We expected the general manager to handle the situation with professionalism and respect, but instead, the way it was handled was just as disappointing. After supporting a restaurant for 15 years, you expect to be treated with basic courtesy and appreciation. Sadly, the hospitality we once knew and loved at Black Cow was nowhere to be found. After scouting several nearby locations, I decided I was in the mood for a great cinnamon roll. Sweet Demi Lune Bakery & Café looked like the place that would deliver the experience I was seeking. SDLBC is listed as being in Glendale, but it's located in the historic Old Town of Montrose. That's beside the point; I only mention it because there are additional places to explore just up the street. We arrived around 3:00 p.m. on a Saturday, and there wasn't much of a selection left, including the highly sought-after cinnamon roll. The gentleman behind the counter greeted us warmly, and I immediately asked if that was all the pastries they had. He said yes. I contemplated leaving because of the nonexistent cinnamon roll, but I didn't want to be rude, so I decided to give the bakery a try since we were already there. So, we basically took half of what remained behind the glass display case: a Peach Almond Croissant, a Raspberry Pistachio Croissant, an Almond Croissant, and then my curiosity focused on a few lonely-looking pastries that were unfamiliar to my discerning eyes. I asked the gentleman what they were, and he replied with something that sounded completely foreign to me: Kouign-Amann. Kouign-Amann (pronounced queen ah-MAHN) is a traditional pastry from the region of Brittany, France. It is often considered one of the richest pastries in the world because it is made with just a few simple ingredients in generous proportions: bread dough, butter, and sugar. Figuring we needed a few more sweets for the road, we took all the remaining Kouign-Amanns. Two were the traditional version, and the other two were filled with crème and blueberry jam. We also ordered a Café Americano and a Café Mocha. While we waited for our drinks, I simply couldn't wait any longer. Like a kid on Christmas morning, I eagerly opened my gift and dug right into the Kouign-Amann. Hesitantly, I tore off a tiny piece with my fingers, expecting nothing extraordinary, and instantly gave birth to a brand-new experience that exploded in my mouth. The crisp exterior gave way to the soft, flaky center, followed by waves of what tasted like delicate honey. I tore off another piece and shared it with my wife. One look at her eyes told me she wanted more. By the time our drinks were ready, we had devoured one of the Kouign-Amanns and confessed to the gentleman behind the counter that we had just experienced pure ecstasy in the form of a pastry. Kouign-Amann is, in fact, one of the richest pastries in the world, so don't let the unfamiliar name keep you from trying one. The Café Americano and the Café Mocha were also exceptionally well prepared. With everything that's happening in the world these days, a simple yet profound experience like this reminded me how wonderful life can still be. Like Arnold said... "I'll be back." Enjoy!

I also tried my wife's beef fajitas, and they had some really good, bold flavors. The vegetables, beef, and seasoning all came together really well. Overall, we've really enjoyed both experiences here. Great Mexican flavors, fresh handmade tortillas, excellent salsa, and food that feels authentic and full of flavor. We'll definitely be back.

We stopped for a coffee and a treat and we were enchanted! The interior of the bakery is all soft blue and white. The display cases are filled with the most beautifully decorated cakes and cupcakes I have ever seen. I treated myself to the luxury of a pistachio macron and a cappuccino. Very decadent! It was a busy Saturday afternoon and customers were continually lining up at the counter. Since it was our first visit to the bakery, I was so absorbed in ogling the display case that I didn't realize that my coffee order had been filled and it was waiting for me at the far end of the counter and my server neglected to return to me to finish my order. But I'll know better next time. We sat at the counter by the front window to watch the passersby and noticed that a Parking Authority agent was very diligent about hopping out of his car and checking every car that parked in front of the bakery to hand out a ticket if anyone failed to purchase a voucher. So beware! I will definitely return to Sipan Bakery every chance that I get to visit my old neighborhood. read more

Have you ever explained to your barber or hair designer exactly how you'd like them to either cut or style your hair, yet they end up doing exactly what they want and nothing like what you ever even asked for.....? I've ordered from this place 3 times already, and each and every single time I have received a completely different order LOL. Not only did I specify what I wanted to eat, I also specified what I did not what in my meal, whatsoever. Yet, all 3 times I've ordered from here, I've received my food and it still contained food I asked not to receive and the rest of the order was completely different than what I asked for. However, I'm not rating this restaurant merely based on the faulty orders (only 1 star), I haven't had the chance to try to meat I actually wanted which was the beef lulu. Naturally, due to the high quality of the ingredients and great tasting food, they tend to get busy. So call and place your order before you pick it up. If you prefer to order at the counter, you'll leave very pleased after you've gotten to know the father/son pair that run the place. They have a rich variety of tasty edibles and are not afraid to give their customers excellent service. I was impressed to say the least. Eat their Falafel once, and you'll never scour L.A. county for a better one again. Their Soujouk sandwich is superb, as are the variety of Boeregs (Meat or Veggie Pies). The worst service I've ever had anywhere from that tattooed guy that works in the front. We ordered arjarski khachapouri and they over cooked the eggs with no cheese . So disgusting I guess people never had real ajarski before that they think this place is good. He offered us everything but our money back because they have no business and need to keep as much money as they can possibly scam people into getting. We drove the food back to him , he looked at it and said he won't return money. Wow , how embarrassing to see a man act that way . i have been a big fan of this cafe and bakery since its new ownership arrived -- started by stopping in for some shakshuka, but then i could not help walk out with peanut butter babka, a donuty/cookie man, rugelach, etc. The baked goods should not be missed -- particularly that babka. I have been coming here for the last two years, not once did the food come out any less than extraordinary. Even for foods I don't like, they convinced me to try and I love their version(falafel). If you don't want to develop an addiction, this is not the place for you. Try their spicy cheese and spinach mashrouha it's friggen delicious. I'm having one now as we speak! When it was time to pay, I asked if they accepted credit cards. She responded that there is a fee for using a credit card and also said the machine sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Because of that, I ended up paying cash. It's really unfortunate because the food is good, but experiences like this are why businesses lose loyal customers. I have tried many times in the past to ignore the poor attitude and not make a big deal out of it, but this time it was just too much. Sadly, I will not be returning. It's disappointing when a business loses long-time customers because of one person at the front.

I've found manti in Los Angeles before, but I haven't come across a fried/crispy version, and that's one of my favorite ways to have manti, so I was especially excited to try these. It took us a while to make it there since it's a little far for us, but I'm so glad we finally did. We ordered the fried dumplings for two - beef Monta dumplings and some cheese börek. Of course, portions can vary from restaurant to restaurant, but we found the overall portion to be a little small for two people. It makes a great appetizer, but I don't think the portion is quite enough for two people as a full meal. That said, they were good! We have a similar dish that we call manti, so finding something that was so familiar in concept, even though the flavors weren't exactly the same, gave me such a comforting feeling. It's a little cafe/restaurant, and one thing I especially loved was the book they had on the counter. It gave the place such a community driven, homey feeling, almost like a grandma making food for her family. There's something about that kind of atmosphere that feels familiar and brings back good memories. If you like manti or want to try these fried dumplings, I definitely recommend giving this little restaurant a try! It's a nice spot for a family meal or even a quick bite.
