To start, it was a beautiful evening in Seaport, the neighborhood was buzzing! I enamored with Woods Hill P4, and The Block hits it. I sat at bar in front of the kitchen, and every plate coming out looked beautiful. I had only a couple of plates, the caviar potato puffs, roasted artichoke, and the pate...all wonderful especially the pate! The chef sent over the zucchini and kale salad with Goddess dressing, so flavorful and fresh. The beauty of the flavors of the dishes all complement each other other, nothing overwhelms. The food was all pretty good. I really liked the duck on the charcuterie and the seed mix on the fried artichoke was yummy. Tbh all the appetizers were good. The mains were just alright. The dessert were really good. The tiramisu sundae was super yummy and both desserts balanced out their sweetness super well. Service was quite slow, it took around 20-40min for each of our courses to come out and a while for the check too. A typical Seaport dining experience where the trendy atmosphere far exceeded the food. Don't get me wrong, the dishes we got ranged from all right to very good but for the steep price tag, you're paying an arm and a leg for the waterfront location. We were intrigued by the pommes soufflé on the menu and should have asked what exactly it was before ordering a $22 dish, and almost burst out laughing when it arrived to our table - two tiny potato puffs topped with caviar. I suppose the caviar more than made up for it but I could have eaten at least five more pieces. The presentation of the salmon belly crudo was pretty but there were only five pieces for two of us, and each piece was less than a mouthful. I love salmon belly and this one tasted a tad less fresh/unctuous than other iterations. We decided we needed more substantial food and ordered the focaccia and an all-meat charcuterie board. The focaccia was oily enough for me to keep wiping off my fingers but probably my favorite thing of what we ordered; the charcuterie came on a piece of wax or parchment paper, an interesting choice, and, with all the rich meats (pate, ham, and duck rilette), I was finally satiated. Actually, my favorite was the farmer's whim cocktail: though not very strong, it was a beautiful beet color and taste, and though the base alcohol of rye is something I never opt for, it was extremely drinkable. Our waitress was so sweet and, even though we decided not to order any dessert, brought out two cups of soft serve with candles. Having been to woods hill pier a few times and loving it, I wanted to try this spinoff out. The martini flight was really fun, with a classic, spicy, and sweet drink. Tuna crudo was delicious though the portion was on the smaller side. Focaccia and the charcuterie were surprisingly large if you're hungrier. Decor was nice but not as cohesive as woods bill pier next door. The staff was awesome and super knowledgeable about the menu. read more

This is a cool restaurant with a really nice patio. I loved the waterfront view and the sunset view I go dining here. I tried the dry aged flat iron, mackerel, baby romaine, and pigs foot. To drink I got the farmers choice and for dessert I got the s'mores sundae. The highlight of the meal was definitely the dessert. All the dishes were beautifully presented, I think the sundae was just the best. The server was also very nice and helpful. read more

We heard of this new spot opening and popped in. We were able to get two seats at the bar right away, the hostess was very friendly and we had an amazing bartender who did everything in her power to make sure we had a great experience: she even helped with some allergies that we had and did a special order with the chef. Absolutely amazing charcuterie set up, they slice the meat fresh in front of you and have a very curated and unique menu. We got the salmon tiradito and it was amazing. Definitely need to check it out even if it's just for a drink and some light bites. read more

Ambiance is nothing less than what you'd expect from a wood hills restaurant. Service was good and the food was tasty. We went around 5:30 during the earlier part of the evening. The place wasn't busy and we sat at the bar. As I mentioned, service was good, but not great from what I'm used to at wood hills pier 4. Maybe it's cause we sat at the bar? Not sure. My only complaint is the price of the food here. Maybe I'm just comparing it to wood hills pier 4, but you don't get much for what you dish out. I might be returning, but only if wood hills is busy and I can't get in. I do still think they're in the earlier stages being so new, so if I do happen to go back, I'll update my review. Was really conflicted between a five and 4 star, but if wood hills pier 4 is a five star, I can't give the block five just yet. read more

We celebrated my husband's birthday at The Block and I'm so glad we picked this restaurant for the occasion. The decor is beautiful, it's modern, hip, moody, the music they were playing was awesome, it fit right in with the decor. The food was amazing! The charcuterie was phenomenal, pig's ear tots genius, the crudo and ceviche tasty, and I highly recommend the coconut sorbet for dessert. So good. Our server, Carlos, was very attentive and friendly. Everyone at The Block really cares about your experience. I'm already looking forward to going back and taking some friends with us. read more

Had one of the worst dining experiences of my life here. Everything started out fine. Service was a bit slow, but not a big deal, and our waiter was nice. The food was decent (small plates/tapas style). All of our dishes came out quickly--except the hanger steak, which never arrived. We finished eating everything else, even joking that the steak might end up being our "dessert." After waiting quite a while, we finally asked about it. The waiter told us it would be ready in 3 minutes but also offered (on his own, without us asking) to remove it from the bill since we were already done eating. We agreed, thanked him, and were actually talking about how much we enjoyed dinner up to that point. Then, out of nowhere, the manager stormed over with the plate of steak in her hands, looking irritated, and said: "So do you want this now or to go? Because you ordered it and it WILL be on your bill." We were shocked by her tone. When we tried to clarify that the waiter himself had offered to remove it, the manager essentially accused us of lying, saying, "That's not what I was told." She went on to lecture us as though we were trying to scam a free dish. The condescension, body language, and overall hostility were humiliating. We're working professionals with busy schedules and we hadn't seen each other all summer, and what should have been a joyful reunion dinner ended with us being berated over a $29 steak (which for the record I hope that tiny portion of steak - see photo-was worth it for her to speak to us like that). (Btw the manager had already packed it to go- it's not like we even wanted it at that point. What could've been a nice dinner turned into one of the most unpleasant experiences I've ever had. The view was nice--but not nice enough to make up for being treated this way. read more

