Been coming to Singing sun for a while now. My 4 stars is a combination of coffee, service, timeliness, and price point. Overall, this is a good neighborhood spot. The baristas are generally friendly, and even when there's a long line, you can expect to get your drink within a few minutes, which I really appreciate. My only criticism for Singing Sun is that the pastries could be better- pastries are slightly below average. Will be interesting to see how they adjust as Ficelle opens just a block a way with amazing croissants. read more

I finally had a bad drink. I ordered an iced chai and it tastes like cinnamon milk. I taste zero tea. It is awful and it was $7.25. I added chai concentrate when I got home and I finally tasted chai flavor. I should not be doing that for a seven dollar drink. Chai should not be on the menu if multiple reviews say it tastes bad. The matcha is good. Perhaps this area can't make good chai because not one cafe I have been to in Ventura and Oxnard makes good chai. read more

Prospect Coffee is mainly my go to in Ventura county but I had been meaning to try this coffee shop after finding it on Yelp. I'm really glad I tried it because their coffee is A1! My husband and I love our coffee so we are on a journey to try every coffee shop in Ventura that catches our eye. I remember during covid we wanted to help local businesses so we ordered coffee to go once from this shop. We visited again recently and were greeted with a friendly smile and great vibes. The coffee was yummy and perfect for the cloudy day. We had Americano coffees. The aroma was slightly darker with Smokey notes with heavy strength which I what we wanted. really nice little shop!!!! it's cute and i liked the little shelf of merchandise by the register. i stopped in while my grandmother picked some things up from the market across the way and ordered an iced matcha latte. service was great!! i always appreciate when they ask you questions about how you like your drink, i'm not picky when it comes to sweetened vs unsweetened teas but today i opted for a sweetened matcha latte!!! it was delicious but my only gripe is the matcha wasn't whisked fully so there were a lot of chunky bits at the bottom that got stuck in my straw. otherwise i will be back when i'm in the area!!! i'm sure this was just a one off thing. read more

I only recently discovered this local coffee shop and I'm very glad that I did. The staff is pleasant and warm without being fake or cloying. Service is fast and efficient. I've had the mocha, cappuccino and a coffee mixed drink called The Good Fortune and have loved them all. I'm not tried any of the food items as I've only popped in to grab coffee and go. However, I intend to spend some Leisure Time here soon and we'll update my review accordingly. I recommend this place. read more

I LOVE the coffee at this delightful cafe! In fact, everything about the coffee is perfect including the beautifully designed coffee cup it is poured into. I have tried the gluten free banana bread and it was oh so good. I love the vibe of this place. My only wish is that there was more seating because no matter what time of day I go, there is almost never a spot to sit. So happy I finally tried Singing Sun Coffee! It's beautiful, spacious and has delicious coffee. I tried the vanilla latte with oat milk and it was perfect, not too sweet and paired well with their soft banana bread. The service was fast and friendly too. I wish I could have stayed longer. I just want to start off by saying, the place is nice. Beautiful atmosphere and the remodel looks great. HOWEVER; the two baristas we encountered today are F'ing RUDE. We came in and were ignored, standing at the register without acknowledgment. When we finally ordered(black coffee for me, Lucky charm for my wife), we moved to the side so others could order. We sat at the bar top stools. And waited. The barista put our drinks off to the far side(without telling us). She didn't say anything. We sat there for atleast 10minutes. It would have been less effort to put them infront of us. So then once we got up and retrieved our drinks, we started for the door and my wife asked the barista for a lid. The barista made a face and said "you can get a lid over there." Zero effort, ZERO customer service. Mind you we hadn't processed all of this yet, just chalked it up to them being new?.... But our drinks were AWFUL. My coffee was acidic, like fresh heartburn bubbling up after a greasy dinner. It smelled poopy, like a hot fart. And my wife's matcha tased like feet. Not that I've licked many a foot, but the taste was gross. Earthy in a bad way, like potting soil. So with all that being said, as a Ventura local for 40+ years and we live on the avenue, we will not be returning. Go to Palermo on Main Street. read more

