The restaurant section was sectioned off by plexiglass to ensure social distancing and tables were labeled as sanitized to show customers that proper COVID-19 standards were followed. The service was cordial, not overbearing, and prompt when needed for refills or food orders following appetizers. My date ordered the penne caprese, which had an excellent red sauce and blend of melted cheeses. She was amazed by the dish but did not enjoy her cocktail, which was an issue of her preference and not a mark against the restaurant. I ordered the seared fish street tacos which were excellent along with my seasonal cocktail order. Overall a great experience for a date night! read more

I've been to sip now more than a couple of times and it is time for a review. When they first opened I was truly unimpressed but over the years I have returned and they have improved greatly. They even have a gluten free menu, three cheers and a hurray! I've had the salmon sushi, the hummus plate and the gluten free pasta. They no longer offer the gluten free pasta dish so I'm not sure how often I'll return given they removed the one thing I truly enjoyed but hopefully they'll bring it back. If you like seafood and are in the area this place is great. The wine pours are not cheap and you'll pay for a 9oz pour but that's why you come here, to have a sip! read more

I stopped here for a casual dinner at the bar because a) it was near where I was staying and b) they had oysters in the half shell. It's a great trendy location with a very smart concept to let people try new wines without committing to a full glass. They also offer outstanding sounding $5 food specials at the bar. My experience was a bit of a mixed bag. The oysters were delicious, but they had quite a bit of grit in them. I also ordered the much touted out-of-control roll. Again delicious, but the pieces were too large to eat with any kind of grace, and it would have benefited from variations in texture (tempura flakes, yes please!). Aside from the decent outdoor seating, I'm struggling to find any positives from my Sip experience. My low expectations were set after being handed a slimy menu, and unrolling my napkin to expose poorly washed silverware with pieces of food stuck to my knife. I had no desire to stay, but we did...and the experience never recovered. Especially after we realized we had lunch menus, and the dinner menu that I was handed was even more grimy than the lunch one! Ridiculous. Sip's employees clearly don't care about the experience, and the lack of effort at the front of the house can only make you wonder what's happening in the back of the house. The servers (we had 3 or 4 in the outdoor area) were generally nice, to be fair, but it took forever to order. It also took 15 minutes (literally) to get our check. I'm used to more efficient service when servers are in teams, so this was just odd. The food came out quickly, but considering the quality, it doesn't surprise me. Due to the questionable first impressions, my reluctance to stay had me keep our order short and sweet: a grilled pear salad, caesar salad, nigiri platter, and kobe sliders. The Italian-Asian fusion menu had us all over the place in terms of what to eat. There's chicken parmesan, arancini...and sushi? Talk about identity issues. A somewhat "diverse" order is almost impossible to avoid. Anyway, my pear salad was gross. The pears were grilled until they were hard, dried out pieces of fruit. The rest of the ingredients were basic, prepackaged items, with the pear being the ONLY thing that needed some love from the kitchen. If that's the "highlighted" ingredient, you might not want it to be the worst element in the salad. The caesar salad was pale and disgusting, and I refused to eat the sliders after a single bite. The texture of the beef had me questioning the quality and storage. Perhaps the first time I ever rejected a burger. The nigiri was fine and I didn't get sick, but you could tell the fish wasn't the freshest by the texture. No smell meant it was "good enough" to eat, but I wouldn't recommend ordering raw fish from here. Especially considering the cleanliness of the menus and silverware. I have no idea what I was thinking. Oh, and we never received sushi utensils. No chopsticks (fine for nigiri, I guess), no soy or dishes. I applied my wasabi with my wife's clean(er) knife. The cucumber basil margarita, like my burger, was left behind. I wouldn't recommend due to the lack of actual cucumber or basil flavor. It was just a boring margarita, if that makes any sense. It's a small beverage, and I still had no interest in finishing. Overall, I can't imagine returning to Sip, and I certainly wouldn't recommend it unless you're ONLY