I had heard good things about Woods Hill but wanted something a little lighter for solo dining (dinner #1 of 2), so I booked the Block (right next door), both of which are located on Pier 4. It was about half full on random Thursday night, but reservations are available on resy. Drinks: - Duck season: rum based, with carrot, curry, sparkling water - interesting with the carrot and curry - Arches of Thales: tequila based, with sage syrup and acidified plantain - on the tart side, which I like Food: - Pommes soufflé: 2 hollow crisped potato puffs with cream, topped with caviar - Lions mane mushroom: with crispy sunchoke, sea buckhorn mae ploy (various herbs and leaves) and radishes. The greens help round out and freshen the dish, and it goes with the marinade, which has hints of Asian flavors You can't see much at night, but the daytime view must be amazing. Seaport has changed so much in the last 10 years, and this is a nice new addition to the scene here. read more

Food was disappointing on many levels... the portion size is tiny so we all came out really hungry and some of the food is simply not anywhere near 'complete' in its conceptualization. There was an airy dish with caviar- we thought that was a rating of 1/10. We might as well have eaten foam. We have ceviche all the time wherever we go. The ceviche here had a fairly tasty leche de Tigre sauce. But the protein was probably 2 teaspoons worth! Too little. The portions left us so hungry that we had to go nextdoor to a Greco and eat some food again. Please introduce some filling options in the menu instead. We'll be back if we see the change. read more

Ended up here because Woods Hill had no seats. Fun ambiance with nice cocktails. Sat at the bar so got to watch them cutting the charcuterie meat as we ate which was fun. Service was alright, although it was slightly hectic and small details were missed (cutlery, etc.). Focaccia: thick and fluffy and the whipped lard/EVOO combo it came with was pretty tasty Bluefin tuna crudo: really good and the cherries were an interesting flavor combo that I enjoyed a lot. Small portion Cromesquis: good but wasn't my favorite. Probably would order something else Grass fed short rib: favorite dish. Marinated for 48 hours if I remember correctly? The chimichurri was delicious! Very rare meat so had a few bites that were overly chewy but most of it was very enjoyable Charcuterie: can't remember exactly which meats we ordered but enjoyed it as a starter. Comes on a piece of paper which not sure how I feel about that part. Had to order cheese separately on the side - very tasty but seems like isn't ordered often, as they didn't have cheese knives Overall it's a great swanky date spot. Three of us went for dinner. We planned to eat on the patio, but it was chilly, so we sat at the end of a high top in a quiet back area. Perfect for us. The place is basically tasting plates/tapas style, so part of the challenge is orchestrating a variety of very varied plates so that they make sense together. I started with a Poison Ivy Spritz, with two melon components and some pepper, which basically wiped out most of the melon flavor. Interesting experiment not to be repeated. One of us had the martini flight, a nice visual of three small martini glasses in a metal holder. She liked the standard martini, enjoyed the sweet martini (green with a cherry) but we all agreed it wasn't really a martini and pronounced the pickle juice martini "vile". The kale and roasted roots salad was nice, a counterpoint to the more substantial items that followed. The lobster and 'nduja pierogi was nice, but barely tasted of lobster. The pommes souffle were basically hollow balls of fine crust with a dab of caviar; barely noticeable. Can't recall the tuna crudo at all. The short rib panino was nicely juicy and substantial. The steak frites worked surprisingly well as a small plate and was a good finale. We had coconut "sorbet" (really an ice cream) and liked it. We ordered a tiramisu but were surprised to get a ball of vanilla ice ream with chocolate bits in it; I only saw on the bill later we'd gotten a "sundae softserve" which was good enough had we known it wasn't intended to be a tiramisu. :) One of my friends is a wine expert, so we were predicatly happy with his choice of a Jean-Paul Dubost beaujolais. Food was, the only positive moment of the evening and if food alone was only factor I put into my review The Block would earn glowing accolades. Unfortunately, service made The Block loose 3 stars. Night started off bright, enjoyable. Decent cocktails. The entire experience quickly took a turn when our server who seemed more anxious than empowered, involved the manager. After a dish was offered to be taken off bill, being over 20mins after rest of food was served, manager came out accusing my group of refusing to pay for a dish that was brought to the table. I was shocked to see a manager of a $$$ restaurant come out and be so abrasive to guests without at very least inquiring about situation first. People make mistakes, the dish was forgotten, it should've been a no brainer to remove it. Dining out is not solely about the food, but the experience. Hell the price reflects that service should be at the very least, acceptable. Will be avoiding this place until management/service gets a reality check read more
