I really need to get here earlier in the day. The first time I visited, I unfortunately walked out empty handed because I came at night when there was a limited selection and also realized there was a $10 card minimum. This girl loves her carbs but I didn't think I would be able to eat that much bread by myself within the next few days. On my second visit, I made sure to have cash on hand and was so excited to get my hands on one of the hot dog and corn buns - sounds like a weird combo but it reminds me of the bakeries in Hong Kong. As a testament to how delicious these baked goods are, a guy right in front of me snagged the remaining 2 hot dog corn buns. He paused for a second and then proceeded to grab the 2 other hot dog type buns next to the first two and then literally scooped up 4 more similar ones a few trays over. I will yet again have to revisit this bakery, but I was very happy with my heart shaped coconut raisin bread and 1/4-sized lotus paste mooncake. I also picked up a turtle shaped red bean bun for my parents, which they were very impressed by. read more

I went to a friend's baby's birthday, and I was served a pretty delicious cake made by Six Ping bakery. So, I definitely had to check them out. We ordered several bakery items. Here's the rundown below: Mango Mousse - very fragrant, mango flavor throughout the mouse. The fresh mango on top was either not ripe enough or just right. European style coffee cake - wonderful aromatic coffee flavor in the cake. Definite punch of coffee in the topmost flavor. My favorite cake thus far. Tiramisu mousse - Bland. Just save yourself the trouble and get the coffee cake. Blueberry cake - Just ok. Not enough blueberry taste. The cake was kind of on the drier side without eating it together with the frosting. Overall, not a bad experience. Not all of the bakery goods are tasty. So, try items here and there to determine which one is your favorite. I will have to say, since this is an Asian bakery, that the bakery goods here are less sweet than their American counterparts. It's sometimes a hit or miss here. At times you can get the freshest pastry and it's amazing - soft & perfect! But at times it seems like it's been there for a day or two and tastes a bit staled. Possibly my favorite bakery in Chinatown, this place sells asian pastries/desserts amongst the best. I really really like their custard bread as its just sweet enough, fresh in a puffy bun. The coconut vanilla cake is also really good, with just enough cream and custard to give it that asian cake sweetness without being over the top. The hot dog buns here are fantastic too. I came in this past Sunday with my cousin to pick up some breads and desserts to bring to my Aunt's who just got out the hospital. It was late in the afternoon so it wasn't a full selection but still plenty to choose from sweet or savory. I only got to try the pandan chiffon cake as we gave all the other items to my aunt. This cake looks huge but is not overly sweet and the cream in the middle is very light and not decadent. I could eat the whole cake but I decided to save half. Only to have my heart broken because my cat knocked the half into the sink where it soaked up soapy water =[. I will be back soon for more pandan cake and to try some other goodies. read more

I came here again to get a cake for my mom. They had durian and pandan cakes so I had to come here. We came here on the Saturday night so I wasn't hopeful that there were any cakes left, but nope. They still had quite a few flavors. There was mango, green tea, coffee, hazelnut, tiramisu, pandan coconut, and pandan durian. I wanted to get them all, but unfortunately, life isn't fair, so I settled with the durian and pandan since my mom loves both. It was her birthday after all. The guy at the checkout counter was super nice. I told him which cake I wanted and asked if he could write, "Happy Birthday Mom," on it. He said he could do just that and brought the cake to the back. A few minutes later, he came out with the cake and asked me if it was okay. The message was written on a piece of white chocolate which was different. Usually bakeries write it on a ribbon or plastic, but the chocolate board was definitely better. The cake was only $33, which was not bad at all. He then packaged the cake up in a cute pink box with handles and taped a plastic cake knife and candles to the box. Definitely got brownie points for that. Yay for not having to buy candles! When we got home, we went through the usual birthday routine and lit up the candles. The candles were thin and super long which made me think that the was would melt onto the cake really quickly, but it did not. The cake had tons of fruit on the top including dragonfruit. There was also a macaron in the middle. The cake was moist and fluffy with a light pandan flavor. There was a layer of real durian and a layer of pudding. I thought the pudding would be like custard, but it was more like the egg pudding you get in boba shops. Overall, this place is great for all kinds of desserts. I love how they use real and fresh fruit. The prices are really nice which is definitely a plus. read more

