Worst experience. I received an unwanted upgrade only to experience mechanical issues with the car rental. I kept getting two major alerts plus issues with connecting to CarPlay on the car, "Auto emergency break failure" and "Auto blind spot inactive". I called the next day to inform them of my issues. They did offer an exchange but I did not feel safe driving it and I had various things to attend to that day. I ended up borrowing a family member's car. I did drive it back to return and experienced the same errors. I'm very dissatisfied by the customer service. I paid almost $390 on this rental and because the car hasn't replicated issues for other drivers they offered a measly $50 voucher. I said no thanks and I would never drive them again. Their car broke on day 3 of a four day rental. I had to drive 60 miles through the desert at 50mph with no a/c. Their phone help failed, lied to me about getting me a replacement vehicle and threatened to charge me for two tows because I didn't sit out in the desert with my 11 year old daughter while they failed to organize any thing that would actually help. They did take 30% off the bill which is another insult because they did not even supply me a working car for 4 days as agreed in my rental agreement. So basically their saying I get an extra 5% discount for all the stress and inconvenience. This is not OK. Well, now Sixt will be getting a small claims court subpoena. I like Sixt. We had a good experience in La so I rented from them in Phoenix since I had to drive to Sedona 2 hours away. I got a BMW x3, which was nice since I drive a X5 and they will be similar. Service was beyond friendly and helpful, the parking garage was confusing to exit because it said do not enter but it was also the exit lane. Return was so easy. Car was great, service was great. I will definitely keep renting from them, I really like their vehicle selection and the easiness of getting and returning your rental. read more

I Rented a car from PHX, Arizona Sky Harbor Branch August 1st-4th. I lost the key made a claim and they told me they have no spare keys (what rental company doesn't have spare keys) and that they would need to order a spare. To amend the rest of my time in Arizona they rented out another vehicle to me (reason for 2 stars). The original vehicle I was locked out of had some of my valuable belongings inside and I discussed with management explicitly on the day I had to fly home that I needed them to call me when they accessed the vehicle. To no surprise they did not reach out to me at all and all of my belongings in the vehicle I was locked out of have not been accounted for and after immediately putting in a lost items claim they say that nothing was found to which I filed 2 more claims to which I got the same reward. This is very shady due to the fact the vehicle was locked and only accessed by SIXT so for them to tell me no items were recovered is a blatant lie ultimately leading me to the conclusion that my belongings were stolen by employees. This is a horrible look for a business that's all about professionalism and luxury. read more

I was directed to this car rental company through Priceline as a package deal with a motel room. I was surprised that I could get a mid size suv cheaper than a sedan. I should have known that this was too good to be true as they say. I walked around the vehicle like one does before leaving the lot and noticed some damage. I returned to the rental desk to report this to the clerk and he pretty much gave me the brush off saying it was already recorded but that I could use the QR reader to report damage myself. I did what was requested and took pictures with the reader and submitted the report. I clicked "done" and figured it was finished. I returned car three days later and went home. I get an email from them saying that I damaged the rental car. This is such BS. They are trying to shake me down for some stuff that I didn't do. I tried to reach out to their customer service and got a robot email for damage. I filed a complaint with the BBB and with the state attorney general. I learned my lesson to get everything in writing and document it. NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS CAR RENTAL PLACE! Very shady practices UPDATE!!! Horrible. Dude at the counter was trying to gaslight me and trying to upcharge me hundreds of dollars extra. Went downstairs to pick up my rental and the car didn't work. Waited 30 minutes in line AGAIN for a different car. The next day, that car had engine troubles and the tire leaked. Returned that car early to exchange for yet another car. When I returned that car at the end of my trip, I had to call for my receipt. The customer service couldn't find my reservation. Good experience - first time renter. I was nervous because of some bad reviews, but they seem to fit two categories. 1) damaged car and 2) scheduling. Sixt is trying to offer nicer cars at a reasonable price. I had a Volkswagen Jetta and it was a lot of fun! Perhaps they are trying to maintain their higher-end car status by having a lower tolerance for damage. Overall my experience was great, but only 4* because they would not work with me when I wanted a schedule change. I was going to visit my sister in the hospital. If Sixt had a more understanding policy that acknowledges family issues, like mine, they would have gotten 5*. read more

