After renting with Sixt twice hoping for the Mercedes they advertise and it never being available I've given up. First they gave me a Volvo instead and then the next time they gave me a Cadillac. Completely disgusted with Sixt! We reserved a midsize SUV for our trip to Phoenix however upon arrival they tried to give us a compact SUV. In order to get the size we reserved we had to pay an additional $120 up charge. Ridiculous! But the buck doesn't stop there... When we returned the car we forgot a small bear and a large professional grade DSLR Canon camera on the floor board of the front passenger side. We realized this within the hour and high tailed it back to the rental facility. We arrived just as the EMPTIED freshly vacuumed car did. Sixt denied removing anything from the vehicle and told us they were not responsible and just file a claim. All of this happened in under one hour! Should we have been more observant? Yes. We were exhausted from a two full hike to the base of the Grand Canyon and out in 120°. My displeasure is with the customer service or lack thereof. I will not be a returning customer nor will I recommend Sixt to anyone. Hope you enjoy our family photos! They were memories a year in the making! SIXT employees couldn't even take the time to check with their cleaning crew. "I'm sorry but there's nothing we can do." Your Phoenix CREW could have easily contacted the cleaning crew who had JUST cleaned out the vehicle because we came BACK to the rental place within the hour and the car was cleaned and placed BACK in position ready for a new customer. AND we did place the information in lost and found BUT because this had JUST happened, we could have received our items immediately. But NO, we get the run around and that is what stinks. I'm not normally one to rant about companies on the internet--I'd rather just pay and get on with my life. But I had an experience with Sixt tonight that really disturbed me. So much so that I signed up for Yelp just to post the experience. To preface, I reserved a 4Runner about a month ago to pick up at the Phoenix airport. I arrived yesterday (8/14). When I went to pick up the vehicle, I was informed that no 4Runners were available. No big deal--I never expect car rental companies to actually have the advertised vehicle in stock. Instead, I received a Chevy Traverse. When I drove the vehicle to dinner on 8/15, it drove fine, but upon returning to the hotel, I noticed a wet oil spot on the pavement where I had been parked overnight. I parked and immediately called Sixt customer service to inform them of the oil spot. When I called, a young woman name Rachel took my call. I explained that the vehicle was leaking oil. She told me that I should return the vehicle to the airport for an exchange. I explained to her that I did not want to do that since I am here for work and I don't have time to be making hourlong trips to the airport to exchange a faulty vehicle. I explained to her that the vehicle drives fine, but if Sixt wanted to bring a replacement to my hotel, I'd be happy to exchange the vehicle. Rachel then asked for my insurance information. I asked her why she needed that, and she explained that there would be a charge for sending a tow truck to the hotel. I explained to her that I did not want to be charged for a tow truck. I reiterated that if someone wanted to meet me at the hotel with a replacement vehicle I'd be more than happy to exchange the car, but I did not want to be charged a tow fee. I reiterated that last part multiple times. Rachel then put me on hold, and when she returned she asked for my phone number and explained that someone would be in touch shortly to bring me a replacement vehicle. About 30 minutes later I received a call from Richard in Florida, who tells me that someone from service would be at my hotel in about 2 to 2.5 hours. Because it's now 7:30 PM at that point, I explain to him that that timeframe would not work for me because I would be in bed. He then tells me that he will go ahead and cancel the tow truck and i could call in the morning to reschedule one. I then explain to him that I never requested a tow truck in the first place, to which he replies that I did. I explain that the previous person I spoke to agreed to send me a replacement vehicle, not a tow truck. Richard replies that he was standing next to Rachel when I requested the tow truck. I want to be abundantly clear that I did not request a tow truck. Not once did I request a tow truck. The fact that a Sixt employee is making false accusations is unprofessional. I explain to Richard that the vehicle drives fine, but that I do not want to drive it to the airport for an exchange, nor do I want to pay for a tow. Richard then tells me that because the vehicle is leaking oil, I must have somehow damaged it and I would be charged accordingly. At this statement I was extremely shocked. When I initially called