We've been to this Silver Diner plenty of times and during different times of the day, and the more we frequent it, the more we enjoy that it's becoming a go-to! Although at first, breakfast/brunch items were what I'd typically get (love the pancakes!) I've lately really enjoyed their appetizers and dinner meals. The burrata bruschetta is an absolute stand-out, their wings were good, and my latest meal, the tuna melt, was awesome, especially with a side of tomato bisque. Sadly, Silver Diner is now "off the list." While the food is generally good or very good quality, the value is too low for this to be a destination any longer. For my family of four, the total was $94. No appetizer for the table, no alcohol, no desserts. Two of us left hungry. There is nothing "deluxe" about their grilled cheese deluxe. It's strikingly small and comes with lukewarm thin fries. We didn't realize until after it was finished, that they never gave us the ginger-cranberry sauce that was supposed to come with it. My vegan smash burger was thin, as one would expect, but it was pretty insubstantial in size, and there was nothing impressive about the bun, the lack of slaw topping, or the disappointing size of lukewarm, tasteless fries. My son ordered an appetizer as a meal and added a side of fries to his order as well. Again, it was a cheapo portion. Think about how Five Guys impresses with their fries. Is Silver Diner intentionally trying to disappoint its diners? At decent prices, the serving sizes might be overlooked, but $18.99 for a pasta? At a diner? $12.49 for a small grilled cheese and a small amount of fries? $9.79 for a shake (though they at least give you extra in a metal mixing container)? At the time we ate - between lunch and dinner - there were only a handful of tables occupied, but still the service was lacking. It took too long for the shake to come out, well after the other drinks. The waitress, who was pleasant enough, only came around once to ask us how things were doing. I asked for a coke refill. Over 10 minutes later, she returned saying "I thought I brought this to you." then walked away without asking if we needed anything else. The next time we saw her, she was holding a credit card reader. Delightfully, the pay-at-the-table reader suggested tips of 20, 22, and 25 percent. I overrode the suggestions and left a reasonable amount based on the actual service quality. Sorry, but at nearly $100 ($25 a person), there are much better values out there. read more

My son refered to today's breakfast at the Silver Diner as a "skill issue". Nothing was 'bad', but it appears that the kitchen is disorganized. Starting with the best parts, the ambience of the restaurant is fine. It is similar to the Silver diner in Rockville, which I have taken my family to many times. Personal service was also fine. The wait person was friendly, professional, and cheerful. Apparently it was her 50th birthday, and she treated everybody in our area like we were extensions of her family. I give her credit for making the best of some unfortunate errors. The food was problematic. The coffee arrived cool. Not hot, not lukewarm, but the temperature of tapwater. We placed our orders when the coffee came, and received our food relatively quickly. Unfortunately, parts of the order were incorrect. My basted eggs came out poached; my apple chicken sausages came out as bacon. When I questioned the eggs, I was told that this was how their chef made fried eggs. I didn't make an issue of it, assuming that the cook didn't know what 'basted' meant, and my son's food was fine. It turned out that several orders were mixed together. The waitperson checked, and eventually brought out additional fried eggs and sausage. They did warm up our coffee with a new pot, which was great. The orange juice that I had ordered as part of the meal never did arrive. The new order of eggs were slightly overcooked, with solid yokes. The potatoes were cooked, but were soft and flavorless. We ended up taking our food to go. As I mentioned, the service was noteworthy, and we may try the restaurant again, but on an afternoon or evening shift instead of the morning shift. read more

