Loved Silverado!! Trying to hit up all the Great American Restaurants and this was one for the books. Atmosphere: Very Texan and fun - it can get loud in here, depending on which area you're in. Food: I'm a big fan of almost everything they have here. Complimentary breads (like the breads you can get from all the Great American Restaurant - mmmm the sweet donuts) and chips and salsa (the only restaurant in this group that serves this)! Very good to all of them. You can see from my pictures the size of the portions and how delicious everything looks. I highly recommend the Fajitas (huge portions) and Ribs. The Fajitas, no matter which meats you pick, can last you 2-3 meals. Everything is so good!! I also liked their crab cakes. Then the desserts - I recommend the chocolate cake with ice cream as that is my favorite everywhere. Service: All the wait staff here are very nice. Another Great American Restaurant (GAR) off the list. I am now down to 3 remaining; Best Buns, Jackson's, and Artie's. Not bad for somebody who has only spent roughly 2 years in Northern Virginia to be experiencing all of this (unless you want to count my 14 month stint in Manassas). I have always heard good things about Silverado. So I decided to give this a try with a friend for a brunch (yes, GAR does amazing brunches). The decor is Southwestern style, kinda like Sweetwater Tavern, but without the microbrewery feel. At first I thought I was going to be disappointed because they do not serve Ozzie rolls here, and then I remembered, brunch! Only on weekends at GAR do they provide Ozzie rolls at most restaurants. Not only that, but they douse them in cinnamon and sugar to turn them into donuts! Ozzie's does this too, to great effect. For the main course, I got myself the BBBC French Toast with bacon and eggs. My friend got the breakfast chicken fajitas. I also had to get myself a mimosa. Everything looks and tastes as it should. My friend really enjoyed his fajitas and by the looks of it they supply it just like you would prepare a breakfast taco. It would be like making 4 breakfast tacos! If I come back here I will definitely give this a try. The French toast was good too! Okay, I will back up a bit. The hash browns, bacon, eggs, and fruit were on point. The bread was soggy, even though it was a great portion. I would probably not order it again. At least I had some Ozzie's to snack on to save the meal. Again, I am not suggesting what I had was bad, it was just on par for what I expected French toast to be, nothing more or less. Oh, the Mimosa was good too. Pulp free orange juice and not overpowering with champagne. It was just weird to see it in a small glass and not a champagne flute. But that was just a fun quirk I do not mind seeing because it was done right. A bit of a shutout goes to our server, Breana, who worked hard to ensure we were enjoying ourselves and provided exceptional customer service. I have a visitor from West Coast and want to have American Food. So we screened through Yelp's recommendations and decided to go to Silverado. Overall, we had a good time here. Their settings and decors are traditional style with wooden tables & chairs. Services was fast Food: We ordered one appetizer and three entrees: Spinach Dip, Glazed Pork Chop (well done), Wood Grilled Chicken, and Cheddar Cheeseburger. We really enjoyed the appetizer. It's creamy and smooth with lots of spinach. I did asked for well done Pork Chop but I got charred . When I told the server, his response was that's what we served for well done. I was quite disappointed with his response. But, I didn't want to make a big fuss since my guests were enjoying theirs. So, I just finished the mashed potatoes and corn salad. read more

3.5 Nestled in the center of Koreatown... I mean Annandale, we find Silverado in a pretty run-down strip mall. As part of the GAR, I expected good food and good times. I went there with a friend on a saturday night and as suggested on their website, we got reservations. Surprisingly, when we got there, we realized we didn't need reservations at all. The waiter, and really all of the staff were extremely well-trained. They were all very attentive, polite, and gave the best reccomendations when it came to the food. They've actually eaten it before, which indicates that it is a good place. They give you free bread (like any other GAR, it's nice and buttery) and chips and salsa. The salsa was a star. It was nice and savory and not too overly tart. I got the kind-of surf and turf special... That is, the crab cake and 5 oz. sirloin. I was also able to switch out the mash potatoes for sweet potato fries. My only grip about this place is the price. The food itself was fabulous, the crab cake was mostly crab and not cake and the sirloin was perfectly prepared medium rare. However, if you check out the photo, the portions were so miniscule. I am not a fan of the big gulp, but you don't get much for a $30 meal. That's why i can only give it a 3.5 stars. read more

