The ramen here is velvety and rich. Perfect for a chilly fall day after a walk in Central Park. The place is tiny so you may have to wait 10 minutes or so but it's well worth it. I've eaten at Simply Noodles quite a few times in the past two years and the experience has always been excellent. The people are lovely, the service prompt and the food is tasty as can be. I'm particularly fond of the pork buns and the Dan Dan noodles. My friend often takes one of their big noodle bowls with lots of yummy broth. Consider this review a placeholder. We've been only once, but intend to go again. Soup dumplings were small (but more structurally stable than larger ones (thanks to physics); decently thin-skinned; and filled a small amount of soup and firm (not overly velveted / processed) innards. These were pretty good, among the better ones we've tried on the UWS, not by far the best in NYC. A salad of wood ear mushroom was quite basic, but pleasant enough. By the way, don't be turned off by the name if you aren't already familiar with this stuff. "Wood ear" (sometimes called the possibly even more alarming "black fungus") is NOT mushroomy and does not have the "fleshy" texture that some find off-putting when it comes to mushrooms. Instead, wood-ear has the loveliest crisp-tender texture. It's delicate in taste and texture, a mouthful of refined fun when properly prepared. I personally prefer spicier versions, i.e. as found at the western Chinese restaurants that are all the rage now in NYC. But Simply Noodle serves a good starter version for kiddos and spice wimps. I got my mycophobic littles to admit this dish was "okay". :) I would never have ordered cheesy shrimp balls of my own accord (I'm old fashioned and don't fully understand the appeal of seafood with dairy -- except possibly butter), but one of the littles requested them, so there we went. I found them interesting from a Hong Kong fusion-y perspective. Probably not a repeat for me personally, though, since Velveeta / Velveeta-like products are not my thing. Service: Accommodating, lovely, kind to all comers regardless of background. The woman and man working on the evening of our visit were... elegant I think is the best word. They were so accommodating and helpful and carried themselves with dignity and grace. It's not a balance that's always easy to strike under the circumstances. It's a tiny, bustling restaurant. We plan to come back to try the ramen and rice noodle soups... and that molten coconut lava something my older one has set his sights on! read more

Small intimate restaurant with limited seating. They specialize in crossing bridge rice noodle and there's a mural that explains the story behind the noodles. I got the Mala rice noodles with pork. The noodles was delicious, perfectly chewy, and the broth was very flavorful. The spice level is not too bad either. The noodles came in a stone bowl that keeps it hot so even at the end of my meal the broth was still warm. Food was 10/10. Service was quick and attentive. My cousin and I decided to stop here for lunch before our trip to the Grand Bazaar for their Sunday spring market. We arrived around 1pm and there was a 10-15 minute wait to get seated. The store is quite small and the interior is very simple. Once seated, our order was taken right away and we were served promptly. The food was very good and flavorful, and nothing was disappointing. I did want to order the tornado potato though, which isn't on the formal menu but is on a taped sheet of paper on the wall and they told me they were sold out. I'm not sure if it's a temporary thing or if it's gone or they are not planning to prepare this on certain days. The seating area is small, but we walked in for dinner on a busy Saturday evening at peak dinner time and it was only about a 15 minute wait. We had the chili oil peanut sauce dumplings, scallion oil noodles with mushroom, and the mala noodle soup pot. The dumplings were delicious, and the chili oil peanut butter sauce always hits the spot. The scallion oil noodles had strong umami flavor but was not overly greasy. Highly recommend the mala rice noodle soup if you like mala flavored dishes - the noodles were tender and "slippery", the soup was spicy and had plenty of peppercorns, and the portion was generous (though I still finished it and walked out with a noodle food baby). First off I want to give customer service five stars. The customer service was excellent, and I say this because I didn't feel odd or uncomfortable because I was dining by myself or because I was in a different ethnicity (that wasn't my own) restaurant. I ordered the soup dumplings a.k.a Xiao Long BAO, spicy crispy chicken wings, and Dandan Noodles. Everything and I mean everything was delicious. The wings were light and crispy with some amazing sauce served with them. I had to get me another order of wings to take home and they remained crispy because they put the sauce on the side. The Dandan Noodles were spicy and super delicious. My daughter helped me finish the rest at home and was requesting that I take her on my next visit. The main event was my dumplings. Delicious, hot, juicy, meaty. Really good flavor. The prices were great as well. The reason for my five stars is because my overall experience was great. Anytime I can visit a restaurant alone and still get greeted, taken to a table, served like they want to come again, get five stars in my book. By the way the decor of this place is very nice.
