My oh my, I can't say enough about this place. Sir Walter is by far one of my favorite coffee places in Raleigh because of its location and the atmosphere. The outdoor area is adorable, especially in the summertime. They have a good amount of seating, the staff is so nice and are always willing to recommend something, which I love. Everyone was super friendly and the environment was super chill. I loved how the music just kept me so upbeat and relaxed--I literally could've stayed there all day and felt right at home. Hat-Trick! It's hard to imagine a place where the coffee, the food AND the service are all terrible. We tried the red velvet latte because it was on the specials board and also had the chicken salad. The chicken salad had such a bad aftertaste that it was not edible. The latte was equally terrible and had a chalky taste. The latte and chicken salad joined one another in the trashcan. I was super excited about visiting this new venue. My boyfriend and I sat at the bar to order a round of drinks. Unfortunately the female bartender refused to acknowledge me or speak to me , passed me my drink once it was made, without a word or eye contact. There was no check in, and while I asked to close out my tab at the beginning , I didn't receive my check until we were leaving. They have a very distinct sign that says 20% gratuity for open tabs. I've been to Sir Walter multiple times, and have always left feeling a little eh about it. Yesterday I decided to go again, since I know they have a big menu of fall drinks and I was in the mood for something fall. I won't be coming back. Yesterday, I decided on an iced graham cracker latte. When I tasted the drink I could tell it was made with a non-dairy milk. I was confused because I didn't order a different kind of milk, and I don't like any non-dairy milk. I went back to look at the menu to see if I misread the drink and if it said it came with oat milk. The 3 people working noticed and asked if I needed something. I asked what kind of milk was the drink, they said the graham cracker latte has oat milk. I replied "oh the menu doesn't say that, and I don't drink oat milk". The barista said "yeah it doesn't say....do you want us to make you something else". I said yes, and asked for a pumpkin latte. While I was waiting for the new drink, 2 of the workers separately offered to throw out the old drink. I replied both times that I was going to see if my husband (who was waiting in the car) wanted the drink. They both looked at me strangely, as if I was wrong to see if someone wanted the drink I paid $6 for instead of handing it to them to throw out. I don't know if they thought I was trying to get a free drink, but it made me uncomfortable. Sir Walter is not a bad place, but I've found other coffee shops nearby that offer a consistently higher quality coffee. read more

This place is probably one of the most famous local coffee shops in Raleigh. The set up is really cute with ample outdoor space for social distancing! I've come here maybe 3-4 times and the coffee has always been great! The prices are quite reasonable (comparable to Starbucks) and they serve an array of hot food as well. It really lost points for me on its internet speed. As a cafe people come to get work done and the WiFi needs to be fast! Unfortunately the WiFi was slower than my phones hotspot. The previous times I've been here I have not really needed the WiFi to be that strong but if you want to get any substantive work done with WiFi, I don't recommend coming here. If your looking for a place to chill, maybe read a book then this is the place for you. Edit: 10/27 it doesn't seem like they are enforcing social distancing inside - tables are right next to each other (people can sit literally inches away from each other)!!! I really wish they removed or blocked out tables to really do their part in preventing the spread. Quite disappointed. read more

I sat at the bar, ordered a coffee and a drink and then when I finally got someone's attention to ask to order food they told me I had to go stand in line to order. So I had to ask the person across from me to watch my laptop and things so I could go order. My food came out pretty quickly and was very tasty. But then, in order to pay my tab, I had to pack up my things and then go stand, again, in a line of about 8-10 people just to pay. It was just a very odd set up. I would have given this place 4 stars but unfortunately, I overstayed my welcome and decided to order something off of the food menu as I was getting hungry and, being a Sunday, not much else was open. I will start off on a positive note. The affrogato was near perfect ($5) and the London Fog tea latte did not disappoint ($4.75). The coffee custard was good but overpriced at $4 for a 4 oz. (?) serving. Now, for the warning: one of the worst cases of price gouging ever! I ordered the breakfast burrito which was pathetic. I'm pretty sure I could have done better at one of the more well-known fast food joints. I paid $8 (!) dollars for a small, stale flour tortilla with a few bits of egg and even less cheese. Absolutely terrible! I should have demanded my money back after the first bite (I had to struggle mightily to even tear it off). It was also supposed to come with fruit which I did not get (what, a lame slice of orange?). The salsa was at least good. I also ordered an iced black tea with a shot of blackberry syrup. Again, $4 for a 12 oz.glass of average tea is a little steep. Overall, a disappointing and unsatisfying experience. Avoid ordering food here at all costs unless you like to waste your money on crappy, subpar food. Next time, I will stick to Starbucks. P.S. The bandwidth for the wifi is absolute shit. Absolutely darling coffee shop located in downtown Raleigh. The interior is modern and urban with many seating options, indoor and outdoor. They've got quite a selection of drinks, from specialty in-house coffee drinks, to tea drinks, and beer. Not sure if they also serve wine, but I wouldn't be surprised if they do. They also serve food, but I didn't get to try any of that. I got the coffee julep ($6) and requested it to be decaf because that's how I roll and it was so delicious. Such a unique mixture of coffee, honey, and mint-- and served with a fresh mint leaf--it was so refreshing and yummy. I wish it was bigger! Long review, but people need to know- the people here ruin the experience and you just shouldn't feel like an unwelcome patron...avoid this place ...it has toxic and gross written all over it. The coffee and drinks are good, but that's where it ends... Staff does NOT want to be there. Always cussing behind the bar. I've heard them taking about staff, customers who are literally sitting right there, and saying kids aren't welcome. I've sat at the bar enough to hear all kinds of things.... Management is rude. I've seen them take calls and not even listen, but yell and say to stop calling...theyre also very rude to customers. I've been in enough to also have noticed the owner- he gravitates toward some customers and oozes about how rich he is... thing is...I have heard what theyre paid... so ...I know they don't get treated well at all... They can't seem to hold on to a staff. I get the transition from summer to fall, but I've noticed the only very nice staff members either left or got fired(who knows which). It appears anyone who is a remotely kind or happy human leaves or gets fired. People vape behind the bar, charge their vapes all day, and have outfits way out of appropriate code...and theyre always touching their hair(esp the guys). I also wanted to try the Halloween challenge, but one staff member was VERY rude to me about it and another time, I was told the drink was disgusting. Why would I pay $6 for something foul? I've noticed some people make excellent drinks- my go to girl doesn't appear to work there anymore - (she disappeared the day after my last amazing cocktail.
