Beautiful ambiance, reasonable prices, and very flavorful and delicious food! This was my first time trying Indonesian food, and I was pleasantly surprised! All 3 dishes I tried had great complexity of flavor, and I will definitely be back to try more. This spot will definitely be making my Asian food rotation!

Great, homey food! All the dishes we had were great. The nasi goreng and beef rendang were my personal favorites. Service was pretty quick and the place was clean with a good amount of tables. It's in a small plaza so parking can be hard, but there is street parking around.

Saw great reviews for this place so definitely wanted to check it out. They have a nice outdoor seating area which we sat at one of the tables. Their menu is not super big but they have a bunch of great options to choose from. The beef rendang tasted amazing and pairs well with the coconut rice. The food and even the Thai iced tea was very tasty. Our server was friendly and patient as well. Definitely recommend dining here.

Food 4/5 Service 4/5 Ambiance 5/5 The food was good, although a bit different from traditional Indonesian food (but of course the chef will have their own iteration). The beef redang was nice and tender and the gado gado savory and crunchy. The real star was the martabak--amazing! Just like Indonesia it is a bit costly for what it is though. The interior of the restaurant was stylish and modern, with both an indoor and outdoor setting.

My son introduced me to Simpang Asia, and he was absolutely right--the food here was fantastic. The restaurant itself is cute and cozy, with a relaxed atmosphere and outdoor seating that makes it a great place to unwind and share a meal. We started with the Roti Paratha, which arrived warm and flaky alongside a rich curry dipping sauce. For shared plates, we ordered the Bali Sea Bass and Stir Fry Water Spinach. The sea bass was beautifully prepared with layers of spice and aromatics, plus just enough heat to keep every bite interesting. The water spinach arrived sizzling at the table, adding to the experience and making the dish feel fresh from the wok. For noodles, my son ordered his usual favorite, the Mie Tek Tek, while my daughter chose the Mie Ayam, which she thoroughly enjoyed. To drink, we had white wine, Terra beer, and a Thai iced tea that came with a cute presentation. There was a small hiccup when our beverages were forgotten, but the staff handled it well and kindly comped our appetizer, which we appreciated.

    Nasi Bungkus (# 8) packaging

While Simpang Asia has two locations, it is the original restaurant in Palms, that has the best dining hours, that include lunch on the weekdays. It is also my favorite Indonesian restaurant and I had to stop by for their Dine LA lunch menu. Since I have been here several times before, I came here because their two course menu, had both my favorite appetizer (Roti Paratha) and entree (Nasi Bungkus). While a very limited beer and wine selection is offered at a reduced price, it is only your first drink that gets the discount. The Roti Paratha came nicely toasted, flaky, soft and cut up into 4 freshly charred pieces. When dipped into the small portion of peanut accented curry, it dissolved in the mouth harmoniously with every bite. It is my opinion, that the Nasi Bungkus, is one of their best preparations and that its flavor is heightened by its packaging in a banana leaf. All the ingredients were cooked perfectly. The two meats (beef rendang and chicken curry), the vegetables (including beans), the egg sambol and the rice all married so well, to provide a multitude of spice and complex flavors. The big problem coming here is not the food choices, its the horrible parking options. The small strip mall has other stores too, and the few parking spots are always taken. I have never been able to park here. Instead, it is always on the street. It was again agonizing this time, because they were taken too. After a few rounds, I managed to get a paid meter spot. Oh well. I suppose you cannot have everything.

We came here on a double date and absolutely loved it!! Everything we ordered was so yummy. We devoured it. We got the Roti Paratha, Rendang, some chicken dish the waiter recommended (not sure what it was called), Char Kway Teow, Cah Kangkung and a fried rice. I would say our least favorite was the rendang because it was a little more dry, but the flavor was good. No notes on anything else! We also go Thai Iced Teas, which were great. Service was fast and the inside is cute.

the yummiest authentic indo food!! the es cendol is a must try, i love the coconut base and pandan jellies. i was also a big fan of the lumpia, and was so happy it was vegetarian! the martabak manis is also delicious, it has the perfect amount of nuttiness and some of that nutty texture as well. they had a disclaimer that gado gado is not common for non-indonesians, but that made me want to try it even more! i wasn't expecting it to be cold, which is what threw me off, it felt more like a salad. the chips were nice and crispy, and the peanut flavor was nice!! potatoes and tofu was done well, just the greens weren't what i was expecting. definitely coming back to try more :) a good amount of vegetarian dishes available here which is a plus. they seemed pretty busy, so making a reservation would be a good idea for a larger group. also seems like you have to flag down the waiters at times, but that's not uncommon for asian hospitality.