I was searching for a place to buy my sister's birthday cake and my mom has suggested a cake with flan center, which is an unique Taiwanese take on western baking, so I knew that I had to just go to Houston's best Taiwanese-style western bakery, Six Ping. The lady was really nice and enthusiastic in assisting me in making the perfect birthday cake. Many beautiful and delicious-looking design choices are available, and even the cream and the cake can be changed to various flavors (Chocolate, vanilla, coffee, and Vietnamese cinnamon) for every design! Every default cake is topped with fruits and the center layer is filled with flan and more fruit. Surprisingly, a 10" birthday cake costs only $28 - much less than my budget! If you are having a hard time finding th is bakery then you are not alone. It is located waaaay in the back in the Dun Huang Plaza. Once you get here, be prepared for parking lot rage, it's tight, it's limited and there are Asian drivers here. O o The place is small but it is clean. It is brightly lit and the bakeries are very low priced. I can remember this bread custard that melted in my mouth as I snuck a bite getting into my car and automatically will remember this place for that when I'm around. I think it's cash only but I could be wrong. I'm sure the stoic faced cashier will tell you otherwise. I love this place and everything taste good and fresh. Why the 2 stars? We had a nightmare mixed up and I am still trumatized! For my daughter's birthday, she picked a coffee cake but were given a wrong one. Well, there were hungry girls at the party and the wrong cake looks good so we sang the birthday song and cut the cake open. Boy! Was that the biggest mistake in the century!! The smell ... I mean the tween girls had to jump away for safety! They accidentally gave us a durian flavored cake!! Of course I called and told them all about it. No offer to make things right. Another visit at a Six Ping location and another review for me. This Six Ping is located in the same shopping center where Gong Cha is. The two places are a stone-throw away from each other. This place is a bit more crowded than others as this shopping center has been pretty popular for a while. The good thing is that the bakery would keep churning out new items. The bad thing is that the register line might be a little longer than others. At my last visit, I convinced my wife to try a couple of new things. One was this square chocolate cake with chocolate frosting on top. It came in a plastic bag, and located on the right side where the bakery stored drinks. The other one was this bread that was sold at $2.75. It came with white cream and pork song filling. These two things were awesome! All and all, this Six Ping location got a 4-star rating for me. The baked goods were fresh. The place looked nice and clean. We'll come back here again. read more

I'm a fan, but it's because this is the only bakery I've been to that has plenty of variety. Sometimes everything does start tasting a little too similar that it's nothing special. So when I want a variety of fatness, I come to Six Ping. Milky custard here is my favorite thing to try. Anything with milky custard, I will get. The dry custard is not sweet enough and the texture is just, well....DRY! so I tend to stay away from those. I haven't tried anything with the meat inside so I won't comment on that. They should really consider marking the packages with check marks. After leaving the shop, I forget which pastry has what inside, so it's always a guessing game and it makes the package useless, since they're not using it to label it anyways. And not everything is labeled on the shelf or maybe things have been pushed around. But I guess the operations of this bakery is somewhat organized. They have walkie talkies to communicate which items needs to be restocked and it's cool to see that each staff knows what's inside each pastry. I'm always asking what's inside this one or that. With so many on the shelf, I would just start making stuff up. The sponge cakes are also good and soft. I think the price is pretty decent considering the portion size is generous. But there are more intricate desserts that are a little more pricey, that I don't think it's worth to try, so I just stick to the sweet pastries. My sister even ordered a pandan cake from here before and it's one of the best cakes I've ever had and sometimes crave for. I'll be back for more but after trying other bakeries to compare. read more

Six Ping has all sorts of baked goods. Every time I come to Bellaire, I come to this place. When you come in, you pick up a tray and you go around and pick whatever baked goods on the shelf. Once you're done, you just bring the stuff to the register. The place looks clean and the prices are cheap!!! I bought like around 8 items and the total was like $10-$12. They also make custom cakes so if you need a place to make birthday cakes, anniversary cakes, wedding cakes, or whatever, try out this place. First off, I love Six Ping and was so happy whenever I found out they had more than one location. This is the first time I've purchased anything from this location in the Dun Huang Plaza, and they are nothing short of consistent. Besides their delicious treats, I always order cakes from Six Ping for all my family member's birthdays. I love how fluffy and light the cake is and that they use whip cream so that the flavor is not overwhelmingly sweet. The cakes also have beautiful presentation. Their prices are all very reasonable as well compared to other bakeries I've been to in bellaire which do not have the same quality in taste nor presentation. There is so much to love about Six Ping and they have a wide variety of treats to suit anybody's taste preference. Now that I know of this location, I'll probably only come here since it's more convenient due to being surrounded by restaurants that I frequently dine at. read more

