Everything we ordered was sooooo good I don't think you can't go wrong with anything on the menu we had the Butter Chicken so flavorful and the spice was just right Tikka Masala with Lamb meet was delicious and tender, their special weekend biriyani oh my goodness must order can't forget the naan selection they have it was really good as well my favorite was the cheese naan and the onion naan. We ordered the Vijayawada Chicken Biryani and Apollo Fish. The biryani was flavorful with a nice kick of spice. The curry mixed into the rice was delicious, and the chicken pieces were tender and well cooked. If you're someone who enjoys spicy food, you'd probably love it! As for the Apollo Fish, I wasn't too impressed. The texture felt a bit off, kind of a mix between crispy and soft, but not quite hitting the mark. It wasn't terrible, just not something I'd go back for. The ABSOLUTE BEST Indian restaurant I've ever been to. How to describe the way even a humble fried rice dish is elevated to one of the best meals I've ever eaten. We were here on a Sunday and it was clear that there were a lot of take out orders so maybe a lot of pressure in the kitchen! Ambiance is okay. A regular simple dining area with booths. Food was okay. I'm not sure if this restaurant happens to be South Indian? Maybe we went wrong by ordering some North Indian dishes. The biryani spices and rice were not how we are used to having it. It was different, and they barely had any meat in the dish even though it was ordered with meat. The butter chicken was a bit too sweet. We grabbed take out from here this weekend and were super impressed with the excellent flavor and quality of ingredients. We ordered online and I called in to alert them to my gluten allergy. I was happy to discover their pakora and the curries were all gf as I'd hoped. The individual answering the phone was very helpful. Stopping in to pick up the food they were not quite done yet and apologized for my wait and were very nice. The restaurant isn't particularly decorated but they had ballywood videos playing and plenty of table space. Food was so delicious once we tore into it at home. The pakora batter was so well seasoned and crispy, curries perfectly spiced. We look forward to ordering from them again soon. read more

I have been craving a crispy dosa. Yelp brought us to Sitar. Their menu features Northern and Southern specialties. We were impressed with the warm welcome and attentive service from the get go. We ordered the masala dosa, mutton biryani, and rasmalai. The large foot long dosa was presented with coconut and tomato chutneys with a side of sambar. The dosa shell was crispy and stayed crispy overall. This is what I was looking for. The filling part wasn't soggy. The soft potato filling was well-spiced with real curry leaves, coriander, and you can taste the richness of ghee. It was terrific! You have to dine-in for dosa , otherwise the filling softens the crepe and it can get too soggy to enjoy. Their signature mutton biryani was aromatic with a good amount of meat, well portioned, and seasoned. It was not overly spiced. Really enjoyed this. The rasmalai, a soft cheese dumpling dessert with cardamom and rose water creme sauce, not sure if made in-house, made a decadent end to our meal. This is the second time I asked for Item X to be mild and Item Y to be super super super spicy... and I get an indelibly spicy Item X and a zero spice y (and I mean zero). Sitar has been our local go-to Indian place for a little while now. We enjoy other region-specific Indian restaurants, too. For the general fare and for distance, this is our chosen place. Its deco is basic suggesting an indifferent mom & pop type of place without the glitz that is sometimes found at other Kirkland (and Bellevue and Redmond) Indian restaurants. Three TVs on the wall play Indian music videos, kids' cartoons, or soothing travel imagery. It is a funny mix bag for your visual entertainment. The clientele is predominately Indian (always a good thing). We have been here enough times that we now order amongst several favorite dishes. Our food comes reasonably swift. They have robust take-out orders, so a bit of wait during prime dinner time is understandable. Our waitstaff is very courteous. Their prices are a bit better than some/most Eastside restaurants, but cheaper can be found in Seattle. When the temperature is 84F outside, it feels like high 70s inside. Their AC isn't very strong, if that matters to you. The Food/Drinks: Tandoori Chicken, $16 - 5 Stars Tandoori chicken (bone-in) is my calibration tool to determine if an Indian restaurant hits the basics correctly. Theirs is impeccably flavored, very well-seasoned, served sizzling on a hot plate. Even the chutney is delicious. Shahi Korma Goat, $19 - 5 Stars This sauce is amazing! So delicious. Goat is +$2 over the baseline of chicken. I think both proteins would be good with this sauce. They serve plenty of sauce for the rice and the naan. Mango Curry Chicken, $17 - 3 Stars The flavor was pretty good, but the sauce was oddly thick today, possibly too heavy handed with the cream. It didn't mix as well with the rice and oddly thick for the naan. Shrimp Masala Curry, $17 - 4 Stars Shrimp is my preferred protein, and this dish is the cheapest way to order shrimp. LOL. While I enjoy a masala curry, it tends to be oily. Garlic Naan, $4 - 4.5 Stars This is my other calibration tool of an Indian restaurant. Theirs is crispy on the bottom with a fluffy chew throughout. Thumbs up. Masala Dosa, $11 - 3.5 Stars I still miss Dakshin that was in downtown Kirkland. This one is good enough but need more potato filling. I want a bit more masala flavor. The crispiness and flavor of the crepe itself is good. Indian Masala Tea, $3 - 3 Stars The tea was pretty strong (not complaining). It was also oddly thick. A film forms easily on the surface. I ended up adding a bit of water to thin. Likely a personal preference thing, but I probably won't re-order. Mango Lassi, $5 - 4 Stars Fairly normal mango lassi. Would order again. read more

