As most people know the Golden Village is the best place to walk around and have meals here and there. Silver Tower is just one of the many that have good prices for a good portion of food. With a dark atmosphere it brings in a modern look once you step in. It's a good place to go to when you are on the go looking for a hearty meal. They have different menus depending on the time of day, whether it'd be breakfast, lunch or dinner. The portions also depend on the time of day. There are a variety of different types of dishes from Asian cuisine to western. It was alright. Comfy seating, food was average. I got their baked pork chop on rice which is an HK cafe staple. I felt there wasn't enough cheese though, and they could have put more tomato sauce on. However the pork chop was still very crispy even under the sauce and overall I would say this was quite well done. Love the cutlet fish here, I always get the mix and match ($10 for 2 choice, $13 for 3 choice) comes with soup and a hot/cold drink. They do a pretty decent milk tea as well, not as sweet as other places. Service is good, all you need to do is ask, if you sit there and don't wave at or call a server don't expect much. Neither the cream soup nor the borscht are particularly good but they're up to food court standards I guess. Like almost everybody else here, I went with the 2 meat combo, since that seemed like the best deal haha. I got the Korean style short ribs and the fish cutlet. It was actually really tasty and a lot better than expected! The Korean short ribs were on the chewier side, but the meat had been really well marinated and retained a lot of flavour. The fish cutlet was thick, lightly battered, and very fragrant. The black pepper sauce that came on the side overwhelmingly salty. However, the hollandaise sauce that came with the cutlet was delicious, it wasn't too sweet nor too sour. My meal also came with soup, and I went with the HK style cream soup. It was alright, a tad bit watered down, but it had chunks of chicken in it. All combos also come with a free hot drink! It's an extra $1 if you want to make it iced, as is with most HK cafes. I waited a long time for my food, but the waitress did come over to apologize for the wait, which I thought was better service than most HK cafes. read more

I used to frequent this place back in the day when it was called Golden Award. Well, according to the waitresses, Silver Tower is a completely different business. The ambiance and faces may have changed, but this spot still stands as a satisfying Hong Kong-style cafe to visit with small or large groups. FOOD: Generous and well-prepared portions at very reasonable prices, especially if you get one of the sets that includes a beverage. Some even come with soup. Can't go wrong with something like BAKED PORK CHOP CUTLET ON RICE ($7.25) or CURRY PORK CHOP ON RICE ($7.50). My group must really like pork chops, because we added an entree (not a set) of honey-garlic pork chops -- to our surprise and delight, it consisted of a large plate piled high with pork chops. If you don't need the carbs (rice) and sugar (drink), the entree dishes are definitely the biggest meat bang for your loonie buck. DRINKS: Typical HK cafe drinks -- coffee, tea, lemon tea, lemon coke, horlicks, even coffee WITH tea. And all drinks can come hot or cold. That's right, you can have a cup of hot Coca-cola. Try it. One of my fav Honger cafes. Located in the heart of richmond golden village, right beside matsuyama on alexandra rd. Usually mini set menu available here from opening-6pm and 9-close. Quite the standard. They have a nice combo meal as well. Choose 2 or 3 meats (8.95 and 11.95 respectively), comes with soup, rice or spaghetti, sauce, hot/cold drink. I find that this place has one of the best combo meals. Their minute steak is actually a steak, not just a thin slice of beef and they are actually capable of cooking it medium rare. Service is efficient and quick. It's usually the same bunch of waitresses. They do their job well. Friendliness is the same as your standard asian place, they dont go over the top to make you feel like a king/queen, but you definitely wouldnt complain about them. read more

Came here on a Thursday with a friend around 6:30. We were seated right away which was nice. The service was fine. The food that I ordered as surprisingly delicious which was great but my friend's order was a bit of a fusion miss. The portion sizes were pretty big which was great. It is a family friendly place so be ready for loud screaming children. Overall I had a pleasant meal, with typical Asian restaurant service, at a reasonable price given the amount of food I got. We came in here a few days ago at around 9ish with a huge party..I'm saying like 17+ people at least. It was rather last minute and we didn't really reserve, but they had enough seats for all of us and were happy to move tables around to accommodate us. I was impressed with their professionalism as they never showed any displeasure or bad attitude towards the sudden arrival of ~20 hungry guests Most of us got the 2/3 item combo, and you can imagine it was a bit hectic with the orders. But again, the servers (two middle aged Cantonese ladies) were extremely professional and courteous, even going around refilling tea. In large parties, the food can often be rushed and undercooked, but not in this case. Both the meat items from my combination plate (minute steak and beef short rib) were cooked nicely and piping hot. My drink didn't come, but when I asked the server she got me one right away no questions asked. Overall I was extremely impressed with how they handled such a large group at such short notice. I didn't have high expectations for my meal, as food quality is often overlooked when serving big parties, but my food as excellent as the service we received. Oh, and they even split the bill for us without asking! Made it very easy for us to pay. Hopefully next time I will come back with a smaller, more manageable party :) read more

