My boyfriend and I have been here a few times before the new ownership and just once, yesterday, after. Delicious food and drinks as always, even with the change of ownership. My taco was a special and ocd'ish request and the waitress got it right! My drink was a little watery but still flavorful. The decor was off and looked very generic and empty but I'm assuming they're still moving in, so to speak. That doesn't bother me so much but I did feel a change in scenery immediately upon entering. I'm only withholding a star because the price hike on the plates was drastic. A dollar rise is understandable but a $4 rise is a bit much. For what we had we normally would have paid around $40 maybe even $50 but yesterday we paid nearly $80 and we ate the same things and had our usual drinks that we ate in the past. We have been coming to Sinaloa's for years and always have had excellent service. Even during shelter in place, they had our order for a family of four ready in 15 minutes with a couple Cadillac margaritas to-go! We got home, surprised with chips and all the salsa you could dream of. read more

My recommendation is hit up LAS ISABELAS a few blocks down the street where the food is authentic and half the price. Wow, this may be the lowest rating I've ever given. And I've given a LOT! The ONLY redeeming quality of this place during my visit was the cheery/eventually sympathetic bartender/server. My boss and I walked in during our lunch break. We are remodeling a home in the area and were looking for another Mexican alternative. We had been to Cocos, and Jesus' and I'll be yelping them (BOTH are SO much better than this place) as well. When we walked into Sinaloa, I noticed a bright atmosphere with a few smiles from workers and what seemed to be a manager/boss telling us to pull up a seat wherever we wanted. Great, I love that, We sat at the Bar, because they had ESPN on so it's a win win. The whole place had maybe 3 other people in the entire restaraunt and they were all at the expansive bar and seemed to know the gentleman that told us to sit where we wanted. They had a "biker" look to them. But being in construction, my boss and I probably had fouler mouths than the other group. There was one heavily tattood woman that was our server. She was friendly and PROMPT. I just want people to know that this is the only major area this restaurant does good in. I ordered my go to first item that I always judge Mexican restaurants. A CARNE ASADA BURRITO! The only problem is that this place does NOT offer carne asada. they offer shredded beef...... Wow. I've been in CA, for a LONG time and have never witnessed a "Mexican food" restaurant that DOESN'T OFFER CARNE ASADA!, That's an instant minus star for me. How can you call yourself a Mexican restaurant and not offer carne asada as a meat option. It's like going to a pizzaria and not being to be able to order pepperoni. Even TACO BELL (nasty) offers steak! So here is the deal with ordering a burrito from this place. PLEASE READ THIS if you do not read anything else. if you want a burrito, you do not simply say that you want a super burrito. You order the BASIC burrito which contains EXACTLY TORTILLA AND MEAT FOR $8.00. Yeas, EIGHT DOLLARS US! If you DARE want "toppings/fillers you MUST pay $1.00-$1.50 for such fillers as LETTUCE! ! So the food comes out. I had ONE super burrito as ordered on a plate with ZERO garnish. I HATE parsley, but just one sprig would have livened up my plate. The tortilla was VERY noticeably old. It looks like the ones I find at the bottom of my fridge when I clean it! TRUST ME, I KNOW an old tortilla. I've never received such a tortilla from ANY restaurant in my life. My boss got a chile rellano and it looked equally un-appetizing. I ate it at this point because I was hungry and time was ticking to get back to work. I didn't eat so many chips because I was excited to eat a super burrito and wanted to have room! OH HOW WRONG I WAS! The fillings were bland at best. It tasted like something that you would get from a senior center. I had to dowse it with salt and the salsa that came with the chips. You are not offered any bottled hot sauce such as Tapatio or La Victoria during your visit. This was probably the worst food I've eaten in a long time. And I'm serious. It REALLY was terrible. The bartender was great and asked how the food was and I said it was "oooookay" she said she was sorry and if I wanted to return it or exchange it. I was so hungry and pressed for time that I said no. As a side note, my boss said his food was equally bland. I am sorry to say this, but PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. I have stayed away from this place for years and for good reason, the food in my estimation was horrible. A place primarily known for its ultra stiff drinks so you'd forget what lousy food you just consumed. Well I