Cookie and Cream Ice Cream Cakes (8-inch)

My husband wanted an ice cream cake for his birthday, and I wanted something that wasn't Baskin Robbins. I found Simple Delights via Google and placed my order for an eight-inch cookies and cream ice cream cake for delivery. I chose Simple Delights because they were open and delivered on a Sunday! The whole process was quick and easy. I also ordered a funfetti cookie, a slice of red velvet and pistachio ice cream cake, and furikake snack mix. My order arrived 10 minutes before my 3 p.m. delivery window. Everything was fantastic! The ice cream super good and the cakes were moist. 10/10 I think I've found my new sweet treat spot!

We were lucky enough to have a strawberry ice cream cake from simple delights. My brother-in-law always tries to find places that we haven't gone to. I didn't go to the restaurant so I can't speak to the service or the ambience, but I can't speak to the quality of the cake. It tasted so good. The strawberry ice cream tasted like it was freshly made using fresh strawberries. The cake was the perfect compliment to the ice cream, nice and soft. I would just say that I would like more cake. I felt like the amount of ice cream was huge compared to the amount of cake and I also felt like there wasn't enough frosting, but I still absolutely loved it and highly recommended. I would like to try another of their cakes.

Simple Delights has become a go-to sweets bakery for one of my clients, and they have absolutely delivered every single time. We've ordered several custom birthday cakes through them, and each one has turned out beautifully--both in design and in flavor. I only have a photo of one of the cakes, but the consistency and quality across all of them has been phenomenal. The team here is incredibly friendly, patient, and easy to work with. I ordered a small birthday cake from Simple Delights this weekend and I am very impressed. Ordering online through their website for next-day pick up was a breeze. Couldn't have been easier. Good communication with the email confirmation and text reminder when pick up time approached. The chocolate raspberry mousse cake itself was neat, elegant and extremely well executed. I am extremely impressed with their finishing - the mirror glaze was perfect, the raspberries were perfect and even the tiny mint leaves for garnish were perfect! The mousse was silky and the cake underneath was fudgy and divine. It was the perfect cake to cap off my brother's birthday dinner. Thank you, Simple Delights! I just tried this place and got a vanilla panna cotta with strawberries. It was tasty and it was $7.25 I did like it while I do think it could cost a little less and was a little pricey for me but it was still good.

I love the selection of desserts at this shop. You can get a three layer cake or small personal sized desserts to share! I recently ordered three (a raspberry, chocolate, and mango) small cakes as a post birthday treat. Ordering was easy on their website and they were all really delicious!

Wonderful customer service!! Easy to communicate with as I live in Oregon and was able to plan a surprise 80th number cake for my dad's birthday. It was absolutely absolutely divine! We got the Ube with whipped chiffon frosting. I've never had more people come up to me and asked me. Where did you get this cake? It was absolutely delicious.

This is a nice little shop with desserts, and the service is decent. We got the Ube Cheesecake, Matcha Panna Cotta, Ube Butter Mochi, and Matcha Green Tea Ice Cream. The Ube Cheesecake tasted weird as hell and didn't taste at all like Ube. I definitely wouldn't get this awful tasting Cheesecake again. The Matcha Panna Cotta was okay. I could taste a little Matcha, but not a lot. It was nothing special and I have tasted better Panna Cotta. The Ube Butter Mochi was okay. It thankfully tasted better than the Cheesecake and had the right texture. This also tasted fine, but didn't taste like Ube at all. The best thing I tried there was the Matcha Green Tea Ice Cream. It had good flavor and actually tasted like Matcha Green Tea. Overall, most of the desserts were meh. If I am going to pay for the flavoring of these desserts, then I want them to actually taste like the flavor they say. So, I wouldn't recommend this place or come here again.

Thank you Simple Delights for my wedding cake!! I was a little worried since I never tried their cakes before but my wedding cake came out perfect! Not only was it beautiful but it also tasted amazing. I got the ube flavor with vanilla buttercream based on their recommendation and it was delicious and not too sweet. I actually didn't even need a cake topper since the cake turned out so nice!

Extraordinary customer service! We've ordered cakes for friends birthdays from simple delights and they never disappoint. Soft, moist cake with the right amount of sweetness! I placed an order for mini cupcakes and picked them up today. My coworkers loved it! The entire process was very smooth. I'm very excited to have this addition to the neighborhood. I'm glad there's still ice cream and even more excited that there's desserts and coffee! Ordering on their website was super easy. Pick up was so simple. The ube crinkle cookie was sooo delicious. Light and kinda cakey but still definitely a cookie. Powered sugar always makes me cough but in a tasty way. Just had the best chocolate and white chocolate layered mousse cake. The white chocolate is a lighter mouse. The chocolate mouse is traditional dense mouser and the chocolate cake bottom, sets the stage. Yummilicious. read more

