This is hands down the best Chinese food in Oakley. I have yet to find better. It's located just across from the Oakley City Hall plaza next to the Ace hardware store. It's a small family run place and the owner works very hard. He cares very much about the quality of his food and is friendly to his customers. We've been coming here for takeout since we moved here and I'm so glad we found it! To go order - Americanized mediocre Chinese food that will just barely satisfy your cravings but sadly it's the only good one in the area. Let's start with the positives: the food is affordable, they were fast, and the portions are generous. With most dishes being under $10, this Chinese restaurant can pride itself on its affordability. The food was also ready within 20minutes despite having a large and diverse order. Each box was also packed so much that it was bursting out the corners. So what's not to praise? Affordable, plentiful and fast.... well, the issue is - quality. Honestly, the taste was so bland and uncharacteristically Chinese that if there were more options in the area, I'd give it 2 stars at most. The best dish we had was the Singaporean chow mein. It included shrimp and bbq pork with bamboo shoots and a house made sauce. It was slightly spicy but barely noticeable. The hot and sour soup was also acceptable but a tad bit bland. The fried wontons and fried chicken were just overly fried, dry and tasteless. The rest of the dishes were also just too oily and lacked seasoning and bite. Our newest favorite Chinese place in the area. We have been coming here not that long, just about 3 years. I found them from a comment on a local swap group and I'm glad I did, we really like it. We have tried all the chinese places in Brentwood, Oakley and Antioch over the last 15 years living here. This one is our favorite for Broccoli Beef, Honey Walnut Shrimp, Beef Chow Fun. I love pot stickers but they dont have ones here I like too much here. The stuffing inside them is delicious but the outside is very thick and I like mine lighter and thinner. I don't get chow mein here simply because they font use the kind of noodles I like. All chinese places are different, ask before you order. Don't assume all chow mein will be the same cause it isnt. I ask and then I either order or not based on what they say. Even the honey walnut shrimp that we think is a staple isnt available at all chinese places. I recently asked somewhere and they had no idea what that or beef chow fun was, you gotta ask, don't assume. You cant go wrong, give them a try, you'll be glad you did. This was our first time at this restaurant after being recommended. We thought we would order a couple of lunch plates so we could try a few things. Pork Chow Mein...Thinner noodles which are my favorite and that we can't find anywhere and very tasty. Sweet and Sour Pork which had flavorful crispy pork with the sauce poured over not drenched in sauce like other restaurants serve..which makes the pork mushy. Pork Fried Rice that was seasoned and fried with pieces of pork throughout. Hot Mongolian Beef with tender meat and sauce that was very good with a little bite of heat. Garlic Chicken made with tender moist boneless chicken thighs...which was so extremely good. Not greasy at all. Everything was delicious and the portions were huge. Do not listen to reviews that say this tastes like microwaved food...so not true. We will definitely make a return trip and try other items from the menu. Boo!! Used to love Silver River many moons ago. Food was pick up. It was terrible. Spent 60.00 and none of 5 family members enjoyed it. Plenty of left overs hit the trash. Over cooked fried shrimp. Over sauced beef dish w/ terrible flavored sauce. Way over breaded " pork" bits that were like gristle. Unseasonably fried rice and greasy chow mein. I've tried to give this place a chance.....few times, but I'm done trying to find the "silver" lining. The sweet and sour chicken is a joke. They fried the chicken in either old or really cheap oil and it was SO gross....inedible. Plus, there's barely any chicken beyond the very thick fried dough surrounding it. The guy (older, bigger male) who seems like the owner is cocky and rude. I overheard him talking to a customer who didn't want MSG in her take out order, and he was making fun of her. He kept saying they do things "old school" there and so they still use MSG. She stated that recent data and research shows it's not healthy for people, but he just said he's in the restaurant business, not the health business. Jeez! You feed people and don't think you're contributing to the health of people. It's like saying you're in the cigarette business and not the health business.....so you shouldn't care about data regarding people who smoke. He was out of line, combative, and clearly had no customer service skills. He just kept arguing with her and it was awkward to overhear what he was saying. Most restaurants no longer use MSG because it's unhealthy, and I had NO idea this restaurant still does. I'm going to make sure I request no MSG in my food, if I ever return, but I doubt I will. My wife and I have driven by this restaurant for years and years and have never stopped to eat here. So, based on other yelp ratings, we did today for lunch. As other have said, it is behind Oakley's new construction area of downtown and kind of hidden away. The building it is in has been what I consider a landmark of Oakley in that I remember it being here over 30 years ago when I was in High School. The owner has owned this restaurant for 21 years. We were met by the owner who was very nice and greeted us in. Had my ice tea within 3 minutes of walking in. The interior is clean and small. I ordered the Mongolian Beef with rice and soup. My wife had had the BBQ beef steak on skewers, bbq pork chow mein and sweet & sour pork. When our plates were delivered to the table, you knew it was fresh because it was the temperature of the sun. After a minute or two we dug in and it was absolutely delicious. The portions are crazy big. Refer to the pictures. The entire lunch was only $14.00. I hope Oakley recognizes the small restaurant and businesses owners while they are improving downtown. Places like this need to stay around. The place is bright and clean when you walk in. The menu is Cantonese. We had the basics: Won Ton Soup - Very good flavor. Lots of Won Tons. Moist BBQ pork and greens. Sweet & Sour Pork- Very crisp. Not saturated in the sweet sauce. Chicken Chow Mein - I didn't have to add any soy sauce. The chicken was good. No weird grisly pieces. BBQ Pork Fried Rice - Excellent. I have gone to silver river three times now all which were to go orders. Food was cooked to order and fast even for peak dinner times. The man who answers the phone and greets you when you arrive was very friendly and by the second time knew who I was. What a memory! Each time I went there were a lot of loyal regulars popping in to pick up orders and chat with the owner. Most of the food dishes I enjoyed.