I have been renting monthly with Sixt for over a year. The experience is typically good. However, on my last rental they gave me a car that had been utterly trashed and had damage all over it. This concerned me, and I checked to make sure all the damage was documented in their app, which it was. Furthermore, I added my own images to validate that the damage was pre-existing. Unfortunately, they are trying to charge me for this pre-existing damage. Their claims department does not answer the phone, will not respond to emails, and their customer service team refuses to help with anything related to claims. So essentially, they are backing me into a corner where I have to pay over $1000 for damage that was on the vehicle before I ever drove it. They are ignoring my requests to provide the images of the damage from the app. This is fraud and theft. I will be pursuing legal action against Sixt for this overt fraud. read more

What a terrible experience at PHX. I am a long time Sixt Platinum member. I reserved a car to pickup my rental car at PHX December for a long roadtrip to San Francisco. Upon arrival, I was met with Walter at the PHX counter. Walter had noticed I was making the long road trip to California and asked me if I would like an upgrade. I said yes please, I would like the upgrade. The upgrade is a benefit Sixt Platinum members receive free of charge. After completing the necessary steps on Walter's monitor, I was met with the final page before I swipe my credit card. The new total amount was more than double the amount I originally reserved the car for! During the entire process I thought Walter knew that I am a Platinum member and that the upgrade would be complimentary. However, this was not the case. So I tried to explain to Walter that I am supposed to receive the car as a complimentary upgrade due to my status with Sixt. He claimed that I would not receive it for free because "it is the Holidays." Nowhere in the terms and conditions do I see that a free upgrade would not be allowed due to the Holiday season. The new car he quoted me for was an upgraded size, which I needed, and it was available. Therefore, it should be provided to me complimentary. I was very upset by the misrepresentation from Walter as I could tell he was trying to collect his commission on the upgrade charge to me. I then stepped out of the line to get on the phone with Sixt. This is where things get more interesting. During my conversation with the Sixt Customer Service supervisor, I was told that Walter is supposed to offer me the upgrade for free and that I should not be charged for the upgrade. I said okay, but how can we make that clear to Walter who was renting me the car at PHX? The supervisor on the phone told me not to worry, "we have your back." "You can proceed to pay the quoted amount that Walter is showing you, and upon return in California, we will refund you the amount your were additionally charged for." I said okay, but how can I ensure that I will be refunded? The supervisor ensured me that she had typed out notes within the reservation that I would be refunded the additional amount that Walter was charging me for upon return. I said okay and proceeded to pay the new "double cost" at PHX. Upon arriving in the garage to pickup my Toyota 4 Runner, I met with the gentleman at that booth. Funny thing was that there was another car available that was slightly smaller than my new upgrade, as explained by the man at the garage booth. Meaning Walter forced me to pay for the new upgrade, even though he knew there was a slightly smaller car available which would've also counted as a one-car upgrade. Strange that he only gave me 1 option to choose from. Upon return in SFO, I received my invoice for the amount I paid Walter at in PHX. I proceeded to the booth at the SFO garage and met the representative to explain to him my situation and that I was owed a refund. He (and I!) then saw the notes on the reservation by the customer service representative, but told me that he could not process the refund and that it would process by customer service in 2-3 days. I said okay fine I'll wait 2-3 days for my refund ~$500 refund. 1 week goes by and I do not see a refund. Instead, I see the full amount charged to my credit card. I call Sixt to ask where my refund is and if they see the notes provided by customer service on my pickup date. They said "sorry we do not see any notes by customer service regarding a refund and you will not receive any refund for your car upgrade." At this point, I felt cheated, lied to, and scammed. As a long time Platinum member, I have never dealt with such incompetence by a company who is supposed to be tailoring to their loyal customers. I further escalated my complaint the supervisor, who then told me, "okay, since you insist, we will provide you with the refund." Not once was it their fault. Also, I was not refunded the entire amount I am owed. They are about $63 short. So I still expect to receive an additional $63 back. Very disappointing service all around. The best they can do is a mini van. Now I understand things can happen, but why not let the customer know ahead of time? After all the back and forth, we get the mini van. We walk out to the van and it is filthy. Look at pictures. We go get an employee and they apologize