I stopped in at 9am and asked if they could replace my battery. I had to get it jump started that morning by AAA to even make it to the service station. They said, "Yeah, no problem" but didn't quote me a price. By 9:30am, the battery was replaced and the car ready to go. When the guy gave me the invoice, they had billed me .8 hours for labor. I asked, "You're billing me almost an hour for labor when it should be .5 hours of actual labor?" He said, "Yeah, it's about 40 minutes." He then looked at the invoice and said, "I need to fix something." After about 5 minutes he hands me a revised invoice with an increased total due by about $30 dollars. I asked, "Why the increase?" He said, "Taxes." I looked at it again and noticed that he was now billing me 1.0 hour for labor for something that still actually took half an hour to complete. I asked, "So, now you're charging me for a full hour of labor for something that took only half an hour?" He just looked at me like he couldn't understand what I was saying. At that point, I needed to get to the office so I paid the invoice and went on my way but I'll never go to this service station again. Not for gas, not for a car wash and absolutely not for service. I went here to get an oil change and I had to deal with Val, the manager. He was very rude and uncomfortable to be around. He charged me 15 extra dollars, so I asked him about the special on the oil change, so then he typed up a new receipt, but it was still 7 dollars more than the special. I explained to him that I was unhappy, and he proceeded to "teach" me about my car and told me I don't even deserve to drive my car because I don't know about it. Found out that I was running really low on gas and did not have my wallet with me, so I had to pay with spare change that I keep in my car in pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters. The middle eastern cashier who worked the night shift became angry, raised his voice and refused to take my coins. I had to apologize for the inconvenience several times and explain that I did not have my wallet with me and had no choice but to pay in coins. After many apologies, he reluctantly agreed to take the coins. Completely unprofessional cashier and is an abysmal representation of the gas station. Ok I am a tough grader but I think they are better than one star, the gas is ARCO, it is what it is, the smog checks and oil changes are fine, they do a basic job and charge about the same as valvoline/jiffy lube/etc. The car wash is reasonable, relatively quick and they do a good job, if your wheels are filthy from brake dust they don't always get it all , but they get 90% and if you point out where they missed they are happy to get 100%. If you are looking for a kick butt wash and have 45 minutes to wait miami car wash on PCH on edge of torrance/lomita is place to go. read more

This used to be an economical place to get your car washed. Their prices now make this one of the most expensive places to get your car washed on the hill. Buyer beware and read the sign carefully before telling them what you want I asked for a wash $15.95 and then saw $3.00 to clean the rims in big bold letters. When I went to pay the bill the clerk told me my wash was close to $30.00. I then went back to the car wash attendant and he said it was $3.00 per tire which is in very tiny print below the selection. I did not get the wax or Armour all the tires if I had picked those I probably would have been closer to $50.00 + for a car wash. I used to get everything here for $18.00. I have been taking care of all my auto needs at Arco on Silver Spur for over 20 years. I get my car serviced here and they do a great job! I only get my family cars washed and taken care of here! The management team is awesome. Mr.J and Mr Ray are awesome. The owner Mr. David is committed to making sure his customers are taken care of and satisfied with the service provided. I work over 25 miles away but I only fill up and get my car serviced at this Arco on Silver Spur. I wouldn't think of having my car serviced anywhere else. This Arco on Silver Spur has the best prices on gas! They are open around the clock so you can always fill-up your car in the morning or late evenings. I recently had an issue with my car a 2011 Toyota not passing the smog test. I took it back to the dealer who were the last people to work on it for a recall of the airbags. The dealer was not only rude but weren't interested in helping me at all, unless I would pay $160 an hour to diagnose a problem that I'm sure they created. I took my car back to Silver Spur Arco and had the pleasure of dealing with Alberto and Jose. Alberto promised me he would check everything out and get back to me. As promised they checked everything and were able to correct the problem for less than what the dealer would have charged me for one hour. Being a women I have often felt that when it comes to car repairs we get taken. But after dealing with Alberto and the others at Silver Spur Arco I will from now on take my car to them when in need of repair. Thank you so very much Alberto for your great customer service and help. Also Ray is a wonderful person that works at the register when I buy gas there. My wife was having some problems with our minivan (some indicator lights were on). Went to ARCO (since it is close to our house) to see what was going on. The service manager gave her an estimate that she had to replace the rack and pinion system at a cost of $2200. At my insistence, she drove across the street to Walton's. They were able to replace a leaking hose (which was causing the indicator light issues) at a cost of $160, problem solved. Worst ever! First off, car wash is quick and terrible. Do they even clean the interior? Then they wipe down one side of it that you can see. The other side is still covered in whatever gunk was on it to begin with. I'd rather go down the street to the Chevron! Secondly, the service of the mechanics is even worse! We came here for a smog check once three years ago, and once this year, for sake of convenience since it's across the street from the shops. First time around, they called us after about 45 minutes and told us there was a serious fuel leak in our engine and that it could catch fire and blow us up at any moment. Of course, I was really concerned about this, and rushed over to check it out. The manager (!!!) of the car service told us it would be extremely dangerous to drive the car in this condition and that he could fix it for something like $3000. Luckily, I called our regular mechanic and he assured us it would be ok and they were just trying to pull the wool over our eyes. After that fiasco, we shouldn't have gone back to that place, and we did avoid it for two years. However, we needed to be in the plaza across from Arco, so we risked it...what could go wrong? We leave the car and they said it would be ready in an hour. Of course, they didn't even bother to call us when it was done. I had to call them and ask, and the guy who picked up the phone told me really matter-of-factly that it was done a while ago and we had failed due to a minor leak. The attitude of the mechanic was terrible when we arrived, and after we told him that he would not be fixing our car for $1500, his attitude got even worse. We went to the register to pay for the labor of the smog check, and as I got into the car while talking on the phone with our regular mechanic, he walks by and glares at us, yelling something about us having not paid yet to the guy at the register. When he's told that we have paid, he walks off grumbling and mumbling to himself. Good job, Arco. If I could give zero stars, I would. read more

