Let me tell you that we are not easily impressed, as we live on the road traveling around North America. This place stands out, not just because of the amazing food, but also the service. We are only in Astoria for 2 nights, and we decided to come back tonight, that's how good it is. We sat at the bar. We had the Baked Oysters Decadence, at the suggestion of the fantastic bartender. It was even better than described. We also had Pacific Rim Cheese Bread and Blackened Steak Tips appetizer. This was so good, and an amazing value. Cooked to order, these pictured were medium rare. Tonight, we got here in time to order off of the happy hour food menu. We had the Pan-Fried Pacific Oysters and they were so perfectly crisp on the outside and flavorful, with a perfect dipping sauce. The Ambiance was perfectly 80's retro...if you know you know. If you come to Astoria, come here to enjoy a nice evening. You won't be disappointed. The drinks were nicely poured too. We brought a party of six there last night for my birthday. Two things I want to say: * I was excited to see our waiter. We've had him before & he was great. Last night was a vet off not for him. It happens. We tipped well anyway. * my husband loved the jambalaya last time & recommended it to one of our guests. It was not the usual fresh over white rice. It was a mash up of red stuff. I originally made reservations at another restaurant a few doors away from Silver Salmon. That place somehow lost our reservation and gave off funny vibes anyhow so we ended up here. And were so pleasantly surprised. It was a good experience from the start- and our server was quick, friendly and efficient. We had etouffée (love the Cajun menu selections), baked oyster decadence, clam chowder and halibut n chips. Dessert was simple crème brûlée. Big stand-out above everything was the clam chowder. We went back the next morning and bought some more to go. And this delicious, oily cheesy bread that I could eat two orders to myself. read more

Absolutely wonderful service and food. We had the most lovely waitress (red headed gal and very friendly- I hope you get her, because she was the sweetest). I had the salmon cakes with Caesar salad and it was delicious, more than enough food and a great price. Overall a terrific experience. Make a reservation if going to dinner. Since covid closed so many places and places lost staff it is hard to get in otherwise. We had a reservation for lunch, but could have gotten in no problem on a Friday. read more

If you are anywhere near Astoria, Oregon you really need to go by the Silver Salmon Grille and get a bowl of Clam Chowder. I got a cup but recommend a bowl. It is great! Probably the best I have ever had. Cool place and great staff. Then had the best Jambalaya I have ever had. Next up was a Chocolate Brownie and Ice Cream which were both the bomb. read more

What a difference 5 days makes! Fair warning - this place provided me with the least consistent dining experience over 2 visits that I can remember. We went to the Silver Salmon Grille (SSG) on a Tuesday during Happy Hour and sat in the Lounge. Service was great, and the food was excellent. If I had taken the time to write a review before visiting again 5 days later, I would have given the SSG a 5-star review. But we did come back, on a Sunday. We sat in the Lounge, and the only person working in there was the bartender. She was slammed! We should have walked, but we had such a great experience earlier that week. Not so this evening. 25 minutes after ordering drinks, they still weren't delivered. Appetizers arrived before our drinks. I had to go up to the bar and ask for our drinks. And she still forgot one of them. The appetizers were marginal. The cheesy bread - or whatever it was - ended up being burnt. After an hour of neglect, we finally got our dinner order taken. One of the meals was inedible - the steak was flat out burned. By then it was too late to order anything else (2/3 of us had our food in front of us), and our confidence in the kitchen was completely shaken anyway. So, Sunday night's experience would garner a 1-star review. I averaged the two experiences, and rated the Silver Salmon Grille 3 stars. But as I wrote earlier, the two experiences couldn't be further apart in terms of service and food quality. I feel like you're rolling the dice if you end up eating at the SSG. read more

This was our second visit to the Silver Salmon, and the experience was even better than the first. The food was good and the service was outstanding. I was surprised that the bar used tiny olives in their martinis, and mentioned it to the waitress (good bars use at least queen olives; this place had those tiny pimento-stuffed ones). We told her how we like the big olives stuffed with garlic, jalapeno, or blue cheese. Though she was unable to do anything about the size of the olives, she did hand-stuff five of them with blue cheese for my next drink. No server has ever done that before (and yes, it did boost her tip). Though we did eventually order entrees, we spent time enjoyed several appetizers, and the waitress didn't try to hurry us into ordering, and appeared at our table with the perfect frequency (not too often, not too rarely). I can cook fairly well, and visit restaurants for dishes I can't make, enjoyable ambiance, and good service. The Silver Salmon has all three, and that's why we'll return. read more

Wow!!!! This is located in downtown Astoria in a quaint setting. You walk in and you're immediately greeted with a smile and a hello. Making you feel like you've made the right choice in visiting. The staff is extremely friendly and very accommodating!! I started off with an excellent cup of beef stroganoff soup. Followed up with their house calamari, then for main course the lobster with the garlic mashed potatoes. I don't normally get dessert but the waitress talked into their house made lemon blueberry cheesecake. Every decision I made was excellent!! Everything was well prepared, served timely, and presented perfectly!! There's not many locally owned business that have survived Covid here and I can see why this one has!! Service was attentive and friendly. Very nice menu with a variety of seafood, steak and Cajun options. The Teres Major Steak and the Jambalaya were both excellent. A very nice wine list. The Swedish cream dessert was delicious. Beverages, dinner and dessert for two was under $100 + tip and that was very reasonable for the high quality and lovely experience. This is favorite restaurant in Oregon. Every time I come to Oregon I make a trip to Astoria just to go here. The name says salmon and they have every kind imaginable. My cousin and I came here for a quick lunch while heading down the Oregon coastline. This is a nice stop, even though I think the decor is a little dated. Gives it a nice charm, though! We both really liked our food. We got the calamari fritte and the halibut and salmon fish and chips. The squid was nice and tender and the fish well cooked! The fries could have been better seasoned, but they were still good! All and all a good experience, made better by good service and friendly waitstaff. read more

3.5 stars is a more accurate assessment for Silver Salmon Grille. Unfortunately, this was one of the few restaurants open late (past 8pm on a Monday night) so we came here for dinner with a party of four. We had the silver salmon trio $33 (petite salmon supreme stuffed with dungeness crab/shrimp, beer coconut fried shrimp, fried oysters, gouda cheese), clam chowder (+$2.50) and Cajun Spencer Steak $33. The silver salmon trio was great since you can try different things. The three sauces (cocktail sauce, tartar sauce, and orange marmalade) were a nice touch, and the orange marmalade was the best. The salmon was delicious and seasoned well. The shrimp was cooked perfectly but the fried oysters were a bit soggy. The clam chowder was well seasoned and there were a good amount of clams, not too thick or thin. The house salad for the steak actually took the show as it was presented on a glass fish plate, which I thought was kitschy. It was fresh with nicely toasted hazelnuts and bacon. The steak itself was cooked okay, but the cut needed some tenderizing as it had a quite a bit of sinew. The mushroom steak sauce needed more time to develop as the mushrooms were simply raw even though the demi-glaze developed flavor pretty well. Service was good and you'll get a better value if you happen to have an annual parking pass to the Column with 10% off. read more

The worst meal I've ever had in a restaurant! The salmon's taste and texture seemed like it was purchased frozen from Costco. It was rubbery and strong tasting. The fruited rice was odd with lots of sweet cranberries. The vegetable was fresh broccoli, which was served absolutely plain but was the best thing on the plate.