and offer the only other thing they have. Another mini van. We start unloading the dirty van (it is 113 degrees). We get to the new van and it is equally as dirty. So now they want us to wait 45 minutes while they clean it. We can't wait and the employee tells us there will be a discount on our charges when we pick up. Guess what? There wasn't. They wanted to charge us $100 to make the move even though the rental was a month away and we were going to stay with them. We couldn't even talk to them. RUN DON'T WALK AWAY FROM THIS CRAP COMPANY!!! Normally, I rent cars through Hertz. Since they didn't have any since it was last minute, I had to find an alternative. Choose SIXT since it was comparable in price to what I normally pay and had decent reviews on the booking agency website I went through. That's as far as the positive side of things. Got to the rental car center in Phoenix. Was told that the RAV4 I had reserved wasn't available. Was offered a BMW X1. Asked if it was the same size as the RAV4. Was told yes but "you would be more comfortable in a Toyota Highlander". If it was the same size as a RAV4, why would they try to upsell to a Highlander so bad. IT'S NOT THE SAME SIZE!!! The fact SIXT claims an X1 and RAV4 are the same size is annoying!!! X1 - two carry-ons, one backpacks. RAV4 - two carry-ons, two suitcases, two backpacks. Anyways, got to car (X1). SUV was backed up to a concrete barrier. What f'ing company does that? Had to pull the X1 out into the aisle to put luggage in the vehicle only to realize that it couldn't carry what they said. Got more frustrated with the fact that the BMW didn't have CarPlay which is pretty standard now for car rentals and had f'ed controls which says to me I will never consider renting or buying a BMW. Luckily an employee brought back a RAV4 while I had the X1 parked in the middle of the lane and asked if I needed help. YES! Get me a real SUV, please! Was able to swap out the X1 for the RAV4. Then the inevitable happened. What is that smell? On the freeway heading to my family's place, I started gagging cause I couldn't figure it out why the SUV smelled like BO - I'm talking rancid BO. Turned on the AC and it subsided. Mom couldn't smell a thing. It continued the next few days. Mom couldn't smell a thing while I gagged. Then I realized it was the seatbelt. Talk about rancid. Someone who rented the RAV4 before me must have driven the thing with the belt under his arm and the AC off. Talk about f'ing disgusting. Upon returning the vehicle to Sky Harbor, there wasn't enough employees to handle the incoming vehicles and the employees were directing the customers to park the vehicles in the pickup parking area. Seriously?!?! This is a ridiculous company that reserves vehicles they don't have enough of, tries to upsell to larger vehicles in order to make money, rents dirty, disgusting vehicles and then has ZERO - I LITERALLY MEAN ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! My mom thought she had left something in the X1 when we switched vehicles. Couldn't figure out how to contact company. Filled out lost and found web form. Zero response to that. This was my first time renting a vehicle from this company, and it will be my last. I feel I was scammed by this company. Please make sure you take video or pictures of the vehicle before you drive off the lot or you will regret it. I had a very late flight and got to the rental around midnight. As I get to the checkout desk, the guy at the desk asked me if I wanted to upgrade to a Camero for $80 more as I had rented the cheapest cast. I told him no thank you as I was only planning on going to my house and was not planning on moving the vehicle. He gave me the keys and I realized it was for a Chevy and when I asked him which car I was getting, he told me he upgraded me as a courtesy for being a first time customer, even though I had declined. Since it was so late, I took the keys and proceeded to the exit and not taking pictures or video of the vehicle. The rental agreement showed damages on the rear bumper, passenger door and driver door. The car was literally driven from the Phoenix airport to my house and not moved until it was time to return the vehicle and was parked in a driveway with no other cars. When I returned the vehicle, there was only one guy receiving vehicles and he asked me to leave the keys on the dashboard and that I could leave, so I did just that. By the time I got to the airport, I received a damage email that noted the damages described on the rental agreement with the exception of the rear damage. I responded by sending them the form and my side of the story to let them know the damage get were accusing me off was reported at time of rental and sent them a copy of my rental agreement. Two weeks later, I get an email letting me know they have decided to move forward with the claim and sent me an invoice for $1,300 for damages that were already there and listed on my agreement. I am very disappointed. I am 100% sure I did not cause the damage they are claiming and feel like they are taking advantage of me and making me pay for damage that I'm sure someone else already paid for. What they are billing me for and the damage they are accusing me off does not match the charges they billing me for. I plan on fighting this! read more

