10 minutes of being IGNORED by the waitress I was about to complain and leave but JM asked if I could keep calm. I was like okay sure. The waitress came to the table, Chad ordered a Sierra Mist and the girl never bothered to ask if she could refill my soda or JM's coffee. Then it was 20 minutes before she brought Chad his soda. At this point I was without a refill for over 40 minutes. She comes back to the table and we place our orders. JM ordered Pork Chops w/ Applesauce & Mashed Potatoes, Chad ordered Shit on the Shingles with Hash Browns and toast, I ordered and specified that it was my appetizer steamed clams with butter and the red sauce that is usually served with seafood (I was annoyed at this point and could not remember cocktail sauce) and Chad handed her three empty glasses and asked for refills. The girl comes back with the refills and JM's appetizer, but my appetizer was still being prepared. She comes back with Chad and JM's meals and my APPETIZER was still not ready. At this point Chad handed her three empty glasses again and requested another refill. (not once did she offer to refill our glasses) The girl finally comes back with my APPETIZER with butter and tomato sauce when JM and Chad were half finished with their dinner which they didn't finish. Chad complained that his SOS was cold, JM complained that his chops were hot outside but cold inside, his mash was stale which he sent back and had replaced and that was still stale. I asked for a half a teaspoon of horse radish and the girl brought me back an entire bowl which was pretty much wasted. I made my own cocktail sauce by mixing it with Catchup (thank you Donna Teal Franchetti for teaching me that one). My clams were sandy (I know how to clean clams these were not cleaned) I ate them any way because I figured what the hell there's a trick that many people don't know about with clams. (I should know I spent an entire week steaming them this past summer.) Chad and JM left at this point and I ordered my main course which was Soup and Grilled Cheese. She brought out the soup as I waited another 10 minutes for my grilled cheese. Who eats SOUP before their GRILLED CHEESE?! The whole purpose of the two is to eat together! I left the girl a 5% tip thinking maybe she was new or it was because they were busy. I then went to complain to the manager about the bathroom, food and service. She refused to cut the bill or anything. I demanded to speak to the owner which she said he was not in. So, I paid with my Master Card, as to dispute the charges. This was a complete disaster. Instead of discussing business, it was all about the lack of service and bad quality of the food. I went back in after my trip to walmart to get the employee's names and they gave me two of the names then kicked me out, stating that they will dispute the charges! I will be more than happy to file all the necessary reports against this company as is needed as they have terrible service, terrible food and a disgusting environment. JM went inside and told them that the food was worse than the food they serve in Jail and other things. I have filed the charge back with MasterCard and am going to continue muddying their name throughout town and the web for their terrible service. Until I get some sort of restitution from the Silver Coin Diner! read more

U drive by and there parking lot is always full!! Their food was great and it's a popular diner for the area.

I'm being generous with a two star rating for this place. My sister and I had stopped here after a race a few weekends ago. She had said that she used to come here when traveling to see friends in the area. I was excited to find they had pumpkin pancakes on the menu and ordered those with a side of pork roll, something not so common where I now live. The waitress was nice, but not very attentive. The place wasn't even close to packed. My pancakes came out undercooked... as in, they were still runny in the middle and the waitress had forgotten my pork roll, which, when it came out, was burnt. I sent the pancakes back for french toast. Two pieces of toast cut in half.. that's what you get. I felt insulted by the price and the fact that I had to keep asking for refills for coffee instead of it being offered. My sister's sandwich was just "ok" according to her. When we go to AC this weekend, we will definitely be by-passing this place in favor of another diner, like Vincentown. I can wait to get good food. read more

We had breakfast here on the way back from AC. The veggie omelette was excellent. So was the toast and coffee. The service was good and a very friendly staff. I loved this place. I wish we had such a diner near our place. read more

Haven't been to the Silver Coin in a few years, but I used to go there with my mom quite a bit. We always enjoyed the food there. Nice sized portions, well prepared. A bit nicer than the usual diner in terms of food quality. I always liked their chicken marsala and chicken piccata. Tasty desserts, clean, good service. read more

Instead of cutting the portions you should just raise the prices. With the exception of the desserts I find the portions to be very small on many of the dishes that I've had here. My favorite is the broiled crab stuffed shrimp when they cut the portions it looks like they cut it about 35% on this meal. read more

Great service! We each had short stacks of pancakes, bacon and home fries. Portions were generous and food came out hot and fast. My Canadian bacon was a little gristly and coffee was blah but other than that our meal was enjoyable. read more