Do not waste your money or your time going here for service! The gas station part is excellent. Gas is cheap and the cashier is really nice. The car washes aren't great. The service part of this station is terrible. I've taken my car to this shop for many years for oil changes and brakes. They were never had the best customer service, but it was okay and convenient. Under the old management, there was a man named Peter that was at the desk and checked you in and out. He had the personality of a thumb tack, but was usually okay and made sure my car was done in the time that was promised. I only had one incident where they forgot to put my oil cap on and I ended up at a gas station in Long Beach with my car smoking and a horrible smell in the cabin. I went back and Peter redid the oil change and fully cleaned all the oil that splashed all over my engine. I am understanding that mistakes happen, and since they corrected the error without any hassle, I continued to go back for the convenience aspect. Recently, they changed management. I had hoped that there would be an improvement with their customer service, but that is not the case. Under the new management, I have been there for brakes and an oil change. On both occasions, I was helped by a guy that thought that he was God's gift to women and talked to me like I was some bimbo that would fall for his cheesy advances. Despite having an appointment, my oil change took 2 hours. Around this same time, someone else I knew went to this same station for an oil change. She had the same experience when she dropped off her car. She was told that her oil change would take 45 min. She received a call an hour later with Rico Suave telling her that she had a leak in her oil pan and that they could fix it for just under $600. When she declined and said that she would take it to her dealer, the guy got a bit desperate and told her that he'd do anything to work with her on price. He kept pushing and got frustrated when she still refused. She asked for them to only do the oil change. Three hours later her car was ready. She had asked for them to not wash her car after the oil change, but they did anyway. She had noticed a fresh scratch on her door. When she brought this to the attendant's attention, he denied responsibility and said that she could't prove that it was done there.. He had a "oh well" attitude and was no longer flirting. Needless to say, she left extremely angry. She has since taken her car to her dealer. They did not find a leak in her oil pan. Just the other day, I went to the Valvoline shop on the corner of PCH and Hawthorne. A gentleman by the name of Louie helped me. The service was incredible and I was out the door in 20 minutes. Louie was great and didn't try to push any unnecessary service on me just to get me to spend more money. I will continue to go back there for my oil changes. I will never go back to this Arco station. They have just lost a customer of 10 years. read more

