It was good with light, golden browned coating on flaky fish. Chips were firm -cooked just right. I had the special"dinner before the show" which is available 5-6:00. It included a cup of soup, 5 oz steak with garlic olive oil mashed Prato and green beans, followed by a pot of chocolate dessert. All was delicious and the tab was only $44 including one soft drink. Every once in awhile, you have that special nearly perfect meal. Where the location, timing, ambience, staff and flavors make the perfect mixture to create a great memory. We had one of those nights tonight, our last night in Port Townsend. We started with cocktails then switched to wine for the meal. I had gluten-free fettuccini alfredo with shrimp and the house salad with strawberries. My gentleman Jeff had the garden salad plus salmon with blackberries special. (Cooked perfectly). My goodness - all amazing. Even my pasta not being their traditional homemade noodle worked perfectly for me. If there were 4.5 stars to give, that would be my true rating. Saturday night in November- no reservation- no wait times. The Lentil Veggie Burger was below average. The bun was not toasted, and therefore turned to almost mush with the warmer temperature of the very soft and bland Lentil Burger. The coleslaw was bland. My partner had the Ahi. His green salad that came with it was very small, and nothing special. Considering the prices, there is room for improvement. It seems like the cook(s)/ chef? does not pay attention to details. Beware!!!! Terrible experience with staff - and owner non-responsive. Our family is in the restaurant business, and we know it is hard. But our experience at this Cafe was uniquely bad. We leave this review because owner ignored our attempt to discuss privately. We walked into the half-empty Cafe on Wednesday (during school year), at 12:10pm for lunch. There were empty tables both in front room (near windows) and back room (near kitchen door). We were seated by a teenaged (19 years old?) boy host who was unhappy and nasty. He showed us (2 middle-aged women), 2 tables (seating 2 people) next to kitchen door, and told us we could "take it or leave it". We decided to stay, since the Cafe had been recommended to us by a local resident. Our food was fine (although we were disappointed that reuben was served cold). We declined dessert, paid bill, and left tip in tray. At this point, we had been seated at the table for 50 minutes. Boy host (who we believe is the owner's son - his tone and attitude indicated he felt free to be abusive) then came to our table and said: "Ladies, it's time for you to leave". We were stunned. We've eaten at places all over the world - and this was a first. We asked "why?" [Note: The Cafe was open for another 3 hours. There were empty tables all around us. Other patrons who had been seated before us were still there.] Boy host told us that he was going "to turn" our specific table for new customers. We saw no one waiting. We asked where new customers were. He said they were "around". We said we were not done with our sodas, and declined to leave. Notably, boy host did not approach any of the male customers & direct them to leave. Five minutes later, boy host seated 2 elderly women at empty 4-top table next to us. We then asked our waitress for names of owners (and name of boy host). We called later that afternoon and asked to speak to owners about unpleasant experience with boy host. We were told "Alison" would be given the message. Owner "Alison" never responded. read more

First visit to Pt. Townsend. Had no idea what to expect. Picked this restaurant because it looked interesting. We arrived at about 11:45. It's a great little place. It's relatively small and the front of the house where the big windows are, filled up quickly. The back of the house has quirkier seating. They've dressed it up with local photographs but the seating is awkward. We were seated right away, got our water, and drink orders were taken very quickly. 3 of us ordered the lamb burgers. They were amazing. Among the best I have ever had. Our 4th person got the washington apple salad, which she enjoyed. We didn't wait long for the food. The service was great and the prices were very fair. I was impressed with the depth of the menu and the various seafood offerings. We will be back again. read more

Went to Port Townsend for a mini vacation and decided to go out to town for dinner. We bumped into this cute restaurant unfortunately we didn't make a reservation and they were packed! Locals told us they are pretty good and I agreed. However, I got the chicken Alfredo and found that it was too buttery for me. Apple salad was delicious and my husband got the chicken burger and fish tacos and loved it. Reason for three stars is due to the long wait for host/hostess. For a busy night, they should have 2 host/hostess. read more

We dined here for the first time last year and couldn't wait to get back. My former favorite restaurant quit serving the one dish I visited them for (she crab soup) and my husband likes their cioppino as well if not better than the original place. I had the chicken alfredo and it was quite good. I have to admit I like my alfredo sauce a little thicker and creamier but theirs had good flavor. I'm also a big fan of home made noodles so that was a slight drawback. Over all, I enjoyed my meal, especially the toast they serve with the dishes, and would absolutely order the dish again. My husbands cioppino was spot on - to the extent that he ordered additional toast to sop up any/all remaining broth in his bowl. We took desserts to go and they did not disappoint. The carrot cake was moist and delicious. Just wish it had incorporated bits of walnut. The peach pie was great. Of course, since we had already stuffed ourselves and took the pie with us, they couldn't warm or add ice cream, which would have made it even better than it was when we ate it later. They were even able to take us right away when we arrived almost an hour earlier than our reservation. The wait staff was pleasant and attentive. Lovely decor and ambience. I would definitely recommend this place and will be coming back when we make our annual trip to the area next year. read more

