We called Simon to fix a rusted door lock that refused to open, which he proceeded to mend at warp speed. Once done, Simon asked if there were other problem spots in our house. We lost the mailbox key. What to do? Call several locksmiths. The local guy wants $65; someone in Pasadena wants $85 to replace the lock. Luckily I call Simon and leave a message. I decide to hire the local locksmith. A few minutes later Simon calls, and I tell him I've hired someone else. He asked me how much I'm going to be charged and what's my issue. He starts telling me how to fix it myself. At first I was annoyed, but started to become embarrassed to think how much money I'm about to pay someone to drill the lock out and replace it with a $4 lock/key set. I needed to change, fix and match our antique locks a few days ago and had no idea where to turn. My friend looked up yelp (now my new favourite site) and found Simon. He was unbelievable. First of all he came by on time as we arranged, he fixed our old locks something we had be unable to get done by other locksmiths for months. Then he inspected our other lock and took it as a personal challenge to find us a match to replace the broken one so that our doors would match. I could not believe when he came back a few hours later with a replacement. I do not know how he did it, we had looked every where for a match. He just smiled and would not reveal his secret. Los Angeles needs more trade professionals like Simon!! I needed a replacement key for my 2003 Ford Focus, which would cost $150 and require an hour and half appointment at the dealer. The key has a chip. I called Simon, he told me he does not have the chip reader to do the job but would call me back in an hour with info on who could do the job for less than the dealer. Half hour later, Simon called and told me to try OSH on La Brea. End of story, I got the key made in 5 minutes for $79.99! So helpful and kind man! read more

What's going on here? So many good reviews? But when I called (on different days) to inquire about how to get a duplicate key made for my car, he was just totally weird on the phone. Even my friend called and he was the same way with her. He is always saying he's on the other line. And he doesn't call back. Very disappointing sales skill. Simon was sweet and even came over to my house to give me a free estimate to change all the locks in the house (a garage gate, two metal door gates as well as all the keys to the doors). The problem is he was unreliable and disorganized. On the day we arranged to have a consultation I called him on my way home and he asked to push it to the next day. When he came over for the consultation he was very nice to work with so I decided to go with him. However, when it came to getting the order correct he just couldn't get it right. I had to call him several times to make sure - and every time I called to make sure he was clear on what was needed I felt like I had to clarify and re-clarify again. It was important to get this right since I had several different types of locks and some parts needed to be ordered. Eventually I decided to cut my losses and go with someone else. This other locksmith was much easier to work with, reliable and organized. I think Simone would be great to work with during an emergency but certainly not for more complicated requests read more

After calling several locksmiths with horrible results, I turned to yelp and found Simon. I needed a key for my car that has a transponder chip in it in the morning as I had to go to work. Simon couldn't help me with this type of key, but gave me a number to a guy that could. The guy that he refered me to was just as friendly as Simon and gave me a price much lower than a previous locksmith service who wouldn't even have a locksmith call me until around 9. my roommate accidentally locked her keys in her bedroom this morning and so of coarse we first tried to pick the lock ourselves...big surprise no luck there. We called around looking for the cheapest price and this guy bargained with us and gave us a very reasonable number. He arrived shortly after we called to find a charming hungarian man of many trades. He messed with the lock for maybe 5 minutes and bam good as new! He said he would do it free of charge for a glass of water, but we insisted to pay the agreed upon price. the rest of my review looks much like the others, we chatted for a while and he even offered to teach us the basics if it were to happen again, although I still don't think we will be able to figure it out on our own! This locksmith made my day, which started out pretty crappy and got worse when I locked myself out of my room. I panicked, but luckily had the phone in my hand. We have used in the past " B.H. lock & key" they have scalped us each time and have had to return many times to make it work. But Simon came changed the lock charged less than half of "B.H. There's no doubt that his warm sense of humor, patience, and wisdom is the reason he gets calls. He could have just done the job and left. I bought a new knob and deadbolt set for Simon to install this past weekend. I thought that my locks were broken and wanted him to take a look at my door frame too to see if he could fix it. Anyway, he came over, took a quick look at my door and frame, brought out some tools, got working on it, and within like 10 minutes, he fixed my door and re-keyed both locks for 1/2 the price another locksmith quoted me. Simon's the best! We called late one night after deciding last minute to re-key our door locks. He came out around 7:30pm on a Sunday and gave us a fair price for re-keying four locks. Called and asked him to give a quote to rekey my home lock. He said he can come and take a look at the lock and give me a final price. If I find him too expensive I can call someone else. On the phone he said if the lock is simple it will be 65$ and if he needs to get some hardware or fixes it will be between $65-$85 for 2 locks.. He came home, started working on the lock and never gave me a quote and finished the entire job very soon which was good. However, when I asked him the cost he said 95$. I was so pissed becoz the job was straight forward and there were no issues at all. I had to bargain with him and I finally gave him $75 which other locksmith had quoted me. The worse was he took the money but made it sound as if I was wrong and that he was letting go of the money he deserved and it was a favor he was doing for me.. Even though he did his job well I would NOT recommend anyone this guy becoz i am not in favor of ppl who dont live upto their word and try to get more out of others than they need to.