Not my first time renting through Sixt and had a great experience at other locations. However, this location is trying to ding me for a crack that is arbitrarily in between the "Middle" and "driver side". When I asked about the damage, the return agent just said "don't worry, we'll still give it to the next person" and I got the email stating new damages were found. You can't contact anyone after the fact because they use a toll-free number and this feels massively scammy. I'd be careful with booking here or make sure you really got your ducks in a row. read more

As many other customers have said, Sixt or at least the Sixt Sky Harbor Phoenix location attempts to fling fraudulent, predatory damage charges at you for incidents you're not responsible for and they have very inconsistent business practices, plus communicate inconsistent guidelines to customers regarding pick-up procedures. I have submitted a Better Business Bureau complaint in hopes of resolution/charge dismissal regarding this location and will involve the Arizona Attorney General's office if it comes to it (hopefully it doesn't). I was wrongly accused of damage leading to a $700+ windshield repair bill for a hairline crack that I did not in any way cause, and the dispute would have been avoided if their associates communicated protocol appropriately and consistently. I have rented with several agencies and I would recommend avoiding Sixt unless absolutely necessary. The associates are not rude and are "reassuring" that communicated issues are documented, added to their records and that you will NOT be penalized, then send you a damage bill for the issue they reassured you over. Sixt is also generically responsive in their redundant "final demand" emails after which they don't even consider your response and your side of the situation, then threaten to send the bill to collections if you don't pay their alleged damage repairs by X date. I believe their center associates are kind, but I don't believe they are provided adequate and consistent training, and from my experience, it seems management and the claims department are very shady as a business. Do not dismiss the other poor reviews you see and steer clear of this shady, *predatory*, and non-transparent company unless you enjoy headaches and being given the run around for weeks on end. Lastly, I've also seen Sixt reply to many, many reviews saying how they're sorry for the customer's difficulty with their damage claim and to message their department to further investigate, but then the communication run-around cycle continues and Sixt makes no effort to directly communicate/resolve while continuing to fraudulently demand repair compensation. Never again! I should have canceled when I saw our car. A white Toyota Camry with several scrapes, scratches, gouges, chips, smudges, and so on, and over 55,000 miles. They gave a QR code top do my own check in and note any damage not already documented but trying to check in a car in covered parking, poorly lit, in near 100 degree temperatures (Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport) was not conducive to a thorough inspection. They sent an email asking how my check in was and I mentioned then that checking in the car in those conditions was not good and I was already worried they were going to stick me for repair bills for damage already on the car which is exactly what they are doing! I emailed Customer Service and all I got was automatic replies, "Thank you for your email...". No other response when I asked for my check in report or my comments on their check in email. Now I am stuck with a bill and no recourse. No wonder the guy at the counter pushed so hard for the additional insurance at $34.99/day. I wish I had seen all the previous reviews that talked about this very thing being a common occurrence. We rented a vehicle using Expedia selecting the "standard elite" option. This was supposed to provide us with a SUV that sat 7 people. Our total cost quoted for the rental from Aug 3-9 was about $890. First - we got to the airport, the Sixt location at the terminal we arrived in was closed (at 8 pm) so we had to shuttle to another terminal to pick up as car. Second - I was told the only car available for the "standard elite" would not hold 5 passengers AND our luggage so we would have to bump up to the next level which was going to cost an additional $200+ and that was our only option available to accommodate us and our luggage. So, we had no choice but to agree to the up-sell. Amazingly, the vehicle we got was a 7 passenger SUV. Third - we arrived at the terminal to return the car and there was no attendant. My husband called using the phone near the return location and we were told to "park it anywhere" and just drop off the keys. Forth - I received my invoice and my total cost was $1535.07 - over $600 more than I was originally quoted thru Expedia. I prepaid for gas to fill and returned it half full and charged $135 for gas. And, they threw in a $10 late return fee when it was returned exactly when we said it would be on 8/9 but they must not have processed the return until the 10th. I received my final invoice 8/14. And finally, when I tried to submit a review using the link sent to me by Sixt, with the same rating in this review, I was directed to a page that said the review link expired Aug 2nd - the day before I even rented the car. read more