Zero stars if I could. First off, I would never take my car(s) here for service, so this rating is for the car wash only. Since my last experience here several years ago, I have chosen to wash my cars myself. The last time the wheels were left filthy, and the guy explained to me that cleaning the wheels was not part of the wash. Fast forward to yesterday I found myself in a time crunch, and for the first time in 3 or 4 years took my F-150 here for a wash. The guy running the wash asked me if I wanted to pay the $10 to clean the wheels, and Armorall the tires. Remembering my experience from years ago, I went for it. What a mistake! The wheels were still filthy, and the guy did a crap job on the Armorall, missing some spots on the tires, and getting so much on others that the Armorall splattered all down both sides of the truck, and even splattered both side view mirrors. If you have a newer car, or a nice older car do not take your car here for a wash. If you have and older "clunker", and a half assed crapy car wash is fine with you this is your place! read more

My daughter went there for an air conditioning special, and again, they would not honor the coupon, because she "didn't present it" when she dropped the car off. I can only deduce that they have two different levels of work, and if they see a coupon first, you get sub-standard service. They wanted to put new vacuum hoses, change air filter, change oil, etc. I told them I just had the car serviced at the dealership, so I certainly didn't need the oil change. I agreed to let them change the vacuum hose. They said it would only take an hour. 2 hours later I'm up against a deadline. So the guy offers to let me use his VAN to go run my errand. What? If you plan to have these people fix your car get a second opinion. They are overpriced and I question the quality of their work and honesty. My car was there for 4 hours and charged me 8 labor hours. On the phone a particular item was going to take 2.50 hours to fix, in the invoice I was charged 3.2 hours. While at the shop my car was hit at the bumber and it appeared that some heavy tool fell on it. The manager who is rude claimed that it never happened without even asking his people if they noticed anything. He said he will take a photo and show to the owner. Never heard back. I was a customer for almost 15 years. The previous managers were great in particular Peter. I compare the current invoice with past ones for the same repair and the price on materials and labor increased by 40 to 50% over a period of 8 months due to the change of manager. If this manager is not replaced all regular customers will be gone. I do not plan to go back and I am warning all my friends to keep away. Not even for car wash or gas as I feel cheated and had to deal with a rude manager who understimates the intelligence of people and common sense. read more

I have been living here my entire life and never used these people for good reason. Just confirmed I won't be using them ever after trying to get a smog here out of convenience of location. Service manager not only smokes constantly on site but also told me to go fuck myself after his employees have been telling me over the phone that the smog service was out of order and needed repairs (keep in mind this is after taking my money). I finally went in person to call them on their lies to find the service manager accusing me of lying about ever calling and that he answers the phone 24 hours a day. After showing him call logs of numerous days over the last few weeks he just claimed I was making it up. Why would I waste my time over weeks for a $40 smog? After he continued to be petty and saying he doesn't like me (which I can only assume is due to him being a desperate lonely old man who still works at a run down gas station) he informed me that the owner would contact me after he continued to swear in his poor English. Gave the coupon to the cashier, no problem, line up to get my car wash and when the guy who writes me up tells me I can't use that coupon, though he will allow it this time. Says, I can't use the one printed off the marketing companies website. I have done this countless times for other companies and advise him if he doesn't want customers to use the website he should contact the marketing company. I had paid for the Hand Wash with liquid polish and includes Armor All all exterior for 10.99. Car gets done being washed, sits for more than a few minutes waiting for someone to pull it up to the drying area and begins to dry up and I can see water spots forming. Finally gets pulled up and continues to sit, more water spots. Finally someone starts attending to it, very quickly and barely dries and does the windows inside and out. No Liquid Polish. No wipe down of the interior, dash, nothing. Then waves the rag as done, no Armor All. They did do it after I pointed it out, but first only did the tires, and then only did the trim when I pointed it out again. One and done, never going back. read more

Do not go here for any repairs or car wash. Total Ripoff! By law, any repairs must get customer approval before any work is done. I have been going there for several years when the manager joe was there whom I knew from other repair shop. Now they have this new guy Pxxxx. No written estimate, no phone call but went ahead and did a oxygen sensor wire replacement. Part, labor and $120 for diagnostics. I have spent several thousand dollar here at least on repairs for my bmw, chevy and mazda, but never a diagnostic charges. A simple wire replacement for $300 that took may be 10 min. The best part is that this guy tells me never come back to this shop and hangs up the phone on me because I was arguing about this uninformed diagnostic charge. Save yourself a trouble and go somewhere else. They will rip you off in order to make extra buck. They never had a good reputation on the hill. read more

