We are pho Snobs with a capital "S" and after a long road trip to Austin from San Francisco, our bodies were callin' for a hearty bowl of hot soup. Sip we did, along with a bit more slurps, after an initial "wow" factor first taste. Most pho connoisseurs will know instantly if it's "good" pho at first sip. Flavors need to be balanced, not too salty, not too sweet, but the perfect blend of umami to tingle your tastebuds. Texas pho meat sure hits different. It's tender, soft, and full of flavor. Tendons are soft and melt in your mouth, along with bouncy tripe that compliments the other textures experienced. Tien (sorry if misspelled), the owner, even came over to our table to get to know us after noticing our paparazzi style photos and foodie-nature. She shared many stories about being a restauranteur and Austin-native, along with mentioning how her young daughter stepped in hugely to help the family business during the Texas power outage and snowstorm. My husband and I were on vacation in Austin and were craving pho and found Sip Pho. We're so happy we did, the chicken pho and sip pho were delicious! We both emptied our bowls to the last sip. Our dessert was Boba Brûlée, a must try. The chicken broth had the right amount of flavor. I love that they include lots of vegetables. The noodles tasted fresh and cooked perfectly. The Boba Brûlée was so yummy. The brûlée just melts in your mouth. The boba was made to perfection. Everything blended wonderfully with the milk tea. We had such a wonderful experience eating at Sip Pho. The owner even chatted with us. She was so friendly and nice. The service was fantastic! Charming Vietnamese fare near campus, served in a modern but casual environment. Counter service with prompt food delivery, super clean feeling in the place. . I live nearby and have been here more times than I can count, so I can attest to consistently delicious food and great service. We walk over and sit on the back patio fairly often, and it is dog friendly, so our pup is also a big Sip Pho fan. The couple who owns it care very much about your experience and are often there to greet you and make sure everything is to your liking. I recommend trying any of the pho bowls, the freshly made boba tea, or my favorites- the lemongrass beef bao and wonton soup. They do takeout which is always perfectly packaged and also offer UT student discounts. You'll find a lot of students here as well as neighborhood locals. Bustling on the weekend, but never so busy that your order takes too long. Parking can be a bit tricky at times, so I recommend looking a block away and walking if the lot is full. read more

This is my favorite Vietnamese restaurant near campus. My favorites are the Bun Bo Hue, Sip Pho, Rice plates, and the wonton soup. Their broth is flavorful and the presentation of the dishes is stellar. Extra props to their Bun Bo Hue, the beef rib is just extra level. I normally wash it down with a brown sugar boba tea. I may be a little bias as I'm Vietnamese and there are very few good Viet restaurants in Austin. Sip Pho fell short of my expectations. For $15 the Bun Bo Hue came with meat (meatballs and sliced beef) that would normally be found in a bowl of Pho. It didn't come with pork feet but Beef Rib which I was fine with. But the flavor was really lacking that authentic taste. The noodles were over cooked and really soft. My husband commented that his pho was okay. They had other options on the menu like Banh Mi and Rice plates which we possibly might come back and try... It does have a nice modern atmosphere with high ceilings and exposed wood structure and a nice outdoor courtyard. read more

I've come here probably too many times but the location is so convenient close to campus. Even if it wasnt, I would go out of my way to order here. The pho is pretty good but what I mostly come here for is the pork belly bahn mi. It's a huge sandwich and always comes with so much juicy meat! It's one of my favorite bahn mi I've ever had. The taro milk tea is also yummy, I like to get mango or lychee jelly usually. The inside and outdoor seating is very cute, light, and modern. This is a cute spot to grab lunch with friends! The interior is clean and minimalist with nice pops of color in the decor. I had the sip bowl, which is a bowl of pho with all of the meats. It's a large bowl that is big enough for two meals! The broth is less flavorful than I prefer, but it can be fixed with hoisin sauce. I had a taste of my friend's bun bo hue, which was decent. The Viet Coffee was passable, but not sweet enough for my liking. Overall, I think Sip Pho is decent. I've had better pho, but I don't regret coming here. read more

