Short: Found this new favorite Vietnamese/tapioca spot last week and have been coming here a little too much. The people here are very nice and the food is fresh and smoothies are so good. I've been taking friends here to try. Best of all, everything is so cheap! Parking can be challenging. Elaborate: With their small menu, they mastered every item on the list.The store is tucked in a rundown shopping center but the interior is so cute and chic right down to the bathroom! I do wish the parking situation is a little better, it's very hard to find during lunch time. The shop is very small, you can only fit 14 people, so don't bring all your friends plz!! I'm still keeping this place a secret from my coworkers!! Haha. You can also call ahead to order and pick them up. Vermicelli bowl with pork - it's my comfort food and this place has it right on the money. Plus, it's already in a Togo container so you can take your left over home Rice with grilled chicken + egg - you can add a few ingredients for a little bit more money. I added egg for 75 cents, worth it. They give you a good amount of food. All for a little over $5. Smoothie - based on taste, they seem to use real ingredients, not the fake powdered stuff. We were looking for something on the way and this happened to be it. Fairly new place with a nice clean, open feel. I placed our order for 2 drinks with the girl but she had trouble understanding what I meant when I asked if it was possible to mix the mango and passion fruit, so she grabbed a guy from the back. Ordered the 2nd drink and he told me the total was $3 something. Wait what? No, drinks aren't crazy cheap here, somehow she didn't catch the first drink. Finally re-ordered, paid and then waited. There was a customer before me and I assumed they ordered a lot which is why the wait was so long. But for some reason, even after waiting a long long while, my drinks were first. Got to the car and drove off. That's when I realized my green tea wasn't properly sealed :( so sticky tea all over my lap. Due to this mishap, I had to just sip tea from the hole for a bit. When I finally was able to get a straw in, I took a sip and almost spit it out. Agghhhh! I forgot that since there was a hole, I didn't shake it as usual. So all of the concentrated (and for some reason warm) syrup was on the bottom. After stirring it sufficiently the drink was pretty tasty. But boy...it took us awhile to get there!! I was super excited to eat here since it's on the way home. I was so disappointed... The cashier could bearly understand, I asked for extra meat and jalapeños and I didn't get neither even though I paid extra for it. I ordered chili oil and soy sauce, I even asked the lady if they were in the bag and I was assured they were, but nothing was there. I also ordered a mango green tea, it was too sweet. I visited Simply Viet after my eyebrow threading appointment and I was craving bubble tea. Luckily this place was less than half a mile. The space was clean and service was quick and efficient. I ordered the honey green tea with tapioca and two sandwiches - chicken and pork. At $3.50 a pop they were delicious and filled with the right amount of pickled carrots, radishes and cucumbers on a crispy bun. The honey tea was good but a little sweet for me. Their tea is pretty meh. They never have black milk tea when I come. If you get a thai tea, ask for it to be extra sweet. Otherwise, it's just bitter. I wish they had more variety for drinks. Banh mis are obvs good. They have a small option for the veggie banh mi but it's only 50 cents less than the beef so just stick with beef. This has to be the best Vietnamese cafe to open in a long time. Their banh mi is simply exceptional, up there with my 2-3 favorite shops in the city. Very consistent too, which I sadly can't say about other top places. I can always trust that all the ingredients will be fresh, meat cooked just right, bread toasted perfectly, and so on. And the staff is so ridiculously friendly too, I just can't help but come back week after week for my banh mi fix. Add a clean, modern decor and English only menu, and you get like the antithesis of the old school banh mi shop. Like their name suggests, they keep it simple with a menu of only grilled meats - beef, pork, and chicken. You won't find cold cuts or pate here. Each meat is char-grilled with its own marinade, cooked tender and juicy with ample smoky goodness. The grilled beef and chicken are the best I've had, period, and the grilled pork might just be barely edged out by Nguyen Ngo or Phi Coffee & Tea as my favorite. I love em all, but I'd single out the beef as the most mouth-watering. They use a high grade cut of steak that's quite fatty but sooo rich and delicious. The second thing that stands out is their bread. It's a familiar baguette (sourced from Parisian Bakery I'd guess), very fluffy and chewy with a thin, beautiful golden crust. Other shops use high quality bread like this too but often serve it stale (Nguyen Ngo) or erratically toasted (Alpha Bakery + many others). Not so here :D always very fresh and toasted to a bare crisp. The rest of the sandwich follows the classic banh mi without flaw. A good portion of cilantro, cucumbers, and lightly pickled carrots/daikon, all fresh as can be. A little soy sauce, pepper, and their homemade spread that seems to be a whole-egg mayo cut with butter. It's creamy, rich, and spread just enough to taste but not overpower. I heard they have avocado mayo too, which I'd definitely like to try sometime. I can also vouch for their rice plates (just grilled meat w/ raw veggies and soy/fish sauce) but really, it's all about the banh mi here. It is a couple minutes away from all the popular places on Bellaire, but 100% worth the drive. read more

I've visited this place several times since its opening and its a good Bahn mi place if you are looking for something close. I would NOT make a trip here if it were more than 10 miles away. The service is ok, the people are friendly but a little standoffish. May be due to the language barrier, but the place feels very inviting and I want to like it so much, yet it still falls short. As I said, the service is ok, and it doesn't help that they always take long. Seems as If there are only two or three people max working. The Bahn mi's are good but I always feel like they are missing something. Like I said, they are good if you are in the area and are really craving some Bahn mi, but not good for you to drive from somewhere far to come try. So I have to say the bahn mi is the best ever!! I have had a lot of bahn mi and most times there is something that they could improve. But this sandwich had the perfect bread and perfectly cooked meat with super fresh vegetables. It was amazing! This small Vietnamese shop looks out of place in the Hispanic strip mall, but stands out in their delicious meals. Their food is reasonably priced, cheaper than similar Viet restaurants, and just the right size for lunch. Their sandwich bread is more like the bollilos I get from HEB, so it's softer on my gums. Some banh mi places toast their bread into hard bricks, so I appreciate the change in firmness here. Called in about 15 minutes before to pick up two sandwiches, a vermicelli bowl, and a honey green tea for my family. I arrived a little earlier and they already had everything ready for me. It's a small place... simple, clean, and had seating for no more than 12-15 people it seemed. I wouldn't recommend bringing large groups here.