I tried the mocha and a prosciutto and egg pastry. The mocha was the perfect sweetness, however, it tasted more like milk than coffee. The pastry was a delight, but I sure wish they could have heated it up for a few seconds. Lastly, the wait was almost 20 minutes. There were only three orders ahead of mine, but one barista to make them all. Being that this location is new, I understand they are probably trying to get things sorted out. I just love this little shop! Not only is it adorable, but the staff are hard working and earnest. The coffee creations are creative and made with care. A lovely place for a hot chai ($5) to cut through the Sunday morning fog and a scone ($3.50?) to fuel me for the next hundred miles up the coast. The coffee and fresh baked goods seemed to be quite popular with the locals, at least the ones with money. "Do you want an almond latte?" says a man to his Bassett hound. No, wait. I think he was talking to one of two female companions. He is intently watched by a derelict who has taken a position on the corner. Sunday morning outdoor theater with a good seat at the Singing Sun. My wife and I visited her Aunt Matilda today.  Matilda is eighty-one years young and insists on driving herself when running errands around town.  She's new to the Ventura area, so driving at her advanced age concerns us. Matilda wanted a nice cup of coffee, so we decided to treat her to Singing Sun Coffee on Main Street.  In my opinion, Singing Sun has the most consistently fine and flavorful coffees in all of Ventura. I've never had a bitter or sour note in any of the many Singing Sun beverages and coffees that I've sampled. Matilda insisted on driving us to coffee. She's indicated on many occasions that she will continue driving her car until she fails the "mouth test." She's convinced that any driver who cannot keep their mouth closed while driving should be taken off of the road, because breathing has obviously become a bigger priority than driving. Aunt Matilda was hell-on-wheels in her younger days. Her family called her "Matilda the Hun," because she was a tough-minded, no-nonsense businesswoman. She and her husband ran a day-old bakery in San Francisco for over twenty years called the "Stale Way to Heaven." Their store sold bread and pastries that high end bakeries and restaurants in town took off of their shelves. She spent her youth in post-war Belgium prior to emigrating to America with her husband. Her life was as hard as the petrified pumpernickel loaf that sat in the storefront window of her bakery. Nevertheless, she and her husband managed to maintain a healthy sense of humor, a loving relationship, and raise two children who provided them six beautiful grandchildren. Coffee and grandchildren were some of the few luxuries in their lives. Matilda had the Singing Sun drip coffee, my wife a latte with oat milk, and I enjoyed a Cortado. All were creamy, complex and delicious. When my wife asked Matilda how she liked her coffee, she looked off into the middle distance and pensively responded that "a good cup of hot Joe warms you up and makes your toes curl..." she paused and continued "...and the coffee is okay, too." My wife and I were made slightly uncomfortable, because her late husband's name was "Joe."  I quickly changed the subject by pointing out the lovely bookstore situated right next door to Singing Sun. We silently took our drinks next door to browse books while the awkward in the air dissipated, and then headed back to Matilda's house with our mouths closed. Thank you Singing Sun. read more