Sixt to report the vehicle was leaking oil, I did it because it was the right thing to do. I know how much damage can occur to a vehicle if it's driven without oil. So I called with the hopes that Sixt would do the right thing in return and bring me a replacement for the faulty vehicle. Instead, Sixt's employee accuses me of damaging the vehicle and essentially extorting me, saying that I will be charged unless I waste my time returning the vehicle to the airport. So, under duress, I interrupted my trip and drove the vehicle back for an exchange. The manager at the Phoenix airport, Cora, was incredibly polite, and she got me in a replacement vehicle. She informed me, however, that according to her notes, someone had noted that I requested a tow truck. Again, I never requested a tow, and the fact that one of Sixt's employees entered false information is incredibly unsettling and bordering on illegal. The replacement vehicle (which is a Kia, still not a 4Runner) is due back on 8/25. I plan to return it on that date and pay the original contract price for the rental. After that, I will not be renting from Sixt again, and I will be sure to tell everyone I know that if they want to pay money to be treated like a criminal, they should definitely rent from Sixt. I'm used to getting treated poorly by companies, but this is the first time I've felt genuinely extorted by one. I would suggest everyone steer clear of this company. read more

My first and last time renting from Sixt. The initial experience was fine. I flew into Phoenix airport, picked up the car, drove to ONE meeting, filled up what little was needed on the tank, and returned the car. Then the surprises began! My initial contract was $108. Then I got an adjusted bill for $151 as they charged me for fuel in a car that was full (and barely driven.) Then, a WEEK later, I get a damage report, claiming there was windshield damage. I denied this vehemently and also questioned why they were just letting me know about this now. (How many had driven the car since me?) They did not care and told me I was responsible. So I filed a claim with my insurance company. They paid for the window replacement ($564), but that wasn't enough for them! They proceeded to bill me personally for additional fees like 'loss of use' and 'administrative fees' adding up to another $225. I paid it as they were threatening to send it to collections and they did not care about my complaints to that point. So...a rental to attend one meeting on one day cost me nearly $1000!!! I ordered a medium size car (their website said equal to a Chrysler 200) but they only had Toyota Corollas which they classified as the same thing. A Toyota Corolla is a small car, which the 200 is more of a medium size car. This company has a vague and odd definition of their classification of cars. They said that they don't carry Chrysler 200s yet, maybe in the future. I won't use this company again since you never know what you'll get. I rented a car to pick up at PHX Sky Harbor weeks in advance and had paid the full amount due. I also denied their insurance and what not for I had my own coverage. When I got there with my mom (her 60th bday) and I'm fairly young (28) to pick the car up (2023 Camaro) the guy at the desk confirmed my reservation then asked for a credit card. I was confused as I paid the full amount due already. He stated that it was for a "deposit" incase of damage or that the car was not returned with a full tank of fuel. Which I thought okay that's reasonable enough. Everything was fine and dandy an we had our wonderful trip returned the car no issues. Till the credit card bill came in. There was all sorts of extra "charges" so after investigating this apparently you have to deny the insurance for your "insurance "Even tho you denied the "normal insurance" they have all these others you have to deny to that I never experienced at any other rental company (I feel like he snuck these in cause I was young renting the performance package sports car with the big motor) but he lied to my face about the "damage deposit" he took from me at the counter it was not a damage deposit it was the fucking charge for the extra insurance he put on my car. And when I called an asked about this "damage waiver" charge an told them that I denied their insurance but charged anyways they tell me ya you denied the insurance but you added extra damage insurance..... how does that even make any sense . I rented a vehicle from Sixt, and chose this company because it was rated quite well, in comparison to the others, from PHX airport. My family decided that we should drive up to Sedona for a day, which we did, and I had already reserved a vehicle online. Rate was fine, however when I walked up to the counter, they only had SUVs available. I was offered a Chevrolet Equinox but I refused it because I don't get a good feeling with poorly rated vehicles. I know