Simple Delights is a small, local ice cream shop run by friendly staff. They are currently only open for takeout but I hope to see it become a neighborhood hangout spot once the pandemic is over. Its location in Laurelwood Shopping Center means ample free parking, which is a plus. I tried the Ice Cream Family Pack, which comes with two pints of ice cream with four toppings - everything was packaged up nicely for takeout! A good amount for a family sundae night or a 2-week personal supply of ice cream... haha. The ice cream comes from Double Rainbow (based in SF!) - I tried Mocha Almond Fudge and Matcha ice cream - both flavors were really tasty. The toppings were a pretty generous size too. I HIGHLY recommend the brownie and cookie toppings - I put both in the freezer alongside the ice cream and the brownies are so fudgy and chewy! The cookies taste homemade. Overall, would recommend for high-quality ~local~ ice cream and baked goods!!! I love going out for ice cream, which is sadly not as possible these days, and I would say that Simple Delights is a good place to get your ice cream fix (and to also support local business)! read more

I really enjoyed the quality of ice cream and dessert this place provides. You really pay for what you get. My family and I got a scoop of cookies and cream, a scoop of chocolate chip cookie dough, and a peppermint brownie. The ice creams were nice and creamy and the brownie was very moist and delicious. This place is truly a hidden gem! Every thing they have is beautifully made and tastes delicious. My favorite is the chocolate crinkle cookie and the butter Mochi. I plan to get my daughters 7th birthday cake from here next year. It's so close to my house and it's so convenient to stop on my way home to pick up a sweet treat for dessert! read more

We tried the ube crinkle cookies, panna cottas, and white pistachio ice cream cake. All were simply delightful! I need to first RAVE about the UBE crinkle cookies!! They're soft and crumbly yet gooey and perfectly semi sweet with powdered sugar. Please come here to at least have a dozen of those (to share of course) and then don't forget to try their ice creams with plenty of flavors and save room for a panna cotta! I preordered online which made it contactless and very easy for pick up. We customized our cake pretty easily online and there was no hiccups and plenty of parking out front for pick up. So service was 10/10. They made our cake super beautiful for a special mother's birthday! We ordered the white pistachio ice cream cake and was able to customize the toppings. They somehow were able to arrange all the toppings so nicely, we took so many photos of the cake! We basically devoured the cake because the white pistachio was so good and luckily we don't have to wait for another birthday to have another slice because they sell ice cream cakes by the slices too! When I was ordering, they also had lychee ice cream flavor (!!) and basically any other flavor you can think of so go and enjoy :) They also had a few different panna cotta flavors like chocolate, matcha, coffee with fresh berries. My favorite was matcha! My bf's favorite was coffee. Would recommend trying all their flavors to find the one you love the most too! I ordered a lemon cake a week in advance for a surprise birthday party. The presentation was nice but the cake and even the cream turned out stale, at least couple of days old. It was embarrassing because there were guests who are professionals in the food industry. I would not pay $70 for this quality again. read more

Came across this gem during the lockdown and have been coming here since. My usual order is a large Chunky Monkey shake - I enjoy the banana and peanut butter with swirls of chocolate. What makes coming here worth it every time is the small surprise boxes you can get for $6.50. Ordered a strawberry shortcake online to be picked up in 4 days. They have several options to customize your cake and the online ordering system made it so easy. They sent out notifications to keep me updated on the status of the cake. We actually had the cake the day after we picked it up and it was still delicious. I love this bakery! The cakes and ice cream are absolutely delicious. They are on the lighter side of sweet but packed with flavor and wonderful seasonal surprises. The style is a great blend of eastern and western influences. Service is also friendly and responsive. I ordered cakes for my kids birthday. While the cake art is not as sharp as other bakers that specialize in design, it's perfectly decent if you want a good custom cake to top with your own toppers and very reasonably priced. i've been to this plaza many times and never noticed simple delights! my bf and i randomly wanted froyo and decided to try this place and omg I LOVE IT! they have a good amount of froyo flavors and toppings. i got the vanilla froyo with mochi and berries. the fruit is super fresh and she gave me a generous amount! they even have carbolite versions of froyo with no sugar which i'll try next time! i love that they also have cakes you can buy/order as well as ice cream, drinks, ice cream cakes, etc! i'll definitely be back here to try more froyo flavors and maybe get one of the cute mini cakes! :) read more

