We've eaten breakfast at Simmer Down for quite some time and they have been GREAT and economical. They closed for a few days to remodel and just reopened. They removed the old tables and booths. No more booths, too bad! The also changed their menu, also NOT GOOD. The prices are also higher. We use to eat there at least once a week or more. NO MORE, we'll have to find a new breakfast stop. Went there to try a new breakfast place and it as sat down and our waitress was Jennifer. She was polite, professional and knowledgeable of everything that we asked. I also like this place because it serves breakfast all day. The Service Desk as impeccable and the food was extremely delicious. It all came out hot including the toast and biscuits. There was a variety of jelly and butter available along with hot sauce on request. The orange juice is beyond great as it's made fresh and the coffee is delicious with cream various creams available at the table. The environment was totally awesome and even though this might sound mean but there were no screaming kids and mostly older people my age and older and it was extremely welcoming! I've since been back three other times when I have an appointment in Georgetown and we've always asked for Jennifer. It is my new place to go have excellent breakfast or lunch as my daughter ordered. Did I mention the environment was so very peaceful and everyone that included the other customers were extremely friendly. Nice quite place that is not too busy. Buffet style on the weekends in the morning and price is solid. That being said we sat there for over 10 minutes without our server coming up to us at all. We got up got food and had still yet to see a server come. We had to request for our server to get drinks and so 20 minutes later we have drinks. My coffee cup had lipstick on it so I asked for a to go cup of coffee because it's clear she did not even look to see if the cup she was given me was dirty. We were there over an hour and saw our server twice. Nichole needs to be more attentive with her guest because her other tables were having to get other servers to help find her so they could cash out. Food is okay and smart move on the buffet. So it took 15 minutes to get seated, not busy but short staffed. Our waiter Corbin was nice. We ordered breakfast. Usually it's pretty decent but tonight was so gross. I ordered a veggie omelette w wheat toast. The bread was stale the ketchup served with the meal in a small cup was clearly spoiled, lumpy and disgusting! The omelette was ok. My Wife and I are Baby-boomers. We often are amazed at the various food choices here in the "Austin Area" But today we were craving "Good old American comfort food", just like the good stuff the "Greatest Generation" cooked. We found it at our most recent discovery, The Simmer Down Cafe. I enjoyed the delicious texture and taste of the gravy and onion covered hamburger steak with accompanying mashed potatoes. Wifey raved about her Chicken Fried Steak and we drank beverages out of Mason Jars. The atmosphere is pure Texas Country and when I told our waitress "This is better than Momma used to make", she looked at my Wife, back to me, and said "Y'all need to be careful or you may have to walk home!" Food is not very good at all, service is okay, ambiance - old and tired. This place needs a major overhaul of it wants to stay open.

CFS was good meat (no gristle) that was hand battered and served with a normal white gravy.... simple and delicious!!! 10/10! The only other food we've tried there are the burgers and they are easily on par. We always do carry-out so I can't speak too much else there but the staff seem nice and welcoming. The past couple of visits have been very disappointing. The visit before today was ok, I had the chicken fried steak with egg and biscuit. The biscuit was overcooked. First let me start by saying this place needs new employees, everyone needs to be replaced. There is not one happy even a slight smile from any of the wait staff. They're either exhausted tired or don't want to be there and it shows in the way they take care of the customers. We accidentally spilled a little coffee on the table and our waitress gave us paper towels to clean it up. She could've gotten a wet towel and wiped our table. I mentioned to my husband, with the waitress was standing at our table that we shouldn't have to clean our table. Her reply "well you spilled the coffee ". Since or table was near the kitchen, we could see in the kitchen, we saw a male server take a piece of hash brown that was hanging off the side of a plate, with his hand, eat it, then took the same plate of food to his customer. We have been coming to simmer down on and off since they started. We always like to support local businesses, we have been rooting for them since the beginning as we like to have these options in our community. They just can't seem to get their act together. The food is decent. But the service is hit or miss. We know times are tough right now and we try to patient. Unfortunately today was the last nail in the coffin. We were served grits with a gnarly black hair. It was