Sixt is a terrible rental car company. I had the same experience as others below with regard to them sending me an email days after returning the car about a scratch that in no way shape or form occurred while I was in possession of this vehicle. I will never use them again and am reporting them to the better business bureau. As soon as I received the email I immediately googled Sixt and fraudulent claims of damage and lo and behold there is an EXPOSE about it by Fox News online. We booked sixt through Travelocity and ended up paying over 3 times the amount quoted on our reservation. They charged an additional $25 per day for insurance, saying that the insurance we pre purchased on Travelocity wasn't valid. Additionally, they charged a $22 "counter service fee" and another misc $20 fee. I do not recommend using this company. They are not transparent or honest with their pricing. Had a great experience with this company! We was very skeptical regarding the rental amount and the level of vehicle that we were offered when we booked it. We shopped around and saw that Sixt was offering a premium SUV for LESS that standard SUV and some standard car prices at other rental agencies. The lines were normal when we arrived to rent, and it took a typical amount of time to get through the line. Weren't overly sold on any upgrades or insurance. We were able to easily find the vehicle in the garage. We were able to enjoy a Mercedes GLS which seated 7 with lots of room for luggage. It was clean and smelled basically new. Even got the kids excited about it! When we returned the vehicle, it was easy to drop off. Attendants were polite and guided us where to park and checked us in while answering all questions. We were 1st time renters with them and bit the bullet and were VERY pleased. Recommended. read more

Horrible, horrible service! I am STILL waiting to speak with a manager, though we briefly exchanged e-mails without actually addressing the issue at hand. She assumes it was because they refused to take my debit card, it is due to the way I was treated and the comments made. I had booked my car through rentalcars.com and figured everything would be fine as I have rented from other car places before with no issues. When I arrived they refused to accept my reservation because I only had my debit card vs my credit card. And even though I live in CA I have not changed my ID yet to reflect that so I had an AZ license. The guy refused to work with me at all. I offered to call my husband to provide my credit card info since I just didn't have it on me as I have a small 'wallet phone case' that limits me to 2-3 cards and I generally only carry my debit card, drivers license and health insurance card (for emergencies ;) lol), but that was not acceptable (okay, totally understandable). He told me they don't accept debit cards, which is not true as I will provide the link to their websites payment methods accepted section. https://www.sixt.com/payment-methods/ It clearly states that for a debit card you must show your flight itinerary (which I had available), I also had plenty of money for a deposit so that was never an issue either. The representative outright accused me of going to steal a car and take it to Mexico. Although, I am still trying to figure out how that statement even came about since I am a caucasian female that works in medicine and my husband is a pediatric specialist as well. :/ As well as, the representative barely even looked at me. He was more focused on playing on facebook than looking at me in the face. Not sure if he is a Mexican that is racist against white people or if he just looks down on women? I am still shocked that I was treated this way, no resolution has been met. Like other reviewers, I have since reported this incident to the attorney general, I am in the process of writing up a formal letter to all local newspapers so this potentially becomes an article, as well as submitted this to ABC 15 'On Your Side' segment. For this appalling treatment, I request that the rental I did have to take from another company be paid for. I will potentially seek action as well for the appalling way I was treated as I feel that the comments were discriminatory and demeaning to a potential highly valued customer. Usually I book of the Vehicle online and I will purchase the loss and damage waiver at the counter Because I guarantee the rental agent will not add any additional charges cause they have to push some sales. But this time the price was including the LDW and that all I need. Well when I went to pick the Vehicle the agent was trying to sell me road assist and I said no thank you. At the time I was with my brother in law and he asked for his info and he charged me for additional driver which I didn't ask for it and when I asked about the price he gave me the original price without the additional driver but he charged me for it and the deposit and told me you will have it back when you return the vehicle. When I went to return the car I didn't get my money back and I realized they charged me for the additional driver. read more

Worst experience ever. Was overcharged AFTER dropping car off, first day of vacation with car, an alert showed up on dash stating car was 4100 miles past due for service, then oil light came on. Had to waste a day to return car for replacement. Spoke to front desk upon returning car and was told a manager would call me and of course no call. Paid for rental before picking up car only to receive an additional $89.00 on charge card after drop off it off. Tried calling to dispute, no answer on number. BUYER BEWARE.... Looking at reply I just received to this post says it all. They would love to help, third time I heard that, but no way to get in touch with them and no contact info left. read more

I rented a car from them in Phoenix back in October. When I dropped it off there was damage which I didn't do. No one from Sixt checked the car before I drove away with it but they were there when I returned. Now they are charging me over $600 and sending me to collections. Do not rent from them. read more