Food and vibe were great but service was just ok. We went on a friday and the place was packed. We ordered a bunch of plates and they were all good. The chicken curry was my favorite followed by their pad see ew. The mei tek noodles had a unique flavor that I didn't fully love as much as people on Yelp had said. Don't skip the roti for an appetizer- that was also really delicious!

Evvvvvery once and again I get to sneak away from my best friend, Hubs, and try something non-diner, non-Italian, non-pub grub. When I have a friend that says, 'Indonesian food? I've never tried it.' then it off to Simpang Asia!!!! I've been coming here since they were just a small market with delicious "street food" that reminded me of trips to Singapore, Malaysia and, of COURSE, Indonesia. S.A. is the real deal and I'm so happy they have grown to the beautiful restaurant they have now. The decor is tropical in the most elevated way. Dishes are simple and SO flavorful. Today I introduced my friend to SOME of my fave dishes - it's SO HARD to not over order! FIRST - before ANYTHING ELSE happens - the Lemper: sweet rice wrapped around shredded coconut chicken. I could eat this ALLLL DAY! The sweetness of the rice balances perfectly with the tender chicken. Next it was the Sea Bass. Perfectly grilled in banana leaves then covered with an intimidating looking Balinese style sambal chili sauce. But it's more flavorful than hot and that's what I love about the dishes here. Order the shrimp "chips" to dip in the sambal sauce so you don't miss a drop. We also ordered the traditional, can't miss, Char Kway Teow. This is what I used to get around 2am, after drinking and dancing and HUNGRY! A street vendor usually would prepare it with the protein he had that day. At Simpang Asia, the lovely wide rice noodles come with pieces of chicken sausage, fish balls, shrimp in a sauce with chili , some sprouts and an mixed in egg. It always hits the spot and is comfort food at its best. Not only is everything aromatic and flavorful, but the presentation is beautiful. Each dish is usually presented with a beautiful leaf and/or a lovely orchid. Thoughtfully presented and delicious. Simpang Asia and its wonderful staff just make me happy to dine here. Don't forget the Es Cendol to drink! Coconut milk and palm sugar hold little, bright green jellied pandan, that hold just a hint of vanilla. The ladies at the table next to us, already done with their meals, started eyeing ours. When they asked us about everything, I gleefully went into each description. 'Do you work here?' they laughed. Nope! Just a big fan. They then ordered the Lemper and an Es Cendol to share. Isn't food amazing the way it brings people together and spread joy?!? Thanks, again, Simpang Asia! I truly look forward to any chance I get to enjoy your delicious dishes. Cheers! "CC"

Fantastic food and warm, attentive service. There's outdoor seating available, which is a nice option -- though parking can be a bit tricky, so plan ahead. Almost everything we tried was packed with flavor and had a unique twist. If you're a fan of spicy food, this place definitely delivers. Highly recommend trying the #8 Nasi Bungkus, Char Kway Teow, and Nasi Goreng Jawa -- all were standouts!

It's been over 10 years since my last visit and I'm glad to say, the food is still amazing. I went here on Friday night at 7pm with reservations. We were unfortunately seated at the very back corner table so it was a bit uncomfortable and not very spacious. Service was quick and the food came out fast. Roti Paratha: so delicious. The flatbread is so buttery and perfected when dipped in the curry sauce. Lumpia: these came out piping hot! It's nothing special but it was good Nasi Bungkus: this is a fun experience having this dish served in a banana leaf and you have the fun of opening and unwrapping it. Hainanese Chicken Rice: the chicken is so moist and juicy and this dish was really tasty! Rendang: easily my fave. The beef is cooked till tender and it's so good with the coconut sauce Coconut Rice: highly recommended! It's a subtle coconut flavor but paired with the food, it's so good! Parking here is terrible to we took a Waymo here, although our Waymo almost got us into an accident when it got confused. ‍

The portion size alone is impressive. The container is packed and feels substantial the moment you pick it up. The base is a bed of fries, and these are not just filler. They are thick, well seasoned, and sturdy enough to handle all the toppings without turning into a soggy mess. On top of the fries is a generous amount of chicken. The chicken tastes freshly cooked, with that warm, savory flavor you expect from good shawarma, never dry and never overly salty. There are pita chips mixed in, which add a great crunch and texture against the fries and chicken. Multiple sauces are drizzled throughout the dish. I chose a side of their spicy sauce. The creamy white sauce balances things out, while the orange sauce brings a mild heat and a little extra depth. None of the sauces overpower the dish, they work together to coat everything evenly and keep every bite flavorful. Diced tomatoes and corn adds a touch of sweetness that surprisingly works really well here. A sprinkle of herbs throughout helps brighten everything up and keeps the dish from feeling too heavy, even though it is definitely filling. This is comfort food done right. It is messy in the best way, packed with flavor, at least to me it was. If you are looking for something hearty, satisfying, and consistently well made, I will always recommend Anwar's Kitchen. Anwar's Kitchen delivers quality food, and I will keep ordering from them.

