Sister? More like Brother. As in oh brother another hipster bar. That being said I will go over the positives. Nice size to the place. Has dance area, outside area and pool and foosball. I got my drinks really fast every time so was impressed by the service. Now to the bad. The crowd was typical hipsters and the music was pathetic. Might go as far to say false advertisement. I went on Valentine's which was supposed to be slow jams night. The music was not even slow and most certainly was not a jam. Some of what I heard was more like house music. Not saying this is a bad bar but don't expect anything more than what it is. And in the future don't advertise a certain type of music and water it down and pander. May give this place another try just because how fast i got my drinks. read more

The beer selection is pretty wide, but they were out of Guinness when I went. I had wanted to order a Guinness cocktail that I'd seen on the menu online, but there was no sign of the drink on the actual menu. In fact, the online menu and the actual menu were quite different and it threw me off because I'd been so prepared. That's when I just ordered a Guinness. I couldn't have gotten the intriguing cocktail anyway since they were out of Guinness, so I ordered one of the nitro beers on special instead. It was delicious and reasonably priced, and the bartenders were quietly rushing around in a very focused manner, which I appreciated (I sat at the bar). I was confused when I was carded out in front, because the guy was sitting at a table by the entrance eating and he didn't seem legit. He took my ID and said "Hmm, looks like we have a Scorpio on our hands..." so I just took my ID back and told him he didn't seem very legitimate. He just laughed and didn't try to reassure me that he did actually work there, so I walked in without another word. If he didn't work there, it was pretty embarrassing. If he did work there, he's a creepy and unprofessional bouncer. I still to this day don't know if he was an employee or not, but I wasn't asked for my ID again after that so I assume he was. I attended for soul night, which I'd heard was really happening (and no cover!). I was looking forward to dancing! Maybe I didn't stay late enough. The DJ was there spinning vinyl and Soul Train was playing on the TV, but...no one danced the entire time. It was pretty dead. I'll have to go back to soul night next month and give it another shot, and hopefully have a better experience and give a better rating! read more

Extremely disappointing and physically uncomfortable experience. I ordered their tater tots with NO GREEN ONIONS due to a food allergy, but apparently was served with the green onions anyway. Swollen tongue and lip blisters for days. I wrote management about this twice, with zero response. The lack of acknowledgement from their management is appalling. We will not be back. read more

I've been here before for parties and music, but never just to hang out. I'd also never had their food. I got there at a reasonable time -around 5 PM- and the place was nice and relaxed. Completely different atmosphere than I am used to at Sister. I liked it far more than when it is completely packed and noisy. I decided to order some tacos. I was more than pleasantly surprised. House-made ingredients, good quality, delicious and filling. The Asian pork (with homemade kimchi!) was amazing. Simple, fresh, and just plain yummy. The brisket taco is packed with flavor and comes with just the right amount of salsa. The carnitas taco is delicious, and has the perfect compliments (such as radish) tossed in to give it a full flavor. Three tiny tacos later, I was so full I can barely move. At $2-3 dollars each ($2 on Tuesdays, of course), you really can't beat it. Next time, I'm going to try their fries and tater tots that come with an array of toppings- from poutine inspired to kimchi and cheddar. I'm extremely excited to try both. I had never tried their specialty cocktails before, and decided to give it a try. The El Chapo (complete with a "cocaine" line of salt down the side) was spicy, sweet and refreshing, all rolled into one. Tequila and roasted jalapenos should always go together. I also got the Darryl Strawberry, which is pretty much happiness in a glass if you like whiskey. They are expensive for the size (tiny drinks. Big price.) but they are high quality and delicious. It is a little Hipster-y, yes, but for good drinks and good food -and a nice relaxed atmosphere, it's not bad at all. read more

I think it's great that i can walk into the most popular bar downtown in the middle of the day and order a set of delicious tacos. i love that they have arcade games (720 skateboarding, NES classic :)) and let you play foosball just for being a customer. i like beer (generally) OK, but i'm not a big bar guy. they do the bar scene full well, but they have all other great amenities to make "booze-is-ok" people like me still have a great time. for this reason, they get a 5. it's also edgy and weird thus reminds me of home. just the right amount of grunge! read more

