For the record- only reason this review isn't lower is the sheer effort of the gentlemen that salvaged our check out last night. Arrived on a late flight: checked to get our prepaid, non refundable car reservation (Mercedes) and was told the car we reserved is gone.. but they'll give us an upgrade SUV. And if we wanted to switch we can do next day. Tried to give us a Highlander - saying it's an "upgrade" from a Benz. Ended up with a Volkswagen Atlas b/c Highlander CarPlay would work. In the end- promised a Benz. Got a Toyata. Ended up with a Volkswagen Atlas. 1 hour transaction time. I do want to call out the effort of one employee (Devin- I believe was his name) - he looked like a one man show: Check in customers . Giving folks keys and even doing some serious customer service appeasing. There were a lot of unhappy customers it seems. Sixt seems like a good idea- but maybe over promising a tad. But it's inexpensive if you're interested in luxury options. Hoping this was a blip in service. read more

I would give zero stars if it was possible. I went to pick up my car at Sixt at Phoenix Sky Harbor yesterday and they refused to honor the reservation. I had made it many months before through Hotwire to secure my space and get the best possible price. First they tried to up-sale and bully me into taking a much more expensive car at $91 dollars per day. They said I needed an all wheel drive to "go into the mountains". I am not a beginner. I told them I had been to flagstaff many times and it was unnecessary. I was going skiing but i would literally be driving 15 minutes on sand covered roads to a parking lot. I had done this the previous two winters. When I insisted on having my original reservation at the original price the salesman then pivoted and said that he could not honor my reservation because there was a crack in my license. He told me that because of the crack it wouldn't scan. This is ridiculous. An optical scanner would not even register this tiny crack. The crack had appeared on the card back in 2019. The card is not broken. It has a little crack. It became impossible to replace it with the onset of covid and the ensuing delays and time restraints at the NYC DMV. In the meantime I have used the license for car rentals at many different dealers including; Hertz, Dollar, Ace, Thrifty, Budget, Alamo and Enterprise. I can provide documentation of this. I have had no issues, not even a mention. I also used it to fly several times and the TSA didn't even blink at accepting it. I insisted on seeing the manager. She told me the agent would lose his job if he accepted the license (theatrical nonsense). I asked her what was I was supposed to do. I was standing there after traveling 2500 miles with my luggage and skis, on buses, trains and planes. I needed to get on the road as soon as possible to beat an approaching snow storm up north and get to Flagstaff before nightfall. She looked me in the eye and said "just go someplace else". I felt I was being singled out because I'm a PoC and I told them so. They mocked, jeered and hooted at me as I walked away. If you don't believe me I'm sure there is security footage of this somewhere. It was my good fortune that there was an Enterprise nearby. I have used them many times, more than any other car rental agency. They rented me a card immediately. They did not question my license. One of the agents even put a little piece of tape on the license to stabilize it. They did not try to up-sale me. They did try to pressure me into extras. They were courteous and helpful. I got exactly the car I desired. The rate was reasonable for a last minute booking. I did unfortunately lose my premium rate of $1417.18 for a thirty day rental. I had to pay $1974.22 a difference of $557.04. One of the Agents at Enterprise told me that there was a huge demand for rentals that week in Phoenix because of several conventions. I suspect that also was a factor. I count myself very lucky Enterprise was close by and was as always, helpful and accommodating. I will never use Sixt again. It does not surprise me that there is a plenitude of online one star ratings for this dishonest, disrespectful company that serves up excuses and humiliation to its customers in heaping platefuls. read more

I had a great experience with Sixt when I rented in July 2019 for a vegas trip. We ended up getting a 2019 Escalade ESV for a week trip. I read reviews on social media and yelp about the bad experiences they've had with Sixt. Decided to try it for myself. Glad I did. Definitely will be coming back. Things you should know that I found out after I rented 1. Very high deposit for my rental, it was $1k. I'd imagine it varies by car. 2. In fine print Sixt says the car will be inspected again when cleaned. I recommend you take photos or video of the car prior to driving off the lot and after you drop it off, before they clean it. read more