my car facts quite well, and it just didn't suit me right. So I opted for the Toyota Highlander, for $30 upgrade. Process went smooth, but one thing that threw me off was that there was no agent to do the usual walk-around, which I sort of expected. Vehicles were all parked in the lower garage. When I initially asked for a sedan, the agent said there were none, and in fact, there were none left! The choices from what I saw that were available were either the Equinox, a few Mercedes SUVs, a GMC Yukon, and a minivan. The vehicle I rented had low miles, and for the most part, it was clean and free of scratches and or damages. Returning the vehicle was easy--just a quick drop off at the return area, and although many yelpers say there was a long wait for the shuttle, on a Thursday evening, we got on quickly, without wait, to Terminal 4. Since I had issues with my credit card, I used a debit card. Wasn't a problem. Just showed them my return flight proof, and they charged the $200 deposit ahead of time. The funds were released three business days (excluding weekend & the holiday) after the return. Since their service was better than others, and rates were quite low, I'll consider using them again. I already finished the reservation and prepaid the bill on SIXT official website, when I arrived SIXT counter on schedule, I found there's a $100USD "PREPAID difference", when I asked why there's such big difference, SIXT staff can't answer despite he lowed down the amount to $65.75, and suggested me to talk to customer service. When I sent a mailed to SIXT customer service, they took off the extra cost PREPAID difference $65.75 USD immediately, but when I asked the reason for PREPAID DIFFERENCE on my case, they can't answer, or they don't want to answer properly. Phoenix, AZ Luxury rental but not luxury treatment. The company attempted to charge me for an upgrade after my luxury rental "wasn't available". I promptly contacted them for a refund on the upcharge. Interestingly enough, after I requested the refund, I received an email stating there was a crack in the windshield that wasn't there prior to my rental. FYI: There isn't an agent that walks around the car with you prior to receiving the vehicle. I called the company (again!) and was told this is their policy and has been for 100 years. No kidding, she said 100 years. So, in 1917, I imagine there were unhappy customers as well. I've contacted Expedia, Visa, and my insurance company to warn them about Sixt. To save your sanity and money, use one of the better known rental companies who have excellent customer service. read more

First time and my last time! I took a chance on this company per Booking.com recommendation. All was well until I returned the vehicle. I am aware (as most of us are) that there will be additional sums of money (e.g., deposits) held at the initial car rental. I originally reserved an SUV rental on my AMEX. Now, upon returning the vehicle, I wanted to settle my balance owed to Sixt with a DIFFERENT form of payment. I chose my debit card. I was informed by the agent that the $200 security hold would still remain for 5 to 10 business days. That was unacceptable to me, so I asked for what purpose? I am simply trying to pay what I owe, nothing more. She stated, company policy. Then she noted, "oh, you're a Florida resident and it's policy that Florida residents settle in credit only." Are you kidding me? I consider it poor business practice that because I am a Florida resident, my payment options are limited to ONLY credit card. I've rented cars before and settled the balance owed with different forms of payment. Shouldn't I have the autonomy to choose if I want to pay using my AMEX, or my Visa credit, or my Visa debit? Furthermore, if this is policy, it NEEDS to be communicated at the initial rental, CLEARLY. I will now monitor my bank account via online, to make certain that the $200 hold indeed is released within the 5 to 10 business day time frame. This is exactly how I want to spend the next 5 to 10 days business days of my life? Hardly....but I have no choice. Good value and extremely easy and quick check-in. They had the car we requested. However, there was no one to go over the car with us, or to meter the gas to show us it was full. You simply go to the designated space and drive away. They also just ask if you want to return the car full or empty. We said full. On return, someone goes over the car and meters the gas. Upon metering, they said we were down 3gallons and charged us $27-$9/gallon! You can only drive 5 miles after fill up. Other than that, excellent. read more