RIP OFF!! Went in to get my oil changed and they asked me if I wanted them to do a brake inspection so I said yes. After an 1 1/2 hours they still had my car up and wanted to "show me" that I needed brakes. They gave me a quote for the work they suggested 1,100.00 and I left. I went to a mechanic that my parents trust and having been using for years and he said I did NOT need brakes. That I could drive another year and they were at 50%. This place is under new management in the service area. They also had an oil change and car wash for 29.95 but I left paying close to 40.00. They also left my ignition on while they changed the oil so my BATTERY DIED and I needed them to jump my car in order for me to leave!!! read more

Sorry this is long, may be worth the read if you use local auto repair shops. I'm having trouble finding an honest auto mechanic. My latest experience was the Arco station on Hawthorne and Silver Spur. I'll tell you the story, you be the judge. Took my car in for a smog. The car passed the emissions test but failed because of a component malfunction read by the computer. I got a call telling me that I needed a couple of parts and an hours labor to install the parts at $110/hr. So I asked what parts and how much do they cost. I was told a fuel pressure sensor that would cost $130. Then he said, but second part is the expensive one and said it was a vacuum sensor at $350, or he may have said $450, I can't remember for sure. So I asked if he tested those two things and he said yes and that they work together and only fail when they are hot. The cost and the hot comment got me suspicious. So I told him I would pick up the car. He then told me it would cost me an extra $110 for for the testing of the parts. When I questioned that he said he would just charge me $55 and if I decided to bring it back for the repair the $55 would go towards the 1 hour repair. OK fair enough, nice guy right? So I am a "do it your self" guy with a lot of experience but I really do not work on vehicles a lot, but I know how to use google. So I looked for a YouTube video on replacing these two parts. Wow the parts are basically plug in parts, no special skills or tools needed. 1 small screw holds one of them on a bracket and the other just slips on and they are both right on the top of the engine, easy access. OK looks like max 5 minute job for my daughter who is 17. So next step. Looked up the parts online. First part $119 or so, so far just like he said, I expect them to charge for getting the part which is normal. So on the the second part $32????? What??? This is the $350 to $450 part????? Must be wrong part right? After looking.... double checking.... etc. Correct part! Then I figured that the computer reading only had an error code for the first part, so this part is probably not bad. But for $32 why not just order it and replace it. Parts were delivered, free shipping, in a few days. I was wrong about the time to put them on. Took me 10 minutes because of the little screw that they did not put back in when they took it off. So I looked for one in the garage but had none that worked, So that took 5 minutes adding to my time, lol. Took it back and it passed no problem. Should have not put on the $32 part, I'll bet it was not bad!!!! So I forgot to mention, it was my wife who took the car in, whenever things don't go right or they tell her it needs something, she tells them to call me. It appears they intended to charge her $550 to $650 to plug in two parts that cost me $150 and 5 min to remove and plug in the new parts. With the smog they would have charged her $635 to $735 for a smog check. When I took the car back, in under 10 days so they would recheck the smog at no cost, he first refused to clear the check engine light that was required to have is clear the smog check. He was rude and combative. I had to argue with him to finally get the recheck done. Really should put in jail, this guy is stealing from people. read more

Above and beyond service! The day before I was to go out of town, my a/c had stopped working, an electrical issue. I had taken my car to two other local auto service shops. After being told I wouldn't get my car in time, as well as a preposterous charge just to diagnose the problem, not to mention their quote, I decided to take it here. Unlike the diagnosis from the other place, which tried to up-sell me unnecessary parts, the mechanic found it to be just a fuse that needed replacement. I was able to get my car in and fixed in a very timely manner, at a fraction of the prior quoted costs. The customer service was very professional and polite. Very honest, didn't try to take advantage. The a/c is still working great, I couldn't be more satisfied with the overall service, I highly recommend this place! read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR EXPENSIVE CARS THERE. They are bunch of lunatics who do not know car repairs. I had taken my Mercedes for a smog check and they said i had to get some repairs done to pass the smog test. These lunatics charged me over 700 dollars and did absolutely nothing except keeping the car for over half a day and setting the check engine light to not blinking so that the smog test could pass.(also the smog testing is a sham in california and should be banned totally. It seems like a nexus between the cheats in DMV and the lousy repair shops). Within 2 days the check engine lights were on again and i took the car promptly to the repair facility. They checked the car again and said that it is a different issue and not the same issue that the car was repaired for and gave me an estimate of over $ 2000. When i asked for the codes they are getting they replied that they cannot share the information. I went to Autozone got the ODBI reader and got the codes which confirmed that they had swindled me by doing nothing except fleece me of my hard earned money. I have hence stopped going to the gas station as i really doubt their integrity and honesty. I have filled gas in many places and this place i always seem to get less for more money and i tend to agree with some of the reviews on the qua;lity of gas and the quantity of gas that you get. All in all this place should be investigated for mal practice and should be shut down if they are guilty. SO AVOID THE REPAIRS, CAR WASH and the GAS... There are better places on the hill or for repairs just take to the other places in Torrance. read more