Brought my friend here for coffee but they made her matcha entirely too sweet (I like sweet) but I tasted it and it was disgusting like pure syrup. My friend wanted a refund that's how bad it was and the cashier (who I'm assuming is manager) mad it complicated for no reason. They are weird about refunds here almost as if they've been asked ALOT because people were unsatisfied. Also I've never walked in there without getting stared at blankly. I first came into this coffeeshop when it opened and it seemed like the staff was friendly. I was in a second time and realized that I may not be going back anytime soon. I finally decided to come back a 3rd or 4th time and... I'm glad that i'm following my intuition. The cashier was not the friendliest person. She was nice but far from helpful and could be a lot more personable. She mentioned that she was tired and there was quite a bit to do! This is the kicker... The place was pretty empty when I stepped in this morning! When you have a business (especially in food service), you place people on the register who are personable and can offer assistance to customers. I know what she was experiencing wasn't personal - however she could of been more friendly and be more helpful. Lastly - I don't care how beautiful an environment is... if you're paying 6.50 for a triple shot mocha (regular or decaf), at least serve it in a bigger glass. We aren't living in a big city like LA. Simones is right around the corner and they have no problem keeping clients. I'm not here to put anyone or business down. I'm sure that this establishment is dong very well. Perhaps they are serving a demographic who can care less about quality customer service and can care less about paying for overpriced coffee. I may possibly give this place another chance. I have been here a few times. Each experience has been vastly different. I have gotten different things off the menu and all the coffee has been delicious: iced dirty chai (decaf), iced vanilla latte, latte (decaf). The coffee is always spot on, and great customer service. Each experience has been vastly different but I have come at different times of the week and different times of the day. I have been there at 2:00 on a Wednesday, 10:00 Wednesday, 11:00 on Saturday, and 3:00 on Saturday. My suggestion is if you are going to get a table and do work I would get there early the seating gets crowded quickly. read more

I would generally give this place a five star as the best coffee in the city of Ventura however I was caught off guard for the first time with the following: I came in the morning and it wasn't that busy, there were probably four drinks ahead of me and two people working and they told me they cannot make a pour over in the morning because they're too busy for pour overs. Never in my life have I been to a coffee shop that doesn't have the work flow to be able to integrate something as critical as a pour over into the process. In my eyes that's a big miss from a business and customer satisfaction perspective and knocks a whole star off the review. So I guess the bottom line is, if you're looking for a pour over in the morning don't come here. Otherwise any other time of the day this is a good shop. read more

Mi wanted to love this place and have it a go 2x. The first time I ordered a honey n latte I think that's what is was called and it was watery. The 2nd time I tried the root beer coffee and a mocha. The root beer one was ok. I asked for almond milk on the mocha and said but I would still like whip cream. The lady laughed and said yuk, we don't have whip cream. I drove out of my way to visit your location because you advertise pour overs. I waited in a long line, and then left empty handed because I was told you are not serving pour-overs. Singing Sun makes my heart soar! I can be a bit of a self proclaimed coffee snob and Singing Sun has that full bodied but not bitter taste that I love, it always has a hint of cocoa- to my palate anyway. My favorite drink as of late is the Zinger, it's a Oaxacan inspired latte that can come hot or iced, I prefer iced. I love the hint of heat that comes after you take a sip. My other favorite is the lavender latte- if there's a lavender latte on any menu I'm giving it a whirl (or is it a swirl?), also very delicious. I recently switched to plant based milks and I haven't experienced a loss of deliciousness with switching out milk, which I'm very grateful for. I've also tried the Good Fortune several times and it's a good choice also. Aside from the delicious coffee, I love visiting Singing Sun because the service is excellent, people are friendly and accommodating on the rare occasion that I need to make an adjustment to the drink. I've never come to get some work done but I see that several folks do & it seems like a great place for that. There's lots of natural light, plenty of seating, and just enough foot traffic noise to keep you distracted. Pay them a visit- you won't be disappointed! read more

Really bad experience. I had ordered a Lavender Majesty, wasn't asked what size i wanted and when i got the drink it was too much milk. I couldn't taste any Lavender. So i asked the girl if i could have it re-made with less milk and maybe more syrup, and she asked if I wanted it in a 12 ounce instead of 16. I didn't realize i ordered a large. So i said yes that works. And then she proceeded to charge me for another drink?? Im confused. I know it's a small business. But never have i been charged again for a drink when I didn't like what I got originally. I just would like my money back at this point. read more

A wonderful shop that's a must when visiting or passing through Ventura. The coffee is excellent and fairly-priced. Their speciality drinks look amazing as well! I can't wait to try the turmeric latte when I'm next there. I especially appreciate the precautions they took for COVID.