This is only of the Indian restaurants in the kirkland area with a decent number of vegetarian options. Methi malai mutter here is absolutely delicious. The cut Mirchi is decent but I have had better. The gobi manchurian was worth a try but not something I would go back again for The veg kothu paratha though was a disappointment. This place serves the best Indian food I have tasted in Washington, hands down! We ordered Manchow soup, Coconut curry chicken and paneer butter masala. Just loved how all the flavours came together! The ambiance is beautiful with soothing music and the prices are extremely reasonable. I am cutting one star because the service was incredibly slow and leaves a lot to be desired. There was just one wait staff member and he also combined his duties with seating. It took us 30 minutes to get our food. We were also served water in plastic bottles which seemed very inappropriate and is not environment friendly. Came here on a slow Wednesday night. Well, that's what I thought until I saw the barrage of orders coming through from takeout. It took almost 35 mins for the food to come. More on that soon. Ambiance is pretty ok. It's more catered towards family style/large gatherings. There's music and tv running YouTube songs. I ordered bullet naan, paneer Tikka masala and ulavacharu egg biryani. Also requested for it to be spicy. Bullet naan - 3 pieces. It was ok. It had lots of little chillies and some butter. Paneer Tikka masala - this was more like shahi paneer than Tikka masala. This was certainly cooked fresh and was really good. It wasn't spicy at all. I'd say it was mild, and I didn't mind it at all. I recommend getting this. Ulavacharu egg biryani - egg was nicely cooked and coated with the ulavacharu spices. There are 3 eggs in the biryani. It had a nice tangy taste from the tamarind paste. It was very different from the regular Biryanis I've had. Overall pretty decent. This place is a solid 3.5. I gave them an additional .5 star as they gave me complimentary spring rolls as my food took a long time to come. Do note that they're understaffed so be patient with them. read more

We decided to try this place for lunch and thought it was ok. We ordered through uber eats and got 2 order of butter chicken. The butter chicken was ok, the chicken was a little tough and dry and the curry was too liquidy. Also, the amount of curry to chicken to rice was way off. There was too little chicken so you end up eating mostly rice and curry, but the rice was also not enough to finish the curry, but the curry was not substantial on its own. The amount for 2 orders seem small, they combine the rice into 1 order and it's definitely not as much as other places and definitely higher in prices as well. Overall, I might try other things later on but probably not anytime soon read more

I have issues with cheap silverware I personally believe when the restaurant or café has nice silverware it brings the food to another level!! The food still was good!! We came around 2;00 so they were in the mind-set of closing before dinner at 5:00. We got a different servicer when we could not decide on what dishes we wanted. We ordered Pepper chicken, chili garlic naan and Pandu chili chicken biryani. The food was distastefully spicy. I love spicy food but this place just tested my patience and love for spicy food. I am really not sure how any human could possible digest such spicy food without any repercussions to their digestive system. The pepper chicken curry was also pretty OK. I told them to make it medium spicy but clearly they didn't understand what medium spicy means. I am not sure if there would be anything that kids can eat here. Also I was surprised to see no idli options available. Surprisingly, the chili garlic naan was on the mild level. Usually what we call the "bullet" naan meaning the chili naan here was pretty average. Also it took them 45 minutes to prepare food which in my opinion was a bit much.