This place feels like shooting star cafe from Oakland. The style and atmosphere feel the same. Their dishes are slightly smaller though. The food is pretty good and not super expensive, but could always be a little better. Breakfast Review TL;DR version: It's okay. There aren't that many places to eat breakfast in Richmond and I think a lot of you out there also realize that, however, there are also a lot of options when going to hk style cafes in this part of town. Silver Tower just isn't one that I'd usually would recommend to anyone that isn't a Richmond citizen. I've heard many good things from all my other chinese friends about this place. I've heard how their portions are good, how the food tastes great, and how service is decent. Myself on the other hand have yet to make such a claim about them. Not that I'm going to say that they've pissed me off, but simply stating that I haven't experienced such things. I've been to Silver Tower a handful of times in the past couple years and each time I get a pretty constant experience. I'd walk in and get seated by a emotionless waitress, she'd throw me a Chinese only menu, and then proceed to come back to the table every 2 minutes asking if I'm ready to order yet...feels like they're in a rush to get you food.. I should note now that I'm a CBC.. meaning I can read a bit of chinese, but definitely not an entire menu. After the order goes in however, the service from the waitresses stop and never would you see them walk back up to your table to refill your tea.. and the only time they'll stop by your table is to give you the bill. Quite efficient I guess... If you want to think about it that way.. Ah there is also another exception, that is if you're already friends with the staff.. In that case, they would hang around your table all the time to start small talk with you. But lets get to what matters... The food. In short.. The food is ok.. I mean... If you order a chicken and ham omelet.. you're going to get exactly a chicken and ham omelet. Is that bad? no. Is it good? It's alright. Does make you remember them? Hell... No.. Maybe I'm nitpicking a little.. but it doesn't hurt to maybe.. put a piece of toast on the plate or make your omelets with peas or carrots too? The main issue I have is really just with the service however.. Don't let me influence your decisions with food quality. Because lets be honest.. with all hk cafes, you already know what you're getting the instance you decide to go there. And Silver Tower wont disappoint in that regard. read more

Silver Tower is the HK cafe that occupies the space once held by Golden Award (one of my favourite haunts/HK cafes). As reflected by the name change, there was definitely a downgrade in quality after the management change (but the waitstaff is still the same). Gone are the liquid sugar on the side to go with your cold drinks so they you can sweeten to your liking. Gone are the carrots slices they used to put in the baked pork chop on rice. Now you have a sleeker, dimly lit eating space. However, this HK cafe is still cranking out solid food in large portions at great prices. Although it cannot live up to the old Golden Award glory, it still carries some of the things that made GA a hit (i.e. no charge for cold drinks & $0.50 refills on your specialty coffee/tea drinks). Always delivering on the staples dishes. Being open until 3AM every night makes this an excellent choice for late-night eats - much better IMO than #9. However, the crown for best HK cafe has moved across the street to Kam Do - but when Kam Do is closed, Silver Tower is your best bet. read more

We entered "late night" into Yelp. This place was listed as open until 3 AM. It's a smallish cafe located in a strip mall, and it offers a large, inexpensive menu featuring both Chinese and western dishes. We ordered chicken curry over rice, and shrimp and scallops over broccoli. Tea, hot or cold, is included as is steamed rice. Next to us a family with kids was eating spaghetti and hot dogs with french fries.. The portions were large; the service, attentive; and the flavor, memorable. I didn't think there could be such a thing as memorable broccoli, theirs melted in my mouth. Cash only. They accepted my US dollars at the correct exchange rate without gouging me (even steven as I write this). Even though there must be 10,000 Asian restaurants in Richmond, BC, we will be sure to come here again before we leave town. read more

