I love simple Simon's. So delicious. My favorite thing is the grilled chicken pesto sandwich I love it. Be prepared for large crowds and busy lunch times. If you order for pick up, they'll have your food ready for you to just come by. You can pay online so you don't have to wait. I've always had a great experience here and enjoy coming whether it be for dine in or to go orders. Just thinking about it makes me want to go there lol. Yum. Nothing too fancy but definitely a great place to dine. People are always friendly and although they maybe busy it's worth the wait. They're busy because it's good. Highly recommend. read more

Worst brunch I've ever had. After 4 years of hearing hype about this place, I decided to check it out. Big mistake, how does this place have 4 stars? I left wanting a refund for my way-too-expensive meal. We ordered OJ, coffee, a chicken sausage hand pie, French toast, and the spinach and bacon omelette. Coffee was fine. Orange juice was so deeply bitter we had to send it back and order chai, which tasted like sugary milk. The chicken sausage hand pie was so sweet that it tasted like someone had put actual sugar in it. It was a really unsettling flavor with the chicken. We ended up picking off the puff pastry and eating it. The French toast was simply awful. It was completely bland and seemed to have not been soaked at all. The middle was absolutely dry and the French toast was so hard I had to eat it with my hands. It was pretty much flavorless fried bread with sugar. I thought I could at least eat the side of bacon, but even that was flavorless, hard and greasy. The omelette was ok, but nothing worth the price. It was basically a sheet of folded up egg on top of the fillings which was a little weird, and the flavor wasn't anything I would desire to eat again. The potatoes that came with it were crisp but flavorless. Nothing on this plate was salted! That is so ridiculous. Overall, would never come back here again. Service was great, but food was terrible. Hoping someone reaches out to me for a refund. Something went terribly wrong this morning, we were left SO confused about the great ratings for this place. For an almost $15 sandwich I would expect more out of a sandwich. One slice of turkey "weighed out" with a bunch of lettuce and arugula. When I got my sandwich I thought it was a mistake. So I asked the lady at the register if this was correct. I was told everything is weighed out and "it may just be bunched up". I showed her my open faced sandwich there was not bunched up meat on it. I came in with my girlfriend to pick up my pre-ordered birthday pie and a few tarts on Friday morning (8/11) around 10:45am. During that time we also picked up a bear claw and a cheese danish. I have a tree nut allergy but can eat almonds. The bear claw sign read "contains almonds". I also asked the woman at the front counter if there were any other nuts besides almonds and she replied "no, only almonds. " I took a bite of the bear claw and immediately started to get an allergic reaction. My girlfriend went back up to the counter to ask if there were other nuts in the bear claw and the cashier went back to the kitchen to ask. It turns out there were actually walnuts that were not labeled on the sign and none of the front of the house employees knew. I went into anaphylactic shock and spent the next 22hrs in the ICU at the Riverside Community Hospital. I left the hospital on Saturday afternoon (8/12) and went straight back to Simple Simon's where the staff was overly apologetic and gave me the number of the owner. I called one of the managers/owners, Karina Cortez, who was dismissive and seemed to not understand the severity of the situation. I have received my California Food Handlers Certificate 3 times after working in the food industry for over 6 years so I understand the importance of labeling food borne allergens. When I mentioned this to Karina she seemed to not understand that she is breaking state and federal food and safety guidelines. Karina was dismissive and not helpful in any way, from the tone in her voice to the responses to my questions and statements, I did not feel like Karina cared nor did she understand the gravity of the situation. She blamed the issue on her employees and I simply told her that the buck stops at you. Your employees actions and subsequent mistakes are a reflection on your management practices. My girlfriend was born and raised in Riverside and had been coming to Simple Simons for their princess cakes for all their special occasions and birthdays. We will never again step foot in Simple Simons due to lack of integrity and honesty from the owner, Karina Cortez. Attached is a normal picture of me as well as a picture of me as I got to the hospital with my throat almost fully constricted. After needing my 3rd epinephrine shot in the ICU my heart started racing, every pore in my body opened and started pouring with sweat, I got tunnel vision, and lost my hearing. Having 9 doctors and nurses surround me and my girlfriend to my left looking on in fear, I honestly believed I was going to die in that moment. All of this could have been prevented if Karina Cortez emphasized to her employees how the little things they do can have a long and lasting impact on those that they serve. I am lucky to have great health insurance but think about those who are not as fortunate and the massive burden this can put on a family! read more

