Yummy! I wouldn't have came here if it weren't for Yelp! This place was tucked away and a little hard to find and this speaks truth to not judging a book by its cover. I walked in confused with the fresh seafood provided along with Chinese and Korean dishes offered. Some dishes only available for lunch or dinner depending on what you ordered. I was starving and decided I wanted Chinese and seafood. I ordered the shrimp fried rice and a side of seafood salad. OMG delicious. The shrimp in the fried rice was so fresh and delicious! The fried rice was not greasy and cooked to perfection. The seafood salad was of krab me a and shrimp mixed with celery and apples. Neat little hole in the wall place that doesn't look like much but the food is incredible. I got the shrimp fried rice and my husband got the fish and shrimp with fries and rice. The shrimp fried rice was delicious and very fresh. My husband really liked the fish, shrimp, and fries, but he said the rice was super dry and I think the lady made it in the microwave when we ordered. Dissapointing. When I saw the restaurant labeled as 'Korean' I was really expecting actual Korean food. I was sadly disappointed when I walked in to find that EVERYTHING here is fried. I even asked if they could could grill anything, and the nice Korean lady said the only thing grilled was the shrimp in the shrimp fried rice. So I tried that, the fried scallops, and the dumplings. The scallops were decent and the dumplings were passable, but the fried rice was literally dripping with grease. I picked out all the shrimp and they were fine but the fried rice was the greasiest fried rice I've ever seen and I couldn't eat much of it. So if you're looking for a place for fried seafood and a couple very Americanized Asian dishes you may like this place. If you're looking for Korean food or anything resembling a healthy food option, stay away. A caveat of this review is I only ate the seafood they prepared, the fresh seafood they sold to go looked quite good so I can't knock that. read more

You need to try this place! I'll bet you become a regular. The seafood is fresh, cooked properly and just down right tasty. You can't beat the prices either. For just under $10 I got the fish and shrimp and I could not finish it. The family that runs it is also great, the lady is so sweet and makes sure you are a happy customer. Found this place by doing a search for "Korean" food on yelp, and since I do like the k-pop group "Sistar" (main reason) I decided to check the place out. I was pleasantly surprised by the price and quality of the seafood....and reminded of how much the cost of living sucks in the bay area/California. Wouldn't mind moving here, but I don't want to melt. Everything tasted fresh. The items I had when I visited were the Korean Fried Rice (as a Korean, it reminds me of what mother makes), the Dinner Combo (fresh!), and the Kimchee. For people who haven't tried the kimchee, it probably won't be too bad. The owner didn't make it too spicy or strong...very tame flavors and didn't add stuff that probably won't cause bad breath haha. The owners are nice and cheerful, and got to know them a little when speaking Korean with them. If I ever visit this area again for work, I'll probably stop by. read more

I tried SiStar for the first time last night and was very pleasantly surprised. The prices are great, service is excellent and the food is delicious. My boyfriend and I arrived about an hour before closing and were greeted warmly. Since we had never been, we asked about the popular dishes and were given a run down of the menu. I'm so glad I got to stop by at this place before I left Virginia. You can't find a lot of Korean BBQ places in VA, and especially not a place that is exceptionally delicious. I went here based on the yelp reviews and I figured I arrived at the right place when I saw the line out the door. The line moved fast and within 10 minutes, I placed my order. The lady at the cashier was so friendly and welcoming. We ordered the bulgogi, shrimp fried rice, seafood dinner platter, and a pound of spiced shrimp. It is mainly a to go location, but they do have tables and chairs if you decide to eat there. We were hungry so we couldn't wait! Holy moly! This place was great. Of course you are eating at one of a handful of tables in an actual working seafood market so don't expect much by way of ambiance. Service is via the counter and you bus your own tables. The seafood was great and the Korean bulgogi was as good as the rice side dish. this place has been around for a bit and I was always nervous to try it since I was a previous customer of another seafood place. However, I am SO glad I did! my brother and I got 1.5lbs of spiced shrimp heavy on the spice, and 2 dozen #1 male crabs. all of it was awesome! crabs are full of meat! spiced and steamed to perfection! and the customer service was awesome! crabs and shrimp are steamed while you are there so there was maybe a 20 minute wait but I did not mind at all. I decided to stop by SiStar Seafood for lunch during the week. Once I enter the seafood shop, a lady working behind the counter said "OMG, you're so tall. I know you played basketball" lol she was really sweet. I always appreciate nice and down to earth owners/employees. Korean BBQ is the reason I came to SiStar Seafood (read some reviews).I knew Korean BBQ was a no brainer but choosing sides wasn't as easy. The lady recommended I try Bulgogi with steamed rice and kimchi. She said "the rice and spice from kimchi blends well with the Bulgogi". I'm glad she recommended the Bulgogi and sides because my meal was delicious. The Bulgogi was marinated and cooked very well. The sweetness from the Bulgogi and spiced kimchi was prefect together. The steamed white rice brings everything together in my opinion. If you like cabbage, I recommend trying kimchi with your meal (not overly spicy). The meals do not come with a drink. SiStar Seafood is located in a small strip mall near the intersection of Laburnum & Williamsburg Rd. The shop sells cooked meals and fresh seafood. I hesitate to spread the word on Si-Star because its one of those places that you wouldn't try unless somebody you trust sent you there. It has a loyal local following but I've never seen it crowded. It might be the cleanest smelling seafood store I've ever been in. All the retail seafood items look fresh, iced, and well cared for. The dining area isn't much to look at but its clean and neat. The Korean couple who run the place are as nice and friendly as can be. She runs the register and he does the cooking. Over the half dozen times I've eaten there she's told me what sides I should order and how many cocktail sauces I need. You will order rice with your Bulgogi or hear about it. I came in for lunch and dinner and lunch the next day and she remembered what I ordered each time. All in good fun. The Bulgogi is the best I've ever had. I may have eaten in 10 Korean restaurants in my travels and this is my favorite. It is very lean, very tender, perfectly seasoned, and had that hint of charcoal flavor. It takes a minute or two longer but its worth the wait. The shrimp fried rice is excellent too. The kimchi is a favorite. I'm particularly fond of the daikon version. I wanted some of each with my bulgogi the night I was told that I had to order white rice. I'm in the airport part of Richmond a couple of weekends a month with the National Guard. I like Si-Star better than any of the chains in the area. I think I could eat their Bulgogi every day. With white rice of course.. read more

I ordered a fish sandwich, crabs and fish plate today. The fish was bland and needed seasoning. I noticed that my crabs had funny after taste and a weird seasoning on it. While they don't offer a huge variety of dishes (the menu in the image gallery is out of date), what they do have is absolutely delicious. However what makes this place so absolutely amazing are the people who work there. Not only are they the kindest and most friendly people you will ever hope to meet in your lives, but they genuinely enjoy what they do- which is probably why the food tastes as good as it does. They put a lot of love into what they do and it shows. The location also offers some seafood items in general, but I didn't get a good look at what they were currently selling. I know that they do sell various types of fish and shellfish from what I could see. I'd recommend going to them if you're looking for seafood, not only because they are nice but also because they don't have the "seafood smell" that you get in some of the chain grocery stores. (If you've ever walked by a Wal-mart seafood section then you'll know what I mean by this!) SiStar is a very clean location, which I like. read more