Awesome new Pho option in town. I would have to agree with others that it has a very Pho Please vibe to it. I tried the S/P Pho which was basically all the meat options and it did not disappoint. I thought the meat was very tender and fresh. We also got a seafood pho, egg rolls, and some pork belly bao buns. If I was nit picking I would say the I would have preferred a big chunk of pork belly in the bao bun. Instead it was more of a bulgogi consistency. We also ordered a thai tea, mango tea, and taro milk tea and those were also very good. When looking over the menu I was intirigued by the beef short rib pho, but decided to go with the more traditional pho to begin with. As we sat down someone else was eating it and it was a giant dinosaur type beef rib that looked amazing! I will definitely need to be back to try that dish. read more

This cute new place opened today and I popped in on their opening day. Went in at 11 AM and there wasn't much of a line. The first thing I noticed was how cute and aesthetic this restaurant is. The decoration/atmosphere was very high class and clean. Definitely stands out for the location. The noodles were really good as well. I would say without the BOGO deal I wouldn't come back because the noodles would've been 15 dollars versus 7 dollars. The broth was so good, would've been even better if it came just a bit hotter, was completely cold after 20 minutes. Ever since they started building this place, I knew it would definitely be a hit, especially in the UT area. The outside is so aesthetically pleasing to look at and the inside lives up too. It is so cute and hip and trendy and screams Austin coffee shop. A cute unique touch is that all the bowls are different too. I got the chicken vermicelli. It was pretty good but didn't blow me away. The first few bites were pretty good and the chicken has that fresh grill taste! But as I kept eating the initial amazement died a little bit. Not the best vermicelli I have ever had but still decent. The vietnamese coffee was good, very strong like it should be. I also tried a bit of the beef pho, it would satisfy a pho craving but doesn't taste authentic. My only complaint is that it is pricey. If a bowl of pho is more than $10 it should be astounding. Oh yeah!! This place is good. Would recommend. Came here on a Friday night and there was a line to the door. Not too bad though - probably waited 20 minutes for a table. The setup is like a dining hall. You order at the register, they direct you to a table and they bring the food to you but don't really wait on you. I got the Bun Bo Hue and Broken Rice. Bun Bo Hue: so im Vietnamese and this is one of my favorite dishes. If you've only had Pho, definitely give this a try! It's like a slightly spicier, bolder, version of pho with thicker noodles. I think they did a great job with this dish - really flavorful and broth had great depth. Portion was plentiful. Broken Rice: this was good too! I don't remember too much tbh because I was full after my bun Bo hue but I do remember it was good. Ambiance: good for a very casual date night. Good energy in the place without being too loud or overwhelming. I'll have to actually try the Pho here next time. This and Pho Phong Luu are the best Vietnamese spots in austin. read more