was challenged by a friend to try the place again since changes had been made, and he felt the food had improved. The food had improved. In some areas it had improved to a point I would order the Cameron Vallarta again, it was tasty but the prawns were a bit over cooked and tough. l but I liked the sauce a lot. The refried beans and rice were standard gringo stuff that was disappointing. We ordered the camaron salad, that was delicious with the prawns very tasty but again over cooked. I ordered the fresh cooked donuts for desert. Terrible. They came out hard and the vanilla ice cream was old as it had lots of ice crystals in it. I asked for my money back on that one. Would I go back, maybe just to try another cameron dish. For a Hispanic flavored restaurant I prefer something like Aquis that is creative and a bit more exciting. read more

The old Sinaloa was a Morgan Hill treasure, however, this location has been a consistent disappointment. Been there several times since the fire & the move to the new location, and I always leave unimpressed. Stopped in tonight for dinner & it was more of the same. The service is indifferent (not rude, but certainly not friendly), the atmosphere is bland, the bartender lacked any energy, the food came out very slow, and the steak fajitas were mediocre at best. I really don't know how they stay in business, but it's time to put some energy back into the atmosphere, liven up the staff, & freshen up the food. Either that or sell the business to someone that cares. We were in a group of 5 adults & no one had anything nice to say about the experience at Sinaloa tonight. If you look at the reviews here, you will find that almost all of them refer to their great Margaritas. Sinaloa, themselves, advertise in the local paper and Out and About "the Best Margaritas in Town!" Now, I must ask, if your specialty and what you build your restaurant on is your Mexican FOOD menu, why on earth would you focus on your Margaritas?? Why would you NOT focus on advertising how great your FOOD is? Unless your food is below average and you want people to be drawn in by your Margaritas.... Well, that's exactly what Sinaloa has done. Their food IS below average and, frankly, tasteless. Their refried beans have no flavor whatsoever. How can you ruin refried beans?! If you want Flavorful Mexican food, drive half a mile and go to Jesus Mexican on Third Street, and have a margarita someplace else. I don't drink, so Margaritas are no draw for me. I'm not a Morgan HIll "Local" but on the way back from Gilroy outlets we WERE STARVING and literally stopped at this restaurant with our fingers crossed that the 4 stars on YELP actually were true----that turned out to be FALSE TASTE: THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THIS REVIEW THE FOOD SUCKS!!! From the STALE CHIPS sitting in piles of baskets on top of each other(unsanitary)the plastic bottom of the baskets touch the tops of the next set of chips yuck! under a warm lamp to the overly heated plates filled with tons of beans and rice and small entrees. I ordered the flautas dinner, my fiancé ordered the two taco dinner, and we ordered our toddler the quesdailla kids meal. You would of thought all we ordered was beans and rice because they took up 95% of the serving. I actually would be fine with that if the beans and rice were any good. They are NOT GOOD afterwords... if you know what I mean. The true test of a Mexican restaurant are the beans and rice. They are a Mexican staple and very easy to make if you mess that up you may as well close up shop and start from square one. The ONLY highlight from the kitchen (if its even made there) was their house salsa. LOOK: the place needs major decor upgrades its run down with the floor appearing uneven in some spots even slanted down. Also the busing area where chips and salsa and water are refilled is in the dining area and almost appears to be self serve. I felt like I was on an episode of kitchen nightmares from all the bad decor to the unsanitary conditions. FEEL: The place feels like a time warp back to a time I HOPE real people never inhabited. DRINKS: We ordered cokes which were like a watered down version of coke and sprite. I drank my water instead. SERVICE: Our first waitress was nice but she left us to tend to a party of 20 without letting us know. The second waitress who took over our abandoned table was sweet and courteous. Are you kidding me Morgan Hill? You are so close to San Jose and Gilroy and you cannot come up with some decent places to get some good Mexican food and drinks? We came here for lunch this past Saturday and figured we would try it out. We were looking for another restaurant but decided that the walking was making us hungry plus we saw they served margaritas here so we went on inside. It was pretty empty the seating at the bar was full however. The hostess