I wish I had pictures because the food was just beautiful prepared but everything was eaten way too fast to snap a pic. We waited for 45 minutes on friday evening to get a table (they were SO busy and now I know to reserve in advance) but it was more than worth the wait. We were passing through and read reviews indicating this was the place to be so we decided to stop because the menu more than checked everyone's boxes for interest. We ordered the grand marnier prawns and mussels and clams for appetizers, grilled salmon and the scallop dinners along with 2 kids meals. I will say one of the kids meals (can't remember the name of it) was incredibly over priced for what is was- it was like 6 slices of cucumber and a handful of carrots to dip in ranch with a few slices of apples. But everything else was so incredible and my son wasn't very hungry to begin with, so it wasn't really worth bringing up in the moment. The service was awesome too. Our waiter was very kind, attentive and went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed. I would HIGHLY recommend this restaurant if you are in the area. We saw the Silverwater as we were walking downtown and decided to stop in for lunch. It has a warm inviting atmosphere and the staff was very polite, pleasant and prompt. My girlfriend had the lentil burger with avocado and fries, I had the lobster and cheese risotto. The food was hot and looked great, unfortunately, it was pretty bland. It wasn't bad at all, there just wasn't much flavor. The risotto had way to much cheese and, for lack of a better word, no zing, bland is the only way to describe it. This restaurant has the best clam chowder in town! Seriously, we've tasted almost all of them. The hours are a little weird, so make sure you check before you go...like 11-3 & then 5-11. From 5-6 pm daily, you can get a 3 course meal for about $20; and then go see a movie in the Starlight Room upstairs. (NOT during the holidays.) This is worth the little bit of trouble for good food and a great atmosphere! The food is a little pricey, but you don't come away hungry. We shared a bowl of chowder and the small plate crab cakes (2). Then we each ordered the Cilantro Lime Prawns. It comes with white & wild rice pilaf, a mix of sliced red bell peppers, WONDERFUL local delicada squash, and broccolini all on a bed of shredded spinach. It was delicious....however, it could've been seasoned better...had to add some salt, pretty bland, but yummy. I would get it again. When you order iced tea, it is actually passion fruit and black tea. It was so good! Very refreshing. This is our new favorite place in Port Townsend since the Public House closed. read more

Our server was very attentive and friendly, and even noticed that my dad had left his credit card in the glass the check came in. Our first time dining at silver water cafe. We ordered crab cakes and lentil burger. Our server offered bringing our burger on two plates with salad. We said sure. Food was good. But when the check came we were surprised with two charges - one for dinner split (we never asked for it) and second for substitution of green salad (we never asked for any subs). It would have been great if the server could be transparent about extra charges so customers aren't surprised upon getting the check. We didn't have any time to counter as we were aiming to catch a ferry and it took them a while to bring us our check in the first place. Don't go here. Rude hostess/waitress. Came in she acted like I wasn't suppose to be there. I get it I was in sweats and a sweatshirt buuut I definitely wasn't in some rags. It was a nice sweat outfit. We were taking our kids out for the day after being in the house because of the snow. The boys didn't eat their pizzas. Which if you know my boys you know they eat almost all pizza. Q had the crab burger. It was ok. Girls had a burger and French dip. The French dip was good. Silverwater is a solid lunch or dinner spot in Port Townsend. The location is great for people watching if you have a window seat. The atmosphere is cozy and low-key with a nice feel. It's right next to the Rose Theater so it would be a good place to go before or after a movie. My friend and I had lunch here this weekend. Service was great. Lots of good choices on the menu which made deciding what to order a bit of a task. I settled on the salmon salad with fresh mozzarella, shaved parmesan, and cherry tomatoes. My friend got the au jus sandwich. There are several wines available by the glass which we greatly appreciated. Probably 8-10 choices for either red or white ranging from $7-10/glass it seemed with the house wine being $5/glass. House wine was Sutter Home which isn't a great option in my opinion. I settled for a Sangiovese by the recommendation of our server and enjoyed it very much with my salmon salad. My friend said his sandwich was okay but not great. My salad was excellent. I would definitely return when in Port Townsend. We enjoyed our time here at Silverwater. read more