So funny thing, it was mine and my friends first time coming here on Monday night and we walked passed two times since the sign was so small for it lol! It was literally right across from where we parked! Anyways though we went in and ordered a cocktail from the bar each and made it a goal to try every one and we did! The bartenders were so sweet and friendly and the drinks were FANTASTIC. There wasn't one that we didn't enjoy. I will say though my personal favorite was this black mamba one which I know isn't the correct full name but IT WAS SO GOOD! I love craft bars like this though that pretty much put love in every drink. As for the actual setting of the place, the atmosphere was super cool and there are pinball machines all over! All in all me and my friend both live out of town or out of state and we will be coming back someday. read more

It's a fun spot, I like that it's very open, has all the games you want to play while drinking, and isn't overcrowded. I don't like the creepy dolls behind the shuffleboard table but that's it's. I'm a fan of the quality beers they have on tap from local brews to the nectar of the Belgian gods, Delirium. My go to spot downtown. read more

This would be a cool bar even if I hadn't seen acts like Run The Jewels and Blockhead here. Sister offers a great drink selection and lots of fun games (shout out shuffle puck). The one downside is that the service here seems to try to derail how cool the place is. The bartenders are consistently rude and I've even seen one take money from a friend of mine and come back and insist he hadn't paid yet. But I keep coming back so it obviously isn't that bad and it is definitely one of my favorite places to see a concert in Albuquerque! read more

On the plus side they do have a decent drink list and attentive servers, however everything else stinks. Bar is very dark, bathrooms are filthy, not a lot of seating and no food. Don't go there to see a show and absolutely don't try to put a show on here! Manager tends to get drunk and harass performers backstage and employees wont remove the manager. My friends dragged me here kicking and screaming, not really, but since leaving ABQ I usually only want to eat at my old favorites and there isn't room for anything new. However, since I was staying downtown at the Andaluz and this place is within walking distance I decided to give it go. When we first walked in, I was annoyed, it was super loud for a Sunday morning. I get that it's a bar, but after being up late and drinking the night before I was really wanting a more chill atmosphere, we found a quieter table in the back away from most of the commotion and that helped a lot. At first glance I was not impressed by the menu, I was all ready to split something with my husband and then jam over to Golden Pride for a burrito. Here's where it gets interesting... I WAS WRONG! I had the avocado toast and it was so freaking delicious. I loved the two different slices with different toppings, it was very tasty and very affordable. I'm glad I tried something new and I think my friends were relieved I didn't hate it. read more

wow.. i really wanted to like this place... i even went twice to see if it was just a one-time thing..... unfortunately somewhat rude, hipster, tattooed, pretentious bar staff can over-shadow a good selection of beer.... now not everyone here left a bad taste in my mouth.. but a few people rubbed us the wrong way...they seemed to have this "too cool for school" vibe.. but guess what.. u are in the service industry... too bad! im not sure how people here were hired.. if one guy didnt know about beer ("i only drink stouts so i cant say much about those beers" said our bartender) and was rude... i dont see why he's working there. the last experience just was one thing after the next. We came on a pretty empty evening. A person in our group ordered a beer that didnt taste very good (it was like this sweet grapefruit almost beer tasting beer)... he was ok with drinking it but he made a comment to the bar tender like "you should prob warn people about this beer being weird when they order it".... welll anyway just making conversation with the bartender .. he then said to our friend basically that he is stuck with the beer..and "are you gonna close out because other people are waiting on me".. like WOAH..sorry for trying to talk to you...there were maybe 3-4 other people at the bar... not busy at all..also many places would offer to replace the beer with something else if you clearly didnt like it..though we didn't ask this... then me and my husband ordered two beers that were $6 each. he said it was going to be $13 dollars so my husband said, isnt it $12? then hes like "oh ok sorry yeah... ". .. so we gave him $15 dollars and he gave us $2 back and walked away... we really didnt want to deal with him again so we were the bigger person and still gave him $2 tip since he assumed he gave us the right change... he seemed already pissed at us that we corrected him. then we go to the fooseball table... we set our beers on the four corners of the table because there wasnt anywhere else to put them. then another guy yelled at us for putting our beers on the table.. like... really? it's a bar? there was no other place next to it to PUT the beers and u need two hands to play the game.. maybe have a sign saying that..because i have a feeling we werent the only people who thought to put our beers on the corners of the table.. since again.. this is a bar... wow.. i didnt want to rant but looks like i just did... sorry sister bar... not sure if i'm ready to give you another chance.. read more

