Great little spot for a neighborhood bar! The draft beer selection alone is a reason to come here, but the food will make you come back again. We started out sharing the beer tips and they were as tender as advertised! Not dried out at all. Next up was the pub chips and they were perfect to do with the drinking we were doing. I had the Black and Blue burger and it was cooked to perfection and the spices were great. It can get a little loud on weekends and busy nights at the bar but there are also plenty of tv's to keep you distracted. Parking is ok with a lot on the side and the side street itslef. read more

Surprisingly charming place, and good food too! Had special fish tacos and cider slaw--there was nothing generic about either one. The fish was crispy and sauce was lively but not too hot. One of my favorite places in Stratford to grab dinner and a drink with friends. Their menu is great with various meal and appetizer options and a full bar. I always order a different cocktail here and have never been disappointed. My favorite is the Bee's Knees. As Tom Wolfe said, you can't go home again. In the late 70's, this was my local watering hole, and few nights passed without me sitting at one of the stools at the bar. I had the opportunity to try to relive those days when I had a meeting scheduled for this venue. Having not been in this section of town in over twenty years, I was not expecting the changes. Formerly (when I was a regular), this was the Lion's Den, with its facade resembling a Swiss chalet. The dining room door was always locked, and everyone entered through the bar. Now, the facade had been updated, and there is no more bar entrance (nor, are any of the stores I remember still there: The pharmacy has become a doughnut shop; the deli is now a pizza shop, and the dry cleaners is now a Chinese takeout). Venturing inside, the dining room looked the same, with subdued lighting and dark wood. I peeking into the tap room, and didn't recognize it! The bar is now against the opposite wall, the dark wood accents, that matched the dining room's, is gone, and several televisions were high on the wall, tuned to sports. I went upstairs to "The Loft", as it used to be called, and found minor changes. Running the full width of the front of the venue It still affords a great view of the happenings below. Unfortunately, there was no air conditioning, and on a hot, humid evening, it wasn't the best seat in the house. Our group mostly ordered cocktails - they have a full menu which I glanced over for future reference, and it seems to be the standard modern tavern fare you'd find just about everywhere. It does seem that the kitchen is open later than some places; when I left at 10 pm, people were still ordering, so this may be of interest to people looking for a late bite. I will be back here, and I've already decided on several menu items to try. I just may wait until the weather gets a bit cooler, though. read more

I actually enjoyed this place. I ordered duck wings and calamari and it wasn't perfect but it was well worth the price and I definitely would come back if it wasn't for me living in Alaska. Let me begin by saying it's very difficult not to please us. We eat everything and enjoy everything. So for me to write this review is quite telling. First, the watermelon cocktail was supposed to have pureed watermelon. It did not. It barely tasted like watermelon, but honestly it was tasty and relatively strong and I enjoyed it! Between three of us we ordered bang bang shrimp (old oil deep fried taste zero shrimp), Pierogi (ok and we are all Slovak and polish so they were ok), Mac n cheese (greasy but ok), pretzel (huge hit!!!), fish tacos (absolutely ice cold, not cooked! Sent back and was comped). The piece de resistance was the duck wings. I looked forward to these since I saw them on the menu earlier in the day. I should have taken a photo. They were tiny, meatless legs. That's right. Legs. Not wings. Nearly no meat. How do you put wings on a menu and serve 5 scrawny legs and frankly I'm not sure they were even duck but I ate them because at that point I was starving. The meal was so wrong in so many ways. But our server was incredibly attentive and sweet. So we tipped her accordingly and she's the reason we gave it 2 stars. She was the star. But none of us will be back for food or drink. My wife has declared this her new favorite restaurant in the whole world. To be fair, that declaration happens fairly frequently. We needed some place to go for dinner that was not in our usual stomping grounds. Stratford Paradise green area is becoming - or more accurately probably already was quite a nice area - we just weren't aware of it. Sitting Duck physically is nothing spectacular, but it's nice. With an upstairs seating area that was not in use, outdoor seating, a separate bar and dining area. We sat in the dining room. We rach had a Sitting Duck Martini, which consisted of Grey Goose pear, St Germain and Prosecco. Audrey loved it. I liked it. She drank half of mine. It's all good. Audrey was starving so she ordered the brussel sprouts and maple - minus the bacon. It was sad to lose the bacon but the dish was still fantastic! That held us over until the meal was ready. My wife had the goat cheese salad which at a giant chunk of goat cheese encrusted with focaccia. Even though they only offered shrimp, meat or chicken as a protein to be added on top, she asked if it was possible to get salmon. And the answer was "of course." Salmon was grilled and delicious. Or so she said. I never got near it. I had the cobb salad which had bacon, grilled chicken, greens, gorgonzola, something they call the avocado mush - which is just strips of avocado that were soft - and tomatoes. Both had a vinaigrette dressing which we had on the side. My salad was supposed to come with egg but I asked for them not to include it. It was a great salad. There were a lot of other interesting things on the menu. I suspect we will come back and try them. The wait staff was superb. They were attentive and responsive but didn't hover. We loved our visit and we will return. read more

Had a great experience this afternoon! Dined around 3 pm and the restaurant was empty. Sat at the bar, and the bartender, Nick, was very attentive. Got sangria and put in a few appetizers which were out in minutes- we got bang bang shrimp and calamari, both great. Our food arrived very quickly and was delicious- I had the goat salad. Sitting Duck Tavern is a hidden gem! From the relaxed, but happy vibe, to the super-fresh food and the impeccable service...it was the best meal across-the-board, that we've had in a long time. Probably the best beer selection in the area (we did some investigating prior to making our decision to come here.) Though we can understand the loyalty most local establishments have toward Two Roads, it's just not our favorite brewery and a lot of places feature a large number of their brews on draft. Anyway, we were happy to see other CT brews on tap here. The beer prices are a bit high but for the selection, we were okay with paying them. This is not a "beer bar" by any means but the person in charge of selecting the craft beer options appears to know something about beer. We grabbed a few apps and were happy with the quality. I can't pass up "bang bang" anything and the shrimp didn't disappoint. On a past visit, we enjoyed the loaded pub chips. Anyway, the scene is casual yet nice enough for a night out or a "date" but definitely attracts a late night crowd as well. Parking was okay in a nearby lot. I have visited Sitting Duck on a few occasions and typically it's pretty good for a local Tavern. However, just recently I came back after one year and I have to say I was very disappointed with the food quality. My girlfriend and I ordered one different hamburger each and I felt like a hamburger from McDonald's was better tasting and we don't like McDonald's (point taken). Our burgers had no taste and barely and fries let alone they were both dry while served on department store cheap quality buns (8 for $1). Overall the atmosphere was ok. I just hope they aren't getting cheap on the quality of the food in order to sustain business expenses. Bar and service is good. Please pay attention to the quality and quantity of food served, it's no where near worth the money. read more

This is my favorite place to eat and or drink! The food is outstanding! I've enjoyed foods here that I usually don't even enjoy. They can make anything delicious. The selection is also unique. The chicken croque is my go to meal. The craft beer selection is always spot on. I've sat in several different areas and there is t a bad seat in the whole place. Outdoor seating is also available. The Makers Mark logo painted in the wall is also fun. The staff is open to appetizer suggestions too if you want to try a variation. A must visit! read more