Can't say enough good things about this place. Have dined here over 10+ times and every time, our food and service has been top notch. Salsa and chips are free as well as a basket of bread (try the aussie rolls)! I've had the tex mex egg rolls, calamari, drunken ribeye, chicken tenders, monterey chicken salad, hickory grilled chicken breast and pasta, bacon cheeseburger, fajitas (steak and chicken), and the salmon filet. All are delicious and always cooked perfectly with tons of flavor. Sides I usually get that I enjoy are their fries (shoe string ones so you can literally eat a million) and mashed potatoes. Their honey mustard sauce is also SO GOOD. Also have been here for brunch where they give you sugar cinnamon aussie rolls! Have tried the bubble and squeak and crab cakes benedict and would get both again (the crab cakes are slightly better but you can't go wrong with either). The stars are for the bread, chips, fajitas and service, all of which are excellent. The other food I've had there has not been. Specifically, on a recent trip, I tried the pulled pork sandwich. The sauce was very smoky (which I didn't like, but I accept that differs as a matter of taste). What I don't accept was the very large pieces of pork fat that were in the sandwich. They were so covered in bbq sauce and hard to identify that each time I took a bite, I felt like I was playing a game of battleship, as to whether I'd end up with a mouth full of pork fat. read more

Silverado is part of the Great American Restaurants it is similar to Sweet Water Tavern. Originally we were trying to go to Sweet Water but their wait was too long. Silverado was busy so be sure to call ahead of time. The atmosphere at Silverado was a lot of fun, the decor on the wall was nice as well. The location is a bit off grid but gives it more character. The service was great, we had our waitress and other wait staff come and check in on us. Be sure to ask them for some Ozzie rolls because that is what the Great American Restaurants are known for. The food itself was good. The artichoke dip was fantastic with crispy tortilla chips. The shoestring fries with steak were good, but we both agreed the steak was okay just not worth the price in comparison to other restaurants we have had for steak. The tex mex egg rolls were okay, I wouldn't recommend them as the filling would keep falling apart and the egg rolls weren't too crispy kind of like a baked tortilla, it wasn't bad but we wouldn't order it again. Overall it's 4 stars. Next time we come here we will try their sandwiches and grab a dessert. read more

I thought of Silverado since I was just at Celebrate Fairfax, and I spun the wheel to win a $10 Great American Restaurant gift card. There's a chance I will use it here, but I want to try Sweetwater in Merrifield. Also, this review can be a part of my dating series. Went to Silverado twice in Aug. 2013 & Jan. 2017. Date in August 2013: I had a $25 gift card that I had won, and I told this girl I was interested in that I had gotten to know some in the earlier part of 2013. She grew up in Annandale and was familiar with the good food at Silverado. Since I had this $25 gift card, I had gotten of the steaks, maybe the prime rib with potatoes. I remember the steak was excellent, and I felt so lucky to be a customer eating this juicy steak. I think she might've gotten a steak too or something similarly priced. As for the date, my $25 gift card covered my steak still had to pay a little out of pocket certainly for the tip, but add hers in, the total after tax & tip might've been around $40. At some point, after I forked my credit card & paid, somehow she mentioned something about her boyfriend. She totally took advantage of a free meal, and it wasn't right! January 2017: I was in an a Capella group, and we had a rehearsal very close to here. After rehearsal, the director asked if people wanted to go to Silverado. I hadn't eaten dinner, I enthusiastically said yes, that place is good! I was kind of hoping that more people would show. It was just the director, his girlfriend, & me. I felt like a bit of a third wheel, but they did include me in the conversation. We talked politics, and that we were still in shock that we would have a 'President Trump' in 3 days. Ah GAR, where has the spark gone? I used to be a fan, going all the way back to Fritzbe's; but the older I get, the less I like you. I'm not sure if it's me or you. Maybe it's you. I don't feel wowed by you. I don't find value in you. Maybe it's the sameness of the menus, whether it's your seafood restaurant or your Italian restaurant or your flagship Silverado's, etc. Maybe it's the cost to value ratio. I feel as though I could get better food at a smaller family restaurant for far less money and feel happier about it. I really , really like Silverado , I have been coming here for years since it opened. I have always had excellent service and food is always delicious! I came for a late lunch yesterday, so it wasn't prime hours. The food was still great only problem was our waiter , I guess he was new but he messed up my order my companions order was fine but anyways I had the filet and asked him to please substitute a baked potato instead of mashed potatoes and that the salad that came with it be chopped salad instead of the one with the champagne dressing. Well both came out wrong, I hate to send food back and I know it probably would not be a big deal to some, but I love their baked potato and their chopped salad. Silverado is a staple in the Annandale area and is always a great spot to meet up with friends. What separates them from the other GAR restaurant is the Fajitas they offer which are delicious! They also bring chips and homemade salsa/Ozzie rolls. Since being a frequent customer at this location I do have a few recommendations. Please see below: - Bring back the original early bird menu which had Pork Chops, Fajitas (4-530PM - M/Thur) - Salsa seems very thick now with a different taste. Not sure if I had a bad batch my most recent visit or the recipe change. - Offer more vegan friendly options, from what I understand the GAR owners are vegan themselves but offer extremely limited to no options. It becomes difficult taking friends to the restaurant. - More unique sides (brussel sprouts, sweet potatoes, cauliflower, kale salad) - Bring back the E in exceptional service. It seems like this has changed over the recent years. - Price point on steaks have increased over the years. Offer dry aged steak or grass fed burgers for the price. read more

