This is a very polite and unprepossessing corner cafe in downtown Port Townsend. It's a block off Water Street, which means it probably gets noticed 50% less than the places a few yards closer to the water. This is a great place to get a meal, though. You walk in through a hallway and then another set of doors into the dining room. These 19th-century buildings (they're everywhere in PT) are kinda chopped up into sub-spaces, but it adds to the charm. You might think at first blush that the most impressive thing about this place will be the house plants. They're gigantic in many cases; the NFL left tackles of the houseplant world. Most of them grow from hanging baskets or high-mounted small pots. Some of the trailing vines are lush enough that they've woven strings of white Christmas lights into them. It's a very nice effect, but you also might not even notice until a few minutes after you've sat. You can sit upstairs in a little loft balcony, downstairs by the windows, or downstairs back from the windows (where, presumably, it's a bit warmer). The tables are light and fairly small, with light chairs, carefully folded napkins, and pressed tablecloths. It's a completely unfussy but very serious and sincere presentation of the dining room. You immediately feel welcome and assured of a good experience, without any sense of ostentation. The staff is very pleasant, ranging from the apple-cheeked young small town ladies who live nearby up to some restaurant veterans waiting tables and manning the host station. The host came across as wishing he were somewhere else, but on a cold, damp day in early March he might just not have been feeling it that night. A couple of us sat early for drinks while others were still raiding all the little shops on Water Street. They offer house cocktails, which pleased my man D. He put away something that looked like a sweeter version of an Irish Coffee. I had one of the single malt scotches. Just a few pleasing choices on the scotch list, but a few pleasing choices on a scotch list ought to be enough to make a man happy up here in the salty breezes. The beer list is solid but totally meaningless, while the wine list has quite a few choices to make foodies happy, especially among the red bottles. The specials were genuinely appealing, and they take the time both to post them on the chalkboard and print them out on light cardstock. No rambling recitals from the servers. The menu is mainly seafood, with a few land animals and interesting salads and apps. There's dessert as well, but we ran out of room well before we reached that point. They offer prix fixe multi-course meals in combination with the cinema next door, which shows interesting movies a little bit outside the blockbuster superhero mainstream. We had the seafood fritters (an amazing special), fried oysters (which made me like cooked oysters for two minutes of my life), chili-rubbed pork flat iron (perfectly executed special), wil prawn risotto (another dazzling effort from the special board), seared ahi (as good as any steak without a doubt) and athenian pasta (a nice black olive rotini salad, served warm). Those things, plus two interesting and very different starter salads, a bottle of wine, and the two before-dinner cocktails, together were about $203. Very reasonable for such a sumptuous spread. The staff here are really nice, and they filled the place most of the time we were there, even on a quiet, drab March evening. They never missed a beat, and it's easy to see why they have a following among locals--locals would have to be the ones carrying them this time of year. We walked in hoping for a good experience, then right away feeling assured we'd have one, and ended up having a really great experience. Definitely be back. read more

A Crab and shrimp melt, yumbo! and we both loved the soup. the service was very good but she was slammed and the end of our meal, no problem for us but the server was apologetic anyway. This place was amazing. Very busy-so def make reservations! Even if same day! Everything looked so good we had a hard time deciding what to order. Everything we had was super scrumptious. Our waitress was awesome and helpful. It was the perfect end to a day after whale watching. Ate lunch here today based on the positive yelp reviews, great pictures, and decent sounding menu. I should have followed my gut instinct when we walked in to walk out, but we were on a time crunch and hungry. When we walked in the hostess did my pet peeve which is saying "JUST two?" And she did it to every couple that walked in. Yes, there are "just" two of us- like most of the parties that walk in here, thank you. The decor is very outdated. I will say that the service was adequate and boasted hosts, bussers, and servers- which is nice to see a restaurant providing employment and not trying to skim by with staff. I ordered an iced tea, and the server failed to let me know it is flavored. It honestly tasted like tea mixed with cherry Tylenol. I know some people like flavored tea, but I do not so please let your customers know if your iced tea is anything other than plain old iced tea. We ordered a cup of chowder to share, I ordered the crab cakes and my husband ordered the crab "burger". The chowder was decent, not too thick which I appreciate. However when the entrees arrived I immediately regretted my decision. The "crab cake" had little to no crab in it and certainly no chunks of Dungeness. All filler. It also didn't not have any texture to it and was not cooked properly. My husbands "burger" was similar in texture (probably the exact same) and fell apart while he was eating it which made it a soggy mess. I will say that aioli on each dish was delicious and probably the saving grace. Overall, super disappointed that we didn't end up at one of the 20 other restaurants near by. This place probably deserves 2 stars, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt after only one experience. read more