airline changed my time of landing,i assumed because i bought a package including hotel and rent a car they would notify sixt,apparently not.i got to sixt at airport,they said i was later than i was supposed to be so they pulled the usual rent a car scam,sorry no cars left that you wanted so for 21.00 extra per day we upgraded you,when i said something they said okay we can do 15.00 extra per day.what can you do,you've already paid for most of it.i went to get my upgraded?toyota camry hybrid and noticed lots of dings and dents,they were noted but take pictures of any damage before you leave.i went to drive off and light on dash said out of washer fluid.i guess they don't maintain them between rentals.drove up to office,they took car upstairs and got it filled but it should have been filled before customer picked it up. read more

Be aware!!!! Bait and switch! I booked last minute while flying in to Phoenix. It was a basic Toyota Camry. Upon my arrival they asked if I'd like to upgrade. I said if it's the same price then yes, if not I am okay with what I have. The rep said we saw you rented from here before, we like to take care of our customers and gave me a bmw 840i. Brilliant. Same price, better car. The rep gave me instructions where to go so I did. (I think they gave an upgrade because my actual car wasn't ready) Upon pick up. I noticed there are a few scratches here and there that are not recorded. I went back to the rep in the lower level that handed me the keys, told her I need help, she said scan this qr code add your email, follow the instructions and voila. I submitted all damages. I went back to the desk she said hit submit. Bam. You're all set. Felt like a fast and great experience at first. Upon drop off the lady told me that she sees a few scratches on the car and will notate it. I told her I did all of this upon pick up and took videos of the damages. She said great. Took down the damages to "confirm it matches" told me to sign off and off I went. A few days later sixt sent me a form to fill out which I did and explained everything with details including pictures. A week later I received a bill for $1,300 in damages. I reached out to sixt directly, they told me to email all the info including picture and videos I took prior to pic up. No response. Two weeks later I get an email that they are no longer pursuing me financially and ignore previous claims. A freaking headache and a half. Make sure to record the entire car a to z upon pick up. If there are any damages have A rep come out and have them take pics. Make sure you take pictures of them taking pics of your car. Make sure you have a copy of updated damages before you leave. They charged me $680 for a car from Phoenix to Orlando for 2 days, then canceled my rental saying the drop off in another state would need to be authorized. We had to call for approval to "release" the car to be dropped off in Florida. I had to pay additional for that which was fine, but when they swiped my card for an ADDITIONAL $3,300 I told them I need to cancel. There's no way I can drive 30 HOURS to Florida for $4,000!!!! In the past 4.5 months I have been contacted by three different people who have experienced the same kind of fraud from Sixt. It sounds like this is common practice from this company. My advice to all others in the same situation is the same. If you know you are in the right, take them to court over it. When you speak to their claims department, escalate the issue to a manager ASAP and let them know you will fight them in court. This will cost Sixt more than writing the minor cosmetic damage off and they will drop the claim. More importantly, my advice to everyone is NEVER RENT FROM SIXT. read more