Ordered a gender reveal cake from simple delights but they RUINED my surprise! I gave them an envelope with the gender written in it. When I picked up the cake, the invoice slip was taped on the box included the gender / color of the cake clearly written on the slip . The surprise was RUINED! It was ridiculous! When client orders a surprise cake (like gender reveal!!), these thoughtful details cannot be overlooked! Even though they gave me partial refund back (20%), the surprise moment was ruined already! I can't believe I haven't written my review about Simple delights yet! I love everything about this shop from their delicious desserts to their welcoming and friendly staff. I used them for my wedding cake a while back and have been frequenting their shop ever since. We wanted a really simple cake design and Jessica was able to get every detail perfect. We also ordered vegan and gluten free cupcakes for our guests with allergens and they loved them very much. Our guests raved about our cake which included ube for one of the tiers and the other lemon cake with lemon curd and raspberries for the others. Still the best lemon curd I have ever had. The freshness and balance of their desserts keep us coming back year after year. Best ice cream cake ever! It looked so amazing--just like how I asked it to be made. My girlfriend loved it. The inside was matcha and vanilla ice cream. The vanilla ice cream was really creamy, but the matcha ice cream was a bit icy. The cake was ube flavored and it was not too sweet. The texture was a little dry but that is just how ice cream cakes are I guess. Overall it was an amazing cake. I would come back here everyday if I had a birthday everyday. read more

Best ice cream I've had in a while! Explored the plaza while charging the car and so happy I did. Everything looked great, but the ice cream flavors were super interesting. Nice big (delicious chocolate) chips in the mint & chip ice cream and the dark chocolate flavor was amazing. Very creamy, nothing grainy or gritty about it. Will definitely come back in the next time I need to charge. read more

My new fave dessert spot in the peninsula! It looks like a simple unassuming store from the exterior, but there's so many hidden goodies inside. Cakes are super moist and the cream filling/icing isn't too sweet. I love that they offer sweets with an asian flair, like the ube cheesecake and matcha panna cotta. They also have furikake snack mix if you're looking for a savory option. Pricing is fair and they offer small individual cakes in addition to larger cakes. The individual cakes are $5.75 each and the larger cakes start at $27.50 to $45 and up. read more

Simple Delights reopened on May 1st and has a new, bright look! The store has been updated with nice comfortable furnitures including free 'wi-fi.' The menu has been expanded to include desserts and coffees in addition to Double Rainbow Ice Cream and Honey Hill Frozen Yogurt that shop normally serve. My favorite ice cream flavors are Mint Chocolate Chip and Green Tea or Matcha ice creams. When I tried my favorite Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream between two soft chocolate-chip cookies (Ice Cream Sandwitches), I found new love : ) Ice Cream Cakes are available too. read more

They actually have froyo (hard to find nowadays with the boba takeover) AND ice cream! And cake. And it's tasty! And the lady behind the counter was SO so very nice. She asked me if I wanted my froyo to go and when I said yes please, she even individually packaged the toppings and put it in a brown paper bag like a to go lunch with so much care. I live right down the street from this place and every time I remember that I want to try this place it's always closed (covid hours). They have an assortment of ice cream flavors and different types of desserts. I really wanted to try the ube cheesecake and it did not disappoint. This was my first time trying their cakes. I got a customized 10 or 12inch cake for my dads 65th birthday and I must say the cake was delicious. Not forgetting the customer service over the email, the punctuality of getting back to me with answers and suggestions and a quote was really appreciated. Also ordered mini cupcakes and they were the perfect bite size. Everyone at the party loved the cake so much. It wasn't too sweet and the fresh fruit in the cake was indeed fresh! Randomly found this frozen yogurt store tucked in the plaza. Clean store and friendly staff. Good portions of froyo with sprinkles for my son. $1 coffee, can't complain. Will be back to try the ice cream flavors or other sweets. read more

The panna cottas were amazing! I tried the matcha and coffee flavors and it was super creamy and rich. The toppings compliment the flavors perfectly and enhance the dessert as a whole. Nice selection of cookies, brownies, and ice cream too. The place is only open for takeout during COVID-19, but will be a cool hangout once things fully open up. Sweet Delights will satisfy your sweet cravings. Family-owned business with super friendly staff. Stop by and give them a try. read more