Silverado is part of a plaza in Annandale that doesn't look like much in passing, but is host to several great merchants. Silverado is also part of the Great American restaurant family of Northern Virginia, which includes some standout places like Mike's Great American Grill, The Carlyle, Sweetwater Tavern, Best Buns Bread....just to name a few. Now Silverado is not the place your going to name as your greatest foodie memory in the DC area, but if you want a good quality meal, large menu and portions, solid customer service and you live nearby, then look no further, this is your place. They have a full bar (sports bar style with a big screen TV) and plenty of seating in the surrounding dining area. My husband and I were seated quickly, explained the specials and ordered drinks. The staff was very polite. Our drinks arrived in a timely manner and we then ordered our appetizer and entree. I also would be remiss if I did not mention you get free bread or chips and salsa. We though the chips and salsa were great and even happier when a waiter offered to bring us more salsa as ours was running low...great service. ThecTex Mex eggs rolls are very tasty. We ordered the steak fajita dinner for two. Again, great food....didn't knock my socks off, but the steak was tender (we ordered it medium rare), plenty of roasted vegetables and sides to build a good steak taco. Could have used a little more seasoning, but that is basically splitting hairs on palette preference. We were to full for dessert....even had left overs to take home. We originally wanted to eat at mikes but they only had reservations that weren't available in our time frame so we decided to have New Year's Eve dinner at the next best place. I love the ambiance and how warm and cozy the place felt. The lights were very dim but still had enough lighting so see and eat your food. Since we had reservations we were seated right away and our server was very friendly. For apps we ordered the crispy fried point Judith calamari with onion straws and lobster ginger sauce that was to die for. I ordered a bacon cheese burger that came with a side of fries cooked at medium well and it was very delicious. We arrived for Friday night dinner, the restaurant was not packed but service seriously sucked! Our drink order was taken relatively quickly but it was 5-7 minutes before we received them. Appetizer plates at the end of the table were dirty, food suck on them, brown sauce/beverage soiled another plate. Our appetizer arrived and it was good, our food arrived and our server checked in on us once after it arrived. Our water cups were empty most of the meal(we got one refill that we had to ask for even though we placed our cups at the end of the table in full view of the staff they were empty and needed refilling. We were seated right next to the service station so we were right in their line of sight, to include the manager who spent a significant time there) It was so bad that we sat with empty plates and cups for about 10 minutes before a different sever dropped off our bill. We didn't ask for it, he didn't bother asking us if we wanted dessert just dropped off our check, rude! We ordered the roasted chicken quesadilla, pork chops, chicken pasta, and roasted chicken salad. We also ordered the spinach dip and southwest salad to to. Went to Silverado for Sunday brunch and the food was absolutely delish! Had a party of 10 and they were able to seat us off a walk in. To the food: We ordered a little bit of everything! They start with those delicious donut style bites (that are famous to some of the other Great American spots) and other bread AND chips & salsa. So don't get too full ordering extra appetizers! For entrees we had a mix of food. A few folks had the short smoked salmon that was cooked perfectly, the filet mignon & eggs, the brioche French toast and finally the brunch portion of the brunch fajitas. I had the brunch steak fajitas that was cooked medium to perfection. Be mindful it was a LOT of food on that platter, with eggs, potatoes, rice, steak & onions and the fajitas and traditional toppings (guacamole, sour cream, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese). Everything was delicious! Only point that kept them from 5 stars, was this mysterious $6 charge on the bill that was explained as a charge for cheese, which we did not ask for, but apparently was supposed to come on the eggs for all the platters and was brought out after the food was already being eaten. Horrible service, horrible management. Do not come here if you want good service. Apparently if you eat at this restaurant, they assume you've eaten here many times before and you know you have to beg for the free bread that they offer bag for the free nachos that they offer if you walk in they don't ask you if you want a table, even though the bar has got 100 customers and nobody is eating at the tables so the bartender is busier than a one arm bandit you get no service nobody's looking out for you you you have to beg stand up, wave your hands for anybody to come over. This is a horrible experience. I asked for the manager he was rude. He was racist. He was as nasty as he could be. Some young man named Jeff. He claimed to be the Management, but I doubt he was because if he is, he's a horrible manager I don't think the experience could've been more and the management reaction couldn't have been more awful. They kept saying that if you're one or two people we throw you at the bar no matter how many customer the bar has no matter how many how few customers the waiters have And every table was two people, but he kept saying oh if you're one or two people we automatically put you at the bar how am I supposed to know that they didn't ask? This is a horrible restaurant here. I guess if you come here all the time and you know all the tricks and you don't care about bad management. I can not say enough good things about this place. I'm so glad Annandale has one of the Great American chains. The restaurant can get packed for good reasons of course but instead of the call ahead seating they take reservations so remember to make one. The service and staff here is always friendly. Only downside is the waiting area. Its so small that sometimes its hard to breathe. The food is excellent here. 10/10 every time. When they ask if you want bread just ask for aussie rolls. Dont even try to other breads its not worth it. I always ask for a second basket because I can eat three myself. Three rolls, not baskets. Go to dishes are the fajitas and the Monterey chicken salad. Also leave room for dessert and try the bread pudding. I love it so much, its one of my profile pics! read more

