    Cripple Creek

Favorite sub sandwich place in Scottsdale and I am blessed to live down the street from it. I have gotten food from here quite a few times since moving nearby. Their sandwiches are the absolute gas pack. They have consistently good quality sandwiches and I like the general vibe of their establishment. I will mention the past few times I've gone, their electronic drink dispenser was out of service, so hopefully by now the issue has been resolved. Today, however, I did not get any drinks here. Just 2 sandwiches, one for me and one for my beautiful girlfriend. I got the Cripple Creek. It was delicious, packed tightly with an appropriate portion of grilled chicken and some nice crunchy bacon and with some very soft tomato might I add. I did wind up microwaving it by the time I had gotten back home and started to eat it, it had lost a bit of its warmth and I only live 7 minutes away. I prefer my food nearly piping hot but I will cut em some slack since it was decently warm still. My girlfriend got the Cowboy with no coleslaw which is her favorite. I've had the Frontier before which is pretty great as well I can confirm. This is one of the best alternatives to Subway/Jersey Mike's in the valley, period, if not here in Scottsdale specifically. The service is always great, and the presentation and execution of their menu is top notch. Would recommend anyone to try this place yesterday.

My 8" sandwich was most definitely not 8 inches long. Too bad I paid for 8 inches.

The sub itself was good, but as the other reviews indicated, the rest left a lot to be desired. I ordered online and came in to no one making my sandwich. The worker was nice enough to recognize that they weren't on the ball and offered me a drink while I waited and added "I think we're only out of Coke & Diet Coke." Turns out they were out of 1/2 the beverages and the lemonade I chose tasted like water and was clearly almost out, too. The sub was good, but I ordered (and paid for) and 8" and got a 5". I'd say I won't likely return because Jersey Mikes makes a better sandwich and is a bit more polished. If you check them out, make sure you perform a quality control inspection before you leave so you don't leave without everything--in my case 1/3 of my sandwich--you paid for.

The sandwich was okay. I got the King Bullion and the turkey was dry I think they added extra mayo to make up for It. Pickle is terrible. Two stars because the kid taking my order was kind and efficient and the bread was really good.

(I did not. I ordered a full breakfast and a waffle like an adult with priorities.) I went around 9:15am on a Wednesday--only a few tables were occupied, and the staff was super friendly, gave great recommendations, and the food came out fast. Inside is dialed in with chandeliers, French-y posters and photos everywhere, and a pastry case with tarts, pastries, and cheesecake that basically dares you to behave. The croissant was the star... fresh, flaky, light, buttery... exactly what you want. The egg was cooked perfectly and the cheese was melted into it almost like a mini omelette (loved that). My only hiccup was the "bacon." It leaned more limp pork belly than crispy bacon and had a distinct smoke flavor that wasn't the traditional hardwood/hickory vibe I'm used to. Also... because the cheese and egg are fused together, it's basically impossible to pick the bacon out once it's in there. Next time I'd order it without bacon or ask for it on the side and make it crispy. It came with a side salad, which is not what I expected with breakfast, but it was actually great, fresh spring mix and a delicious dressing with a subtle sweet undertone. There were also hash browns with a crispy exterior and soft, warm interior, exactly the texture you hope for I just wish there were more of them! Because I have no self-control around French cafes, I also ordered the Belgian waffle with fruit and whipped cream. The waffle was warm and tasty, more tender/soft than crispy, and I ended up preferring it to the 'scrape the roof of your mouth' style that most restaurants serve up. The whipped cream tasted freshly whipped and the fruit selection was generous. My only critique: I'd skip the granulated sugar on top. The waffle is sweet enough already, and biting into sugar crystals isn't my favorite texture. For a drink I tried the blueberry lavender matcha. It had crushed blueberries in it, but the matcha flavor was pretty mild and the lavender got lost. I also would've liked a touch more sweetness from the syrup but overall it drank a bit "soft" and subtle. Bottom line... really cool little spot with friendly service, quick food, and a pastry case that will absolutely ruin any plan you had to "just eat light." I'll be back but next time I'm customizing that croissant sandwich and letting the pastries talk me into bad decisions.

The soup was delicious, though it was warm rather than hot, and I'm admittedly a little picky about that. When I mentioned it, the employee couldn't have been kinder and surprised me with a complimentary chocolate chip scone. Now for the embarrassing part. Somehow, while leaving, I managed to create a full-blown dramatic airport scene by tripping over a refrigerator and performing what can only be described as a slow-motion fall. Thankfully, I wasn't seriously hurt--just a few bruises and a wounded ego. The lentil soup was hearty and flavorful, and the chocolate chip scone was absolutely to die for: flaky, warm, and tasting like it had just come out of the oven. I boarded my flight and later realized my phone was missing. After using Find My iPhone, I discovered it had somehow ended up behind the register during my graceful tumble. I put it in Lost Mode and made it play a sound. This is where the story gets incredible. Destiny, the General Manager, found my phone and went above and beyond by arranging to have it shipped all the way to California.