absolutely disgusting. We also asked for condiments and were completely blown off. We can overlook some shortcomings but the way they handle the hair in the food situation. Was unacceptable. Another customer blocked our car from leaving our parking spot in front, by parking too close-- "to teach us a lesson"! The Manager, Tony, backed him up-- & told us to vacate, when I was asking this rude customer to please move his big black truck, so we could leave! We will never return!! We went there for lunch recently and were very disappointed. I waited at the entrance to be greeted and seated in a mostly empty restaurant and after waiting 5-10 minutes with no one offering I walked into the restaurant and asked a waitstaff member where I could sit. He pointed at a table so that is where I sat waiting for my friend. She arrived and we waited another 20 minutes and no one had stopped by to wait on us even though I tried to ask an employee who was walking by me. I was ignored. Next waitstaff that passed I asked way more loudly if we could have service. She looked surprised and stopped and said she would wait on us. We placed an order and waited another 20 to 25 minutes until it came out. My friend's omelet was greasy and flat. I ordered the chicken fried chicken with green beans and a baked potato thinking there would be plenty to take home but not so. The baked potato was dry and hard and the beans were not good. Chicken was okay but mostly breading and dry tough chicken inside. I left most on the plate as there was no point in taking home inedible food. The waitstaff acted like they had no direction and would disappear for long amounts of time into the kitchen. We were sitting on the aisle by the window near the kitchen entrance so I noticed how long they were gone while I waited for service. Miserable and expensive lunch. read more

This restaurant was very dirty the banquet benches were absolutely filthy the table was sticky the three tiered condiment holder was Dusty and gross and as far as we could tell the lunch food was all pre-frozen although the pancakes were very good the place needs a good cleaning if they're going to continue to serve food. Well 3 of us were looking for a spot to eat after some house hunting. Looked at yelp for spots and found the Simmer Down cafe. First thing - if you're going to run a restaurant you probably should have adult supervision on site. It appears the staff was of adult age - yet I really shouldn't hear "F" bomb conversation from the kitchen. Don't get me wrong I drop that bomb on a regular basis - but not in a public setting Second thing - at times we folks looking for a meal are going to ask questions and the wait staff should be able to answer these questions. The question that was asked at our table was " what's in the chicken salad" the answer " chicken,mayo, cranberries and some other things, I'm not sure". Good to know it has chicken! Third thing- I get that sometimes food is dropped like our okra, but to bring the food out AFTER we've paid the bill - a bit too F@CKING ( added that in case the kitchen staff reads this) late. Fourth thing- you should probably tell a poor guy that two tablespoons of gravy on your mashed potatoes is $1.60. I've live in the south for most of my life - mashed potatoes and gravy go together like sugar and tea. But maybe it's just me? Finally the food - the food we ordered (and received) was fresh and pretty good. Simmer Down has made a couple of new changes. First, they cut down the bar to stool height, with added stools, and changed the top to match their "stained pallet" tables. Second, they added a Blue Bell ice cream freezer at the end of the bar nearest the entrance door. They have 7 ice cream flavors and a rainbow sherbet, Ice cream flavors, subject to change are, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Rocky Road, Cookies 'n Cream, Buttered Pecan, Dutch Chocolate, Homemade Vanilla and Birthday Cake. We have continued to try to support this local restaurant. Tonight will, most likely, be our last visit. When we arrived, there were two other tables time, d ,megive it to oand they tried tup then pivkeoccupied. We were seated and our drink order takes. By the time our drinks arrived, we were ready to order. The order was taken and all was well. One person in our party needed additional beverage, but our server was no where to be found. Another two tables were filled, Our waitress walked around the restaurant but would not come by or look at our table. Twenty minutes after our order had been taken we still had no food. It was starting to get busy but no food came out. The first order that was delivered was taken to a table that was recently filled. One of the items delivered to the table was not what was ordered so the wait staff removed that item. Next thing I know they are picking up the item that was sitting on this other table and putting in front of me. The second item that they tried to deliver also belonged to us, and was delivered COLD. The dining room is one large room with worn-out furnishngs. It reminded me of my childhood years, reminiscent of an elementary school cafeteria!