Went last night for dinner. My chicken quesadilla was amazing; my husband enjoyed the Pull Pork Burger--said it was one of the best burgers he's ever had. Jenn, our server, was VERY upbeat & friendly- a true asset to the establishment. My only negative: my vodka & pineapple tasted like the vodka was omitted. Very underwhelming. Our party of 12 was somewhat rudely greeted with an "if you want to sit together you're going to have to wait" introduction by the guy behind the counter. We were shortly thereafter broken up into two parties of six. The hostess was less than friendly as she brought a pile of menus and silverware to our table (most of which we sorted ourselves). The waitress was even less pleasant. I don't recall her introducing herself. Our drink orders were taken and received rather quickly although it was busy. Food orders were then taken with four of us receiving soup with our meals. Once finished the bowls were never removed to make room and out came our lunches. The food was overpriced (I think nearly $13.00 for a plain burger) and just ok. The waitress never stopped by with the obligatory "Is everything ok? Can I get you anything else?" and when four of us had empty glasses we had to call her away from chatting with two coworkers behind the cash register to be served. Earlier when one in our party asked for a straw she brought three and more or less threw them on the table. Pretty much the same when several of us asked for to go boxes (she brought a pile - more than were needed - I guess it was too much trouble to ask how many were necessary). This was an interesting spot. The seating was prompt and the waitress was friendly, however know what you want when you are ordering. The waitress was slightly snippy when asked to wait. We came here as a group of 8 between games at a soccer tournament. Luckily we got a table right away. The service was very friendly albeit a tad slow (we had game time constraints so were very conscious of time). The food choices were extensive and everyone enjoyed their meals. I don't even know why I bother going there. The food is a sad excuse for Jersey diner food. The service is absolutely horrible.

As far as diners go, Silver Coin is somewhere between excellent and poor. I live less than a mile away and have gone there many times. Breakfast has always been good. But lunch and dinner, not so much. It all really depends on which waitress you get. So far, every time we've gone there for lunch, if they seat us to the right (in the booths or at the counter) the waitress has, without fail, gotten the order wrong. But, if they seat us to the left, the waitress has always gotten the order right and provided great service. Same with dinner. My advice, breakfast is good. But if you go there for lunch or dinner, asked to be seated at one of the tables or booths to the left of the entrance. But if you need to find out all the latest local gossip and dirt, sit at the first or second booth to the right... you can listen to the regulars sitting at the counter dishing dirt about everything and everyone in town. You'll get an earful, but the drawback is, odds are, your order will be wrong. read more

Went with my husband on fathers day around 10am. We just sat at the counter since it was so busy to get a table we waited about 15mins to get the seat. The waitress took our order but she didn't write it down went and spoke with the people next to us for about 5 to 10 minutes. We didnt see her for a while probably about 20mins. When we did she came back over and asked us our order again. We waited 45 more mins or longer for our food. We never got refills on our drinks we got 1 cup of coffee each. We waited for the check but didn't see her or get it so I just went to the register and paid and left. The red white and blue waffle is very good but not worth waiting that long for. read more

We only live a few miles from the silver coin and my wife and I eat there at least 3 times a week breakfast lunch and or dinner. The food is excellent the prices are very reasonable the servers are very personable and once they get to know you they call you by name and if you have a favorite table you're always directed There. I am disabled in wheelchair and we always eat at the first table in the dining room by the entrance to the dining room. There are daily specials and one thing I enjoy is if there's something special that you want and it's not on the menu they will gladly make it for you. Yes there are other excellent diners locally but the queen is our choice read more

First time at diner. Honestly, I don't know what everyone is raving about. We first had to wait about 15-20 minutes to be seated. Our "greeter" was a young lady who quickly took us to our table, threw our menus down on the table and left. No conversation, no your server will be with you nothing which I found incredibly rude. Our server came took our order. Our appetizer arrived about 15 minutes. I ordered the french dip that came with fries. My husband ordered the Philly steak. That came about 15 minutes later. The meal was nothing to brag about. I thought my sandwich was a little dry and tough. My husband needed a refill on his drink but our server was no where to be found. She never came by to see if everything was ok or if we needed anything. After locating our server, she left to get our refill. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. For 20 minutes, my husband waited for the refill. Finally, we found our server and reminded about the drinks. Ok, she finally brought them. By then I was ready to leave. Ok, now where is our check. Waited. Waited. And waited. Again, my husband had to locate our server. I would have asked for a box to take home but I was afraid that would take an hour to get a box! I did tell the gentleman when we cashed out what a bad experience we had and we would never return. He was very helpful listening and hoped we would return for a better experience. read more