This is my second one star rating for Sixt. As many others have stated, they tried to charge me for "damage" to the car after the fact. Luckily, in that instance, I was able to have the charges successfully disputed after much back and forth. Most recently, I was charged for an additional day on my rental from Phoenix Skyharbor when my return was not checked in until the following day. The attendant was too lazy to get his nose out of the book he was reading to get up and check the car in. He told me I was "good to go" and I was all checked in. Not so much. The time stamp on my invoice was for the next day, when I had already flown across country and was home, asleep in my own bed. I contacted customer service, received a file number and was told that they'd get back to me. Two weeks later, still no further contact from Sixt after multiple attempts on my part to reach them. I would like to start with saying that I was very concerned about the reviews I read online about this place...I almost didn't go with them for a rental. I like many other conscientious consumers visited the location at the Sky Harbor car rental center a few nights prior and asked lots of questions. I didn't feel much better when the attendant said "only angry people post reviews"...I thought to myself dang, if he only knew that I Yelp! Anyway, I got my questions answered, most of my concerns addressed and booked my rental. Here is were the rubber hit the pavement... Sunday morning at 5am...it was dark, poor lighting and only on attendant available for pick up or drop off's. As I waited to be helped and seen others returning rentals, I kept thinking about the reviews. Almost immediately, I observed part of the problem...the attendant would just keep telling the people to leave the keys in the car. At no time did anyone ask for a receipt or for a vehicle inspection at return. No wonder they get surprise bills later for damage to the vehicle. So, finally (40+ minutes later) it was my turn and the attendant located my reservation and explained how I almost didn't get a van because of some issues with the one reserved. He processed all the paperwork and walked me through the details of the rental. He insisted on all of what I insurance wouldn't cover and insisted on adding their insurance. Fast forward...I was handed the key but had to insist on having him go out and do a walk through prior to me driving off. He seemed bothered at my insistence but eventually agreed to walk out with me. I inspected the heck out of the vehicle (too much to be honest) found lots of scratches, stains, smears, and lose covers. All this work and the attendant only circled one scratch on the door. I recorded the entire walk through and even his (why are you trippin tone) when he asked anything else sir? All through the next 4 days, I drove the van with extreme alertness, parked away from anyone that could potentially cause damage to the van, kept extra vigilant for road hazards and didn't sleep well worried over any damage to the van. On my return, I cleaned the van and gave it several walk arounds before driving it over to the car rental return center. I even asked family members to check for any damages that I could of missed. I arrived early to the rental return area and the person receiving the vehicles didn't ask much and said...leave they key inside please. I immediately requested a return inspection to which he simply wrote down the mileage, fuel and anything I pointed out...thats it! I walked up to the counter upstairs and asked for a receipt. The guy at the counter was very nice, called and had them confirm drop off and then I heard him ask..."I need the ticket terminated in order to print out a receipt" that was the key word "terminated" once the vehicle was terminate so is the ticket on my rental account. It's been a couple of days and no surprise bills or problems from my rental. It was intense with me having to worry so much about the rental, I just don't know if in the end it was worth the $50+/- savings over other places I've rented before, but it all went well. I would strongly recommend you inspect your vehicle before renting, NEVER just leave the key at return, and always arrive early enough to inspect the rental before and after. One last thing...go n get the receipt at the counter and secure that the rental ticket is terminated! read more

Good service at checkout, nice BMW, and good service on return, but they sent me an invoice with $800 of added bogus cleaning/smoking fees and charged it to my credit card. I called and got charges reversed, but this is a hassle and seems from other reviews this has happened to others. I made sure to stay for walk around of car and signed off that car was returned damage free. I won't rent from them again. Back to Avis loyalty for me. read more

MAKE SURE to take pictures before you leave the Sixt parking lot. Luckily, I found some damage on the car and took pictures just in case. About a week after I returned the car, Sixt emailed me, claiming that I had damaged it and that I needed to pay over $1,000. I sent them the pictures, and they eventually dismissed my case. However, if I hadn't taken those pictures, I would have had to pay for the damage. Also, the dismissal process took more than two months! During that time, I was so stressed. Scammy company. Be aware that each rental requires you visit an agent before getting the car. That allows the agents to add additional fees (LDW, etc.) before you sign the agreement. In spite of declining all of the additional fees, the agent snuck in a charge which post-rental customer service will not overturn. This charge was not a part of my reservation and was declined at the point of pick up. UPDATE - My review will be changed from 1 star to 3. I was able to escalate high enough to have the charge overturned. However, the initial scam did occur. I offer this review as a warning to others...Great cars at Sixt (usually). Just put on your "traveler scam high alert system" when you are reviewing the agreement read more
