Love that this coffee shop is open late and offers unique specialty drinks, bubble tea, and even coffee cocktails! I've tried their coffee julep (espresso with mint and honey) and a cappuccino with milkadamia milk. The mint in the coffee julep was subtle but refreshing, and the drink itself was bold and strong. My cappuccino was also very enjoyable - the milkadamia milk in it was light, smooth, and creamy. I almost forgot I wasn't drinking milk! Beware places with see through glass bathroom doors on unisex bathroom doors. Should you use their facilities take the SECOND door for reasons that'll be very apparent when you go. Now, on to the review. I had a medium vanilla latte, extra hot which was pretty good. My daughter had an iced caramel coffee which she did not like but the decor was cafe shop like and the wait staff, a man and a woman who were even nicer to one another and to me and my group made all the difference in the world. There's seating outside too at really small tables I might add but on nice day there's a certain ambiance to it that adds to the feel of the joint. Perhaps you might get a gentle nudge like "you actually want that or a chain house version of that" to make sure you know what you're ordering. This is all good. Hang out and enjoy some wi-fi while you inhale the aroma, come early with the shakers/movers to beat the rush, then head to your millennial job for some foosball. Or maybe hang around another couple hours until the students fire up their Macs to finish their online homework. My French press was smooth and served as a fine substitute for pour-over this day, and the barista was accommodating when I changed from "here" to "go" after my mug was ready. One of my favorite things to do when visiting a new city is to explore the local, hipster coffee shop. I enjoy going there as I get to see all the things that were popular 20 years ago and have since been refurbished into art projects and overpriced gifts and accessories. Walking in, there was a cool vibe and a lot of thick rimmed glasses which tipped me off that I was on the right track. The menu was diverse and had a lot of different types of coffee, many of had flavors I had never heard of before nor could I pronounce. The barista was not particularly helpful but did answer a few questions for us. When it came time to order I got some seasonal thing with pumpkin in it because I refused to acknowledge fall was over and my wife got a mocha drink because she knows I love mocha and was anticipating that I was going to ask for a sip and never give it back. We were disappointed that despite the fact the menu did not say her drink had any milk or dairy in it, it did when it came out. Fortunately I was able to drink as I anticipated. Overall it is a cool stop but seems to be just a generic hipster coffee shop, serving caffeinated beverages for $5 a drink due to a surcharge for the ambiance. read more

They play the music pretty loudly and people certainly use this space just as much to socialize as they do to work. Cute place and in a good location. I went at 7/7:30am and not busy at all. The customer service was "okay" but the bathroom was clean. I had the coffee imperial to drink (10 out of 10) and I had a waffle with cinnamon sugar (7 out of 10). The waffle should be ate as soon as it comes out, not great once it cools. Also the cinnamon sugar for the waffle isn't powder, it's thick and I wasn't a fan. read more

Been here a couple of times in the last few weeks. I had an awesome Vietnamese coffee the first time. It had a very powerful flavor and initially struck me as too sweet, but I liked more and more after each sip. The second time I had a hazelnut latte with almond milk. It had a very nutty taste, but was still enjoyable. They have some outdoor seating, which is great for summer nights. They have a really interesting menu with cocktails and even bubble tea. I braced myself for some possible brusqueness from the staff based on some reviews, but everyone was super nice. My kid took forever to decide what sweet treat he wanted and the woman at the register was very patient. He decided on a muffin and I decided on a blackberry caramel latte from their spring seasonal menu, given that no less than 3 people in front of me ordered it. It came impressively quickly and needed no added sweetener, not surprisingly given that it's a caramel latte. And WOW, it was amazing - my son said, "Mom, you drank that SO fast!" I don't know if he was impressed or disgusted, but it was definitely a dessert drink (I mean, if I was in need of a pick-me-up I wouldn't be ordering a coffee that sounds more like a cheesecake, now, would I). He liked his muffin, it was a beautiful day, and they have a lovely little courtyard in between the cafe and the gelato place, so if coffee isn't the thing for some in your group, then you can make more people happy. Parking is paid on the street and we found a spot right in front on a Tuesday afternoon. One additional thing - when I checked my emailed receipt, I saw that I was charged for a different drink, so I went to the register to make sure I didn't overpay or that I didn't screw over the cafe. It ended up that I was charged $.50 less than what I should have been, and I was happy to pay the change, but the woman waved it away and said, "Just run," which made me glad that I tipped them. We visited Sir Walter on two occasions while celebrating a birthday weekend in Raleigh. On the first visit we went into Sir Walter specifically to try their boba teas. On first site we noticed that this place is fairly popular and clean. Folks were lounging, doing work and chilling out listening to Sir Walters musical mix. It's a coffee house/bar/remote public workspace containing great seating inside and out with a calming atmosphere. I had a good lavender bubble tea and the lady got a hot matcha latte that she loved. On our second visit there was a different team working - one guy seemed to be doing majority of the work while 3 others floated around him not providing much help from what I could tell. He did pretty well though and made great drinks. Street side parking available. read more