going for drinks...and in that case, stick to the bottled stuff. Unfortunately, no amount of wine can make up for the lack of cleanliness, slow service, and sub-par food. Sip wine bar is located at the borderline of Chinatown and downtown crossing. This is the best location for a wine bar! Last year, whenever I was done with classes at Tufts and needed a drink, I would stop by here. There is a self seated bar area and also a dining area. I like how they have a wide selection of red and white wines. They give you the option to order by a sip (2oz), 1/2 glass (6oz), full glass (10oz), or by the bottle. They also have a variety of cocktails but I haven't had the chance to try them. I haven't really eaten here but last time I ordered the baby kale salad and it was delicious! It came with their green goddess dressing, shaved parmesan, and grilled corn. These ingredients married well together. It was a great snack to pair with the wine I ordered. The service is pretty good. The servers are really on top of it! Whenever I was done with a drink, they would stop by to ask if I wanted to order more. I also like the ambiance of this restaurant. At night, they dim the lights so it sets a romantic mood. This is a nice spot for those of you who are looking for a place for a casual date night! The ambiance in Sip (the wine bar side) is awesome- it is dim and intimate and the lights add a nice charm. My favorite part about Sip is the wine flights, which are reasonably priced for a good selection. They have a preset flight of the night or you can choose to make your own, which most of us did. On the other hand, we were not impressed with the size of the appetizer. When our cheese board came, we actually laughed because it was so small and underwhelming!! For a wine bar, you'd think that they'd have a robust cheese board to pair with the wine. So there I was in Boston on a little 48 hour solo trip, looking for some "me" time to chill the eff out and just carpe diem, right? I am a planner. I'm all about researching ahead of time, making lists... Especially when I am a little crunched for time. What then, you might ask, found me at Sip not once but TWICE during my shorter-than-short vacation? Well people, this place is the bomb. I had checked it out during my planning phase and was looking forward to coming here to try a couple of glasses of wine since it was right around the corner from The Hyatt Regency where I was staying and since I noticed that they had a really fun, interesting and VAST wine list and offered pours in various sizes which I just found so groovy. Also, they call a 6oz. pour a "1/2" glass, which makes you feel NOT so lushy at all about ordering up 3 or 4 of them. Hiccup! The food menu kind of confused me at first glance. It just didn't seem very cohesive. Flatbreads, lobster pot pie and then a whole sushi menu too? I was wary, to say the least. How could they do all of these well? I found myself at a sunny little table on the patio on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. I was just going to have a quick "1/2 glass" ;) of wine on my way back to the hotel after a morning of shopping and strolling through The Common, but I decided to splurge and try a sushi roll too. Dammit, I was on vacation here! You guys? Mind BLOWN. First of all, the service was friendly, helpful, non-intrusive & delightful. The wine was cold, crisp & absolutely perfect but this Out Of Control Roll I ordered? Beyond comprehension. I couldn't stop taking pictures of it!! What a nerd! It was a work of art....for serious. I honestly think it was the prettiest thing I have ever eaten. And as beautiful as it was, it was twice as delicious. I was in heaven! Later that evening, a friend met me back at my hotel for a girl's night out. We ended up back at Sip for dinner and it was just as enjoyable as my solo lunch had been. Service was impeccable, food was on point. We each had a Grapefruit Basil Martini and it was out of this world! For dinner, we shared the prosciutto flatbread, the blackened day boat scallops & the block island calamari. All 3 were perfection. I'll be back in Boston next month and I actually want to come back here again. What is wrong with me? Thousands of other restaurants to check out and I'm just jonesing for that sushi. And that patio. I liked the concept of Sip. You can essentially try many different kinds of wine with their 2oz pour. It is pricy when drinking this way, but it makes it fun. Overall I actually liked the food, but the portion size is too small for the price. I got the tuna and my mom got the salmon. Both tasted good, but the entire tuna dish was so salty that I was drinking a lot of water after I left the restaurant. Just an ok place ... The