Gotta love a small business owner these days, especially when they are serving up ice cream and cookies and coffee! To me, this is a winning combination no matter what season it is. I usually have no reason to stop off at the Laurelwood Shopping Center, but I do now. Simple Delights is in the right corner of the strip mall, next to the grocery store, Piazza's. The renovated shop looks sharp and clean. But let's get to the good stuff here...I ordered two pints of ice cream for my nieces, a dozen of cookies for my mom, and a cup of coffee to go for me. Everyone was happy! If you are old-school like me, you will remember that Swensen's used to be up here in the 80's and I have fond memories of that ice cream place. If you and your family love sweets, this place is a great place to try. Recently remodeled and now open for take out orders. Very clean and friendly. They have an assortment of ice cream flavors, frozen yogurt flavors, shakes, sundaes, ice cream sandwiches, granola, vanilla panna cotta, chocolate mousse, and ice cream cakes. Simple Delights took over J J's Ice Cream and Frozen Yogurt at the Laurelwood Shopping Center in San Mateo in October 2019 when the owner decided to retire. J J's had been in business for over 30 years, and we would like to continue the tradition of a small, local business. Our goal is to provide simple but quality treats, and to serve everyone with a smile and respect. In addition to our ice cream and frozen yogurt menu items, we have expanded our menu to include homemade toppings, desserts, and custom cakes. Presumably, never walking down their block of the Main St. alley had a lot to do with it, but who knows how much longer it would've taken if not for my friends suggesting we come here for dinner. Which is kind of ironic, considering the name of this place! While nothing about the outside of Dessert Republic really stands out, the decor inside is great. It may not be all that flashy nor have much of an IG aesthetic, but I like how it has a Hong Kong/Chinatown alley sort of look to it. As for the menu, true to their name, there's no shortage of desserts to choose from, whether it be hot desserts, like glutinous rice balls, sweet tofu, or egg pudding, cold desserts, like mixed fruits, sago, or ice cream sundaes, egg puffs, and crepes. In addition, they also have a bunch of regular food options, from snacks and dim sum items, to rice plates, noodle soups, and even lomo saltado. -- (#A03) POPCORN CHICKEN Not terrible, but not popcorn chicken either. Rather, this felt more like the salt & pepper porkchop dishes I've had in the past - the batter was thick, the chicken was unmarinated, it was seasoned with just salt and pepper, and it was topped with cut peppers instead of crispy basil. -- (#S01) BRAISED BRISKET & WONTON NOODLE SOUP Overall, this was a mixed bag. On the plus side, the bowl was decently loaded, the wontons were plump, and it had chunks of beef tendon, which were tender. On the other, while the noodles were fine, the veggies were way overcooked and the beef was chewy. -- (#M08) SUPER STRAWBERRY - Strawberry Freeze, Aloe Jelly, and Strawberries Topped with Strawberry Ice Cream Undoubtedly, this had a lot of strawberry flavor to it. Even though the strawberry freeze didn't do a ton for me, especially as it melted, I liked how well the aloe jelly, strawberries, and ice cream complemented each other. As far as service goes, I've seen some folks mention running into issues, but I've actually found it to be entirely unremarkable, for better or worse. Each time I've been here, the workers haven't really gone beyond the basics (take orders, bring out dishes, take care of checks, etc.), but I never really expect anything more than that either. Still, they do seem to be relatively friendly and get orders out decently fast, which certainly counts for something. Since I've clearly only had a small handful of what their menu has to offer, there's the distinct possibility (probability?) that I haven't had the best of what Dessert Republic has to offer. However, based on what I've ordered and my friends' egg puffs and sweet tofu that I've tried (both were fine), the desserts here definitely seem to be the safer bet overall. Which is handy since they stay open so late, especially on Friday and Saturday nights (until 1am).

Granted, my friends probably hyped it up a bit too much while we were waiting in line (I think it was already their second or third time going), but, regardless, I thought it was just okay. Fast forward all of these years later and I have to say - whether it's because my tastes have changed or because I found a flavor that I really liked, this place is so much better than I remember! With so many boba joints and dessert shops nearby, it's pretty easy to overlook Beard Papa's. Being located on the edge of downtown/3rd Ave certainly doesn't help, but, for something quick and convenient (and different), they're a decent option. While the menu may not look all that extensive, it has a fair amount to offer when you consider how you can mix and match your choice from their near dozen cream puffs/eclairs and handful of cream fillings. Add to that the occasional seasonal/featured flavors they'll have and their assortment of lava cakes and cheesecakes and there's plenty to choose from! -- ST. VALENTINE'S RASPBERRY ECLAIR - Raspberry Cream Custard-filled Eclair with White Chocolate Coating and Raspberry Frosting This was a seasonal offering (admittedly, an older one), but if they ever added this to their regular menu, I'd easily get this again. Mainly, the service here has been a little uneven - the first time we stopped in, the guy behind the counter looked really annoyed with having to help us and seemed like he was dying for us to leave (FWIW, we walked in almost an hour before they closed). Our last visit, though, the workers were friendly and super fast, as they handed us our eclair before we could even finish paying. Even though my opinion of Beard Papa's has definitely improved, since I never really crave cream puffs/eclairs and limit my sweets to the occasional scoop(s) of ice cream or milk tea, I can't say Beard Papa's is on the verge of getting into my regular dessert rotation. However, given how much I enjoyed their St. Valentine's Raspberry Eclair, I'm definitely more open to coming back than ever before if/when should the desire come along, especially since they don't have those same long lines anymore! I sent over a combination of pictures and asked to get the icing from one cake, the strawberries from another, and flowers like X, and they really delivered. They were also quick to respond and easy to work with. I also appreciated that they offered delivery service options. On the day of the wedding, I didn't have to worry about the cake at all. They delivered to the venue and it was just setup and ready to go for me.
