We came in Saturday night with a very large group of middle schoolers after their school's musical... I think there were at least 70 people (kids and adults). Service was amazing - especially considering the circumstances - and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Kids and parents had a great time. The cast and crew of the MS play showed up there with over 70 people. The Silver Diner was extremely accommodating and patient with over 40 middle schoolers. Our servers were organized and efficient and the food came out quickly. We are beyond thankful and the kids had a great time. My only advice is to add the gratuity when it is such a large party. The kids were not sure what to do about the tip and we are sure our servers did not get as much as they deserved, but they didn't complain once and were very pleasant and helpful. Wow what a great menu! We flew in from the west coast and looking for a good spot for a late night dinner. We've been to a couple different Silver Diner locations and they've all been great. We enjoyed the new seasonal menu item from Chef Ype: Newmarket Farms roasted tomatoes and white beans with chunks of butternut squash and leaks in a lemon pesto sauce. Very nourishing! We stopped in for a quick breakfast as a party of 7. The wait was about 38 minutes for a Sunday at 12p. The restaurant was clean and are following COVID protocols. The waitress and staff were personable. The restaurant was very busy so the drinks and food took a bit to come out to our table. I ordered a coffee which was watered down and the lumberjack breakfast. The breakfast was good and filling. We didn't have any issues with food and the prices were reasonable. My family and I came to celebrate my birthday on 12/1/19. If you are with the Silver Diner rewards program, they will give you a free birthday entree and dessert. I informed our waiter this while we were ordering, and he said not a problem, but we noticed service went downhill from there. Our salads were served at the same time as our entrees, which came in 15-20 minutes. We were never checked again for drink refills. We were still eating when the waiter quietly slipped the bill on our table, not deducting the birthday entree, and he didn't ask about dessert. The manager saved the day by checking on us. She made sure the bill was done correctly, took our dessert order, and got drink refills. Our waiter returned back with our bill, not saying anything again. I can't believe waiters are not adequately trained on customer service. Very disappointed. This location is close, but we may return back to Rockville Silver Diner for better service. read more

A few years back, I was pretty blown to discover that the Silver Diner in Greenbelt had closed. To this day, I have no idea why, as it was a good location with exceptional food options. So it was great to discover that a new location sprung up in Columbia recently! New location, great food, friendly staff... what else could a diner offer? My bestie and I met up here one Friday evening for one of the best dining experiences that I've had in a while. We ordered the open-faced turkey and meatloaf dinners and split them to double the pleasure. Both meals were delicious, locally- sourced goodness. We followed up with an order each of bread pudding and apple pie. Trust me, neither disappoints. Staff was friendly and efficient. Being a new location, the place is bright and shiny. I met with a friend for Sunday morning breakfast at Silver Diner. The inside has a good buzz and nice feeling. We were greeted and seated in one of the booths (which had plexiglass separators for COVID). The waitress tended to us quickly, but wasn't very inviting ... kind of seemed like she wanted us to hurry up so she could move on. I can deal with that, but it wasn't the best impression. I ordered the Belgian waffles with eggs and local chicken sausage. I was surprised the Belgian waffles did not come with maple syrup by default, but i think it came with agave syrup. There is an additional cost for maple syrup, which felt a little like nickel-and-diming. That said, the agave syrup wasn't bad, but the maple syrup seems like what should be offered with waffles! The waffle itself was made well. Crispy and airy and a nice sized portion. The eggs and sausage were also very good. The overall price is a little expensive, but I believe that's because they get a lot of their items from local sources. Just make sure the keep that in mind if you come here. Getting higher quality products does cost a little more, so you need to make sure that is worth it to you. The food is good. I think the service could be a little more friendly, but it was by no means bad. Next time I come, i hope the service is a little better. I might bump up a star if that is the case. read more

W were a bit disappointed to find that there was no burger option on the kids menu, so we ordered a regular build your own burger for the little one. Our food took another 20 minutes. The menu said the burgers would be served with a pink center...ours came out very well done. Not bad, just a little too done. Overall, the burger was flavorful and the beef was fresh. We went to the Silver Diner on a Thursday night around 5:45pm and beat the rush. The ambiance was nice, a sort of eclectic but good music playlist, the place was clean and quiet. Service was excellent! Our waiter, Deshawn, was prompt, friendly, informative, attentive, and very professional. It was a pleasure having him serve our meal. I had the Kickin Crab Corn Chowder along with six of the fried shrimp and it was delicious. Just what I wanted. My wife had the Triple Pickle Chicken Sandwich which was also very good. I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. Two evenings ago, upon my cousin's recommendation, I picked up the Shrimp Scampi and the Summer Cod entrees and they were absolutely delicious. My wife, daughter and I devoured the food and enjoyed them so much. First time we've ever tried the Silver Diner, so we were pretty happy about it. So yesterday for dinner, I wanted to try other dishes on the menu. This time I called ahead. I ordered the short rib burger, the fried shrimp entree for my daughter and the shrimp and grits. Unfortunately, they said that it was only available until 4 pm so that was our first disappointment. I'm not a chef, but I just don't understand how difficult it is to make shrimp and grits after 4 pm? So Instead, we ordered the meatloaf. OH MY GOD, was it salty! I think the chef must have accidentally spilled a whole salt shaker into the meatloaf mixed. I prefer salty foods than sweet but this was ridiculously salty. We tried to eat as much as we could and this morning we woke up with puffy eyes because of all the salt! The short ribs on the burger were delicious, cooked just right and melted like butter in our mouthes. The burger patty was raw inside! I ordered medium Well but got rare. Either the order taker did not pay attention, or the chef did not read the order properly. I also ask for no RAW ONIONS or Scallions in all our foods but that we DO LIKE the fried onions toppings on the meatloaf dish and the burger. I probably should have checked my order before leaving but they did not put the fried onion topping, which was quite disappointing. The fried shrimp was very good although the portion was very small. It should have been listed and priced as an appetizer rather an entree. There are quite a few more dishes that we saw on the menu that we would like to try. I think I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and give them one more try. I really hope we are not disappointed again! It is one of my favorite spots to come for breakfast while I am at work since it is conveniently located in Columbia we are my offices. They have a small bar so we can mix basic drinks for you. Every time I come there's never been too long of a wait.The staff is usually friendly and attentive to your needs. The food while nothing fancy is usually pretty good. I have never come any other time other than breakfast and I only order off of the breakfast menu. Would like to try out their lunch some day to see if it is as good. read more
