I'd spent a week alarming the house every night and just hoping that someone wouldn't break in (or walk right in, as was the case here). Finally I found reviews for Simon on here. I called him up...he was really sweet. He came the next day and was so helpful, giving me tips on things I could do myself around the house with my locks and doors... I'm probably about ten years late with this review, but better late than never? I don't remember all of the details, but I'm pretty sure I locked my keys in the car and they were the only keys I had. I called roadside assistance, and they gave me a crazy quote (like $200 - $300). I wondered if I could break a window and have it fixed for cheaper than that (probably not!). It's such a relief, and I am so blessed, to know that when sh*t hits the fan I have people who will be there for me. There's my family, who has had to deal with more of my sh*t than they deserve. I've been going through a tough transition in my personal life and decided after a series of unfortunate events and drama last night that I needed a locksmith to come to my rescue and change my lock. It was 9:30 at night but that didn't stop Simon Tesh!! This wonderful man not only came to my aid within less than 15 minutes of me calling, but changed both the lock to my gate and my front door... in less than 20 minutes. He also helped me fix the numbers that were about to fall off my door, and made sure that I had two copies of each key. And the man is soooo sweet...he went to his car to bring out more tissue when I went through his pocket pack as I was a crying mess. Then he thanked me profusely for my business and told me that Yelp was the best thing that happened to his business. Last week I was locked out of my car because my smart ass boyf forgot to take the keys out when I told him to before he walked out of my car. It was cold and it was drizzling to top it all off -_- There was no cover around. After 30 minutes of trying and trying. He gave up. I don't blame him. I tried one last time and I got a hold of Mister Simon. He picked up and asked me for my location. Told me he'd be there in 10-15 minutes. Took him a little over that time but I figured it was maybe traffic. He came and within 2 minutes, my door was opened :D Yayyyyyy! DISCLAIMER: If you're heart is not warmed by this story, then there's something wrong with you. Let's just put it to you this way, I have a ton of work to do today, but had to stop and write a review for my newest Yelp pal, Simon. He just left my apartment a few minutes ago. So, I stupidly locked myself out. It was early, it was dark, and I didn't even think to grab my keys until after I locked and shut the door. Great. Even worse, the only person with the other set of keys (husband) was in Las Vegas, probably nursing a massive hangover, so, moving on... Long story short, I looked on Yelp to find the most reasonably priced locksmith... b/c I know how expensive it can get, and decided to call Simon. He said he could come over and open the door for $75. I told him I would see if I could get in any other way (b/c I left the window open, but you need a tall ladder, which I don't have)... but I negotiated w/ him to charge $60, which I thought was reasonable. He said he would be busy after 8:30am, and that I could probably reach him in the afternoon. Sounded scary to be locked out for that long, but luckily I walked to Starbucks and had my laptop to work, so reluctantly I tried to do my work. Simon called me about 45 minutes later, and when I picked up, he said he would come over and open the lock for free!!!! I told him absolutely not, because I felt he was a genuinely nice person, and I'm not a starving student or anything, but I did want to get inside my damn apartment, so I told him to just come over. 15 minutes later, he showed up with a small bag of tools and opened my door in about two minutes. He said he would do it as a donation of sorts, since he believed I really couldn't afford it... I told him I could afford it, I was just being cheap, and slipped the $60 in his jacket pocket b/c that's what we had agreed upon. He said he was so grateful to meet nice people every day, and I thanked him for being so kind. If you ever need a locksmith, call Simon! Simon saved my bacon! Unfortunately, I sit here as I wait for him to arrive for the SECOND time since I've moved into my apartment. This is mostly because I'm an idiot. The first time was when I locked myself out the very day I first moved into my apartment! Simon was very friendly when I talked to him over the phone and arrived promptly. As he crouched while working on my lock we had a brief conversation during which I asked him if he enjoyed his job. He paused and looked at me with a genuine twinkle in his eye, and said simply, "To me, this is not a job. I get to meet interesting new people everyday, and mostly they are all very nice." With that, he gave my door handle a light push and my door swung open effortlessly. I'd be lying if I said my mouth wasn't a little agape. What a guy. He charged me a very reasonable fee, and we chatted some more afterwards and he asked me some questions about photography. When I called him the second time, he even remembered me and said "AH! The photographer!" I'm finishing this review minutes after he left, and he was just as brilliant on his second visit. I was sad to hear that I had interrupted his evening with his friends to come help me, but relieved all the same to be rescued from my own stupidity once more. There's definitely something to be said for a business that is professional and competent. You feel as if you are getting your money's worth in services. But there's something intangible and unquantifiable, about dealing with an individual who not only is good at what he does, but is happy to provide you with that service. Wow. This guy is like MacGyver, but with locks. Another previous locksmith made some errors on my locks (before we moved in), so Simon comes by, takes a look, laughs, and then swiftly takes the components out, oils them, and then tears off two bits from a nearby coupon sitting on my kitchen table, screws those bits BEHIND the little metal "frame" on the door, and suddenly the lock is working like new. SIMON IS AMAZING! My sliding glass door to my patio wouldn't lock in my new apartment, and my landlord is senile and kept forgetting to have the handyman take care of it. Anyone born before 1975 can probably relate to my wistful recollections of bygone days, when people who came to your home to repair things responded promptly to phone calls, showed up on time, knew what they were doing, didn't charge an arm and a leg, and had integrity. I thought those days were gone forever...until I met Simon. What a sweet man. We have French doors that open onto an outdoor area, which is accessible (with some effort and derring-do) to potential thieves and knife-wielding serial killers. The handle on these doors, loose for ages, had finally, literally, come off, and I turned to Yelp. (The last locksmith who had done work at our house, picked at random from the Yellow Pages, had been expensive.) I read Simon's universally 5-star reviews and placed the call. He arrived punctually a few hours later and, as others have remarked, was courteous, kind, and honest. He repaired the door handle for a very reasonable price and did not try to sell me a $3000 Theft-Deterrent Door Hardware System. And he insisted on cleaning the smudges his hands left on the door frame, despite my assurances that I didn't mind doing it myself. "I want to do a clean job," he said, and that he did. Simon was great, I've worked with a few other locksmiths in the past few years and he just really went above and beyond. Our prior locksmith had gone out of business, so I was in search of a new one and used YELP to find him. He came out within an hour, troubleshooted the problem and then worked into the night, so we wouldn't have to leave our establishment unlocked. One guy quoted more than double. I thought I needed to change out the entire lock, but Simon said that it was unnecessary and to save my money. To boot, he gave me a 3rd key for free.
