I decided to try Sixt Rent a Car for the first time on an upcoming business trip 8 DAYS FROM NOW. My 24 hr. rental was prepaid for $292.93. Due to an emergency trip and day in the ER with inner ear/vertigo issue yesterday, no flying is possible this month until it resolves. I went online to cancel today 8 DAYS IN ADVANCE OF RENTAL and was charged a $115.60 cancellation fee!!!!!!!!! This is outrageous and unethical to say the least!! What in God's name am I being charged for???? How are they out any money WITH 8 DAYS NOTICE??? Emergencies happen and I would understand a small fee if it were within 48 hours of pickup but 8 days?? This has cost them a valuable potential repeat customer and I will be sure to notify all of my colleagues of this practice of Sixt's. I will also be making a complaint to the Phoenix airport and BBB. Shameful business practices. I recommend you use any other rental company. read more

After reading the Yelp reviews, I was hesistant to rent from Sixt. But the price was pretty good and we thought BMW X3 would be a good ride to Sedona. Checkin was smooth and was greeted smiling staff. There was no line and no push to buy anything additional. Car was awesome. No issues in return either. They don't give you a receipt at return. You should leave the car there and an invoice shows up in your inbox in 24hrs. I wish they gave some kind of acknowledgment that car was received at a certain time. I know Alamo gives the receipt instantly. Overall, we enjoyed the car and it was a perfect experience. Thought I'll share so more yelpers can take advantage. read more

Sixt is the worst of the worst of the worst in car rentals. I made a reservation for a SUV weeks before my trip. Got confirmation in email and everything. The day of my trip, my flight was delayed. I contacted Sixt to tell them I would be late picking up the car. My reservation was modified to be 1) triple the price of the SUV I reserved and 2) for a tiny little car. I was standing at the counter with a confirmation in my hand that they refused to honor. Multiple calls to their "disservice" center were pointless. The agents blamed me for changing the time and that erased my rate and reservation. They actually said that this was all my fault and I was being unreasonable. I spent four hours at the airport trying I travel a lot and sixt always disappoints. read more

Last minute rental during peak season! Yes it was expensive, but not outrageous. The customer service was 5 star and the car was clean and in perfect condition. The return was seamless. The deposit was back on our credit card within a day or two. I'll definitely consider them for my future rental needs. read more

Every thing was great at pick up. Fast service, minimal waiting. However,the vehicle had extensive damage front passenger side. Our rental agreement had all damage noted in the paperwork. In fact, I took a picture of the damage and went back to the employee who stated "oh yes, that damage is already noted here", while pointing to my rental agreement. Then why did I receive an email afterwards with a damage report where I had to PROVE I didn't cause the damage? This required me to submit my copy of agreement where damage was noted as well as my photo of damage at pick up. Good thing I had the proof, but an unnecessary headache for me. read more

I agreed at pickup of vehicle to be charged at drop off by the Sixt rental car people for whatever gas needed to be topped off. However, when I returned the vehicle, the tank was 7/8 full it is even stated as such on the return receipt and yet I got charged for what I have to assume is a full tank of gas considering i was told i was locking a rate of $4.70 a gallon and if the car was returned empty the charge would be about $70 according to their calculations I guess. At other rental places i have done this exact thing, where i used the vehicle, locked in a pre-rental rate and only got charged for the amount of gas that was actually pumped into the vehicle after i dropped off the car. I guess that is not the policy at Sixt as they charged me $65.04 in gas and then another $10.15 in surcharge fees. I looked it up even if the car were bone dry when i took it back, the Nissan Sentra I was rented has a 12.4 gallon tank, if you times the stated $4.70 a gallon to the 12.4 gallons the total is still only $58.28, so where did the cost of 65.04 come from? I feel as if I was over charged not just once but twice. If the rental agent had made it clear I would pay that charge no matter how much gas was in the vehicle at return I would have declined the gas service and made sure the car was completely full. This charge and lack of explanation of how their system worked is the only reason i did not give 5 star rating as EVERYTHING else about this rental was fantastic! In fact it is because everything else was great that i didn't give a 1 star rating. IF I ever use SIXT again, which I doubt, I will not agree to any additional charges beyond the deposit and local taxes if any as it defeats the point of shopping around prior to the rental. read more