We stopped in this place from a hotel staff recommendation and a look at the posted menu. The place was not overly business for a Thursday night. We ordered the clam chowder which was grainy with sand and was just average in taste. The service was unorganized we were service items wrong, slowly, and out of order. I thought the Ahi lavender was going to be unique and different.The crab cakes were more breadcrumbs then lumps of crabs and overly salted. We made the trip over to Port Townsend specifically for this restaurant, so we were willing to wait the 30 minutes for a table when we got there. The interior is cute but very packed in with tables, leaving little room to maneuver. After an extensive examination of the menu, we settled on fish and chips, crab cakes, the french dip and the reuben. Fish and Chips is the backbone of this place; they started as a fish and chips stand. The fish was cooked well and coated in a nice lemon dill batter. The batter was crispy, save for the part sitting on the fries which suffered from soggy bottom sadness. The fries were very average and not overly crispy. They provided coleslaw that was tossed in a light vinaigrette, therefore very fresh and crisp. The crab cakes were a decent size but were under seasoned. The texture of the crab was lovely but the taste was totally wiped out by the bell peppers in it. The breading on the outside was pretty thick as well. My grandfather LOVED their reuben. I was not able to try it but it looked nice. The french dip was a little unique in that it sported a nice chunk of brie over the roast beef. The sharp flavor from the brie was not the best complement to the dry beef. The au jus lacked flavor and salt, but the roll was good. It took a long time for our drinks to come, and when my Coke did show up it tasted like soda water. I asked if I could replace it with a Sprite, and mentioned that their syrup might be a bit off. She seemed off put by my request but brought me a new soda anyway; the Sprite also was sour and off tasting. That was a waste of $3. The Mac and Jacks beer was good. I would recommend one of the other many good restaurants in Port Townsend over Silverwater Cafe. read more

Our server was awesome and made great recommendations + made sure we made our movie next door. The food was extremely tasty. I had dinner there last night with my grandson. We had done a lot of biking and I was thirsty. I asked out server for a mai tai and said please rush. She did and it was excellent. They have a wine list worthy of Wine Spectator. I ordered a caesar salad and the shrimp with a grand mariner aioli. My grandson ordered the snapper picatta. Both dishes were exceptional. The shrimp dish had just a hint of orange. Dessert was a peach crumb pie. Our server, Sylvia was wonderful. She did all the right things. Actually a 3.5. Busy and apparently popular place for both lunch and dinner, the restaurant has two levels. Tables are a little bit packed on both levels, too close one to the next. Nice setup anyway, including the decor and the abundant plants. Into the food, the menu offers several options and many of them sounds quite inviting. A little on the pricey side (not very expensive, just pricey) portions are correct. Seems to be one of the best options in town, so we might repeat next time we come for visit. Food is still great, as is the wait staff, but I have noticed over the years that the owner almost goes out of their way to hire very unpleasant hostesses. My wife and I were in recently, mid-week, early evening. Not a soul in the place. The hostess asked if we had reservations. I thought she was joking - the place was empty. She said all of the tables were reserved. Undaunted, I asked that she look again, and she found a table. An hour later when we were leaving, the place was still mostly empty. But the hostess was still snotty as hell. I don't get it. Like I said, the food and the wait staff are great. They need a hostess that is gracious and welcoming. This is a very nice restaurant, for a nice night out. The food was very good, they have a peppercorn steak that was what I was craving and it did not disappoint me. The halibut my wife had was a hazlenut creme halibut that was much better than I thoiught it would be ( I am not a hazlenut fan). The wine list was good and we enjoyed a bottle of Pinot. Dined here as a family almost exactly two years earlier. I was in the area with my teenage daughter and two of her friends, so had opportunity to enjoy the Silverwater again. Despite the extensive street construction outside the door, when we arrrived at 7pm there were already plenty of diners. Great service, nice atmosphere, and good food. I had the lamb shank dinner. The meat practically fell off the bone--very tender. Though I would have preferred more spice in the sauce, it was nonetheless very good with the red wine of the day. I like coconut, and the coconut flan tasted fantastic with a creamy texture. Outstanding coffee. The girls enjoyed their dinner as well--my daughter raved about the salmon fillet. read more

