A wonderful shop that's a must when visiting or passing through Ventura. The coffee is excellent and fairly-priced. Their speciality drinks look amazing as well! I can't wait to try the turmeric latte when I'm next there. I especially appreciate the precautions they took for COVID. I've been in several times. I enjoy doing my work in the quiet of the coffee shop. Have always enjoyed the coffee shop. Today I came in as usual, paid and tipped the barista. I received my coffee, took a sip and sat down in my usual corner spot. I then was asked to go outside. I was denied access today with my service animal. Cameron the manager on duty was very snarky and rude. She proceeded to tell me these were the "rules" & told me I couldn't have him in there. I showed her my documentation for him. She continued to tell me to leave so I then asked for a refund of my coffee that I had a sip of. She told me she couldn't refund me since I took a sip of it already. & I asked again for a refund. she then said she would call the police if I didn't leave. I left. Price wise, espresso drinks will be a steep price once you request a dairy free milk or if ordering a specialty drink item. My main suggestion comes in relation to the baked goods. They commonly feature the same selection of muffin/cookie baked items and I have found it difficult to get a gluten free option. Rad little coffee shop in midtown. Awesome little walking spot for neighbors and for visitors around. This isnt a starbucks or a donut shop this is how coffee snobs drink their coffee so if your not into that kind of vibe dont go but if your like me and like to balance your hood with your bougie then come on down. I appreciate the service, friendly and attentive and fairly quick. I will say, the taste was about average, but the signature or most popular coffee drink was really not that tasty even if I went with what the barista recommended. I know, sometimes the palate is different, but maybe this place works for the local crowd of a small town. Great shop, great location in mid town ventura. Those windows - they bring so much light in, the name of shop is oh-so fitting. The seats near the windows are like no other in town, so much action outside to observe. The columbian pourover I ordered was great and I could tell much effort was put into the craft. Gave this place a few visits. Boring decor. Boring coffee. Rude employees. Here is my example of a rude employee. I order drink. I pay for drink. Employee tilts screen with tip options toward me so that I may "...complete the transaction, please." Employee walks away, never to return or say another word to me again. I am unaware my drink is ready and I am waiting for employee to communicate that transaction is, indeed, completed. I walk to the pick up area where I encounter another employee. I notice a jug of milk sitting next to what may be my drink. I comment to second employee "I'm wondering if this is my drink." She states "I don't know," and hides with first employee behind taller display case/employee hiding spot. I grab drink and walk out. I am still wondering if it was my drink as everything at this "café" is questionable. Mediocre and overpriced at best. read more

My wife had the oat milk latte. It was creamy and smooth. Our kids enjoyed one of their delicious looking pastries. Solid spot! Would definitely go back and try some more pastries and coffee. On all 3 of my visits my pour overs have been delivered warm, not hot. I have asked multiple people that have ordered pour overs there if they had the same experience and it seems to be a common occurrence. I am unsure if this is done on purpose, or if there is an issue with the water being used. I do know that one of the many factors in cup of coffees flavor profile is the temperature of the water used during the extraction. Maybe Singing Sun prefers extracting with lower temp water as opposed to just off boil in order to achieve preferred results? Something else that has crossed my mind is the current flood of business they are receiving due to being new. Maybe the water does not have the time to heat up? Definitely in search for an answer. Sightglass is an amazing roaster and I do love having their roasts as an option in town, but the 2nd half of my cup being cold by the time I get to it is a turn off. read more

One of the best coffee shops I've been to in a while. Employees take care of us every morning when going on our runs. Coffee is great and served in a time efficient manner. I recently was witnessed an incident where an entitled costumer forced her way into the shop to demand coffee. Employees looked like they were trying to deescalate the situation which lead to the customer getting visibly more and more agitated. The customer ended up getting her drink, still before the store officially opened. Talk about entitlement. Anyways, the employees did their best, and my coffee was amazing. Left a big tip. There aren't as many really high quality specialty coffee options in Ventura, but looking beyond the California and Main neighborhood, I stumbled upon Singing Sun. Upon walking in, the atmosphere is delightful. A simple, non-busy design scheme features clean lines and a Bauhaus-coastal flair. The menu consisted of standard coffee shop fare, but where things go interesting was with the signature menu. I tried my fortunes with the Good Fortune, and Lady Luck did not disappoint. A light and delightful blend of honey, cinnamon, and house made vanilla syrup in a whole milk latte was the perfect perk for a Labor Day afternoon. A special shout-out to the speedy and friendly baristas who prepped our drinks and gave us some helpful guidance through the signature menu.