Coffee milk tea - bitter no sugar. They charge extra if you want condense milk. Where we are from in LA, condense milk is included. Service: rude waitress that check us out. She rush us to pay and demanded minimum 10% tips. We were going to tip more initially before she open her mouth but decided to do less because of her big mouth. Late night meal on a Sunday. Got introduced to this venue. Very long menu and lots to choose from. I was curious about the hainanese chicken but decided to play it safe for a first try litmus: three meat mix and match with cutlet basa, grilled ox tongue, and lamb chops. First of all, the cream soup doesn't look impressive but it was fantastic as a starter. The meal was impressive in the sense that I got exactly want I wanted: filling, not bland, and tasty. Hot oil does spice up the white rice a lot. I got a grass jelly/red bean cooler on the side. The cooler wasn't done well with blocky unbroken ice but it was a treat. Overall, $17 for a super late midnight meal with all the fixings and feeling stuffed afterwards. Good for the timing and demands. Tea washed everything down. Cleansed my palette. The mix and match is definitely worth it. In other words, nothing amazing but fulfills all metrics for what we wanted. Will return. read more

Comparing this restaurant to Copa Cafe is like comparing Robin Hood vs a Greedy pig. You get more food at Silver Tower for a fraction of the price. For example, we get the choice of 3 make your own meal set. 9.75 includes soup and a cold drink. Can you say amazing? What about the taste you say? It's MF Amazingly good. Beware like most other Chinese restaurants they only accept cash. I've been here two times so far. I've had the Buddha's Feast the first time and then the coconut mango pork rice the second time. As HK style cafes go this is not bad. This spot used to be one of my all time favorites back in the day ..... OH GOLDEN AWARD !!!! HOW I MISS YOU !! The room is typical crappy asian interior design. Obviously the owner cheaped out and either hired (or for free) a crappy interior designer, or just decided to wing it himself. The tables are small and close-ish. Really the draw is the food. Big portions and decent pricing. The quality isn't top-notch but better than average. The service is so-so ..... as long as it isn't late and they are talking to their girlfriends on their cell phones or gabbing with the chefs that think they are old school Hong Kong gangsters. LOL Seriously, who are you going to impress ??? Open late, and actually a decent place to study late night as it isn't too busy after 11pm and they're open til 3am. I'm guessing the weekend would be busier around that time. But, I did manage to get an hour or so or studying in while having dinner. read more

I'm from the Bay Area and was craving for baked pork chop rice. I read the reviews and this place sounded so promising. I got there and got a call from my friend who lives in Richmond. She told me not to go and that it is a cafe that her family would not choose. I almost exited the parking lot after talking to her but I decided to go in because of the reviews. I made the right choice by staying. Their baked pork chop rice was soooooo good! Just like what one of the reviewers said, the pork chops stayed crispy even after they have been baked with the sauce over them. I learned afterwards that you can ask for extra sauce when you place your order but not after you have received the order. The baked seafood rice was not impressive though. Waitresses were not the friendliest people but I went there for the food. I don't care. Portion was much smaller than what I am used to from the Bay Area. I had high expectations of this place after reading positive reviews on Yelp. The pictures were deceiving. We went to this place on a Sunday, around lunch time. It was pretty busy. We ordered the shrimp swirl egg noodles and baked bolognese. I was super disappointed. The bake spaghetti did not taste authentic at all. It tasted like ketchup noodles and the cheese wasn't meltly at all. The shrimp noodles were just a bit better. The russian borscht & french toast was ok too, not very tasty. Don't get me started on customer service. This was one thing I didn't expect much from, but they were extremely slow in getting our order in and to ask for anything else wouldl take another 10 min! I've had much better HK cafe food in Seattle & SF and I've tried a lot of HK cafes in my life. Needless to say, I won't be returning to this place. read more

When we were there at around 2-ish on a Friday afternoon, there were plenty parking spaces in the parking lot. The food is okay, nothing spectacular. In terms of portion size, I have to say that it is large side. As for service, some of the servers have attitude problems resulting in less than ideal experience at the restaurant. First time coming here and can't exactly say it was anything above mediocre. I ordered the Borscht soup as a starter which was quite bland and had absolutely no meat in it at all. For the main course I got the spaghetti bolognese which basically just tasted like spaghetti with a poor excuse of meat sauce if you could even call it that. Not to mention their restroom is absolutely disgusting. The stall was basically covered in what seemed like brown and bubbly mould growing on both sides. Its total lack of atmosphere and decoration makes this place seem like a funeral for bad food. The only reason I'm giving it two stars was because the wait time was quite fast and I was too hungry to really care. I came here 'cause it was cheap and they had a combo special. There wasn't much choice in the area and my stomach was screaming for food. The food is not that great, overly greasy that makes you feel worse than when you started but that is just me and my stomach, everyone else seems to like it. Myself on the other hand come here 'cause it was open really late. One of the few places in and around that area that was open late. I came here after working late on set.