Not great - Terrible service After a day with the family at the Olympic Game Farm (which was so much fun and a little funny), we stopped on our way home to Port Townsend around 4pm. The town is very cute, but since we had never been there before we relied on YELP to guide us for dinner. Since we had our 10 & 7 yr olds with us, we had to go with something middle-of-the-road... we should have gone with McDonalds! We arrived at Silverwater at 5:30 (35 mins after it had opened for dinner) and the host made it sound like he was moving heaven & earth to "fit" us in. There were other customers, but they were NOT full. We had been seated for a full 15 minutes before talking to anyone - the busgirl who brought us water. I asked her if we still had time to order the 'special' 3 course meal they offer "7 DAYS A WEEK 5-6pm". She said "yeah, you have 15 minutes..." When our waitress finally made it over to our table another 5 minutes later, both my husband and I told her we would like the 'special' if we still had time - she LAUGHED and said that it's not offered on HOLIDAY WEEKENDS (uh, OK, this was the Friday after Thanksgiving, but they should not offer it as such a great deal if they REALLY only want the LOCAL PT folks to order it!!) From there, my husband got the fish & chips (tartar sauce was good) and a beer, my kids got pasta and Shirley Temples, I had the risotto (garlicky & yummy) and an ice tea. After we received our food we never saw anyone again until we had to ask for the check after sitting there with empty plates and glasses for 20 minutes. Here's the thing - I waited tables all through college and then some so I tend to be harder (but more generous) on the service. My PET PEEVE is sitting at a table with empty glasses - should NEVER happen! 3 of our drinks we re-fillable - WHAAATTT! I had to laugh, though, when she finally brought our check she asked if we wanted to take anything to go.... um, like the 2 ice cubes at the bottom of my glass?? or the 3 noodles left on my son's plate?? I truly love this restaurant! It is an absolutely excellent place to gather. I may seem biased, since I have worked here, but this has only allowed my affection for this place to grow. My family dined at the Silverwater for many years, and I always had a great time when I got to go. The food is delicious! We all have our favorites from the menu, but I can definitely say there are many dishes here that are total crowd pleasers. My favorite appetizer is the crab cake dish, they are truly amazing! They are sort of "asian infused", topped with a bit of ginger and a delish buttery lemon sauce. It is a rare occasion to see even one flake of crab left on the plate at anyone's table. I also love the super yummy steamed clams. The broth is so good, you may have to get extra bread to soak it up. I also must say that the best fish and chips I have ever eaten are here. I love seafood, but I also eat vegetarian a lot, and there are options for that as well, or if you're gluten free...the kitchen is always willing to accommodate people with sensitivities. read more

We found ourselves at the Silverwater Cafe after a very long travel day from Florida to Port Townsend. Very tired and quite hungry. Places were packed, so when we walked in the the Silverwater and it was a large 2 story space, we were hopeful. The host (who I expect was the owner) told us there were no open tables as all were reserved. I asked about eating at the bar, but it was full too. I must have looked very sad and tired as I asked him was there some place he could squeeze us in and we'd promise to eat really quickly. He rechecked his book and the tables and decided we were in! Very nice of him. We both had cocktails that were stellar. Mine was tall and involved homeade limeade and vodka. Feeling even more mellow then. Fresh bread too. We overordered - husband had soup, and I had the Washington apple salad which is a meal in itself - very fresh with candied nuts. We should have stopped there, but we had ordered the Halibut on special that day. OMG - it was so moist and buttery, we ate the entire entree. Thank goodness we only ordered one entree! We sat upstairs and our table was in a cell coverage dead zone, but we got over that and decided we were on vacation. Service was friendly, but a bit slow. We were so tired that we were not bothered by that. PT has many fine places to eat, but Silverwater Cafe is worth a visit. Prices very fair and quality of food is top notch. read more

It's tough to find satisfactory service in Port Townsend. On three separate occasions recently, we have had to bail out from other restaurants that basically ignored us...and on each occasion, we went to Silverwater, where we were seated promptly and given great service, no matter how busy they were. We have tried many menu items over the years, and I've never had a bad meal here. We enjoy the molten chocolate cake with ice cream for dessert, though we occasionally branch off and have a slice of pie. A friend and I came to explore Port Townsend a few weeks ago and popped into Silverwater for lunch based on the reviews here. There were only a few other diners while we were there (middle of winter, on a Sunday at noon). Street parking was easy to get in the angled spots right in front of the restaurant, although it was significantly more crowded when we left (a showing of New Moon in the theatre next door was starting up). My friend ordered the crab & shrimp melt and I had the portabello burger. May I recommend not trying to eat your portabello burger with your hands, like I did. Between the juice from the mushroom and the balsamic glaze they add, I think it's impossible to eat this thing without the use of a knife and fork (unless you happen to carry a Costco sized box of napkins with you). One other interesting thing I noticed is they serve their tea loose leaf, in little french presses (I'd never seen that done anywhere else). This is a tough one to review. The food was 3-5 stars. Atmosphere 4-5 stars. Service, when they had the food, was 4-5 stars. But we had to wait about an hour for our food. We also saw others served before us. It was also weird that several tables of food came out all at once. They did apologize and we were offered some really good crap cakes. They also offered free desserts. I asked if they are always this busy and one of the servers said yes. The other uncomfortable thing was a couple at the table next to ours. They were complaining about all of the out-of-towners here (that is what we were). Then I heard them taking about how Port Townsend is being surrounded by horrible conservatives in Port Ludlow and Sequim. Guess what we were. BTW they were the couple who came in 20 min. after us and got served before us. So..... if you are willing to wait a while.... Its a 4-5 star restaurant. But you will have to have a tough skin if the locals start bad mouthing you. read more