I drove by this Arco and the price posted everywhere was $1.99. When I was just about done filling my tank I noticed the price on the pump was $2.09. I asked the clerk for the difference and he refused. I believe this is illegal and the managers duty would have been to honor the posted price. I was not planning on writing a review but had to after I discovering that not only are they dishonest, they are spiteful. So here is my story. Two years ago I needed to smog check my car and my husband's car. We always keep our cars very well maintained and I had no doubt that both cars would pass as they always had. It was however the first time taking our cars to this place. I decided to take our cars there because they are very close to my home and they had a coupon for a discount on the smog check. I made an appointment for both cars and was on time for my appointment. They pulled my car in the bay but did not start the smog check for another 45 minutes. I would have gladly driven home and returned when they could see me but I was not given that option. They kept saying "we will get to your car in about 15 minutes". After inspecting my car for a few minutes the manager came to me with some paperwork. He told me that my car did not pass the visual inspection and that the mechanic will not be able to continue with the test until I fix the problem. The mechanic recommended replacing a hose which would cost $75. I asked to see the hose that the mechanic was referring. They hymned and hawed but ultimately showed me the hose that they claimed I needed to replace for $75. The hose was about 6 inches long and about the diameter of my index finger. It was clearly not attached to the metal tube that was secured right next to it. I grasped the hose attached it to the metal tube and then stated " Can you continue with the test now?" They could. The car went on to pass with no other problems. I figured that they would not risk being caught trying to trick me twice so i brought our other car for a test a few minutes after my first car passed. That car passed with no issues. So I figured let bygones be bygones and did not post this on Yelp. Fast forward 2 years. I went to get the second car smog checked for the every 2 year check. It did not pass twice. Then the smog place realized that whomever input my last smog check put an incorrect model, and engine size in the electronically submitted information. It took a bit of time for the other smog check guy to straighten it all out. When he did, the car passed. So, it took me quite a bit of time getting a smog check and wasted the time of a very hard working honest smog check guy. I have no doubt that the electronically submitted misinformation was done intentionally out of spite because they were mad that they were not able to rip me off. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID! I just had a downright disturbing experience at this gas station. I've been coming here for years for gas and repairs because it's close to where I live. Nothing super significant about it except for the location. I went there recently to get a smog check, and Lord help me, the man by the auto repair area was disgusting. His behavior was demeaning to my daughter and myself. Get a hold of yourself man; she's 15! They attempted to steal from me as well. As stated earlier, I needed to get a smog check, and unfortunately, it failed. This man told me that I had to replace three parts in my car. Otherwise, it was un-drivable and "ready to explode." His words--not mine. I had read the reviews about this place and thought the entire situation was a tad fishy, so I took my car (Mercedes ML350) to two other auto repair shops. Both concluded that my car was fine! It had not failed the smog check, and this man had tried to scam me by making me purchase three new parts!! Imagine the shock I felt when they told me this!! Do not bring your service here. Also-- I am not one to judge at all, but there's always this creepy girl walking there, and once when I was desperate, I had to use the restroom, and she would not let me in there! I do not know who she is or what her job title is but that's not the way you treat a customer. This place is overridden with problems. It seems like I'm not the only person who thinks so and it also seems like the owner does not care. Careless on his/or her part because they are losing tons and tons of business. Save your money and time! I'm never coming here again whether it be for gas or repairs. I will not support a horrid organization like this one. AVOID at all costs! read more
