Bad, bad, and worse! Used to be a client but this shop has recently tried to charge me 4x as much as they used to for simple services like oil and brakes, they claim because of inflation but i think its because i am an older man. And the employees are now so rude and short with me. It just feels unfair. I hope they figure it out. The ABS brake went on my 1992 Ford Explorer XLT. I went to my regular mechanic; he referred me to the Ford Dealer. The Ford Dealer said they do not fix old models. I have been going to Simon's since 1999 and he serviced all of my cars at some point since then (except when my BMWs had the free service period because free if hard to beat). They worked on my Mazda RX7, Audi TT, BMW X3, Honda CRV, GMC Yukon Denali and my wife's BWM 328i. Anything you can throw at them, they will fix in a timely and cost effective manner. Last example was my wife car that was towed to another place on a weekend where they quoted $1700 to fix her starter. Simon's Automotive fixed it for half of that. Unfortunately I have to break up with this shop after approximately 20 years. Took my SUV in for something, I believe on a Friday, and was told that the tires needed replacing. I was supposed to get a call the following Monday with a quote; never happened. Took the car to the Tire Center at Costco where they examined them and said that I had 30-40K miles left on the tires. Also stopped by Simon's because my cabin air filter needed replacing. I had the part and had managed to remove one of the covers but was having trouble with the last one. I asked if they knew how to remove it and was told it would cost me $25 for them to install it. Mind you, this couldn't have been more than a 20-second job. I have had several vehicles repaired here over the years and spent tens of thousands of dollars in repairs and they want to nickel and dime me? Not happening. BTW, I stopped by Bastoli Auto Body in Inglewood and Jim popped the air filter in, in about 10 seconds, no charge. read more

I have been going to Simon's for at least 10 years. Phil has always done a great job...until yesterday. I explained I had an intermittent problem that involved the ABS light and the speedometer on my 1999 Ford Ranger. I told him I thought that the issue was with the ABS/speed sensor on the rear differential, or the wiring of said sensor, and I asked if he would check it out. He called me three hours later saying he couldn't reproduce the issue. He said he drove the truck and it didn't throw any codes. I told him it was intermittent, it's only happened maybe 5 times in the last year, I wouldn't expect him to be able to reproduce the issue on a test drive. All I wanted him to do was check the sensor and the sensor's wiring to the GEM and he said over the phone that he wouldn't do it. Having spent thousands of dollars at Simon's over the last decade, and willing to spend more, I must say I was very disappointed. read more

I took my car to Simon this year as I have been to them many times before but my issue is not with their work as it is exceptional but my issue is that they overcharge and you dont even know you were overcharged until much later on because they are all so nice and you just go with the flow (which is my fault).. Just be more educated and get other quotes when work is needed for your vehicle as it is a fair thing to do as I do understand that they too need to make money for their business but not to the point where they are charging more than the dealer does. Like I said they do really good top quality work and they also have a fast turnaround time in getting your car back to you. I will be back to them in the future but I will be going to the dealer first and then see if Simon can beat the price. The old adage being "you get what you pay for" is true with Simon and I have no complaints with their work. :-) Lastly, STAY AWAY FROM PEP BOYS UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE PROBED & ROBBED and have your wallet missing. read more

Thank goodness I've only had to use this place twice , let me explain..... it's never good when you have to take your car into the shop. But the 2 times I used this place I was glad I did. The guys here are helpful and honest. I've always felt that they do honest work and they call you and keep you updated on the progress. There are never hidden charges. My vehicle is pretty distinct and they hear it coming towards the corner and almost every time they have stopped to wave since they are at the corner of Grant and Aviation. They do not nickel and dime people. When and if I have car trouble this will be my go to mechanic. read more

I've been going to Simon since he opened & I lived around the corner. I now live in Long Beach, but I still take my car to Simon's. Even for a simple oil change. Why? Because he actually changes your filters & checks your fluids as well as change your oil. Unlike Jiffy Lube & places like that. He plugs my car into his computer and tells me what's wrong quicker than my dealer does. Simon's is reasonably priced & honest. He actually says things like, "You're gonna need brakes soon. But probably not for another 3 months." I recommend him to all of my friends. But definitely call for your appointment ahead of time. Simon's is very busy & very popular. My husband and I have been going to Simons for about 3 years. We have always been impressed with their efficient and honest service. Phil and Simon are both GREAT. Last year, after my husband had left for work- I went out to start the car and take my son to school the battery had died. I immediately called Phil and he drove to my house and jumped my car. I took my son to school and then drove it to Simons and he replaced my battery. Awesome! It doesnt matter if your car need major or minor work- they willt ake great care of you. Small, independent auto repair shop. I've taken several different cars there over the past few years, and most of the time they've done a good job. They were pretty responsive to my needs, kept me in the loop regarding repair options, and as far as I can tell they were reasonably priced. The only real downside to Simon's is that you'll need a shoehorn to get your car into their tiny driveway which is littered with cars about to get fixed, cars in the midst of getting fixed, or happy cars about to leave. Dropping off your car can be quite stressful, especially if their driveway is full and you have to back up onto Grant Blvd as cars are approaching to make a swift right turn onto Aviation. But with relatively close proximity to my home and to a bus station, with fair prices and quality results, Simon has kept me rolling. read more