This was our first time at Silverwater Cafe but it will definitely not be our last! We had the most delicious dinner - mine was Penn Cove mussels in a coconut curry broth and my husband had the linguine with clams. Every bite was delicious, as were our cocktails and the really moist and flavorful carrot cake we shared. Our server, Lauren, was wonderful and made the evening that much more enjoyable. We were excited to try this restaurant in the beautiful town of Port Townsend. I was undecided between cioppino and fish and chips. The waitress said the fish and chips had ruined her for fish and chips from anywhere else. She further recommended that I get the salmon fish and chips. I had never heard of salmon as fish and chips. They were perfectly cooked, and the BEST fish and chips I've ever had. Who knew!!! My husband had the coho salmon with blurred blanc sauce and he was very impressed with the fresh flavor and it was perfectly cooked as well. I had the blackberry pie, and my husband had a Victorian coffee for dessert. He gave me a taste of the coffee and almost didn't get it back!! We have dined here a few times before and liked it (I've had salad as well as the salmon). This time we went for a special occasion with others. The food was not good like I remembered from even a month ago. The avocado and arugula salad had NO avocado in it. It was odd: I looked over at my husband, who ordered the same thing, and he was using his fork to peer under the lettuce to see where it was. None of our salads had it. Then, I ordered the fish and chips, and the two pieces were so incredibly small that some bites were all fried batter - not good. Finally, I had fries with my fish and one of our party ordered an extra fries: they were cool and limp, and not flavored with the special seasoning that the cafe touts. I noticed she didn't eat hers either. All in all, this was a disappointing experience. I called the cafe a few moments ago (I like to do that instead of leaving a bad review) but was told that there was no manager present. I was told that there would be no management present all weekend, and to try on Monday. No supervisor at all available for the busiest time for a restaurant? Makes no sense. I can't say that I'll be coming back here, I was pretty disappointed. I kept thinking "what would Gordon Ramsay think??" There were definitely problems in the front of house as well as the back of house. The host was sloppy, very underdressed and pretty indifferent. We got a seat up on the mezzanine and after a little wait was greeted by our waitress. She was also pretty casually dressed, wearing jeans and a tight sweatshirt. We noticed a total of 4 people working on the restaurant floor and they all were wearing something different in varying degrees of casual. I was under the impression that this was an upscale restaurant but the mismatched staff, video poker/big TV in the bar and cheap christmas lights strung around said otherwise. We ordered some drinks, an appetizer and main dishes. Our appetizer, artichoke pate was pretty garlicky/tasty but seemed like it came with some warmed pre-packaged pita bread. For our main dishes, my companion ordered the fish and chips ($16) which came with french fries and what seemed to be a house made cole slaw. He said it was pretty tasty. I ordered the stuffed chicken breast with risotto and steamed vegetables (which were really green beans) ($21). The risotto was undercooked and the stuffed chicken was over cooked--burnt in some places and the meat was tough. For the price they were asking I was very disappointed at what the chef deemed acceptable to send out to a table. He should be embarrassed because the dish I ordered sounded like it would be really good. As soon as the restaurant became busier our waitress forgot about bringing us the second drink we requested. At one point she came by and acknowledged that she forgot and apologized, but still did not get our drinks. We watched her pop around to table to table, obviously overwhelmed and at one point heard her tell another floor person that she was totally behind. The restaurant wasn't full at this point so I don't know what they would have done if they were operating at capacity. While we were waiting, we watched the scene downstairs from the mezzanine of the first floor seating area. We watched the host inconsistently and slowly set tables while a senior couple waited for at least 15 minutes to be seated. We felt totally bad for them. By now we've been long done and have been sitting in our seats for an hour and a half. We were tired and just wanted to pay and leave. read more