Myself and others from my organization were forced to cancel our upcoming trip because we are banned from traveling by the governor of our state. Every other travel related company we dealt with including airline, hotel etc.. have been great and understanding. This company refuses to refund the full amount for our prepaid reservation. I will never rent from them again and neither will my employees. Their policy was simply unacceptable. The small savings you MIGHT get from making a reservation from this company is not worth the risk. Wouldn't allow my boyfriend to use a debit card so I offered to pay with a credit card then they charged me to have two drivers even though I wouldn't be driving the car. Then told my boyfriend because he license was "damaged" that he couldn't be on the car as a driver. Even though we have no problem with his license anywhere else including travel. I rented a luxury class SUV (Mercedes GLS or similar, according to their company). I needed it due to amount of luggage in my group, my back issues not being able to get in a lower car, and desire to drive luxury, full size SUV. I called ahead and was told it would be available. When I arrived, they had no SUVs so put me in a Volvo station wagon which was very cramped and very low to the ground. It was that or a Toyota Camry. They said call back the next day for what I ordered, which I did. No luck. The following day they said call back, which I did, and they informed me they would contact me when a Toyota SUV came back in a day or two (I'm 3 days into my 6 day rental). Received no call from them. To be fair, the people at the counter tried to be extremely accommodating and were AMAZING. They were just stalled by the Branch Manager. I was then told by her I would be charged full amount of a luxury SUV because I signed the agreement when I took the car (station wagon or Camry). This very nasty note from branch manager from the Phoenix SIXT was the breaking point. I was not paying the price of a Mercedes luxury SUV for a station wagon. 6 months ago SixT Phoenix location a glowing review on Yelp and Google. The staff were helpful and courteous and I was very impressed. What a difference 6 months has made. Scott at the kiosk was more interested in trying to scare me into upgrading my coverage than he was in getting me on my way. When that didn't work he insisted on knowing who my insurance company was even after I explained that my credit card coverage was more than adequate to cover any problems. Then he tried to scare me into taking coverage against a tire going flat, telling me that if the tire went flat for any reason "it was my problem, not SixT's". Then, to top it off, he forgot to give me my driver's license back so I had to make a 1 hour round trip the next day to pick it up. Funny that... if you rent me a car with a faulty tire it's my problem, but if you forget to give me back my license... it's also my problem. Today i have made a reservation at sixt for the very first time and was a very unpleasant experience. I applied online a week earlier an had prepared my trip for this weekend. When i go to pick up my vehicle they said they only take credit cards but when i applied i use a debit card there was no requirements about how to pay when picking up the vehicle. My thing here is why didnt this was mention before hand. I drove about 50 minutes away asked for days off for this small mistake that could been avioded. I tried getting another vehicle from another agency but as you know typically have to reserve a vehicle on time. Talk about a tale of two rentals with this company. My first rental with Sixt was fantastic, I declined everything, returned the car in perfect condition and was able to get in and get out with exactly what I purchased. Because it was necessary for me to book another rental I figured why change companies, Sixt was a fantastic company to deal with. Boy was I wrong. After prepaying for a 3 day rental @ $237 (gotta love spring training upcharges) I arrived at the Sky Harbor Sixt branch to see what mystery car I would be assigned. At the desk, agent Adriana D informed me that they would be giving me a Lincoln MKC but because they were low on cars, they would rent me a Range Rover for a total price of $360. I confirmed no less than 3 different times that the total price would be $360, and figured I would proceed. After being asked to put a $2,500 dollar deposit on the vehicle (whoosh this is absurd), I got the keys and Drove off. After returning the vehicle I was disgusted to find out that Adriana D had lied and misrepresented the upgrade and she in fact fleeced me into a rental that was $713 for 3 days, $238 a day. Never once did she explain this absurd upcharge nor did she print out an invoice that clearly explained what I was paying for when I was at the desk signing. Customer Service refuses to amend the situation and no one at Sixt cares to assist me in getting this situation amended. Apparently its normal for people to book cars that are 3x their original booking price? But this disgusting bait and switch is nothing more than fraud and I am beyond disappointed in Sixt as a company but even more in agent Adriana D. Disgusting and snakelike upsell on a customer who was merely renting because their personal vehicle was being repaired from an accident. AVOID THIS COMPANY LIKE A PLAGUE AND DO NOT WORK WITH ADRIANA! **Update: Sixt Corporate basically says Oh well you signed the agreement, you rightfully owe us $475.40. Absolutely blown away how money first this company is and how fraudulent these workers are to scam you into thinking a price and then billing another. Watch out for the hidden charges they'll ask if you want an extra driver but not tell you that it's an additional $14 a day. They'll charge you a whole extra day if you're a couple hours late and they charged me for gas when I filled it up on the way. If I were you I go with Enterprise. read more

