I went in a couple of weeks ago for an oil change and a transmission service. They overfilled my oil so much that the warning light came on. The only positive part of my experience is that they drained the excess oil the same day. A couple days later my transmission began slipping when the engine was cold and sent my Sprinter into limp mode. I took it to the dealership and found out Silver Star was short two quarts filling my transmission fluid. When I called them about the transmission fluid they insisted that it couldn't have been their fault. However the transmission issue went away as soon as it was properly filled at the dealership. read more

Trust your Gut. If you are a female RUN. Brought my 250 Coupe in for a service in MARCH 3/3/23 of course they tell you what your car "needs". I was told INTAKE tube was broken and Drive belt was faulty. Which is kinda funny bc My Car goes to the dealership and they NEVER MENTIONED THIS AT ALL. I asked to see the parts that were broken or needed replaced. Crickets, so Red flag about that. But Hey go ahead if you say its broken. Okay now April, 4/25/23 when im running no air bc its raining the noise of my hood was so loud, and loud like wtf loud. Mind you I take my car to dealership and NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS. Meaning get my car repaired and something else happens. Ok, so dealership and silver star mentions its the compressor. Silver star was cheaper, so i chose them over DEALER. Whyyyy... bc NOW ITS NOT BLOWING HOT AIR LESS THAN a month later and then in July right before the 4th. I get a texted from silver star about my car status, and then Boom AC is no longer blowing AT ALL!!! Im SURE THEY ARE INTENTIONALLY DOING SHI TO MY CAR TO KEEP ME COMING BACK AT THIS POINT! So DEALERSHIP IT IS, at least ITS GUARANTEES WITH THE DEALERSHIP. You cant TRUST 3rd party Shops bc some LACK INTEGRITY and COUNT POCKETS. Im 1 DRIVER AND HAD 1 other person besides the dealer under my HOOD. And have NEVER EXPERIENCED WHAT I EXPERIENCED WITH SILVER STAR. If there is an issue ask to see parts and let them show you, otherwise you are a FOOL! My Mercedes was dropped off on June 29th to have the carburetors adjusted, repaired or rebuilt. I had it towed home today, August 17. This shop advertises that they work on older Mercedes as well as newer models. I spoke with them and they said they could repair or rebuild my carburetors. They never attempted to work on my carburetors. The bill was $891.24. They did retorque the head. Their mechanic tried to turn the ignition key with the column lock and broke the lock. They charged me $647.27 for the repair. They did not advise me of the cost to repair their damage to the ignition lock. (It has a locking steering column. If the key won't turn you wiggle the steering wheel a bit. The mechanic tried to force it) My car is running much worse now, I'm out almost $900. read more

I took my BMW here and was told the motor was blown up. I took my car here because the ratings seemed good. Please do not be fooled this place will rob you the first chance they get. I had to tow it to another location for a second opinion who was in cahoots with this location. After taking it to another location I was told it was only the fuel pump not a blown up motor. read more

Silver star replaced fuel injection. They said it was ready to be picked up and ready to go. After Car was driven, it was blowing fuel on top of the engine. There are more problems now than before. Watch the video. I do not recommend coming here. read more

The transmission in my beloved 1984 300TD failed. Other shops I trust quoted me ~$5k for a remanufactured transmission installed, which squared with estimates I've seen on-line. John suggested opening up the existing transmission and replacing parts. He estimated $2500-$3k, roughly, without knowing exactly what was wrong inside. It cost $2700 in the end, making the perennial decision of whether to sink more money into the car easy. On a side note, five years ago I brought a different 1985 300TD in for a pre-purchase inspection, for which John had quoted about $100. He took one look at the engine, explained the trap oxidizer problem on California MB turbo diesels from 1985 on, told me not to buy it, and didn't charge me anything. He's a good guy! read more

Took my 2012 Mercedes to fix the Air Bag. Instead of fixing it, THEY "DAMAGED" IT & Blamed ME that "I" Damaged it. I took it their location to specifically get it fixed & rather fixing it, they Damaged it & then said that I broke it. How does this even make sense...?? How can you break something that's ALREADY Broken!!?? I even explicitly told them NOT proceed with the repair if there's uncertainty. Instead, the technician forced the part in place & broke it. They took out wires & damaged it. And They still continued trying charging me. The owner wouldn't even allow me speak to the technician. I have been in the automotive & repair industry for decades. Who is this guy trying to fool?? I have done a lot of research to selecting a place to fixing my car. Chose this place hoping they can fix the problem. I was wrong! Instead, they created MORE problems. Don't do business here! I regretted coming here. Now I am stuck with an unfixed broken airbag AND have to spend more money to get it fixed. Will be reporting these guys for misrepresentation & fraud! Like others say, they are a scam artist & THIEVES!! read more