It's been so long since I've been to pho establishment like, Sip Pho. I feel so fortunate that this is right down the street from my home! Sip Pho, is the first restaurant I've tried since moving to Austin. I was elated from the time I walked into the building until the last drop of soup was eaten! There were gold streamers coming from the ceiling which really added a happy and inviting ambiance. I know that there's few pho places that provide a togo bowl for the pho so that you do not have to provide your own. Those that do provide togo bowls hold a special place in my heart! I was ecstatic to see that Sip Pho provided bowls for the customers and that I would not need to utilize my own. Because I'm still moving into my new home in Austin, I was worried I may have to struggle with not having a deep enough bowl. My worries were pushed aside when I opened the bag! I ordered the Beef Pho (you get two choices of meat-- which is so cool might I add, I've never had beef pho where I can choose more than one beef) & I also added dumplings! There's only one other pho restaurant I've been to where you can add dumplings, so this was again another major score for me! There was nothing missing in my togo order. The items included the pho itself, two types of utensils (chopsticks and a cutlery kit) and the sides (bean sprouts, mint, jalapeños, lime, hoisin sauce, & sriracha sauce). The pho was delicious... I'm not sure If I've ever had beef that tender in my pho before. I chose the rare steak & brisket. The noodles were wider than I expected, but I'm not counting this against them. I ordered online and I did shy away from asking questions. Words cannot describe how delicious this pho was. They had a variety of different pho's that I cannot wait to try! Nothing like a warm bowl of Pho, with a nice simple patio and quaint indoors. A great spot to come and enjoy some quality broth and a variety selection of flavors as well as banh mi. Also very spacious too, every time I've gone service has been quick and there has been no issue finding seats. Atmosphere: Modernized style with a bit of hipster flair that is common around Austin, as in quaint and simple, but never really a bad thing. Feels like coming to a welcoming place to enjoy a homely meal. Food: I've been here several times, but the standouts for sure the beef short ribs or the wagyu. Both come in similar style broths which is not too salty but more soothing and compliments the meat choices well. Meats come out tender and well flavored, especially the wagyu as wagyu does. Can't go wrong with either, there's a good variety on their menu that I'd be tempted to try another choice they have. Service: Friendly and quick, all you have to do is walk up to the register and place your order and they server will find your number. Every time I've gone and had questions the person up front is more than happy to take their time and answer any questions about the menu that they can. You gotta pay up for the best...just be careful what you order. The wife and I rolled up here on a Sunday afternoon, and apparently every hungover UT student had the same idea. Let me rephrase, every wealthy UT student. With bowls in the $15-18 range, Sip Pho is really leaning into the "Austin is a tech city" ethos. But you know what? The pho is good. Incredibly good. I'd go so far as to to say the $18 wagyu pho I is the best bowl of pho I've ever had. The wife felt similarly about her bun bo hue. The architecture is sprawling, bright and airy, and every employee we interacted with was pleasant and happy to be there. The small patio out back was damn near enchanting, but with only four tables your timing has to be impeccable. Do be aware, they only have 21 total parking spaces, so expect to walk a little bit if you're going during peak hours. Were Sip Pho fell on its face was with the bahn mi. I honestly don't know if it truly was the worst banh mi I've ever had, or if I was still riding a wagyu pho high and the sandwich just seemed terrible by comparison? Either way, the bread was soft and the meat was cold. One bite each was enough to tell us we didn't need to waste our calories. All of the other yelpers tell me the wagyu pho is the star of the show, but knowing that regular bowls are only $13, and the beef broth is shared among almost all the pho offerings, I'm curious to try some of their cheaper offerings next time and see how they stack up. read more

Sip Pho is located on UT's campus, has a convenient parking lot right behind the restaurant, and both indoor/outdoor seating. This is a restaurant you order up front and the staff brings your order to your table. After you order, there is a section to grab a pitcher of water and any extra toppings (lime, jalapeños, onions) - but they will also bring you a bowl of toppings. The interior was decorated quite nicely for the holidays (I hear they change up the ceiling decor every once in a while). The pho was solid! Authentic, nicely presented, ok portion. However the food itself wasn't to the standard I had heard it would be. I got the 2 vegan dishes and I was somewhat disappointed. Ive had pho before but this seemed a little too bland for my liking. My friend and I decided to grab pho to warm us up in this cold weather, so of course, we headed to the best pho place in West Campus! WHAT I ORDERED: * Pho with rare steak and tendon: Flavorful broth with large portions of meat (and large portions of everything else tbh LOL I could not finish the entire bowl) - definitely worth the price! * Crab rangoons: Wow. I don't know what it is about cream cheese fried in a wonton wrapper but... pure bliss on the tastebuds. That sweet and sour sauce that came with it too. MWAH. * Vietnamese coffee: Not gonna lie, as a coffee addict, this coffee was probably the highlight of my meal. The coffee is STRONG, and mixed with the sweetness of the condensed milk, it's just perfection. :') Overall such a delicious meal and we were both so full afterwards! Wow wow wow! I cannot say enough good things about Sip Pho! Now I understand why it's always packed and people are willing to park in crappy downtown streets to eat here. The family owned restaurant is delicious, bright and clean. Their team is friendly, kind and quick. The dining area isn't huge but they make it work. The patrons happily wait in line to order and find a seat. The Sip Bun Bo Hue is my absolute favorite. They serve it with a huge beef bone. Don't be afraid to pick it up with your hands and gnaw on it! I also love the egg rolls and crab rangoons. You are NOT getting frozen food here. You can taste the love in every single bite. AND THE DRINKS. OH EM GEE. Do yourself a favor and and not skip out on ordering a Boba drink. You won't regret it! The boba is soft and sweet. The green tea matcha is divine!!! Just had my third visit and can now say that Sip Pho has actually become my go-to pho spot! It's centrally located, has a casual vibe, and the ambiance is really great. Especially at night, on the patio-- really feels like date night, with all the lights and intimate seating. I've had the wagyu pho, short rib pho, and then combination pho. All were great, but I'd say the short rib pho stood out as my favorite - It's generally just a fun experience eating a giant, tasty rib. Broth is good, noodles seem thinner and have a slight chewiness that's unique. Overall great pho. They also have a lot of gluten-free options, mainly any beef pho other than the meatballs. I think some rice plates are also safe, which I'm excited to go back and try. read more

