But I got a reasonable quote and the longest warranty that I was able to get quoted from anywhere else, including the dealer. They were very communicative, very informative and they made the experience a very un stressful situation as stressed as I was going into the situation. They mentioned it looked like the torque converter. I took it to Scotty he was fair and square. He quoted me $90 to look at it and then $4100 to rebuild it. The transmission is smooth I am happy and I saved about $2000 over the dealership. I just came back from my two week check up there are no leaks everything looks great and I am one happy customer. I have to say their level of customer service and the way they interacted with me talking to me as a partner and not down to me as a woman with a transmission problem I am impressed!! Update as of February 16, 2020: It turned out that Ford sent two bad torque converters and warranted them to Scotty's. Scotty pulled my transmission twice to fix the problem. Each time he was friendly and solution oriented I am so impressed with the integrity of Scotty and Brian and A-1. They responded very quickly, priced fairly, and even provided time slots they had open, so I headed to the shop that same Saturday. When I arrived, they quickly directed me to pull in to start the service. It seems like I had just sat down when they called me back out to show me the the underside of the van. They wanted to know where I'd done the prior oil changes since whoever did them had stripped the tread on the pan from tightening the bolt too tight. I could clearly see that what they were saying was true and the pan had no tread and had been leaking oil this whole time. There really would be no way to do the oil change without also changing the pan. I asked how much that replacement would cost, and told them to go ahead complete the repair along with the oil change. This is my mom's mini van that I was going to drive back down to LA, so definitely wanted to ensure I was safe. I was told it would take 2-3 hours, but was quickly out in about 1.5. They even provided a discount when I paid since the repair was unexpected and fast, which I really appreciate. They pointed out some other concerns, but did not force any repairs on me, which I am grateful for. Will definitely be coming back for any future oil changes and repairs.

They did a borescope of the cylinders and found abrasions on the cylinder walls and traced the noise towards the bottom of the engine. Unfortunately, to further troubleshoot they would have had to open the engine, a bit time consuming and a costly repair if the piston components were damaged. The news was unfortunate but I just wanted an honest assessment rather than just shotgunning parts like the last shop that tried to troubleshoot the issue.