latest of Legendary Restaurant Group's family that includes Max & Dylan's, Sip's off to a pretty decent start considering it just soft-opened yesterday. The decor's bright and upbeat with pastels all around and touches like the marble main bar give the vibe of a modern, upscale sports bar. My friend and I split a a number of dishes including the rock shrimp, calamari, mac & cheese and roasted brussel sprouts. None of them stood out at all unfortunately and the brussies, in fact, were unusually pedestrian in that they offered little more than one note saltiness. The breading on the calamari reminded me of school cafeteria tater tots too. I totally understand that these guys are still getting their footing together, so they have the benefit of the doubt that the sushi and large plates are loads better. And the whole "sip" concept with the wines is rather...odd. Sips are actually half pours at ~3 oz, "half" glasses are actually full normal pours at 6 oz and "full" glasses are Texan sized at 10 oz. I appreciate that I can try more wines at a lower cost, but most legit restaurants will allow you to taste a wine and opt to switch before committing. As for the selection itself, the majority's made up of the bigger, more widely available wineries in CA. Lastly, the service is a bit on the sluggish side but otherwise not bad. We'll see how things unfold with Sip b/c if the small plates and sides are any reflection of the food, the chef's got a ways to go. read more

Get the mussels. They are some of the best I've ever had. The flavor is just delightful! I was led here with my family due to extreme starvation. We walked by, glanced at the menu, and decided that it would do. We didn't really have any expectations, but it proved to be a good decision. What I like about Sip is its offering of smaller plates. They are great for sharing! So, Sip would be a great choice for large parties. We ordered the mussels, calamari and prosciutto flatbread. I was visiting Boston from California and Sip was half a block away from the hotel. I normally don't visit restaurants that I haven't checked reviews on, but it was snowing and cold. I am so thankful my friend and I walked into this place. We had a wonderful time. The food was great. The wine selection was superior, and the service was phenomenal. We went on a Monday night. It wasn't that busy. The manager and the server took advantage of the downtime and spent a lot of time with us. They were so personable and welcoming. Being a wine drinker from California, I really appreciated the wine list being organized by taste rather than grape. I was able to zero in on buttery whites, rather than muddle my way through a list of chardonnays that I know nothing about. I ordered their flight special, and my friend had cocktails off their specials menu. Both were great choices. We ordered the spicy tuna to start. The presentation was amazing. Then we split one of their gourmet macaroni and cheese dishes. Completely satisfying in flavor and portion size. For dessert we ordered s'mores. They have a unique presentation for their s'mores dish, and it comes with peanut butter sauce. Check out the pix. Yummy! Everything was great. I could go on and on about our experience here. But what really separates SIP from other wine bars/restaurant is the hospitality and investment in their customers' experience. No wine snobs in this place! Sip is a fun place. The atmosphere is hip and the décor is modern. The windows big and bright; it really draws you in for visit. I came here with a group of friends for an early dinner before a show. We made a reservation and were seated right away. We were happy with our server. She was helpful with recommendations and visited our table plenty of times. Their drink selection is huge and the concept of having a sip, half or full is brilliant. It's perfect for tasting different wines. For food, we ordered a bit of everything. Flatbreads, an array of sushi, calamari and desserts. The flatbreads were light and flavorful. Calamari was crispy and I like the mix of tomatoes and peppers. Our server recommended the bread pudding for dessert but I thought it was ok. I should of know better since soggy bread is meh to me. I was most impressed by their sushi; presentation and taste is exquisite. It's quite funny to me though because the restaurant doesn't look like a place to serve Asian food. So my review is more of a 4 1/2. I'm taking a half-star off because it was pricy and the portions could of been bigger. My friends and I had a great time nonetheless. Went here for a girls night of wine and dinner and had a great time! Our waiter was fantastic! We were having a hard time picking a wine and he was able to recommend a wine