My head is thinking "calm down--we ate minimally and got drinks. Don't offer it if you're going to have an attitude about adjusting the bill". It was just weird. They also didn't offer any bday dessert treat but we weren't super pressed bc we were so full. The meat was a bit overdone and all kind of tasted the same this visit. Oyster Mushroom Kebab (5/5) Amazing smokey, well-charred and juicy mushroom with a nice price tag attached to it, but still worth to enjoy. It's served with avocado-lovage puree and sumac, which paired well with the mushroom flavor. 4. Grilled Octopus (5/5): The octopus tentacles were cooked to perfection - soft & melts in your mouth. It's almost like eating a very soft rice cake with a hint of seafood flavor note. It's served with sides of skordalia potato puree, brocooli, lamb xo sauce and coated in dill to give it a slightly spicy and savory profile. 5. Slow-Roasted Lamb Neck Shawarma (4.5/5) Super tender lamb meat that's also very fatty. It's served with a side of basil-cilantro like sauce, pickled vegetables and tahini sauce which was super creamy and helped to cut the gaminess of the lamb. The dish also comes with a full size laffa bread, which was fresh (made in-house; you can literally see them making it in the background) and pillowy-soft to wrap the lamb meat in. 6. Cherry Sumac & Ricotta cheese pastry (4/5) We ended with a crispy Cherry jam tart. The puff pastry was flaky puff while the cherry jam was tart and sweet. It paired well with their ricotta cheese, which was light and airy and sprinkled with sumac. It also comes with a scoop of Pistachio ice cream that's subtly nutty and floral but was a bit too sweet for our liking. Overall, the food here was good, but the dining environment was too loud for our liking. This place is often compared to Bestia, which we prefer. Fun fact - Bavel and Bestia are owned by the same owners.

I ordered the Blood In, Blood Out and my wife ordered the Hispanic! At the Disco. Both drinks were amazing. We also ordered an appetizer of their Smoked Hatch Chili Queso which was delicious in every conceivable way. Additionally, the hostess we first talked to and our waiter were both outstanding. A++ service here. We're definitely going to come back next time we're in the area.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!…read more When the employee lured us in, she said to go to the counter inside and wait for someone to seat us. There were several employees that saw us just standing there, but we still waited there for 5 mins before someone told the girl from outside to take us to our table. We were finally seated. Then guy who told the girl to seat us was just standing around d chit chatting with another employees for about 15 minutes before he even came to our table. He never even introduce himself. He just took our order. Another 20 mins came by before our food was served. OUR FOOD WAS ROOM TEMPERATURE. Short Rib was ok. The macaroni was stale and OLD! It was dry and not fresh! We asked for extra BBQ sauce and that didn't arrive for another 15 mins. We had to wave down another employee to try to get the sauce to us. I wouldn't recommend this place! Horrible service. Didn't even come around to see if we needed anything or if everything was good or not. We came here around 1:30pm on 3/16. The restroom was also out of paper towels and soap from the soda dispenser. Poor quality food! Glad I tried it, so I know to not come back again!

Strap in, this place is a full experience. I had posted about it and so many people hit me up…read moresaying they've always wanted to try it and live nearby. After going, I get the hype. We started with those super delicate pani puri style poppers. I've seen them on MasterClass and always wanted to try them, so finally getting them here was a moment. Filled with tandoori flavors, chutneys, mint, and a yogurt center that pops in your mouth. So good. Cocktails paired perfectly too. The pickle one and the Purple Rain were both solid gin drinks. Service was great. The bartender and server were both super knowledgeable and helped guide us through everything, which made a big difference with a menu like this. The ambience is beautiful. Big bar in the back, great lighting, a mix of natural and more moody tones that make it feel elevated but still comfortable. For mains, the pot pies are a must. We tried the biryani and the butter chicken versions, completely different but both worth it. Portions are huge, you will have leftovers. The quesadilla with fajita peppers and tandoori chicken was such a cool fusion idea and worked really well. The boneless truffle chicken had this creamy, almost alfredo style sauce with Indian spices that made it super unique. Ended with the saffron noodle pistachio ice cream dessert and that was unlike anything I've had before. Definitely something you try at least once. This is one of those spots where everything feels creative and intentional. I'll definitely be back.