take due diligence and you'll be fine. I was so nervous reading all reviews here. Make sure you check in online before arriving (with DL photo) and choose car upon arrival at Airport - just pick up keys in basement and be gone. At budget and avis huge line ups but SixT lessor known none. With check in you just pick up key you should have declined all insurance online so should not get dinged for it later. Cavaet now. Don't just take it for granted. Photo video everything. Have guy go with you . Had nice guy who did it as a favor and helped me check everything. every scratch chip etc..... take the effort to save grief. You don't get receipt only thru email. So check beforehand. I spent like 15-20 min checking the car in the dimly lit garage- use photo flashlight to look. Every damage is vaguely noted. Upon return the guy just assures you have full gas and keys. He doesn't really look at damages. Take photo of tank/car condition before leaving. The final invoice comes like 2 days later so you won't know until then is all final. Note book with right to cancel as their rates kept falling every day towards the end so i cancel/rebooked like 4times. Overall no diff from anywhere else. it's a big company in Europe, just unknown here but much cheaper than other brands. if you are not willing to gamble try costco bookings of other car agencies read more

Like many others SIXT has demanded payment from me for damages which were not my responsibility and also likely inflated the cost of those damages. No inspection of the vehicle was done on pickup or drop-off. A subsequent email was sent with damages I certainly did not cause. This is more of a warning rather than a review. Just had my worst experience in renting a car from Sixt. I arrived at the Phoenix airport Sixt desk at 11:00PM and the sign stated it was open until 1:00 AM. There were no agents available while 6-7 other rental companies were all fully staffed. There is an option to sign in on cell phone using Q code but after several attempts this did not work. At the same point in the sign in the logging in signal went on for several minutes and never connected with the system. I finally had to go to Budget and rent a car. I will never use this company again. Also, I booked via Expedia which I have used for 30 years and it pushed Sixt which is why I used it. Expedia also messed up my hotel reservation. Unfortunately, I will no longer use Expedia while booking trips. read more

I rented a car from this company over the weekend, and when I arrived, they could not honor the reservation because the car I requested was not available. The agent was very nice and friendly, but he said the car I reserved was not available. Long story short I was forced to pay a $200 dollar upgrade because they overbooked. My good friend is an attorney and after reviewing the contract and my reservation, he said that this company is clearing violating Arizona law. (A.R.S. §44-1521 et seq.) They told me I would have to wait 2-3 hours to pick up my reserved car or pay an additional $50 a day to have one now. Because of a time crunch I opted to pay the additional fee. You pick up the car in a super dark garage, no one goes over damage with you or how to flag it. I took photos of some the major damage I noticed. Upon returning the car sixt went over the car with a flash light accusing me of scraping the car on the lower front bumper. Never happened, I barely drove it. A normal rental car agency would not have even flagged the minor scrapes. I travel very frequently and rent cars all the time. I won't be using this company ever again. read more

**DO NOT RENT - THEY ENGAGE IN FRAUD** I wish I had read the yelp reviews before I decided to rent from them. Notice that other folks have had the EXACT same problem that I had. I rented the car for a three day trip with my parents. I returned the car on time and the attendant there noticed no new damage other than what was pre-existing. Two days later, I get a notice saying that there is a "chip" on the windshield. See the pictures and decide for yourself whether this "damage" is a problem that reasonably a car rental company should charge you for. And when I read the reviews on yelp, surprise, others have been defrauded in the exact same way! To rub salt into the wound, and of course to scam you out of more of your money, they charged a "Loss of Use" and "Admin Fee" that tripled the amount the supposed cost of repairing the damage. My husband and I landed a car rental deal with Sixt through Hotwire for a weekend trip to Phoenix. We hadn't heard of the company, but rolled with it, and everything turned out fine. It was in the same complex as all the other car rental companies, a shuttle hop from our airport terminal. When we got to the counter on a Friday evening, there was no line. Amazingly, some horrible asshole managed to cut us as we approached the counter--he slid over from an adjacent rental company's counter and just stood in front of us. We were about three feet from the counter at the time. It was so blatant I think the Sixt representative should have said something. Instead, she helped him while we stood behind gaping. On the bright side, it was a pleasure to watch this dickhead pay out the fucking nose for his weekend rental. He'd come over to Sixt to haggle after getting too high a quote at the next counter, and he seemed to think he was driving a hard bargain. Yet when the Sixt woman quoted him $250 for his rental, he took the deal like a sucker, lapping up every single upsell. Sweet, beautiful karma. We paid $75 for our rental, and that seemed more appropriate. The Sixt lady didn't try to upsell us, either. We got a Chevy Trax--the same model as Mr. Rude's--and it gave us no problems. Pick-up and drop-off were nice and easy. I wouldn't go out of my way to support one rental company over another, but we had a good enough time with Sixt that I'd be happy if Hotwire matched us again. read more