Once upon a time, when they first opened, you wouldn't find my friends and I anywhere else. They played great music, had good service, and generally a good crowd. As of late, I find myself more frustrated than anything when I visit this bar. The service is generally good. But the amount of time you wait and are ignored at the bar by a few of their bartenders can really get irritating. I can understand if the bartenders are busy, but when they look you in the eye, start washing dishes and once finished walk to the other end of the bar and stand around it can really start to wear on you. The things they have going for them are they tend to host really great events and bring awesome music to the city. All is all, if you aren't going to see a band that you really like, or you don't dress like a hipster on the daily I would avoid the busy nights like Thursday- Saturday. Otherwise give a try and play some corn hole or shuffle board. read more

After my friend and I paid $30 to go listen to a touring band from Texas. The bouncers decided that we needed to leave not even 20 minutes after we got there. I got kicked out and literally had only been there for half an hour, they claimed I was "drunk", which I wasn't. I didn't start a fight, steal anyone's drink, or do anything to cause me to get kicked out. These beefcakes then told me I needed to leave, I asked why do I have to leave? I traveled 4 hours to attend this show and there was no way I was leaving without seeing the band I paid to come see. I asked if I could say bye to a friend, and they told me "No, you need to leave now." They then proceeded to shove me in the back, which caused me to trip and fall. They started kicking me and pulling me by my arms to drag me out, due to me struggling to get up. I had twisted my ankle and scratched up my knee all during this altercation. My arms and legs were bruised and banged up from them grabbing me and dragging me out. It was pretty embarrassing and I won't ever support a music venue like Sister bar, that claims to be feminist. These poor excuses for men shouldn't even be working there, if they don't know how to be civil and help someone when they fall, instead of kicking and shove them out the door. Thank god, my friend came to my rescue and told them to get their hands off me. Really beautiful bar, but shitty bouncers with bad attitudes can really ruin a nice establishment. read more

This is weeks late, my apologies to the Sister's Staff. We were looking for Sunday Brunch and ended up in a coffee house on Central Blvd. The barista recommended Sister's and we were pleasantly surprised to find they did service Sunday brunch. The food was good and supports a gluten free diet. Wait staff were attentive and very busy that day. Overall I appreciated the good ole rock and roll atmosphere. Playing the old arcade games brought back memories of good times and will return. Clientele was a diverse mix and had the appearance of a family gatherings. read more

Let me start by saying that the bar itself is great, it offers yummy food, music, and a great bar. However considering the location you can expect some interesting characters; these include, the pelvic thrusting dancing guy that was staring at me my entire meal, the screaming guy, and the loud annoying Harley biker driving in circles making a completely unnecessary amount of noise. In my nearing 70 years on this planet, I have never in my life gotten tossed out of a bar. Having paid for our tickets, after spending a couple of hours or more at Sister Bar, 20 minutes before Baracutanga was scheduled to play, the manager asked us to leave after we complained that the servers had picked up our nearly full glasses of pinot grigio when we got up on the dance floor and returned to find the drinks gone. The manager at Sister bar said it is the "industry standard," that they are not responsible for unattended drinks. (That explains why so many fools dance with their sticky drinks in hand, sloshing onto the floor.) Well, no one ever told us we had to hold our drinks or rest a napkin (that was never supplied to us) over the drink so the servers would not take them. I have never witnessed such an industry standard. I suppose it was also industry standard to toss ticket paying customers out on the street because we complained. A proper response would have been, "Here is a complimentary glass of wine and a napkin. Please follow the protocol of industry standard and place the napkin over the drink if you leave it to go to the dance floor." No customer satisfaction here and buyer beware. Yes, we missed the 10 year celebration. The worst of it was our friend Jesse and his companion were also tossed out for sharing the table with us. They had knowingly covered there drinks that remained on the table when we all got ejected together. We will never step foot in Sister Bar, that immensely rude denizen of drink thieves, again. read more