Mike called to give me a progress report on the repairs and also gave me a complete history about my scooter and encouraged me to hang on to the scooter because it is so reliable and they continue to make parts for the almost 30 year old bike. Mikes passion for his work is palpable and his competence shines through. For a product or a service to be considered professional it must be competent, caring and convenient. Bought a '69 Chevy Van with it's original drivetrain and exhaust. It's a 250 straight 6 with a 3 on the tree that's a Saginaw Tranny w/overdrive. Took it to Havasu over the 4th of July weekend, and it was hot out there! That trip was the van's first long trip, and I didn't know how fast it could go for long periods of time at that insane heat. Discovered that every time I had to stop, the engine wouldn't start until it cooled off which took an average of :25. Lesson learned; stick to the speed limit. On the way back from Havasu the exhaust took a dump, and it was loud. Every time I drove by Simon's Automotive, I've always seen a lot of old cars as well as new cars, and a steady flow of overturn. The place was also nicely kept, so that was a good indicator of the service as well. One day, I rode my motorcycle from a shop, and ran out of gas by Simon's shop. I didn't know them at the time, but they helped me out! Got enough gas to hit the gas station, and I was on my way - drama free. So that experience showed what good people they were. Consequently, since the van's engine & exhaust were in dire need of attention, I chose this shop to manage my vintage van's mechanical services. I spoke with Simon to get a feel of his passion for hopping up a car and attention to detail, to find out that him and his son were just finishing up restoring a 66 Mustang that was uber sano! Satisfied with my choice, I leave my car there, and he calls me the next day to say my car is ready. Whaaaat?!!! So, I pick up my Van, and it is suhweeeeeet. New exhaust and it's quiet and pretty too. She's also more responsive, and if I had power steering, I'd feel as if I'm in a modern vehicle. They are super nice which is what got me, BUT after a few experiences with them and thousands of dollars later, I now realize that they are A MAJOR RIP OFF... AND they are NOT experienced with BMWs. Just moved to the area and saw all the great reviews on Yelp so decided to try out Simons Automotive for my BMW. Hoping for an honest, reasonably priced independent mechanic, I went to Simon's for a few repairs on my 10 year old car - I was surprised that their pricing was a little steep, but I trusted that they would do a great job. They worked on my brakes and to my surprise, they charged almost as much as the BMW dealership. I bit my tongue and paid it. They also fixed my wiper which literally flew off the windshield one day, only to find a week later, the wiper coming out of place again, so I had to bring it back for them to tweek. I let all of that stuff go. Then I wanted the keys to my car to be reactivated. The remote stopped opening and closing the doors to the car. So I called Simon to ask if he could reprogram it. He told me to bring it in and he'd take a look at it. So I brought it in. He tried the keys and sure enough, they didn't work. So he said that he had a friend who had a computer that can reprogram keys like this and he would ask him to borrow it. He then mentioned that if I did bring it to the BMW dealership instead, they would charge me A LOT of money for programming it. So being absolutely oblivious to how these keys work, I believed him and brought the car in the next day. They kept the car for the ENTIRE DAY to reprogram the keys!!!! When I picked the car up, they presented me with a bill of $160!!!! I looked at the bill in disbelief. They said it was an effort to borrow the computer and then reprogram the keys. I let it go and paid the damn bill. Then I left, content that my keys finally worked again. Later I get home, and my husband mentions that our former independent mechanic on the other side of town reset our keys once by pressing a few buttons and turning the keys in some sequential way to reset it. Then I called a BMW Dealership and ask them how much it would cost to reset my keys, and the service adviser told me to just come in and he will reset it for me for no charge, in the driveway. Now what is this BS about Simon saying he needed to borrow a computer? I was floored. I take responsibility for being completely ripped off and paying that $160 - I should've looked online how it was done, or at least call the dealership first, before going to Simon, but I trusted him! Oh well, I will write that $160 off to charity. Then 2 months later, my power steering hose (which Simon replaced for $400 + dollars parts and labor previously) started to leak AGAIN. I brought it to ANOTHER mechanic, and they told me that there is a brand new hose in there and it is the wrong hose which is probably why it's leaking. They are quoting me a little less to replace it yet again. So proves to me yet again that Simons Automotive is a complete rip off. read more