STOLEN PROPERTY!!!! We turned in our rental car, rode ten minutes to the terminal, and realized we had left something of value in the vehicle. I called immediately, while my husband rode the bus back. In that time, they said they couldn't find the item and get this.....they are not responsible for any lost or stolen items, no matter how quickly they disappear. Unfortunately, this is not the first time with this company. My daughter left a present in the rear seat last time we rented from this company, as it wasn't in the luggage compartment, it was left behind when we turned in the rental, and it too disappeared, never to be seen again. The manager Devin said that SIXT does not process the cars when they are returned, it's done by an outsourced company. The kicker is, a female employee wearing SIXT logo wear checked the front and back seats and didn't mention that we left something in the vehicle, even when we were walking away. Rented last weekend. Super friendly staff at the rental counter. Then when getting keys in the garage, attendant tried to swap out a Mercedes rental to a Kia and I was told to remedy the situation I had to go back to the upstairs rental counter. Upon returning to upstairs rental desk and receiving several "my bads and I'm sorry" I went on my way with Mercedes. Fabulous car. When I returned the vehicle and received bill it was the classic bait and switch... charged extra etc. Everything that was promised at the rental counter was off including pricing and return times etc. NEVER rent from them. When we rented the vehicle we did look for damage such as dings and dents. Apparently scuff marks are also included. We had scuff marks on the top of the rear door. The attendant working the returns highlighted the entire bumper in orange. Outrageous! We eventually received the bill which was only changed for the rental fee and not any repairs. Worst rental experience ever!! The staff was unprofessional and aloof. When asked if we were waiting for a car, we replied "yes", the staff person walked off without telling us what was happening. He never returned. 10 minutes later I aproached a Sixt employee asking for help. (there were a few people sitting on chairs, conversing loudly). When I asked for help, they huffed and walked off. No indication that our car was coming. 20 minutes later, we asked for help from another employee regarding our car. After 30 minutes our car finally arrived. I rent a lot of cars in a lot of cities, and while I normally try to avoid chains, it can be hard to do in places like Phoenix. That said, I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at Sixt. First plus - walking past a humungous line at Fox Rent A Car (probably at least an hour wait) to a 4-person-deep line at Sixt - I was at the counter within 10 minutes. Second plus - my service was fast, friendly and on point. No arguing or pushing about insurance when I declined, no surprises. Just exactly what I ordered at the exact price I booked. I was away from the counter within about 3 minutes of walking up to it. Also I got a free upgrade to a Nissan Sentra. Third plus - The car was clean and ready to rock when I got down to the desk. No waiting, no BS. Fourth - The car worked great. Returning the car was even easier - drive up, drop it, walk away. Easy-peasy. I'll easily rent from Sixt again. read more

This place will test your patience on how they handle customers. There were two people behind the desk, and neither of them had a clue what was going on. I had a full-size car rental, and they kept discussing back and forth between themselves what cars they had available. They kept making calls to the garage verifying what was in stock. Eventually, after nearly half and hour, they just upgraded us to an SUV. When you check out your car, there's no gate to sign off on any damages you might have on your vehicle before heading out. You don't realize that (usually there's a final gate before you're let out of the garage) -- in this case, you just go and you end up outside. Just weird. I'd prefer not using them again. Aren't employees (at all rental companies) taught that you should check expected reservations for the day BEFOREHAND? read more

First of all, we were charged an additional $91.00 above what they quoted us originally and just went ahead and charged our credit card without us knowing about it. When we called to ask about it they said it was for "additional insurance" which we had expressly told them we did NOT want. We also forgot a Very expensive workout watch and bluetooth headphones in the car and were told at first that they had them, but when we went to pick them up they had mysteriously disappeared. We called customer service about all this and was told a manager would call us, which he never did. We also wrote several letters to the company with no reply. **STOP DON'T DO IT, REALLY DON'T DO IT** I rented a car from here for a week. I was happy to skip the lines at all the other rental desk and walked right up. My customer service experience started out good I got an upgrade and was happy. it was my birthday that week so I took a benz. Shortly after pulled off the lot an hour or so the tire pressure light came on. I put air in the tire (thinking it was no big deal My Mistake) and it was fine the remainder of the week. When returning the car I was told all will be ok and they would take care of it no issue. What the attendant should have said was we would wait 3 months before we will send you a $250 for a new tire because it had a nail in it.. I don't know where the nail came from, but to me the tire could have been patched $40 and that would have been ok in my book instead they claim the tire was replaced. Overall I should have paid attention to all the other reviews online to see that this is what they do. Yes, some cars are cheaper to rent here however they will get there money later in damage claims and poor customer service during that process. read more