Now that 85°Celcius has opened up across the street, the biggest selling point for Six Ping is... that it's not 85° Celcius. The vast array of options may be missing but the quality is there and what they do have is just as yummy as anything from 85° Celcius. I usually get the pandan cupcake, as pandan bread was something I had when I lived in Singapore and it's fun to relive those times. It's more like a cross between cupcake and souffle, light and airy and pulls apart like cotton candy. Don't be turned off by the green coloring, pandan is delicious. They also have cute and yummy pastries shaped like cuttlefish and turtles too along with a few savory options like pork floss and hotdog. There's nowhere to sit down in this small store, so it's to-go only. But there's no crowds here to keep you waiting. If you just want a pastry or two, and don't want the hassle of 85°Celcius, Six Ping is your best bet. read more

Very delicious buns with all sorts of flavors! The establishment is located in a major shopping strip in the heart of Chinatown. It's great to visit this store while parents or other folks are showing in the Asian Mart. There are also plenty of tapioca and lunch places nearby, so very convenient location. When we went, there were a lot of people buying piles of buns so it clearly is a popular place. They also have great looking cakes (Asian cakes that aren't too sweet) and cold desserts. And if you like durian, they make a durian bun and pie. Super cheap, super good buns, great variety, and clean establishment. My only complaint is that a lot of the bun options were gone when we visited and customers had shifted some items around as well, making things hard to find/confusing. read more

We ordered a taro and durian birthday cake and while nothing was obviously wrong with it, service was great and cake didn't have any obvious flaws, there was some things they did not do well. For starters, they quoted us $58 for a 10-inch, but when we went to pick it up, they charged us $65. When we finally had the cake, the first bite was good, but then each bite got less and less appetizing. Whenever I have cake, I usually have seconds and thirds, but I have never had a cake where I was unable to finish the first slice. And mind you, it was a small slice. It wasn't just me that had this problem, it was my entire family. None of us could finish our first slices. Upon closer inspection, the cake is not super soft and it looks like they barely used any eggs. Maybe they used all-purpose flour instead of cake flour? They did use real durian, but it wasn't high quality durian. The taro was weird. I don't know what they mixed into it, but it did seem to be real taro. Not as good as the taro in the pastries at the 99 ranch bakery. We're sad that our first order at six ping did not impress us. $65 is a very expensive mistake. We're never coming back. I have no idea how we're even going to finish such a sickeningly sweet cake. Next time we get a cake, we're probably going to go with Egg Tart King or Tous Les Jour instead. read more

If you've never been to an Asian Bakery, especially Six Ping, you're definitely missing out. As soon you enter, you'll be greeted by the wonderful aromas of freshly baked bread and desserts that are hard to resist. The breads are freshly baked throughout the day, and the selection is always plentiful (from taro to the classic green onion pork sung, you'll most likely find what you like). For the most part, the flavors are spot-on, but there are a couple where they are lacking. But for an average price of $1.50, the breads here are well worth it. Also, if you're in need of a special occasion cake, this is the place to go. The cakes are always moist with plenty of flavor, and have very reasonable prices (a lot cheaper than many local bakeries in the area). Before you leave, be sure to grab a cake roll (which comes in mini and large) in their refrigerated section. Some of my favorite flavors are the Tiger (mocha) and chocolate with sprinkles. Yum!! There are several Six Ping locations throughout Houston, but the Bellaire location in Dun Huang Plaza is my personal favorite (they seem to have the most selection each time I go). So be sure to visit one of the bakeries the next time you're in the area, and you're guaranteed to come back for more! read more

One of my favorite place to get cheap and delicious asian pastries/desserts. I always get the bread with the taro or the egg custard. Always freshly made and not too sweet. Lately this place has been my go to for birthday cakes. They use whip cream so it is not overly sweet like american cakes and its always fluffy. The latest cake I ordered is the hello kitty cake w taro and pudding. The taro is the fresh taro not that fake purple stuff. So delicious! I have no idea what I ordered, but my customers complimented me on the excellent food. The counter person spoke some english, but I still have no idea what was in the kolaches I bought. The "hot dogs" were spicy and tasty, which is what was your standard kolache, but the pastry part was more bread like. I had my customer's receptionist tell me this was the best kolache she had every eaten. I put them up there, but my favorites are still filled/stuffed, not sausages. The second batch, filled/ non sausage were about the size of 1/3 a canteloupe. BIG. Like cut it in half and wear it as a hat big. The ingredients were described as "yellow filling" and "something viet-english sounding word don't ask me". I just did what they do to me when I am ordering food in a restaurant, nod and smile. Gimme 12. Excellent packaging! Each item was individually placed in a plastic sleeve that could be closed. Great touch! I will go back again. I tried this place because they were open, when Parisian Bakery across the street was closed until after 8am. read more
