I pass by this place almost everyday after coming back from my Pilates class and/or Del Mar dog beach. It is in a random place wedged between a liquor shop and framing store. But wow, the food is good. Spicy chili fish: a bit sweet with that spice because of the caramelization process that happens when cooking the delicate white fish. Papaya salad: the thread of papaya are delicate, yet crunchy. The sauce the threads are tossed in are tangy. I liked the addition of peanuts and green beans to add some crunch among the papaya shreds. Tom Yum: the broth is so soothing, especially during these past several weeks of cold. My favorite is the soft shell crab in chili roasted curry sauce. There is egg cooked within the broth (think egg drop soup consistency). Slightly sweet, but not spicy at all. For takeaway, they served the soft-shell crab (two crabs) separately so that when I brought it home we could still enjoy the crunchiness of the soft-shell crab. I was meeting up with a friend for lunch and we chose this spot since it was about half way between the two of us and had pretty good Yelp reviews. Neither of us had been before, so it was fun to try someplace new. Now I pretty much always order yellow curry anytime I go to a Thai restaurant, and although I contemplated branching out, I decided on ordering my tried and true dish- yellow curry. The lunch special was $10.95 and came with yellow curry, white rice, some egg rolls, and salad. The amount of food for the price was good. I've definitely had bigger lunch specials for the same price at other Thai restaurants, but honestly, this was more than enough food. The presentation was pretty good as well. I liked the way the rice was upside down in kinda of a shape. Ok, on to taste. The food was pretty good! The curry was spiced as medium and was pretty spot on. It had nice flavor and good consistency. The chicken and carrots were both cooked well. The potato ( yes, I said potato, I only got one) was a little under cooked. The salad was good. The lettuce was fresh and not too much dressing. The service was good. The server didn't mind my friend and I catching up and being a little slow on ordering. She also didn't mind letting us stay and chat a while after we were finished eating. This could be because the place was pretty empty at the time ( only one other table) or it could be because she was being nice. Either way, I appreciated not being pressured to get moving. I have mixed feelings about this place. The outside is nice, the inside is a little rundown. The food is good, but nothing extraordinary.

We tried this restaurant before a concert at The Sound. We had the salmon green curry and the pad see ew with chicken. The curry was relatively mild since we went with the default medium spicy. It was chock full of veggies and the salmon was cooked very well. It was delicious. The pad see ew seemed freshly done as opposed to some places with wads of noodles. It was full of Chinese broccoli and was very tasty. The service was attentive. We would return here again, but next time order with a bit more spice. read more

4.5 stars. This restaurants serves a more "high end", very fine delicate Thai food and well presented dishes (unlike most Thai restaurants located in the in the vicinity of Solana Beach...). I only went there for lunch and always appreciate their lunch specials. I absolutely want to go back for dinner and try more sophisticated dish (such as a pan fried white spicy fish that looks so fresh and amazing). The lunch specials are unbeatable in terms of price/variety and portions. For less than $9, you can enjoy a vegetarian set lunch that comprises either fried rice/noodle or a dish in sauce, such as Prik Khing, Thai basil, eggplant, cashews, curries...etc. The main difference with other Thai restaurant is that I feel the food is way finer, less saucy, more light but still extremely tasteful. Veggies are very very Fresh. Plus... the tofu is offered fried or plain! Each lunch set comes with 2 fried egg-rolls, 1 cup of soup (a big plus for the lemon grass/tom-yam style soup) and a side salad. Service can be a bit slow during lunch time (the place is clearly under-staffed) but I highly recommend this place. read more

Their dishes are excellent in the way Thai food should be: always complex, firing off every type of taste bud you have, plus as spicy as you like. They have a nice, albeit somewhat small, dining room Unlike Bangkok Bay, Similan delivers via the usual apps. Wow! One of the Best green curry I've tried! I normally am very disappointed when I get green curry because you never get enough of anything- meat, veggies and flavors. We ordered this to go for our monthly work lunch. I got the green curry level 7 spice. It was really good. Big chunks of chicken and I love the big chunks of bamboo shoots. Amazing flavors. I think you have to get some spice because my coworkers got other entrees without any spice and they said it was decent. First, I have to say, I eat a lot of Thai- so with my experience, I can say the curry doesn't taste like Thai curry at all- I ordered the yellow curry; the potatoes were not cooked all the way, the chicken had no flavor and the sauce was so boring- no kick at all, not even a hit of spice. There is no way that the curry was a medium- more like a zero on heat and spice The larb was good but no spice either. Holy smokes this place is AMAZING!!! I happened to be scheduled to work in Solana Beach today and I figured it'd be a perfect opportunity to try a food joint up there. I had my mind set on Thai food and saw that this place was pretty high up in the ranks. The restaurant isn't super difficult to find, however, I'm not really familiar with the area so I did miss it at first and then looked back around. It has a small little lot for parking. I went in and was greeted by a very kind hostess who took my order. I got the Pad See Ew with Chicken. It came out to around $10 and before I knew it the food was done! It was lightning fast!! I took it home with me and it stayed super hot all the way home. I noticed that it came with a small side salad and some crunchy wonton type things. The food was so good!!!! It was still hot and the portion size was great. The pad see ew was perfectly seasoned and the noodles were cooked very well. If I'm ever in the area again, I'm definitely going to come back here! The flavors are great, portions plentiful for the price being that this is a nicer restaurant in a nice town. Staff are super kind and the ambience is nice.