Sixt was by far the best deal I could find online for my 3 day Phoenix trip. I picked up the car Wednesday afternoon and walked right up to the counter. They didn't push any upgrades or insurance on me. In fact, they gave me an upgrade to a midsized Nissan Sentra. You go to the bottom floor garage to pick up your car and do your own self-inspection. The car was clean, inside and out. It was new, just about 3,000 miles and a push start. Getting out of the airport was easy and return Friday night was super fast and easy, as well. The gentleman looked at the car to check for damage and a full gas tank. He then said I'm all good and verified my email address to send a receipt. I received the email immediately with no unexpected charges. I would definitely use Sixt again! Their deals can't be beat and their customer service is great. read more

This was my first time renting with this company, and - even with the problems we had with the reservation and my corporate card - I am a fan. I flew into Phoenix from Seattle to get an SUV and deliver some crates to Bend, OR. I would then drive the vehicle to Seattle and fly home from there. Not easy arrangements to make, but they had the best deal, so we went with it. Once in PHX, they didn't have an SUV. Paul, the young gentleman at the counter, said he'd find something for me, so I described the size of the cargo and he made a phone call. He said, "Looks like you get a free upgrade!" Unfortunately, with the upgraded hold on the credit card, all we got was smoke from the machine. It seems that the deposit they require on your CC is DOUBLE the amount of the entire rental. Ouch. I had to call my employer and ask if they could raise my limit. Sixt does not take debit cards, even for double the amount. All told, the CC issue took a couple of hours. I didn't want to take it out on Paul, who was not only professional, but very helpful and sweet. He was even willing to call the competition to see if they had an SUV for me. We go the limit raised, and getting the car itself took minutes. Paul said he had hung onto the upgrade (even though other SUVs had come in during our wait), because I deserved it. They honored the original price. I enjoyed the long drive in my BMW. Drop off at SEA was easy-peesy, and I was on my way to TSA with no delay. read more

Upon arriving at Sixt to pick up my vehicle I was greeted by Derrick. I was unable to locate my drivers license so he offered to have a friend/other vendor that could help me rent a car through a 3rd party vendor if I couldn't locate my license. This person came over by the counter and I advised Derrick that I wanted to sit down across the way and go thru my purse to locate my Drivers license. after about 5 minutes I located my license and looked over by the Sixt counter and the other guy/friend/3rd party vendor had left so I went back to the Sixt counter to continue with checking out my rental and was informed by Derrick that he had cancelled my reservation. He then quickly started another transaction for a different vehicle Rental and confirmed it would be the same price as the one he had cancelled. I was fine with that but he then asked me if I wanted extra insurance and I indicated that I was insured through the insurance on my own vehicle coverage. I also told him that I have rented with Sixt in the past and did not get extra insurance. He insisted and stated that coverage is different in Arizona. I said no and again confirmed that my rental price was the same as I had prepaid and he stated yes. After returning home it came to my attention that he had tacked on insurance and my account was charged $297. I tried calling to make a complaint and it is virtually impossible to reach anyone by phone and their website is no help either. ***you do not have to purchase their insurance if you are covered through your own personal insurance carrier. When reserving the rental car we rejected insurance on the reservation. We received a receipt for the total cost of the vehicle and our card was charged. At the time of pickup, my husband was informed he was to initial for an added premium plan that would be refunded at the time of return of the vehicle. After returning the vehicle we were charged the additional premium because he initialed for it to be added. We rented a car for three days and it cost us $509. We have tried to get the amount reduced with numerous emails that are delay answered only to tell us that he initialed to pay the amount, not paying attention to him when he tells them the amount was to be refunded when the car was returned. We will never use this company again and will be sure to inform our credit card, who had a referral to use this company, that they are deceitful and should not be recommended to any of their customers. He was never informed that the protection was additional insurance, just that it would be refunded from our card when the car was returned. "Thieves!!! I left some expensive sunglasses in the middle console of a vehicle I returned recently to the Sixt Phoenix airport location. Once I landed at my destination, I called and no one had seen them. I knew exactly where I left them. Totally slipped my mind to grabbed them and a Sixt employee stole them. Karma is a beast. Just wait and see. My young son left his iPad before (with a more accredited rental car company) and they overnighted it to me-no problem. Not these thieves!!!!!! Plus, the customer service is bad. I had made a reservation through Expedia on a trip from Phoenix to Texas which said free cancellation . It's been 2 months that Expedia sends the cancellation notice and Sixt is not responding back. Never picked up the car never stepped in to Their office and I have to pay all 500$ on a service I never received. read more