Before Covid-19 hit, I'd rented a car with a prepay. I duly noted the no refund with prepay. Since this was a once in a lifetime trip to ride the mikes down the Grand Canyon; I wasn't concerned. This was Dec 2019. In March 2020, everything closed down. Our trip was canceled by the US govt. we did try to get in for next year, but no luck. So, I requested a refund due to the extraordinary circumstances. What do I get, no refund. Instead, I'm offered a voucher for another rental. I explain that this was a special trip & their will be no future trip. I again ask for a refund. Again, they say no. Instead, they'll give a 2 year voucher. I said that won't work since there will be no future trip. I again ask for a refund. Their response? Nothing. So, I'm warning everyone to use anyone else. Had I used anyone else, a refund would already been done. Please note, I wasn't even asking for a full refund. So, Sixt has decided that a pandemic that closed everything down is not a reason to be understanding. They have "stolen" my entire amount with a voucher that I can never use. Needless to say, I think you should use anyone else. While stolen is not exactly what happened, it is what I feel they did. If I could give them negative stars, I would. They are in it for the money. They don't care that you were canceled by a pandemic. They don't care that I happen to be in that at-risk group. They don't care that travel is not something I do. It's been a few years since I traveled. When I was a bit younger & healthier. Now, all I can do is hope no one rents from them without being aware that the amount is the important thing to them. read more

One start is too nice! I went the 23rd of June to rent a car only to find out that I couldn't without a credit card, ok fine. I was then told I would be refunded my money 3-7 days. Well, 9 days later called to see what the hold up was because I had not received the refund and was told by the customer service they just released the money on the 1st and it would take 3-7 days! Terrible experience. The only positive thing I have to say about it is that the vehicle drove well and fit our needs. The customer service was horrible. The main desk associate was rude and treated us as if we were going to steal the vehicle. The downstairs associate wasn't even at her post when we got there, despite the upstairs person having called down about the vehicle we were to be assigned. We waited 15 minutes for her to return, then another 20 for the car. When we asked her to walk 40 feet over to the car with us, so she could record any damage we observed (and save us a minute or two, since we'd already been there for nearly an hour) she refused. Another associate ended up doing it and I took my own photos of existing body damage to be sure we had documentation. We had no credit/debit card issues and no issues with expecting one make of vehicle and receiving another. We needed a particular size and that's what we got, so I cannot speak to these areas where other reviewers seem to have had trouble. I called the agency three times before I was able to speak with the manager, who was nice enough, but gave no answers as to why it took so long to produce the vehicle we had reserved or where her staff might have been for so long. She offered a voucher for our trouble, but I'll have to think long and hard about whether we'll ever use it, as we didn't choose Sixt to begin with. One bright spot I will mention - the gentleman who checked in our vehicle when we returned was very pleasant and seemed to be on top of things. I wish that made up for the rest. We have had good luck with Hotwire purchases in the past, because we have always been with one of the main three car rental agencies. I thought I would try out sixt car rental when we went to Arizona, BIG MISTAKE. I booked a car online and prepaid for it. When I arrived at the desk the woman was awful. First she kept sniffling and wiping her nose as she was talking to me. She tried to upsell me and then tried to sell me the insurance. When I stated I was all set she proceeded to tell me if I had one scratch or minor dent I would pay for the rental until it was back from the shop....even a