My husband and I visited from Southern California a few years ago and wait to come back here. The food is phenomenal, the ambiance is so beautiful, and the service was fantastic. We ended up purchasing several of their spices then and just recently ordered more of their Lavender Pepper to give as gifts to family and friends because it is SO GOOD. We enjoyed it on our food and it made us forever loyal to this establishment. We cannot wait to return once it is safe to do so. We made great memories here and plan to make more. read more

Got takeout lunch today, as we wanted some lunch but didn't want to dine inside and the patio was too full. My husband got the fish and chips which he enjoyed. I got the grinder sandwich on Gluten Free bun. We both enjoyed our meals - they hit the spot. It's hard to judge a restaurant based on this strange COVID take out situations but this definitely met our needs. Nothing too special but just fine. The only reason I'm giving the Silverwater 3 stars instead of 2 is because the people working there are so nice. The past couple of times the food was bad not mediocre but burnt, oily and they can't create a decent lemon twist for a martini. I had the snapper, it was very oily and tasteless. It sat on a bed of burnt asparagus. Think this was why the dish tasted bitter. Dining partner ordered a martini with a twist but got a pithy piece of bitter lemon peal. He had the pepper steak-huge serving but not particularly flavorful. I think the menu is has far too much variety so nothing is done especially well. read more

A great experience. Every thing about this place is exceptional. I had fish and chips. The batter was was really lite and fluffy and crispy. The fish was moist and melted in my mouth. Went to the Silverwater Café based on Yelp reviews and I can verify the food is top notch. I had the Peppercorn New York Steak. It was cooked perfectly to my liking and the mushroom peppercorn sauce was amazing. Dessert consisted of the Rhubarb pie. Now my wife makes a strawberry-rhubarb pie that is second to none, this was on par with that pie, just different. I do have to say that the crust was phenomenal--Light, flaky.. an the rhubarb was just the right amount of tart. We are going back to Port Townsend in a few months, the Silverwater is a must do again. read more

I thought the food in Charleston was good. The PNW is probably better. Last night we went to Silverwater. I checked it on Yelp and decided it was where we needed to go for good seafood. Well, my wife had crab cakes and salads, and I had clam chowder and fish and chips. Miss' food was first class. The chowder was very good, and the fish (cod) in batter and the chips was the best I have had this side of Australia. The service was efficient and friendly (thanks Barbera), the restaurant is very nice, comfortable and quiet. They serve very nice bread, a good cold non-alcoholic beer, a good variety of wines and the cost is not going to break the bank. The bread was wonderful, and the desert-toasted coconut with fresh whipped cream over chocolate mousse - was absolutely bloody fabulous. This place was so good we are going again tonight...and that, for me, is a rarity. Port Townsend is a wonderful community and during this visit, we are being marvelously entertained by the folks attending the Steampunk festival. It's nuts! If you get the chance go to Silverwater. Kid friendly?!? Really?!?! We came in for a Sunday lunch with a 3 year old and 1 year old. They start off by giving both kids a water in a glass. We asked for kids cups and they came back with paper cups - still no lid. So we order champagne, food, and we ask for lids. No lids. Server comes to check on us and again, ask for lids. We get one lid. One. Sure enough little man spills his drink all over himself before we can get the second requested lid. At that point, we're ready to leave, get little man dried off, and find a FAMILY FRIENDLY restaurant. The hostess graciously understands and brings us the check for the champagne... that was never brought out to us. THANKS! Not sure about the food here (or the champagne for that matter, but if you have kids, save yourself the trouble and head up the road to Docs Marina.