They still have a lot of work to do to make this location business friendly. There is no express pickup so you need to stand in line upstairs to get your contract. With two people in front of me that took way to long. When I went down to collect the car they have a service rather than their own staff and the service was poor. The one staff member was not at the counter and I had to ask another companies staff to track down the SIXT rep. Returning the car was the same problem - nobody waiting for returns and I had to go to the desk to get someone. Overall a bad experience and I would avoid them until they fix their staffing. Following my review giving several shortcomings of my experience with renting from Sixt Phoenix, Sixt reimbursed a substantial part of the amount I had paid. I am impressed with the professional service Sixt gave in correcting the negative feelings I had in the aftermath. I would be happy to rent from the company again, but I will be more sensible and aware of the negotiations I will face when I approach the desk to collect the car! I believe this is the second time we've used Sixt but I can't remember the location of our first experience. This time, we rented in Phoenix AZ and encouraged our traveling friends to do the same. Renting a car in PHX isn't an easy experience since all the agencies are offsite from the airport and you need to take a shuttle bus to pick up your car. We arrived at the rental car terminal and every agency, except Sixt, had a long line of people waiting - I wasn't sure if that was a good sign or a bad sign but it turned out to be very good! The counter staff was super efficient and helpful - offering us an upgrade to a luxury car for a ridiculously low price so we jumped at it. We finished up our paperwork and proceeded to the garage to find our vehicle. It was spotlessly clean and ready to go. Since it was a new foreign car we were taking some time to check out the controls and set it up to our liking - that's when a Sixt representative walked over and asked if we needed help. She showed us how to pair our phones to the bluetooth and other nifty things. Then she asked if we needed directions (since the car didn't have GPS) and before we took off, gave us two bottles of water for the road - now that's what I call service!! We had no issues with car all week and the return process couldn't have been easier. I'm going to tell all my friends, Sixt is our new preferred rental car agency! read more

I found it interesting that I reserved a compact car for $22 a day, and was told I needed to pay in full in advance. When I arrived at Sky Harbor Airport, I was told the car I reserved was not available. I was then "upgraded for free" but had to leave an additional $269.00 deposit. When I dropped off the car, I was told to just leave it and they would email me a receipt. I was also told they would put the deposit back on my credit card. However, my bank account shows no refund, just a charge, and the receipt shows a "pretend" chip or two in the windshield. No rock hit the windshield on my trip. After reading all of the other reviews, I can see that this is the experience that the majority of people have reported about Sixt as well. I am feeling like the company is a scam. I come from a family of attorneys, and after consulting a family member, I was encouraged to demand my refund as this was an illegal company practice. I had never used Sixt before, but did so over the holidays since they were about 33% cheaper than any of the "major" rental companies. I had used Fox and Payless in the past and did not have good experiences, so I was a little wary about trying Sixt. When we arrived at the counter, we were the only ones in line. The other counters had long waits, so that was a plus for us. I signed up for some automated kiosk check-in, but learned when we arrived that it did not yet exist. Kind of strange, but since there wasn't a line, it wasn't really an issue. The car we rented had low miles and still had the new car smell. Leaving the lot was easy (almost too easy... no person in a booth to check our credentials before leaving the lot), and returning was just as simple. The agent checked the car upon return and emailed us a receipt. They did put a hold of $250 on my credit card when we left the lot, and though I don't recall other rental car companies doing this, it didn't really affect me. I didn't need to cancel or change anything, so I can't speak to any issues with that. Overall, the process getting in and out was a breeze, and the car was above average. read more