minor ding. To top it off she ran my card for $200 deposit WITHOUT telling me first. This is illegal and I will be looking into this further. Had a bad experience with this company. I was mischarged multiple times for a rental car I had for 38 days. I rented the car because I was working out of town. I pod for the first month up front and then the second month up front when it was time. I returned the car early cause I didn't need it anymore and they said I'd be reimbursed for the difference since I didn't keep the car the full second month. Instead of reimbursing me, I was charged for the days of the second month I had the car even though I paid upfront for that entire month!!! I tried calling customer service and I was sent to an automatic reply line saying that they aren't taking calls right now and to email the customer service email address. I did this. Got a reply three days later and they said they were refunding me the incorrect amount... now I'm emailing back and forth with someone who replies every 2-3 days trying to sort this issue out. I took advantage of their prepaid luxury car deal - got a Mercedes for $22/day out of Sky Harbor - cheaper than the little cars! Sky Harbor rental rates are insane, so $22/day is an excellent deal and to get a Mercedes? Woo hoo! I was a little nervous because of the negative reviews, but I thought I'd take a chance. The rental experience was great.. until I got the invoice. I was overcharged! I rented a car for 2 days, returned it in 1.5 days and was charged for 3 days. There is no one answering at the call center- only a recording that says "due to COVID, please email customer service" (I'm paraphrasing). Of course there is no reply to the email. I have disputed the charge with my credit company and I will WALK before I use this rental car company again. read more

We booked a Mercedes on line, when we arrived they said they did not have any and we weren't guaranteed a Mercedes. They tried to swap us out to a Volvo and said we should have read the description. The description said Mercedes. Employees Aja and Jake acted like this is just too bad we only have 2 Mercedes. I was in Phoenix for business and rented a car from Sixt through Priceline with no issues. Due to Sixt's policy of 28 days being the maximum amount of time to have one of their vehicles and the length of my trip, I made another reservation and swapped vehicles. My work in Phoenix ended earlier than anticipated, so I went online and modified my reservation from 20 days to 7 days so I wouldn't incur an early return fee (which they claim is $10). Upon returning home, I received an invoice via email. Sixt charged me for the full 20 days instead of the 7 days I actually had the car. I called customer service, who told me it is Sixt's policy to not refund any prepaid reservation, which is stated nowhere in the rental contract. I asked to speak to a supervisor, but none was available. I called customer service again, and asked to be patched through to the Phoenix International location and was told that was not possible. I then stated my issue and was promptly hung up on. After being charged over 600 dollars for 13 days of which Sixt's vehicle had already been returned to them, I will never rent through them again or recommend Sixt to anyone. After reading other similar reviews, I regret ever renting through Sixt. read more

I have trouble understanding the negative reviews. I have rented from Sixt several times in the last 5 years at Sky Harbor airport in Phoenix. Every time I have received an excellent car at a competitive price. Never a bad experience. Last week they could not find the key to the car I was assigned and upgraded me to a BMW convertible that I absolutely loved. Some advice to keep the costs down: 1. Use a credit card that provides rental insurance. Then decline additional insurance when asked. Between your own car insurance and the credit card insurance, you should be fine. 2. If possible only have one person in your party drive. Multiple drivers is expensive. 3. Use your own navigation system, e.g. Your iPhone or bring your own. Using theirs or upgrading to a car with factory navigation costs $. To summarize, I believe sixt offers great value if you use the suggestions above. read more

So apparently they really don't care about their people. I thought by SIXT reaching out immediately on yelp they may actually try to rectify the situation. I emailed them back immediately after crystal commented. It's been 7 days and I have heard NOTHING back, it's a scam, DONT rent for them unless you want to be charged more than double what you thought it would be. read more

I booked a rental through Priceline. The only benefit to using Sixt was the low cost. When something went wrong, the customer service was terrible. I'm retrospect, I wish I had spent a little bit more for some better peace of mind. I would not recommend. read more