I can't explain how much I love this place!!! I only get to have it when I'm at work since it's far from where I live but everytime I get it feels like a treat. I get Gina's vegetarian, and I promise to get a picture next time. I only eat sandwiches that are worth eating: - The sandwich has to have the right bread, fresh bread that is not too soft or too hard. - The ingredients have to be fresh and make sense together. - The spread or sauce has to be homemade ( at least taste like it) with no added junk. And I'm not talking about mustard or mayo. - The sandwich has to be bigger than my mouth to the point where I have to eat from the corner. - If it's not messy and makes me wipe my face after every bite I don't want it. - The sandwich has to make you feel special. Like you're in a world where it's just you and your delicious sandwich and nothing else matters. This place checks off every single condition on this list! This is a very quaint bakery/bistro/deli in downtown Riverside. My sister actually was the one who introduced me to this place. The sandwiches here are fantastic, and their ranch is one of the best I've ever had. My sister loves the veggie sandwich. I got the pastrami and it was really great. It was nice and hot, Smokey, fatty. It looks simple but its very indulgent. I always want to come back and try their other sandwiches as well. You can find street parking around. The food is always great, the service not so much! I have been 3-4 times and the last two times I went, the service was very slooooooowww. Last time the person at the front had those in line waiting while she took phone orders. Seemed maybe someone else should take the phone orders since the line was three deep with more people arriving. So, this time I figured I would order by phone and then pickup. However, I called maybe six or more times and no answer, voicemail full. I then went there and there was no one in line. Great! I walk right up and place my order. Thirty minutes later, still waiting on a salad and a soup. After inquiring, learned that the soup ran out and they were waiting on the kitchen. It sure would have been nice to know this...I maybe could have been offered an alternative. Anyhow, she goes to check and bring out more soup. I then watch her struggle to put a lid on it. She tries the first, second, and then forces the third lid on. The girl applying the lids then asks another person what the problem is "is it the heat?" She is told "no, that lid does not go with that container." I express my concern after watching the struggle as I do not want soup all over my car, to which she replies that the lid has been placed on tightly and won't spill. I see that the container have been forced to bend so that the lid would fit and again express my concern, but am told the same. She did offer an extra soup to make up for the time I spent waiting. So, I go back to my workplace 40 minutes later (yes, I waited 40 minutes for soup and salad) to find the soup has spilled all over the bag. So disappointing! read more

We ordered quickly, and received our food quickly but the food was burnt, and not much for the price ( see picture ). The toast was hard and potatoes were burnt. I don't normally give one star reviews. But I was really insulted when I came to visit. I found this place on Instagram and it looked amazing. I grabbed a friend and went with them talking this place up. We got there roughly 40 minutes before closing. It looked good from observance and I was excited to order a sandwich. I asked the worker what did he recommended and he said he doesn't know. Then we asked the girl what she recommended and she gave a couple recommendations. So my friend and I decided to go with the recommendation the guy worker said they stop serving food 30 minutes before close. Absolutely insulted. Not once did they say they were not serving food or were about to stop serving and let us sit there contemplating what to order. I work in the food industry and not once do we stop serving food until we close. Even then customers have the right to stay later. But to be sent away 30 minutes before closing is WRONG!!! I will never come to this place and I tell everyone how I was treated. Absolutely Disgusting. read more

I've eaten here often in years past and enjoyed my meals. Today I dropped in and ordered off their Sunday Brunch menu--"French toast made with our sourdough bread." What arrived was two huge floppy thin slabs of humid bread. Humid is not a texture I recommend, but it seemed intentional, not just the cook having a bad day. The bland taste did nothing to help. Even the syrup was uninspired. It tasted like brown corn syrup with a little butter flavor and something else, not sure what. I'll never give a bad review for something that comes from a bad day or is just an irritant. This was food that came out as planned, that had no business being on that plate. This is why I'm giving two stars--if you don't like French toast, don't put it on the menu. read more

But I recommend eating inside because we had lunch at the tables outside and being in Downtown there was a homeless guy who pooped himself and he was just hanging around us. All the guests were uncomfortable because we were eating and it smelled alot and it was very visible too so it ruined our appetite. I wish there was security in that area. It's a little over priced, and it seems like the workers always recommend the more expensive options as their favorites/ or the better option, but I'm starting to get the drift that they are only up-selling. I like the feel inside the restaurant, but it can also get very busy and loud. So you can expect a longer time waiting than other places. This swap meet runs along Simon's doorstep every Saturday morning and is the perfect spot to pick up fresh fruit, vegetables, and blooming bouquets of flowers. Simon's is the definition of a local business, and comes a with a ton of charm. The inside is relatively small, with one or two tables. Outside is a nice patio to sit with your furry friend and get some much needed vitamin D. I decided to build my own 6-inch sandwich: a french roll stuffed with turkey, cheese, mayo, sprouts, and tomato. Each meal comes with a side, including choices like a fruit cup, potato salad, pasta salad, or soup. I chose potato salad, which was mixed with crunchy bacon! The meal was definitely on the more expensive side ($8 for half a sandwich and side), but the ingredients taste so fresh you know you made a good choice! read more