Been going here for years and recently had two really horrible experiences. First gave a bartender who was charging a flat fee of $5.00 on every drink order he got (which I'm pretty sure is not a standard practice for the top shelf liquors people were buying) a $50.00 on a $10.00 charge for two drinks and the kid gives me back $10.00, so I tell him "hey I gave you a $50.00" he refused to address it and said like a stubborn 8 year old "no you didn't" I asked him to check his register and he still refused. Next four of my friends and I went to an event paid a cover charge ordered a total of 3 rounds, it's 12:30 and we went outside to smoke left our full newly purchased drinks with the door man and smoked in the designated area, went to go back in and were refused re-entry, we were coherent, not rude or loud, denied re entry. We asked why and were told we were cut off whilst other stumbling drunk fools were allowed in. We asked for a refund on our full drinks and we were also denied that. We were all nowhere near intoxicated and even pointed out that we were using Uber. I will not spend my money in this establishment again while little boys grossly abuse their power trips as bartenders and door guys. Shitty. read more

Upon entry I was greeted by the bouncer. Due to my fair complexion and what you could call a "baby face", he insisted he needed to see my ID. Granted he's just doing his job I felt a bit insulted as I am 21 and 2 months old. He gave me the nod and proceeded to let me in. Looking back his nod may have been hinting at more that come inside ( or maybe it ment exactly that ) Alas I walk into what I thought to be a subpar "dive" "bar", to find it wasn't as shitty as I thought. The pungent smell of alcohol and charred ciggys made me feel right at home. I walked right up to the dreadlocked bartender and asked for a tall glass of his finest Coors Light ™. To my surprise he told me there is in fact only one type of Coors Light ™ and it comes in a bottle. No problem I said and proceed to chug that ice cold beer and belched a nice one to the fine young lady next to me, I told her to give my compliments to the chef‍. I looked over the menu and landed on the vegetarian burrito. After waiting for what seemed to be hours, it finally came. I smashed that burrito. It was so good it made my small vegetarian nuts tingle! As soon as the godawful garage, psych rock band started playing, I decided to bounce. Being that this establishment is a whole 3 miles from my house I doubt I'll ever be back. read more

Pretty neat little Hipsteree little hole in the wall in an unlikely town. It is filled with much wonderment! It is a place where I come to escape the stress of life. Sister, aka Sister bar is a place where all the Careerless Bernie Boppers can come together and join hands under one safe space. It is fun; they have great trigger-free utopian vibe; and they also have a great beer selection!! So why just give it one star, you ask? Whelp (not yelp), the bar tenders on a good day will carelessly attend to your needs usually within 11-13 minutes of staring at them from 3-4 feet away. This is fine, I get it! Your busy and the line of people staring at you are just a metric, a drink. You don't see people. You see a task..and that's fine I will wait.. the part that I don't get is why must they actively ignore? Yes I order a beer, but I also want a taco! And because of your pissy attitude I waited 12 minutes to order my simple brew, and before I could order my taco, I was ignored! Shunned!! Alas, I must wait another 12 minutes to order my taco and by then, I will also require another beer which i will inevitably wait another 12 minutes to order... It is a great bar and the food is wonderful. I am not a bar person but my daughter and I went in on a saturday afternoon when it was not very busy (early afternoon). The bar tenders were very nice young men. I loved the video games along the wall and everything we tried from the menu was excellent. I can't rate the drinks since I don't consume alcohol so someone else will have to do that. read more

Sister bar is not only my favorite bar, but my favorite place downtown. They have a decent menu for quick eats and a huge beer selection. They have funky cocktails perfected by Jayo and great live music. The stage and floor space is kind of awkward if you are sitting at the bar but there is no better way for them to have situated the establishment in that space. The bathrooms are clean and there is always toilet paper and soap! There is frequently a cover but if you see the folks who hang out in the streets, you'll understand why. The art changes up and they invite a few vendors so you always have a fun experience. They even have some old arcade games if that suits your fancy. With indoor and outdoor seating, you'll be pleased with your options. You can even bring your dog to the outside seating for a relaxed brunch. Sister seems to pull a calmer 30-somethings crowd so don't come here if you plan on bumping and grinding and doing lots of shots. This ain't the place for you. They do have dance nights but more for 80s tunes and moves. The concerts are fun here and they do get some pretty notable artists. Just like anywhere downtown, parking is not the most convenient but if you plan on drinking, take a cab or uber. read more