Stopped in for a drink on New Year eve before the acorn drop. Drinks where great!! Have been here several times before during the morning and afternoon never in the evening. I must just make 1 comment the guy who attended us this time. If an artisanal coffee shop, a trendy intimate cocktail bar, and a remote public workspace company had a collaboration, this would be it. Super creative concept that works. Almost all the drinks can be made with or without alchohol, though the spiked version of things will run you another $6 to the base price in alot of cases. I have to VPN into my companies intranet and I had no issues. Very stable internet. This is my new spot since moving to this side of town. I use to frequent Sola Coffee when I was up in north Raleigh. This will be my replace and upgrade. It's not as big but it definitely has the same level of distinctive personality. What a cute spot! Perfectly located across from the gelato spot (on purpose, perhaps?!) a truly delightful spot to take a break from exploring the quaint Raleigh area. The atmosphere is chill with low lighting and grey walls, with an accent wall and splashes of orange about. The baristas were clearly busy on this Sunday afternoon but maintained a sunny disposition and asked about my day, which was sweet. This is one the better coffee shops in Downtown Raleigh. First things first, they open early EVERYDAY. A lot of coffee shops in Raleigh don't open until later on Sundays. That is what brought me to Sir Walter Coffee. 1) The staff is really nice and friendly. They are attentive to everyone that walks through the door. 2) The food and drinks are really reasonable in price. 3) I had the bacon egg and cheese bagel. I ordered mine without any cheese and it was great. The bacon was as crispy as a matchstick, which is how I like it. The egg was cooked all the way through so there was no doubt that everything was made right. 4) I had the Sir Walter Six. That drink woke me right up, like a light bulb being plugged in. The second cup of coffee I had was a regular cup and there was sugar and half-n-half available. 5) The wifi is free and its pretty fast. Side bars- It is cold in there, bring a jacket. You had me at Sir Walter! The historical reference to Sir Walter Raleigh is all I needed to try this coffee house. My expectations were not disappointed. Here is what they have to drink: Fancy pants drinks (coffee julep, Sir Walter six, queens guard, city of oaks) that I think are mostly intended for spiking with alcohol, which they have! Classic espresso offerings and nitro iced coffee on tap, for the traditional coffee lovers like myself. Tea options as well! I particularly enjoyed the great music (classic r&b of motown along with current selections), a variety of indoor and outdoor seating, and a clean bathroom. I chatted with the baristas (who were busily cleaning, always a good sign) about what drinks are the most requested. Vietnamese coffee and the charcoal additive to drinks as a detox agent (I guess that is a big thing). Lots of variety, definitely check it out in you are nearby. Really neat coffee shop! I like the vibe of the place. The interior is spacious and has plenty of spots to work at or you can hangout outside on their patio. Their menu is super expansive for a coffee shop. They have all the regular coffee shop items then a whole bunch of specialty drinks. They even make tea cocktails! The addition of the cocktails makes it a great low key place to stop by afterwork for a drink. As others have mentioned they also have Bubble Tea. I got the black tea bubble tea and while it was delicious it was super sweet. They also sell these mini biscuits and a few baked goods if you are looking for something to eat. The biscuits are made by a baker in Charleston, they were pretty tasty! Parking tends to be easier on this side of downtown, so I usually don't have a problem finding a spot within a block or two.