for each of our tastes. We ended up going with a bottle of La Craie from France. It was perfect for what we were looking for: sweet, fruity, and light. For food we went with a variety (read: almost all) of the small plates. Three girls with a bottle of wine and appetites to match! We started with: Buffalo Rock Shrimp, Crispy Stuffed Olives, Mini Arancini, and the Pretzel Bites. The pretzel bites were served with a little fondue dish of a cheese sauce. The pretzels themselves were hand made and absolutely delicious! The cheese sauce lacked some flavor and didn't really add or take away from the dish other than the cool presentation. The favorite was by far the Mini Arancini. The sauce and hint of truffle oil was perfect! Made the dish rich but not heavy. The buffalo rock shrimp could have been left out of our meal completely. They were little shrimp fried and drizzled with buffalo sauce atop a bed of shredded lettuce. Everything else we got was presented so nicely and was a pleasure to eat. The shrimp fell short. We weren't full so we went for the Flash Fried Boccocini, which is a fancy way of saying fried mozz. Delicious!! And for dessert (in case we didn't eat enough of the menu) we got the apple pie. If you love wine, look no further. The menu for wines by the glass is extensive. Upon arrival, of course I didn't look at it and asked if they offered Pinot Noir by the glass. Our sweet server gladly replies with "Yes, we've got three." What do I do? I get all three in 2 oz sip portions and loved it. We sat outside on the patio but I'm not sure I'd do that again. Perhaps it was the angle but the wind kept kicking up and blowing my hair all over the place. I'm convinced it's because we're surrounded by all nearby taller buildings. Now for the food. I'm a fan of small plates and this is yet another great place that offers small plates served tapas style. Definitely recommend getting the blackened scallops, dragon maki and the spicy tuna tempura roll. The rolls were the perfect texture of light and crunchy and looked like artwork as it arrived on our table and the scallops melt right in your mouth. Had a pre-movie dinner here. Me and 2 friends were able to walk in on a Saturday at 6:15 without a reservation and we got seats at the bar. I ordered the sangria and it was terrible. It tasted like watered down white wine with cinnamon sprinkled in. My friends tried it and agreed. The server thankfully comped the drink and I got The Blush instead which was delicious and strong. The food on the other hand was on par. I had a caesar salad and a mushroom flatbread. The flatbread was huge and I brought half home for lunch tomorrow. Our server was very friendly and I appreciated that she comped the terrible sangria. My only complaint was when we got our appetizers we had no silverware and we had to ask multiple times to get some. She also happily divided the bill for us to which I always appreciate. I really enjoyed having my birthday at Sip Wine Bar. This place is classy, but casual. Great for a first date or a group gathering. They have 2 oz "sips" of wine for pretty cheap, allowing you to try 3-4 wines for under $10. On top of this, their food is very delicious. We had just done a food tour of Boston and were super full. The portion sizes were just right and there was something that everyone could try. The grilled pear salad was absolutely fantastic. It was presented beautifully and had an excellent combination of sweet, bitter and crunchy. And if there's one thing that you NEED to get, it's the chocolate torte for dessert. It's $8, but worth every penny. Warm, rich, creamy. Slather some ice cream on that bad boy and you have a perfect dessert for two. I've been meaning to try this place forever, and I'm so glad that I finally did. Came here on a Wednesday night with three friends for dinner and drinks, and we were seated right away. We were about to put in an order for the buffalo chicken flatbread, and three other small plates. When we ordered the buffalo chicken fondue, he told us absolutely NOT to get it. I won't say his name so he won't get in trouble, but I'm so glad he told us before we were disappointed with our meal! DON'T GET THE FONDUE! For food, our party of four split two buffalo chicken flatbreads, "screaming rooster" rock shrimp, block island calamari, and the kobe sliders. My favorites were definitely the flatbreads and the shrimp. The shrimp is fried in a tempura batter with sriracha sauce and it's just delicious! So flavorful. The sliders on the other hand could have used more flavor. They were good, but nothing special. Calamari was decent, but I've had better. There were also sushi and sashimi options on the menu, so definitely seemed like an Asian