told us to wait to see if there was a table ready. Table ready? There were two tables full out of at least 15. That put me off right from the get. So we get seated 8 minutes later at the window. Nice day, window to the street not a bad choice on their part. We get menus and see a waitress walking towards us and couldn't wait to get a drink. But wait she walked right past us. Damn I am thirsty and wanted a drink. Too long of a wait later she finally comes over and asks if she can get us something to drink. We ordered 2 Sinaloa margaritas and someone orders a Midori margarita. Chips and Salsa came to the table but we were still waiting on drinks. Good thing someone else dropped off some water cups. The chips are not good but the salsa is excellent, just enough spice and chunkiness. The drinks arrive we order our food and take that first sip. I think there is a mistake. We wanted tequila in the drinks for $6,50 there better be some tequila in here. They tasted like Triple Sec and mix. And I am not a tequila fan so I wasn't looking for a strong drink, but damn for $6.50 there should at least be half a shot. ** I forgot to tell you the whole time we were sitting in the window seat there was this nasty fly stalking us. It was unappetizing to say the least. ** Food comes out in seriously 4 minutes. We ordered she went back and grabbed the plates. It was amazing and scary at the same time. Is all the food pre-cooked? The rice had a decent flavor; the beans were beans, the chili verde - nothing special. Now it's not the worst I have ever had but certainly wasn't too good either. The enchiladas my friend had was a canned sauce and the tortilla was rubbery. The burrito by other friend had was decent she didn't have any complaints - then again she doesn't complain like I do. Oh yeah and the $4.50 guacamole was packaged. YES! FROM A BAG. No joke its bright green and doesn't taste at all like an avocado. We asked for that to be removed from the bill. We have not been to Sinaloas in 4 or 5 years, decided to try it on a rainy Sunday. They seriously need to look for new cooks, first the salsa tasted like catsup with Tabasco sauce, ordered huevous ranchero which, last time I checked my recipe is served on top of a corn tortilla red sauce. I've never seen a crash and burn like I have seen at SINALOA CAFE. They used to be the jewel of Morgan Hill dining. Now, just a shell of their former selves. The last five years or so, it has been a steady decline. The wait is long, the service poor, the food mediocre, and now accepts cash only. My husband and I have been going to Sinaloa's for decades. Unfortunately, the food was going downhill long before the restaurant sold. Our food was always cold and the chips were stale. We had dinner twice in the past 2 weeks since the new owners and new menu started, and we were very unhappy with our dinners. The prices skyrocketed, the portions are small. My chile relleno was so tough, I couldn't even cut it with a knife. The shredded beef flautas tasted like tasteless mushy meat. The chile verde sauce was watery. I grew up in Morgan Hill, where Sinaloa's is an institution. I must be honest, that my current opinion of them since they moved to their new spot is mixed. The upside - they still know how to make a damn good margarita, their chips and salsa are good and plentiful and I find the service to be friendly. The downside - the new place is definitely lacking in charm and I think a lot of the food is just mediocre and very heavy and that you can definitely find better Mexican in south bay. To sum it up, if you are looking for a good drink, it's the spot to hit, it you are craving good Mexican, you might want to look elsewhere. read more

So not worth the hype!! Went to Sinaloa last night with my husband, parents and two cousins from Germany so they could experience "real" Mexican food for the first time. I was actually embarrassed by how bad the food was. We had to keep telling them during the night..."this is not real Mexican food". The salsa has NO flavor, the chips are at best from Taco Bell and the food lacked any real flavor. I ordered shrimp tacos and I had to hunt through to even find a shrimp and then when I did they were the smallest shrimp I have ever seen. One good thing about this place is the drinks. I'm so sad. Sinaloa has been a hot spot since they got new owners la year or so ago. Tonight, we had the worst service. The kids entrees arrived 20 minutes after everyone else's meal. Our server should have come to us to inform us that they had issues with the fryer and offered alternative options rather than leave us waiting and wondering. Their menu has changed, no longer serving premium beers. No longer dancing on Saturday nights. Brought the chips out and the first batch tasted very stale. The salsa tasted like straight enchilada sauce. The second batch was better and