Had to collect the vehicle the next day because my flight came late. Vehicle had normal wear and tear on the interior, and no exterior damage was present, or I would have documented it. Vehicle was returned in the exact same condition. Received an email with a photograph of a rather large scratch on the vehicle TWO WEEKS after returning it claiming it occurred during my rental. Today I received another email telling me I have to pay almost $800 for the scratch. My credit card has been locked, and good luck to them getting a dime from me for damage that happened after I returned it. DO NOT RENT FROM THEM! read more

It took me getting the attorney general involved over your fraudulent damage charges that I did not cause. Customer service is nonexistent and you will never get a hold of anybody on the phone to discuss an issue. Buyer beware of these scammers. I would not recommend this company to my enemies. Note also that they respond to reviews here on yelp and saying they will look into it but the reality is you can never reach anybody to talk to ever. I rented a car from the Phoenix airport for one day on March 16, 2025. Upon returning of the car on March 17, 2025, the person receiving it said everything was good. I turned the car in approxiamately 6:00 am. I received my return receipt at 8:57 am stating that my deposit refund witll be release within the next 24 buisness hours. Two days later I get a invoice stating that their was a bumper loading strip: scrtch Drivers side less than 5cm down to primer and bil for $670.00 (appraisal invoise cost $25.00, diminution of value 129.00, incident value-bumper loading strip $517.00). When I tried calling the company today after i received the bill at 3:03 pm, and recording said that I reach the company after buisness hours which are after 8:00 pm. I am seeking counsel because there was nothing wrong with the vehicle when I turned it in and I also received my retirned receipt approximately 3 hours after I turned in the vehicle. So what happened to the vehicle between 6:00am and 8:57 am is something they (SIXT) need to inquire with the gentleman the cleared the vehicle when I turned it in. When I flew in from another state, they told me I could not rent a car because I needed to rent a car for the days I was in Arizona. I could not rent a car for only 4 days. They also charged me for the daily coverage even though I said I did not want it. The extra charges included 1) Loss Damage Waiver which I explicitly declined when renting the car and 2) various rental fees (which were advertised as being included when I made the reservation). The total amount charged was unclear because the total shown at time of rental included a car deposit fee and the breakdown in fees was not explained to me. At a minimum I would like the Loss Damage Waiver fee of $30.99 + fees/taxes returned. My first time using this rental service, I booked a car for a 4 day trip to EDC Vagas and let's just say one of the easiest and hassle free ways to book especially when you're able to use a QR code for check in. I know a lot of people we're complaining about not having there deposit returned but I had no issues on my end it was returned within 10 business days as explained by the rep. And in terms of people say they got charged for damages to the car, my role of thumb is if you know your taking a road trip always just opt in for the coverage just to be safe. I rented a vehicle from.the SIXT car rental company in PHX Airport Phoenix AZ. I rented the vehicle online for a period of 6 days. I had a family emergency and want to return the vehicle 2 days early, turns out you will not get a refund for the time you return the car early. However had I not done a prepaid rental I would have gotten a refund. How stupid is that. Anyway never rent prepaid and expect a refund. ALSO. the last time I rented a car with SIXT again at PHX Airport they tries to rip me off by saying that I caused damage to the vehicle which was already there. Luckily I took pictures and filed a report. DON'T rent from this company they are somewhat corrupt. It also happened to a friend of mine. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS BEFORE YOU RENT A CAR ESPECIALLY SIXT. We rented the "Mustang Convertible or Similar" option. The vehicle performed great, as it only had around 2700 miles on it. The staff from picking up the vehicle to dropping it off were very professional and friendly. The vehicles condition is where we were not impressed. The dash was very dusty, the steering wheel had food or something similar smeared on it, and the shift knob boot had what looked like coffee or soda spilled on it. The front windshield also had a hazy smear to it so when the sun was on it it was incredibly difficult to see out of causing a safety hazard. It was as if it had tried to be cleaned with something not meant to clean windows. There was also a Starbucks lemon pastry in the middle console that was hardened like it had been there awhile. read more

I would give zero stars if the option was there. These guys are into scamming people with all kinds of additional post rental fees. They tried to charge me for some pre-existing scratches on the rear tail gate which took a lot of my time and numerous emails to straighten out. Now they're trying to charge $25 to my credit card for "road tolls" - I never drove through any tolls! This company consists of total bottom feeders who try to screw people on the back end once the cars are returned. NEVER again would I ever use them! read more