Moving from the Bay Area, where casual Vietnamese is a dime-a-dozen, thought my best pho days were a thing of the past. Couldn't have been more wrong, after finding Sip Pho that easily sets the bar high for food quality + authenticity, and even higher for atmosphere by way of its beautiful modern space and friendly staff... all in all, this spot takes the comforting "pho spot" to another level. The menu, while comprised of the usual suspects, are just exceptionally executed. Every dish is everything one would expect with noticeably (very) fresh ingredients made-to-order, great presentation, and above all, authentic flavors that are complex and comforting. It's impossible to go wrong down the pho and grill boards, having adventured across the menu... it's all so delicious. After so many visits, would recommend a couple of standout go-to favorites on the Chef's Choice, which are both genuinely special... the Sip Wagyu and the Sip Beef Short Ribs. The photos speak for themselves, but to say the least, Sip Wagyu is something more familiar in terms of pho and rare/raw beef but made spectacularly, while the Sip Beef Short Ribs has me convinced Fred Flintstone is working the kitchen with the GIANT brontosaurus rib that the mere sight of is a delight every time. Every time I come here I'm so glad I did. The restaurant is so clean and the lighting is great. You feel like you are outside while inside. They play nice music and the people are always talking and just getting to know you. The Pho is soooo good I love the quality of the pho here, I often get the short ribs as well and wow they are so flavorful and good. After trying a slew of mediocre pho places in Austin, Sip Pho is a breath of fresh air. My favs are the Bun Bo Hue and Beef Short Rib Pho (under Chef's Choice). The BBH is amazingly aromatic and flavorful, and really just hits the spot. Also all of the meats like the pork belly were incredibly tender. While the Short Rib is very photogenic, it's thankfully not all looks. It's a satisfying rich broth (and clear!) and stuffed full with meat. All of the proteins here were better quality that other places I've tried. As usual everything comes with a small plate of veg and herbs, in addition to the mini-bar near the counter. read more

Pho'nominal!!! Rare steak was so tender and had a high quality flavor. That was the first thing we noticed. Then we hit the noodles which were wide style and they were properly cooked. I do not like mushy noodles. These were chewy which were very pleasant. The broth was spiced well. Classic rare steak pho. This is the best Pho I have eaten. We paid 40 for 3 people which is very reasonable these days. Nice decor but good luck parking. I hope you have the same timing we did catching a lucky opening right in front. There's not much parking on site that I saw. The inside is nicely decorated (especially for a pho place!). I had the bun no hue, it was expensive than what I usually pay but it came with a huge thing of ribs so the price made sense. The broth needed a little more flavor but overall it was good. I tried the chicken pho broth and that was great! I love they offer chicken broth and vegetarian broth as most places only do beef broth. I also had the matcha Thai tea and that's a must get here! I am very fond of this place now that I've tried it after passing by it so many times. It is a good sized restaurant with patio seating. The main dining room feels a bit squished but is functional. This is a hot spot for the UT kids as it is super close to campus. I think this place might be owned by the same people who run Pho Sho but aI could be wrong. The concept of Sio and Pho Sure are basically identical. The menu on the wall is a little hard to read so I would suggest getting a handheld menu. I ordered the shrimp pho and tofu egg rolls. Everything was delicious and comforting. It was definitely what my belly needed after a long weekend of work. They also have boba tea which looks incredible.