fusion sort of restaurant. But I didn't feel justified paying almost $20 for a single roll of sushi, when Chinatown and other sushi restaurants with guaranteed quality were right down the street. For drinks, we ended up splitting three bottles of wine (yes, it was a Wednesday night. We know. Don't judge us!) They had such an extensive wine menu that we wanted to try them all. We got the dmz rose (fruity wine - cabernet sauvignon), domaine ste michelle (sweet & bubbly), and the teresa raiz (crisp white - pinot grigio). My favorite was the pinot grigio. The restaurant itself seemed large and it had a nice lively atmosphere. It was busy, given it was a Saturday night, but luckily we were seated right away. Their menu is a little strange as in they have an array of sushi options on one side and then Italian inspired options on the other. I started off with the grapefruit basil martini. It was made with real grapefruit which was nice, but I think I was just looking for a hint of sweetness which I didn't taste (just my personal preference). Since we weren't starving we decided to split a few of the smaller plates. We went for the mini arancini and the prosciutto flatbread, both of which were somewhat disappointing. The arancini themselves were decent however, the tomato sauce was reminiscent of Chef Boyardee (yuck). The flatbread wasn't anything special or memorable. Overall, everything was a little overpriced for my liking especially for an experience that was only average. Very mediocre and overpriced. But the reason for the review is that the day I was there and used my card, that very night I received FRAUD ALERT from Amex. A fraudulent charge was made with my card. This is first time this ever happened to me. And I did not charge that card anyplace else that day or even couple days before. Coincidence? I don't think so. read more

Food was just ok. We didn't have a reservation at 5p so they said we could sit at their 'second bar' which we were not upset about but this area looked like their storage closet. If they are going to use this as a section and regularly seat patrons there I would expect it would be cleaned up. read more

I've always walked by this place but never really thought to stop in. Had Sunday brunch yesterday and it really caught me by surprise. Started off with a fruit bowl and that was very good. Obviously. Fruits are always good! I wound up ordering the fried egg sandwich without bacon and that too was good. It came on a multigrain ciabatta with arugula, egg, fontina and aioli. The only downside I guess would have to be the aioli. It tasted like ranch and I absolutely hate ranch. Other than that everything was fine. My bf and I were wandering around the Boston Opera House before a show, looking for a place to eat, when we stumbled upon SIP. There weren't too many people at the time, so we were seated rather quickly. The service that came afterward, though, did not follow suit. It then took our server 10 minutes to bring out the drinks and menus, then another 10 to take our orders. We ended up ordering the calamari appetizer, the pan roasted shrimp (seared shrimp with pepper gravy and grilled ciabatta), and the rice bowl (ahi tuna, fried scallops, avocado, mixed greens with rice). The calamari was pretty standard- nothing too special about the dish. The rock shrimp came out around 10 minutes after the appetizer, which was pretty speedy. However, the dish was less-than-desirable in taste- the shrimp was sandy and gritty, and not very fresh, so that was rather unpleasant. You could also taste the flour in the gravy. Fifteen minutes went by before the rice bowl came to the table, and I was pretty baffled when it finally arrived. I was pretty sure I ordered a rice bowl, but what was presented before me seemed to be a salad. There were tons and tons of leafy greens with a few slices of ahi tuna and a couple fried scallops as garnish. After eating the salad for what seemed to be a good 8 minutes, I finally reached the rice at the very, very bottom of the bowl, which was about the size of half a palm. Definitely not acceptable for something claiming to be a "rice bowl." Overall, the food was not very good, and the service was pretty terrible as well, as we barely saw our server throughout the meal. Best take your time and money elsewhere. read more

Had dinner here before the theater and the experience could not have been better. We had the tuna on crunchy rice and the tempura shrimp bowl. We also had a very nice inexpensive wine which escapes me now but was recommended by a very nice bartender. We sat at the high top near the bar and it was very lively and fun also the prices were really good! Can't wait to go again pre-theater. read more