While the staff was nice my overall experience with this company was terrible. I don't rent cars very often however this agency was terrible. After blaming a crack on the windshield on my (still not sure I caused it) they made if absolutely impossible to be reimbursed through my company for the cost. They refused to send the proper documentation including a fleet log of what cars they had available during the repair time, instead just charged a ridiculous amount of money for the "days lost of using the car." I have insurance through my credit card company and my agent at the company said they get complaints about SIXT all the time and deal with the insurance claims on a daily basis. I decided to give them a shot and make a reservation - online; for an upcoming trip. The price point for the vehicle was excellent and I was looking forward to this experience. Price point online for a Mercedes Benz CLA was $35.00 per day for 7 days.. When I went to check out the total (including additional fees and charges) came to $414.00. UMMMM, WTF? I begrudgingly proceeded to place the rental, and after doing so, decided to do a little more research. Needless to say YELP told me everything I expected. This is NOT the type of company I want to patronize. I attempted to cancel my reservation and received the following message: "This reservation was booked at a binding pre-paid rate. If you cancel the reservation, you will be charged 155.40 USD (plus tax)." Mind you the reservation was made DIRECTLY on the SIXT website, and I prepaid because of the discount. Mind you, I attempted to cancel my reservation less than 30 minutes after making it. I can assure you, this will be the only rental I will EVER make with SIXT - and being as I am part of a Traveling Baseball Club, the 100+ families that are on this trip will be referred to a different carrier. This is not the first-impression to make with a new client and as such, I will not refer anyone to SIXT in the future. Based on the reviews, I will be filming a full walk-around video of the Car; BEFORE I leave and when I Return. Had a horrible experience at Fox rental car so we came over to Sixt. Mike was very accommodating and helpful. He got us into a car. Only thing I don't like is the fact they don't walk around the car with you, you have to do it yourself a if there is a problem you have to go back to the counter. Didn't take too long to get the paperwork done. No hidden fees. I had problems from the minute I hit the Sixt counter! There was no waiting in line to rent a car and I had reserved a Cadillac for a day rental. I was in town ONLY 6 hours for a funeral so I was on a tight schedule and I was in a hurry! I rent about 4 cars a year and this was terrible! They were out of Cadillac's and they tried to give me a Volvo that was way too small to sit 4 people comfortably and I ended with a Chrysler Pacifica with body damage and NO GPS a busted marker light. I spent 1 hour and 20 minutes trying to get a vehicle that would accommodate 4 adults and get me on the road. There are name should be SIXTH not (SIXT) because there are at least 5 other car rental companies I will consider next time and this one is NOT one of them! read more

Just arrived to PHX. Every car rental place was packed and I thought we were lucky when we arrived and there was no line at Sixt. It took the gentlemen at the service counter 15 minutes to get us set up with our GMC Yukon. We came down to the garage to get our vehicle and the attendant down here now tells us that they just put the car through the car wash and we have to wait even longer. Why wasn't this done before we arrived? We had a reservation. No apology, no recognition that they could do better. Bad service. read more