Excellent food, hot, and Well seasoned like it should be. However, Oyster today were a joke! They were the size of marbles surrounded by lettuce with Blue cheese. I found more lettuce than Oysters. They need to take a hint from Blackwell Hitch restaurants, Oysters are large, plump, and juicy with a light batter and fried beautifully light brown. The point is you can see what they are and they look delicious. Silverado needs to find a new vendor or start fishing for their own oysters. Take this off until you Do It Right. Silverado is our place to go after something special, before something, and after something completely ordinary on a day we want to do something special. It's a reward. Every out of town goes with us during their stay, and ask to go back later. Prime rib on the weekends is unbelievable-and I am a prime rib woman, you all! But one thing you can always say to newcomers: you cannot lose with any item on the menu. If some rare, bizarre reason something isn't to your liking, they'll make it right but quick! All the Great American Restaurants are favorites of ours, but we find Silverado such a great mix of quality and price. read more

This is our go-to restaurant when we dont feel like cooking or after a long day at work. We probably eat here at least 1-2 times a week, and sometimes have brunch on Sunday's. My wife and I, along with our 2 boys always feel welcomed and at home. This is one of the few restaurants we frequent that you can literally order anything off the menu and it will exceed your expectations. The staff as a whole work together to make it a great dining experience, even down to the front staff remembering our kids' names. Our last waitress (Julie/Julia sp?) was exceptionally professional and friendly. They start you off with chips/salsa and a basket of bread (ozzy rolls are ahhhmazing). For appetizers, southwestern eggrolls, lobster bisque and chop house salad are all winners. My go to entree is either the steak fajita, or filet and crab cake. The filet is always cooked perfectly and rivals steaks that cost 2-3x as much. One thing not on the menu is a drink called texas torando. Its a juice cocktail that always hits the spot if you want to switch it up. This place is very kid friendly. Lots of options, and the hostess will hand out an etch-a-sketch to keep them occupied. Kids rotate between grilled cheese, burgers and chicken fingers. I know its hard to mess up a grilled cheese sandwich, but its the best i have ever tasted. This is my son's (and my) favorite restaurant. We love the Ozzie rolls, butter, salmon, fajitas, and flourless chocolate waffle! All good!
