As soon as we walked in we were immediately sat down at a table around 10:40 am. Our server came and took our drink order. The sweet tea wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. She told us that the person who made it used too much sugar, so she did half sweet/unsweet. Then she disappeared for about 20-25 minutes, which was alright I guess since they start serving lunch at 11. We ordered two chicken fried chicken plates. The food didn't arrive until around 11:35 am. I was a bit irritated but I understand that they were slammed, so I let it go. I ate the sides first and they were delicious, but as soon as I cut into my "chicken fried chicken" I found out it was steak. The server didn't come for some time. The other plate was correct but the chicken was hard to chew. It was as if it was frozen then quickly "defrosted". I asked the server if she can tell them to remake both of the plates and she left then came back after some time and told us that it's gonna take another 45 minutes for it to be ready. I declined and asked for them to just comp the steak plate, since that's not even what I ordered. She went back again then came back and said that they can take only 15% off of our tab. I don't understand why I should have to pay for something that I didn't order and didn't even eat much of!! 15% wasn't even enough. We decided to try out this restaurant as it is a local mom-and-pop shop and the Google ratings were decent. Unfortunately we were very disappointed. Mind you, this was 6 people eating together, so it was not a matter of simply bad luck with a couple of dishes. The best that can be said is that some of the dishes were average. The others were bland or just outright bad. For example, my wife's hamburger was so tough and rubbery that she couldn't eat it. My catfish was OK, but the dirty rice was quite flavorless. My son and his girlfriend ordered breakfast foods and they were swimming in grease. You would hope that also meant they were flavorful, but they really weren't. Indeed the hashbrowns were a bit burnt. As I saw, I like to try to support local restaurants, and maybe this is a case where the head chef was out sick. But overall the food was quite sub-par. We went to Simmer Down Friday evening for dinner. We were there the previous week and were pretty satisfied with all of the improvements. Friday evening was just as good - or maybe even better. The service has moved to the "GREAT" level. Hunter was our server and he did a great job. I believe that with Hunter and Corbin serving, we could not ask for more. The menu has slowly started to add some of our favorites back. I greatly appreciate it! While the service and food are where I believe they should be, I do have a "problem" with the way that we were charged. There was an UNADVERTISED 3% Credit Card Fee added to the bill. We had not experienced this before, were not "warned" of it by the servers or the menu or even a sign on the door. While I understand that credit card processing does cost - you either need to warn customers (I for one won't come again knowing that it will cost me more that the advertised prices), or add the 3% into the price of the items. Most people do not carry cash anymore. We use our debit or credit card and pay it off. None of the other restaurants we go to have this UPCHARGE. I suspect that they have included it in the price of the food. Please consider adding your UPCHARGE to the foos as I don't intend on carrying cash just to come to your establishment. read more

We had a lovely evening at the Simmer Down Café this evening. We overheard that it was their busiest night ever, but the servers checked in with us, and we were happy to see such a lively atmosphere in this family-owned establishment. Things have changed a bit for the Simmer Down Café (thanks, Gordon Ramsey) and they are adapting well and quickly. Please give them time to adjust. Everyone is trying their best. The atmosphere here is awesome. It feels just like it serves, comfort food in a comfortable environment. The staff were friendly but honestly the service could improve a little. It took a bit to get our food but our server wasn't very friendly. They weren't rude but just seemed uninterested in serving. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich and tomato soup. The tomato soup was amazing. I will admit that it was better than I was expecting. Creamy, tomatoey, with little bits of finely grated cheese mixed in. The chicken salad sandwich was disappointing however. Barely any lettuce, pain wheat bread, one tomato, the chicken salad itself was a bit runny and plain so it soaked the bottom piece of the bread. My suggestion to the chef would be to use a higher quality multi grain bread and maybe ask if you wanted the bread toasted or not. I just feel like this menu item could be so much better to, something to match the environment. Overall, I enjoyed the experience, and I'm sure their other food items are amazing. This place is a nice area. Sort of hidden and 100% relaxing. Service was good but not great. It is a laid back breakfast place so maybe that is their style. it was my first visit there. I had the French toast and bacon. Not a bad meal. Orange seemed like it was regular store bought OJ which is fine. Just a fan of the more natural