All i all it was a good experience. I worried over the reviews bit decided tonsave the $100 and give them a try. Checkin was a breeze and it took very little time to get the brand new Hyundai out of the garage. I expected a tiny car but ours was a 4 door. The only annoyance was the customer service around not buying their insurance. Most places push a little and the Sixt employee seemed disgruntled by it. They said that since we didn't buy coverage they wouldn't dova walk around of the car with us. What that tells me is that their insurance is more profit center than protection. As it probably is for most companies and yet I have never had the unfriendly customer service to go with it. Finally, I left my hat in the car and tried to use the lost and found online but their form requires a rental agreement number which they don't provide anywhere. I emailed customer service and never heard back. In the end I believe it was a good deal overall. I don't really expect there to be good service for that low price. Took a week to get the money switched over from my debit card to my credit card even after I was told on the phone and in person it would be less than 24 hours. Cannot get an actual explanation or answer for why I was charged more than my original receipt even though they are identical except they charged me taxes twice. Took 13 days to get a response from their customer service. Was told the car I rented wasn't available and I had to upgrade to get a car.. which I think was a lie, then was charged because they didn't have the car available they let me reserve. Just so frustrating that nothing actually gets resolved. Also the people who had the car before me left all sorts of stuff in the car that was still there when I left the airport with the car. In regards to confirmation # 9860635306 I was told by the staff that if I did not pickup the car I would not be charged EVEN IF IT WAS PRE-PAID. I later saw the charge on my statement. I called to get a refund and they told me the fee was almost the total amount of the reservation. $96 fee for a $113 reservation?! I didn't even get the car or even a notice that I wasn't there for my reservation. What kind of customer service is this? Charge someone for doing nothing? Do yourself a favor and go with ANY other rental company. your business is about the best prices and best customer service.... Plans change for people and having you screw them every time is not the best way to make a name for yourselves. Your "pre-pay" option is BS, we give you money ahead of time and for that you cant change a reservation but if I make a reservation and not show up your more lenient? SHAFTED Absurd and immoral. This needs to be fixed. P.S. Only way to get your money back is to make another reservation and have them "credit" your account. Wow, I wish I had read reviews before reserving a car here! They are claiming that there is $700 of damage to a car I rented, when I know unequivocally that the car was returned in the same condition I rented it in. There was already lots of unfixed damage to the car when we rented it, and upon return, we were told to leave it in a huge line of cars that had piled up about 10 deep and five wide, with people having to push through the rows of cars with their luggage to get to the terminal. $700 is more than it would cost to repaint the entire car, and this is clearly a scam that this unethical company pulls all the time. I'm reporting them to the BBB and I highly suggest you look elsewhere for a rental car. Run away. read more

I'll start with saying this isn't the first time I've used Sixt. It is however, the first major problem they have given me. I am a gold card member with them. I rented a GMC Yukon for a week with them. Took excellent care of the truck, no damage whatsoever. Now, a few weeks after the rental, they are trying to get me to pay for "a stone chip" on the windshield. I have dated pics negating the damage, which they chose to ignore. So it looks like I'll be having to waste my time and Sixt's in court to fight off this bogus claim. I also canceled my future rental next week in Dallas with Sixt. read more

After the fact, they reverted to the original price AND tagged on $220, claiming I had "upgraded." Extremely satisfied with the service and my rental. I waited less than 10 minutes. I originally rented a CLA but got bumped to a brand new Volvo V60 for less than $20 a day before tax and fee. The car had less than 20 miles on it and had the new car smell. The car was nicely spec'ed with the gray metallic paint. Drop off was a breeze and would definitely rent here again. read more

What a horrible experience. Made a reservation for a vehicle type I needed on my trip. Arrived and was told that there was no vehicles, spent an hour waiting for them to figure something out, was told to take a car and come back and return it in the morning so took the car at 9pm and returned on opening. Spent three hours with the vehicle, returned it no verification or anything for the staff. Was given the correct vehicle, and half way through that reservation was told I scratched the previous vehicle for $500 of damage, on a date and time that I didn't have it. Fueled up the other car at the gas station a mile away, and then received another modified invoice for fueling. When they sent a photo showing the damage it was blurry and unidentifiable, won't respond to emails. Just a demand for payment. I hope you stay way, I wish I did. read more

Don't rent from Sixt, they said I scratched the wheel on the car and charged me $765. When I disputed it and pointed out I didn't do it and no person checks the car in or out with you. Maybe someone did it after I rented it or maybe one of their employees did it. They said to bad and charged me, they also threatened collections if it didn't get paid. Went back still got declined, forgot to up the max on my card, set that up. Went back still declined, 15 minutes later finally got it resolved. Chip on my card was bad, had to mag swipe. I feel bad for not getting the gentleman's name at the rental centers name but he was friendly and helpful. The full size truck I was set to get was wrecked right before I got it. They quickly got me I to a smaller truck but it had a bed cover on it which made it work just as well if not better. The line for thrifty was hours long but I was in and out of sixt in 10 minutes. Highly recommend and will use in the future. read more