Even though this is a new company to the united states, it's apparently been around in Germany for almost 100 years. They are the "Enterprise of Europe," as the customer service counter rep likes to point out. They ran out of compacts, so I got a free upgrade to a brand new 2013 Hyundai Sonata with only 1100 miles on it (that car itself is worth a five star rating). The price for a two day rental was HALF the price of Enterprise / Hertz, and was even cheaper than Fox car rental! One minor tip - please consider changing that crazy name. They took the standard security deposit at time of pickup and over a week later I was charged an additional 179.00 for an airport fee and a insurance waiver. 35.00 a day to waive taking their insurance. Expedia receipt states all taxes and fees were included in my payment at time of booking but that obviously was incorrect. SCAM!! Do not rent here!! It was a great car, got what I wanted. At first service was excellent. Made my reservation using Expedia for a 5 day rental. I later needed to change the from 5 to 4 days, no problem. Since I was using Expedia I was unable to use the sixt website to make the modification, they said to cancel and rebook. Done. And to my surprise when rebooking I actually got a better deal, 229 for a 4 day luxury rental instead of the 466 for a 5 day. Awesome. Picked up car, showed clerk the two reservations to ensure he saw the cancelled one, no problem. Yea right. He charged me for the $466 rental and said it couldn't be reversed until a manager was in. It was 4:03 in the am I had to get where I was going. He typed all the notes real quick, showed me the screen, gave me the managers name (Cara Anderson) and this teacher's heart trusted the error would be fixed! I didn't have time to sit there for it to be fixed, I had reservations elsewhere that needed to be kept. What was supposed to a 4 day $229 rental, plus $200 deposit to be reversed upon drop off in fact became one charge of 666.29 a few hours after I took car, and another charge of $466.30 a few hours after I dropped car off as I was told I had to wait 48hrs for any charges/corrections could be made. They refused to fix it while I was traveling, fine I'll let it go until I return the vehicle. Don't understand but I'm not spending a 4 day vacation fighting with a rental car company. Put it aside to enjoy the time I had on vacation. What a load of ....! Car was dropped off Saturday at 430pm it's now Monday at almost noon, no phone calls retuned, transferred to this person to that all ending in hang ups and now waiting on an email to be responded to as I am out of options. All I want is the $900+ I was charged in clear error to be returned to me. I have three kids to feed on a teachers summer budget, $900 might not be much to some but for me it means quite a bit!! So long as these errors don't occur to you, the car was in great shape and we thoroughly enjoyed it, and aside from not getting my refund all customers service clerks I did speak to were polite and seemed to want to help even when my temper got the better of me and I sounded more like a sailor than a kindergarten teacher, but problem is still unresolved and SiXt owes me over $900 in overcharges. Furious... Edit...no response to email, phone calls but yelp reviews get attention. Priorities are in check! :/ Resent with suggested memo info added, fingers crossed when a yelp review sucks they actually consider reversing their errors. How about making it simple to talk to actual living human beings willing to help and follow through until corrected??? My brother and I rented a car there, and of course we had gotten a quote for 4 days that it was going to be about $395 for a Toyota Corolla. I thought that was very reasonable. My cousin helped me book it and there was an extra online charge of $586. We were told that that would be put back on my card as some sort of deposit. I trusted them when they said that. The man who helped seemed very nice but deceived us into up charging our vehicle over $800. Towards the end of the trip we got it down to $566 which was reasonable, but we were still very upset and frustrated. I've been home for about a week and the extra $586 has still not been put back into my credit card. This company has caused us such a huge headache. Customer service was not very helpful. My husband and I have rented cars before from other companies on trips and we never had such issues. Updated- 4-23-2024 I received an email that said they needed a little more time before they can answer. Still withholding money that doesn't belong to them. I will continue to post updates until this ends. Updated 5-3-2024 My security hold has not been returned to me, even though it has been 3-15 business days from the time I returned the car. I booked with Sixt several years ago and had no issues so I figured I would give them another try on a last minute booking. I suppose I should have checked reviews again since their company scam policy is well documented in the countless bad reviews online. So why would anyone rent a car from them? Low prices, but don't be fooled like me and so many others by the bait-and-switch scam the C-suite execs at Sixt have concocted. The scam is simple, "legal", and applies to every car rental. It leaves every one of their clients spending at least double what they would have if they rented with one of the other companies. FIRST: you reserve the car and pay what you think is the total cost of the rental. SECOND: when you pick up the car they require that you give them a credit card so they can charge a "rental deposit", which is large, and they assure you it will be fully refunded to your credit card when you return the car. I have heard that they often offer you a "free" upgrade vehicle but this was not my experience. THIRD: The reality of this scam sets in when you return the car. Later that day you receive an invoice for charges you thought you already paid including rental time, mileage, fees, taxes, and a premium vehicle charge if you were offered a "free" upgrade. This is all charged against the "rental deposit" you already paid, and in my case it was well above the total cost I already paid for the rental. FINALLY: you receive another email from them claiming that you are responsible for every nick or tiny ding on the paint. My brother warned me of his own experience with this as we were walking up to the car so we took 20 minutes to go over the whole car and document every little scratch in the paint on their app. Yet they still found a tiny scratch on the inside of the door that we missed. This "cost" is then charged against whatever remains of your "rental deposit". There may be some more layers to this as they are still constantly pestering me with emails trying to get me to contact my credit card's rental car insurance, but I have resigned from any further contact with them. It's too late for me. I accept that I have been duped by an unethical money grab business model and I don't plan on spending hours on the phone with my credit card or Sixt. I just figured I would spend that time writing a review to bring their scam further into the light so maybe others are able to avoid it. Maybe I will just short their stock (SIX2 (XETRA)) to get my money back since eventually they are going to run out of suckers and the company will go under. read more