stuff. Very affordable. Not for me... Obviously, based on the crowd, the place has appeal to some folks. To a lot of folks. But it just didn't make the cut for my family. To be fair, I did not realize that Sunday was buffet only service. If I had realized that I would have chosen a different spot. I don't hate buffets in general, but I don't love them for most breakfasts or brunches. A few places can pull them off because of unique and plentiful offerings. But that was not the case here. The breakfast side was normal breakfast offerings. The lunch side was typical lunch offerings. Nothing unique or different. So served in buffet style only meant they cooked in mass for the sake of... Enough about the style of service, on to the food. It was ok. Most things were edible. Nothing blew me away. Nothing made me think... "I must return!" Even the kiddo said "I've had better" and she is 8. And we agree. I am willing to try it again on an evening that doesn't involve buffets. Mostly because I believe in second chances and I am curious about some menu items. But it won't be anytime soon. If you happen to be close by, and are hungry, certainly... give it a try. Our Ladies Lunch group from Sun City had lunch here today. There were 14 of us. Our server was fabulous...got our orders out in good time, all right, followed up to be sure all was good. We had a variety of sandwiches, soup, salads...and all were very good. Today, a friend and I stopped in at Simmers Down to try the Sunday buffet around 10:15 am. I loved the new decor ...shabby chic All I can say the food was AWESOME especially for the price of $7.99! We were seated shortly after we entered the restaurant and our drinks ordered ...then we had many choices of food ... My choice of fried potatoes ,smokies,French toast, fresh fruit salad and omelette ordered as you leave the buffet line....everything delicious. Of course, I had to try the coconut cream pie from the assortment of desserts...awesome! Also, my friend enjoyed her food and loved the moist cookies! I have driven past here every day since moving to Georgetown three months ago and only recently noticed the sign up high, thr same basic colors as the building. I was looking for a place to eat halfway between two places and decided to pop in for breakfast. Not sure what it was like before but it felt a little 80s although I liked the chairs. For a Friday night this place was DEAD. There was one large party and a few couples. I had the chicken fried steak which was fine. My husband and French toast and it looked a bit weird and not fresh. The bacon was cheap and so was the sausage. The food was not hot for him. The hash browns had char and flakes of black debris. The staff was wearing street clothes. The decor was ok...but could be modernized but still try to keep the charm. This place could use some music playing and the TVs be on for the bar. Looking for a good brunch place, that feels like "home"? Come here! I looked up Sunday Brunch places here on Yelp, and was looking for a place that didn't just have like 5 options. This place brought me back to what I think of as "brunch", before COVID! Make sure to map this place, as you will miss it on Williams Drive. My husband and I had not been out this far on Williams, and missed it, with directions..LOL, and had to turn around. We got there right at 9am, as they opened for Sunday Brunch. We thought there would be a line, but nope, we got in, and was only like 3 other couples waiting. But, as we enjoyed our brunch, that changed, people came in, in droves! It is very small inside, and our table kind of backed into the line for the buffet. Make sure you know you table number before you go up, if you want an omelet. The nice gentleman makin the omelets is first station you hit, and he has 4 burners going. He will ask you, your table number as he marks it down with what omelet you want. Then, you take a plate and continue down the buffet line. All have the nice warmers under them, keeping everything hot! Make sure to get the sliced potatoes and onions! They have sausages, link and patties (did not see any bacon). They had small little chicken tender type thing, and thought it was gravy next to it, but oh no,,something better...something I have never seen at ANY buffet (lunch or breakfast type), it was Chicken and Dumplings! OMG..grab a bowl next to it, and GET IT! BIG pieces of chicken with nice size dumplings! I tried their "Mac and cheese", and it more mac, and not a lot of cheese. They had French toast pieces, and at the end, some cantelope and small salad. We found out, but seeing other people, besides drinks you order from the server, if you want, a pancake, biscuits and gravy, and/or toast, you order that from them as well, and they will bring it out to you . We had a GREAT server names Ciara! She also was the sat us down, and she was always checking on us to make sure we needed anything! Now, if you are looking for a looong buffet, this is not it. Dirty, poor service, mediocre food quality. Had to ask waitress to clean table when we were seated. Food order was delivered, one was plated incorrectly. This was during breakfast. One guest plate was not edible. Waitress gave 15% discount on the plate (not eaten) from the bill instead of courtesy removal. Do not recommend. read more