I came here with a few girl friends over the weekend for brunch. Our server Meghan was great and super friendly! She recommended the iced brewchata drink and it was absolutely delicious! We started with the salmon avocado toast for the table and it was a great size and really good. For my meal I ordered a bacon and cheese omelette that came with a biscuit and home fries. I really enjoyed the omelette and biscuit but the home fries I felt could have used some extra seasoning and weren't as crispy as I had expected. Our waitress even let us split our checks three different ways at the end, which I appreciated because most servers I encounter never want to split them. Everything was so good, we decided to later order a kids meal (although we didn't have a kid at our table) of the turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy entree, for just because! That was yummy too! Note: this is a chain. Music from the 50s to the 80's plays overhead at a gentle volume. Don't expect just your typical diner fare when you're here.. It's been modernized and revised With healthier options while still keeping some of the oldies but goodies. Coffee and tea and fresh brewed iced tea as well as soft drinks are bottomless. When you get a cup of coffee you're not given a spoon or a stirrer so I went looking for set ups and they only come with forks and knives. That's OK I used my knife to stir the cream in my coffee No creamers or butter on the table so you have to get what they decide is right for you. I asked for my second cup of coffee and it was brought to me without creamers. So i just asked someone else who worked here and all they did was call my waitress from across the place so that was pretty embarrassing. The food here is really good. The pancakes are awesome. The bacon is fabulous. The coffee is really good. Its just the basic service is lacking. - You should get a spoon or stirrer with your coffee. - You Should be asked if you need cream or milk with your subsequent cups of coffee since there's none on the table. - If you get pancakes and they deliver the syrup In a teeny tiny little pitcher They should ask you if you have everything you need. We love silver diner. The food is always excellent, and the service is great. It's an awesome option for vegetarians and kiddos. My daughter loves coming to Silver Diner. While she often gets the same thing (Belgian Waffel with Eggs and Bacon), they do offer a varied menu for kids. We love that the menu has several options for vegetarians. I've never heard of this diner and thought that it was just gonna be another regular diner when I realized they carefully made the menu of healthier ingredients and variety. I loveee that they added more vegetables and had so many more options for me to choose from. I had the chicken noodle soup, which was really homey, and then the chicken pot pie, which was unexpectedly not too heavy or light with a good mix of ingredients. It was all so satisfying. My friend got their new menu item, which was some pasta with lamb meatballs, and I had a taste and was especially surprised. I normally feel like pasta can get too heavy and taste the same after every bite, but this also had so many ingredients. Service was fast and polite. I had asked him about birthday offers before we placed our breakfast order as I didn't receive one this year. I was surprised he remembered to ask when he brought our order to us. Apparently now three visits annually are needed to receive a complimentary birthday offer. Years ago, I automatically received a complimentary entree and dessert without any restrictions. I haven't gone to the diner as frequently in recent years. My husband and I both ordered the Belgian waffle with scrambled eggs and bacon. Service was extremely slow for a group of 8. Incorrect mismatched orders & missing items that arrived by the end of the meal. However the biggest most complicated issue here was in requesting gluten free options; while they were accommodating and assuring, even confirming that the substitute toast was in fact gluten free. It really screwed up my weekend cause it was not actually gluten free and halfway through the meal they brought the gluten free alternative when someone in the party advocated for the mistake. As of August 2024, I can no longer recommend this place, especially if you are gluten free... if you can't do gluten it's not worth trusting the staff at this location with your digestive system, could ruin your weekend. read more

I ordered a simple breakfast - 2 eggs scrambled, potatoes and ham. When it came the potatoes were cold (like not even cooked). The rest of the meal was not warm either. I'm a long time customer of this location. My server was nice, but I do feel that the service and food have slightly declined at this location. After the server brought my plate, I grabbed my silverware. The first thing that I pulled out was a for and it wasn't cleaned. It had a white substance on it. Possibly a dried napkin? I waited 5 mins for the server to return, and showed her my fork and asked for a plastic fork. She said okay and brought the plastic ware back. Again, the server (Alaina) was nice, but she never brought this to her managers attention. Maybe because in between serving, she was sitting at a table with another coworker stuffing the silverware that was allegedly clean into the paper holders. Also, I had a child size napkin on my plate that was presented to me sitting on top of Hollandaise sauce in the picture. Lastly, the food was just edible in comparison to most other times. Unfortunately this time they weren't cooked enough and I asked for them to get cooked more and got new ones and they were better but still kinda hard not cooked in the middle. I didn't tell them but the server took them off our check for taking so look which was nice. I tried the watermelon shrimp salad and it was good. Bf got the steak with crab n corn chowder he said was good but the soup was spicy. I'm so sad I don't have any Silver Diners near my house. Silver Diner was one of the first diners I've been to that have vegan options, which was a huge plus for my family and me! When we first sat down, we were distracted by the mini Jukebox system at the table. We all took turns choosing the songs that we wanted to hear play. Unfortunately, before we had to leave, we didn't hear any of our songs but it was still a cool experience to be able to see all of their choices throughout the Jukebox! WOW! Dashawn and Jamal were total rockstars! I came in on a Saturday night with a large group of over 40 people to celebrate my daughter's closing night of her last middle school play. I must say based on the name, exterior, and inside ambience this is definitely not what I was expecting, but the food and service was great nonetheless! The farm-to-table things pretty routine back home, but they were very into sharing all of the more local places from which they sourced their food. That's awesome no matter where you go, so I was a big fan even before we started eating and drinking. The big test came after ordering mimosas and whether we'd get a champagne flute filled with 75% orange juice. I was elated to be delivered a wine glass with a fantastically proportioned mimosa. I would come back here again and again just for that (it's a rare thing to find!), but on top of that the food was pretty good as well. Despite the varied menu options, I just went with the scrambled eggs/toast/potatoes... it's my true breakfast love. We drove 30 minutes to try Silver diner in Columbia. This was our first time. We were very appreciative that they were having indoor dining on Christmas Eve and during the pandemic. Social distancing was practiced and the staff wore masks. The restaurant was clean and the atmosphere was festive! Now let's discuss the food, I was so excited that they have so many vegan options. However, the food was just average at best. My blueberry pancakes were great better than expected. They came out hot and the flavor was there, almost cake like. All the turkey bacon was under cooked. We should have sent it back but we were rushing. My daughter Tried the avocado toast with salmon lox but it was very disappointing. It seemed like the avocado had ripened too much, it was a little brown. It had a funny taste. The fries were crispy and hot which made them good. My son's beef burger was ok. The atmosphere was good, the prices were fair but our server was just OK. Crystal (I believe that was her name) was a tad bit short. However, the greeter was awesome! Finally, keeping in mind that it was Christmas Eve we gave everyone the benefit of the doubt. I would recommend this Diner keeping in mind that it is a diner.