Although my wife's 2004 clk320 needed more work than I had expected, John was very patient and answered all my questions without making me feel like I was being annoying (which I can be). Today he did a quick inspection to assist with bad (deceitful even) information I got at the Marconi Firestone regarding a "bad" wheel bearing preventing a proper alignment. A year ago I brought in my 2001 CLK 320 to get the gear shift assembly replaced (spilled coffee on it). John got the part quickly and did the work. I came to pick it up and paid around $1300 dollars for that repair along with a few other things like a brake switch. I drove a few blocks and quickly realized the manual shifting function did not work. It is an automatic of course but I use the manual function constantly, like when accelerating to merge on the freeway. I took it back to John and his words were "well, I didn't test drive it or nothin." Ok John, well I have a hard time believing you test drive it when I bring it in for other services then. I chose to be flexible so John wouldn't lose out on all his profits. I agreed to wait until he found another part instead of demanding a refund. This is something I think most reasonable customers would do. He said, "he would make me whole." I would call every month or 2 to check how the part hunt was going. They never called me once. All told I probably had 25-30 phone calls with the front desk guy sterling. This includes phone conversations for other services. It's like groundhog day with this guy. With each phone conversation, he remembers you less. In our last conversation, he said he didn't remember who I was even after I explained to him who I was. He said, "well I have a vague memory that John was looking for a part for you or something." I've been talking to you on the phone and in person for over a year! Frustrated, I told him he should write it down. He told me "that won't help, I talk to 50 people a day." So basically he is saying, there is nothing he can do to remember who I am and why I'm calling, even after I inform him of who I am and why I'm calling. I could tell you more but I'm done wasting my time on crooks. I believe that John takes care of some of his customers. He didn't take care of me though and that is a fact. John put in a faulty part, didn't test drive it, charged me full price, and never made the situation right. That is the definition of getting ripped off. read more

Been Using this place for 10+ years - John is a Nice guy, however, not the same place it used to be. Treated poorly and miss diagnosed​ a problem three times Despite it costing me for three visits. Several Hundred dollars. I inquired why he was charging - was that he has to pay his guys for doing the diagnosis. Really? Took in three times to determine you could not fix it unless I bought a new part? Why charge for the times you did not fix and mis diagnosed on your end? Have also taken in and they simply do not listen when requested to do some very minor adjustments. Further​, Set of Rear brakes on the most simplest​ project was over 500.00 plus a sched A/B (nothing big - oil change) all together was nearly 900.00 Serious, parts cost about 60 bucks from brakes and labor should been 1 hour max. John also has this saying on his desk about Paying average for job well done. Not to high, not to low and get what you pay for. Sorry John, seems like you are taking advantage of your customers now. This continues to happen and will no longer be taking my car to your place. read more

Although this company has a great reputation, I feel that I should explain my personal experience with Silver Star Motors. My car wasn't starting. I had power to everything in my car (lights, dash, radio, etc.) but the starter would not turn over, click, or do anything. It started once in literally 300 turns of the ignition.When I called this shop, they were confident that they could find the issue. Once I arrived and my car was pulled off a tow truck, they began looking at my car immediately. Their communication was great and I would be charged around $100-$140 (I dont remember the exact number) for an electrical circuit test. I mentioned that I thought it was related to my rear interior dome light, because this was the only light that wouldn't work when the switch was on, but they brushed that off as separate issue. ....Okay, I didnt think much of it at the time either......... but it was odd because it works when the car starts. They called back in maybe an hour or two to inform me that my neutral safety switch was bad ($70-$90) more for the fix, and I had a slight fuel leak too. We agreed to get it all fixed for around $200. Drive home. Next day, CAR WONT START! I called back to inform them, and they said bring it back. I got it towed a 2nd time, by the same AAA guy the next day. Get another call that they replaced a couple bad fuses, and car is good to go. Great! But what was really wrong the first time? Bring it home, 2 days later, CAR WONT START AGAIN!!!!!!!! Okay, by now I took 2 days off work, spent $200, used 2 of my 3 AAA tows, and still had the same issue. I checked the fuse panel, and looked for that rear interior dome light that was acting funny that I originally mentioned to the front desk. The fuse was not broken but very corroded. Popped a new one in and BAM! My car has started every time since. The Germans ingeniously have the starting system and rear dome light on the same circuit . Pop the fuse out = no start. I'll be honest, I was so frustrated and angry that I never returned, and probably never will. This was my first experience at a shop since I do most repairs myself, and I was completely ripped off. I will forever be weary of automotive shops, and I understand that there is trial and error involved, but this was too much error for me. I give 2 stars for getting me in and out so quickly, and I know they are legendary in the area for Mercedes repair, but we weary. This shop and any other still have one ultimate goal..... make $$$ read more

Unprofessional & very deceitful. Never fixed all of the car. Had to go elsewhere, after they kept the vehicle for a week. Final price was double the quote, & double competitors' pricing, (I found out later). Exorbitant, marked up prices with poor quality of work & they left my car w black grease marks inside - all over the ceiling & visor, & left wires & parts exposed in the back. Some parts were even lost- w no explanation or concern about it. I was shocked. I was told "too bad", "go buy new ones", we don't know what happened with that... a shrug & that was it. I own a 2005 C230 Kompressor, I moved here from the Bay Area seeking a reputable auto repair place and I found that here at Silver Star Motors with John. I have a hundred ninety thousand plus miles on my car and needed to have an alternator replaced in which he took care of, and smog issues that he resolved. Since then I've had a oil change, a new fuel filter, a automatic transmission oil change, some repairs done to my coolant lines, and John and his crew have handled it professionally every single time. Knowing that I owned a Mercedes and not a cheap American/ Japanese car, I expected it to be expensive, being that I shopped around a little (as all responsible car owners should do!!!), but John was very reasonable with his labor cost and parts for all my situations. I've owned multiple Mercedes through the years (a couple SLs, E350, ML350, S600, CLK430..) and I wouldn't take my vehicles anywhere else to be serviced, everytime I can avoid the dealership I'll come to this place. John (owner) is honest and doesn't jerk me around when something needs to be fixed on one of my vehicles, and he's pretty upfront about the cost/labor charges so you know what you're dealing with.