we got a dish of chunky salsa that was a bit better. Wifey and I ordered the chile relleno and burrito combo to split (on a budget) and a corona for me and a blue margarita. The chile was bland and tough to cut. A friend convinced me to give Sinaloa another try. He said that they have improved and have managed to recapture the quality of the old place. Let me first say that our server Christian was a sweetheart. She was very happy and simply a joy to be around. She took very good care of us. We ordered a couple of margaritas, they were excellent. They have perfected the art of making margaritas. I only wish the food was as good as the service and the drinks. Sadly my food was just not that good. I ordered a Chili Colorado burrito enchilada style, rice and beans. The burrito was bland, not flavorful at all, the beans were luke warm and tasted like lard, the rice was mushy. My wife ordered a taco, chili verde burrito combo. She did not complain, but only ate a few bites and packed it up to go. The chips were stale and the salsa was bland. My co-workers and I have been coming here for years but recently it seems the establishment is on a long, slow decline. Over the past few months we've noticed our food taking longer and longer to come out, the portions getting smaller and smaller and some of our experiences have just been sub-par. On our most recent trip we weren't offered chips and salsa, which is a bummer but not the end of the world. But instead of being told, "sorry, we're out of chips today" we were given an excuse about the chips being cooked, then that the fryer oil wasn't hot (even though we ordered the deep fried burritos). What's worse, the soup bowls are now half the size they used to be (that's not an exaggeration, we even ordered a soup to go because I wasn't full and it came in the quart instead of the pint to-go container yet they still charged full pint price! Yikes--what a disgrace to restaurants in general, and Mexican food in particular! The food was even worse than before, and the service has not improved at all! Food- bland and dripping grease, verde had this red sauce that tasted like old cigarette ashes. I thought Verde sauce was supposed to be green. Service- what service! I mean the waitress took the order and eventually came back with the above mentioned plate of congealed grease that looked like food. Then had to be reminded to bring our drinks. I never got my water, we didn't get drink refills. When we were finished the waitstaff were all sitting at a table laughing and talking we had to waive at her to get her attention. Well, a not busy place on Cinco de Mayo... was worried. But it was next to the Chase ATM so I figured why not?? The BEST chicken taquitos I've EVER had, and I have had a lot of taquitos. It makes me sad to write a less-than-positive review of Sinaloa. I grew up on their food (and graduated to their margaritas, for a while). I love Steve. He is the real deal. My parents used to stop at Sinaloa after their hard-core hikes, for a delish lunch and a marg before blissing out in recovery. I wouldn't know the pleasures of Sinaloa if not for them. A few summers ago, a friend called us at our vacation in the islands when the place burned down. She knew that the restaurant was part of our family life. They know me and my family on sight. But the food quality truly has gone downhill. Post-fire, the enchilada sauce grew inconsistent, but we kept coming for the amazing shredded beef in the beef tacos. The rice is still excellent (why the he** can't I find the recipe for such delicious rice?!). But as the prices went up and more often than not the ench sauce was sharp and metallic (suggesting quick-cooking instead of the days of simmering of old), rather than rich and smooth, we stayed in the valley and took our business to Tlaquepaque. Our loyalty/optimism kept us coming back for two more years, but three weeks ago, we reached the end of the line. The shredded beef in the tacos was tasteless. The enchilada sauce was spicy but shallow. Service was impersonal, and the food quality was not good enough to make up the difference. I miss what Sinaloa *was*. I'm sure they will survive, as there is always a market for strong margaritas and decent Mexican food, but it sure ain't what it used to be. We won't be back. IB read more

If you like the standard heavy (lard) style Mexican food then Sinaloa's is as good as any small family owned taqueria. Not much flavor and you feel like they are doing you a favor just by allowing you to eat there. The food is outstanding. Especially like the enchiladas guajillos and the enchiladas mole unique to this restaurant. Their margaritas are the best and they have a large variety of flavors. My wife really liked the watermelon margarita. Servers were really helpful and friendly. The bathrooms were really clean. A big plus for me! read more