This is the second time we have had a problem with rude employees at Sixt. If Tayja represents this company with her rude demeanor and behavior well she should be terminated. Second airport second bad experience. There is a reason why they are "Sixth" what a joke. UPDATE...... Sixth wants me to send my reservation # so they can look Into this further. We had a terrific experience using Sixt Rent A Car. Jamie and I needed to rent a car for our trip out to Arizona for our wedding, and had wanted to "upgrade" to something nicer than just a budget compact sedan. Jamie did the research, found Sixt, and after seeing their prices, we were absolutely flabbergasted! Check-in at the Sixt desk was a small wait; they only had one representative on staff at the time. Although he wasn't the epitome of professionalism, he was polite and helpful. Our original reservation would have landed us in a Volvo, but we had wanted something a tad bit nicer. He suggested an upgrade that they had available in-house. We rented a C-class gorgeous black Mercedes Benz for a little more than what we would have paid for a budget compact sedan elsewhere. The interior was thoroughly cleaned, and featured the latest in technology and style. The exterior, however, had been rained on and was not washed since, a bit of a disappointment. When we received the keys, we did have to ask where the car was located [I guess they assume you understand how the store the cars] and also ask how to start the car [yes, seriously. It had a key fob, but a push-button start. Hint: press down the brake as you press start.]. In that regard, service reps could really use a refresher: I don't know where I'm going and I don't know what I'm doing. The winner here, in the end, was us. We got an amazing deal ($33/day for a full week's rental, not including extra driver charge) on a smokin' hot car that was way nicer than anything we'd ever driven. All of the payment went through fine, no smoke and mirrors on charges (though you will have to pay to have an extra driver listed, worth it for us). I paid for the car in full before I arrived for a quick check out. That didn't happen had to wait in line and go through all the steps again as the counter person had a cold and was more then happy to cough all over me several times. Have to take a swing at more upgrades. Then SIXT placed a hold for $500 on my credit card 3 times what the price of the rental was. Upon arrival the attendant treats you like you have wrecked the car going over every inch of the car and the interior tells you every thing is good and you will be emailed a receipt. Knowing full well I should have never left without a receipt, I did because he told me nobody gets a receipt it will be emailed. So I left went to the front desk waited in line again got the receipt. Noticed an extra $6.57 charge on the bill after enquiring about it I'm told I didn't bring the car in with the fuel full, which is a sham car was filled up, close by like I have been doing the past ten years. For $6.57 I'm not going to do anymore follow-up with it other then post it a couple of times and if others get the same over charges and post it as well I'm sure it will eventually catch some hungry attorney who will eventually get even with SIXT. What comes around goes around. Just not sure how $6.57 is worth getting negative posts over and losing a customer for life. RESOLUTION SIXT management was all over this and kept digging deeper After 17 plus emails we got to the bottom of the over charge some how I turned the car in two minutes early so they took a day off my bill and charged me for 3 gallons of gas to make it up "Tank was full" So they ended up refunding all three gallons of gas which was around $51. Had they just said thanks for renting no change on the estimate I would have been fine. This place is a cluster Funk I do hand it to management for getting to the bottom of this and I'm going to try it again I do like the cars I have doubled the star value from the original review. read more

Best car rental experience ever! I showed up after a lousy flight; hot, tired and just ready to not hassle with a car rental. I didn't have to. Even though there were people ahead of me giving the desk guy a hard time and he was scrambling to make it all happen, he was nice, cheerful, courteous. Then the news; " I'm sorry, we don't have the car you requested ... We have upgraded you " to a brand new Volvo (10 miles on the odometer) and off I went - 10 minutes later I was on the road. Terrible rental company. I booked an original reservation for 7 days, 9/10- 9/17. I get to phx rental and they have 9/10 - 9/16, I advised her of incorrect dates, she redoes contract but the dates didn't change. I went from $290.00 prepaid to $547.00, spoke with customer service he tells me I should have had car in at 2pm contract says midnight, they charge for an additional day. Customer service rude, no supervisor or manager to speak with. I couldn't even cancel prepaid rental, what a trap! Absolutely last time ever renting with Sixt company. We got our reservation through Hotwire. They were the best in value giving us a mid-size SUV for 7 days for $293 with unlimited miles. Since they didn't have the mid-sized SUV when we got there, they upgraded us for free to a Chevy Suburban. The SUV was very clean, had a in-dash GPS, satellite radio, and a lot of room for two people. The desk personnel handling our rental were very courteous and friendly. No delay in getting our car. I would rent from these guys again. read more

I have had some good experiences with Sixt in the past at their West Palm Beach, FL location. The experience I had at the Phoenix location was not good. After telling me the car that was supposed to be for me was damaged, the counter person said he'd be right back and walked away. He returned a few minutes later, pointed across the building and said your car rental is over there. He walked with me to the Dollar Rental counter and then left me there. There was no consent for this switch to Dollar requested from me. I am already not too thrilled with this because I know nothing about Dollar and prefer to do business with companies I have researched or have a little background on. Then the Dollar agent gives me a price that is $27 more than my Sixt quote. I say since Sixt transferred me over to you, honor the price I was quoted or send me back to Sixt. The Dollar agent seem to be irritated by my request which I think was pretty reasonable. The Dollar agent did grant it but why I did I need this grief to begin with? Also the Sixt agent had indicated other cars were available so I'm not sure why I wasn't just switched to a different car. read more