Believe all the 1 star reviews!!!! I saw an ad from them for a Mercedes before a trip to Phoenix, so I thought I'd give them a try. When I picked it up, the Mercedes wasn't available. But a Jaguar was fine. Since this isn't a cut rate company, I didn't bother taking photos of the car when I picked it up. I was very careful with the car, not even touching a curb with a tire. Several weeks after I returned they emailed me and said I owed them for a damaged windshield. I was sure nothing happened so I asked for photos, which they sent. I've attached both to this review. It was supposedly a stone chip in the windshield. But they said it had a crack in it before they gave it to me. That crack would have been directly in my field of view. I would have seen it. It wasn't there. So the stone chip couldn't have happened while I had it. But the very best case scenario for them is they will rent a luxury car with a dangerously cracked windshield. Wow. What a trash experience. I wish I can give 0 stars. Worst experience ever. I've been renting cars for years from all the other companies and never had any problems. These guys charged me $38 extra for my upgrade, more than the original price of $92 as the rep told me (including taxes) and instead charged 130. In addition, they claimed i returned the car late when i returned it 2 hours early. On top of that, the original car they gave me had issues so i returned it for an exchange. Made a reservation for a Mercedes Metris but it was not available. Michael J. delivered the bad news and helped me get into a different car that was close enough to what I needed and wanted. The car was Mercedes GLE 300. Michael took the time to evaluate my needs, expectations, and wants. We came to a resolution quickly and after a brief call downstairs I was in a freshly washed GLE300 ready for the road. The car was a pleasure to drive. Kudos to Michale J at the Phx station. Feedback for Sixt... enough with the bait and switch last minute.. I have never ever, not once gotten the car I wanted when I reserved it in advanced. Basically I'm saying your reservation system sucks.. if I'm renting / reserving a Mercedes don't tell me when it's time to pick up that the Mercedes isn't available but you have a Kia Sedona.. if I wanted a Kia I'd rent one from Payless! I rented from the Phoenix Sky Harbor location. They are scammers. They do not have a process for inspecting the vehicle before and after the rental with their customers. I inspected the vehicle before and at drop off and found nothing. I looked over the car very closely. There was no issues with the vehicle paint but to my surprise I get a email claiming there is a 10 mm scratch down to primer and they want me to pay for it. When I went to pick up my car at Sky Harbor, the agent said I couldn't use my Visa debit card for collateral and no other rental company would either. I told him I rent cars all the time with a debit card. He said Phoenix is too close to Mexico and I could just take the car over the border and never return. I asked him to cancel reservation but he said he couldn't because I booked through Expedia. Expedia would do anything either and even they had hard time getting ahold of a SixT rep.
