So I have rented with sixth in the past at their Florida ( Fort Lauderdale)location and had a HORRIBLE experience but I have rented at this location twice now and have had such good experiences I wanted to yelp! Both times we got the exact car we were quoted to get and it was always ready when we got there! The gals at the counter have been friendly, upfront, and don't try to up-charge you for unnecessary things that other locations have! I would gladly rent from this location again and appreciate this location after renting with them at other location! The cars are brand new, clean, and drive great! read more

Not sure that this deserves even a 1 star. Unfortunately my wallet was stolen shortly before the trip. I did not have plastic cards on me but I did have the same cards in my digital wallet. After paying in full for an online reservation long before the trip, it turns out Sixt needs a physical major credit card for deposit. Apple Pay or any other major credit cards from a digital wallet are not accepted. So payment for reservation is accepted via digital card/online but deposit in premises to pick up a car does not? Any suggestion made by me were turned away. So much for customer satisfaction. My whole trip was absolutely ruined by "robots" who says theres a policy and that there's nothing they can do. Never again will I use this company. I will overpay, but go somewhere else for car rental needs. Sixt - you just lost a customer. first and last time user here. I booked with Sixt for my recent trip to Phoenix because they happened to be just a bit cheaper than my usual. When I arrived I took the shuttle over to the rental car facility (hats off to Phoenix Sky Harbor for the facially), and eagerly made my way to the counter. I was greeted immediately. First impression, this is great. I pulled out my drivers license and credit card for the gentleman at the counter. He immediately noticed my military ID and as he told me what car I had he said "we have an upgrade...". I've heard these words a thousands times and it's always been followed by free of charge or at only a few dollars more a day. I wait in anticipation as the words fall in my ears only to hear for an additional $60 a day. $60! Damn dude hit me with the let's turn your rental into a mortgage upgrade. I of course immediately declined, my heart broken that he even assumed this was a deal I'd jump at. My next heartburn came when he told me that they were going to put a $200 hold on my credit card. Really! I've never had this happen. Had I not prepaid I would have walked away then and headed to my old friend enterprise. I received my little booklet and claim ticket for my keys and journeyed down to where one acquires the keys to those temporary chariot. I was greeted by the representative and handed her my paper. To say she had the personality of a rock would be an understatement. I then took my keys and headed to the car. I found myself in the most basic of rental cars. Possibly the most stripped down version that Volkswagen offers. It smelled new and was clean so that was a plus. I was overly thrilled to find that the vehicle was equipped with Apple car play, thus making it very easy for me to use google maps as I traveled through a new city. Imagine my disappointment to find that the car did not use standard USB ports. I mean what kind of rental car company purchases cars that require a non standard USB port. I quickly removed my phone mount from my bag and left the airport, disappointed in the the knowledge that o had chosen my rental car company poorly. The bottom line is I will stick with other fine American companies such as budget and enterprise. Thank you sixt for letting me down. THEY screwed up my anniversary weekend, and then offered me a "one-time" upgrade for my troubles.... you guys have no idea what a nightnare my rental was. They held $1000 on my card for a full week without prior notification or authorization. The policy clearly states $250 or three times the rental, which in my case should not have exceeded $540. I Would like a full refund for the inconvenience, I was unable to attain a hotel room as a result of the hold, forced to sit upright in the lobby the entire night waiting for my plane to leave las vegas. I am mortified by the way you are attempting to pacify me with an upgrade, which is the same exact thing that got me into this mess. Try again, and I will be updating yelp and my social media followers on your bogus attempt to appease me, and it WILL NOT SUFFICE. Horrible horrible company, I wish I could give 0 star. Please avoid to rent with them if you could. I booked the rental car through hotwire and already prepaid for everything. When I check my bank account, Sixt charged me another $428 for the protection fee and deposit. They said I have to pay for $198 protection package and will only get back the difference for the deposit. They never informed me about all those fee, when I called the same day that I picked up the car, someone on the phone said she will take care of it and submit the ticket to remove the fee, but she lied. When I return my car, they said since I didn't call the same day and no ticket was submitted, I'll have to pay for the fee. They are just a whole bunch of liars and so horrible. read more

Upon returning my vehicle during working hours there was only one person there to check in cars. He told me he had lots of cars to check in before mine and advised me leave without having a joint check in process. Once I arrived at the airport I received a return receipt email that showed the fuel tank was not full and was charged an additional $60.66 however I had re-fueled the vehicle in full prior to my arrival less than 2 miles from the Sixt facility and had receipt proof from my credit card company. I immediately emailed Sixt customer service because you CANNOT reach anyone by phone right now per their toll free number. They emailed me back stating " At Sixt customer satisfaction is our ultimate goal. Our records indicate we have refueled your rental vehicle with 5 gallons upon return, please see pictures attached." However, the picture they attached clearly showed that the vehicle was full upon check in. I then had to email them back to state my case and describe exactly where the fuel gauge was located on the picture and describe how it did show as FULL. They did email me back within 24 hours stating after further investigation they realized that they were wrong and would refund me the fueling charge and this refund did occur. After stating that customer satisfaction is our ultimate goal that is clearly not the case for Sixt. This situation could have been cleared up very quickly if you could speak to someone directly instead of having to email them which took 3-4 days to resolve in my case. In addition, if someone had truly investigated this claim initially when I immediately emailed them about the discepancy then they would have looked closely at the picture and said: she's right, the tank is showing as full. But instead I was made to feel as though I was about to be screwed and could not talk with anyone about the facts. Lastly, all they did was apologize and refund the charge. They did not offer up any concessions nor a percentage off my next rental which would have been the correct thing to do if customer service was truly their ultimate goal. I have rented from Sixt in the past and have always had a good experience so I was surprised at the lack of customer service in the end when they realized that they were actually in the wrong. This is the first review I have written regarding a company after a poor experience and that is usually because most companies will bend over backwards for someone that is not pleased with their service especially when they realize they messed up but this did not happen with Sixt. The car we rented was clean and nicely appointed. The customer service agent at the Phoenix Airport was professional and we got into our car quickly. They are clearly understaffed upon return check in as there was 10-12 vehicles ahead of me and none of those vehicles had people inside waiting which is why I decided to leave the vehicle without a joint check in...I will not do this again in the future and insist they come check me in when I arrive. read more

I wish there was a way to rate this with 0 stars. This company is beyond the worst rental company! They tell you one price for a refund and refund something different . They can't get you a replacement car in the class you were previous in and charge you a early return fee! Then they tell you one shop is open until a certain time and it's not so you have to drive 30-45 minutes to another place to return. I filled up the to return to the place they said to return to, but then was charged because I refused to refill up for there mistake. I asked for someone one to call me so they can hear all that they put me through. I have not received a phone call or email about this. Issue has been going on for 1 month and counting. Made a reservation for a Mercedes $37.35 / day, ($219.63 total) but only had a debit card. "Mr. Gonzalez" offered a Toyota Camry and would change rate for final bill. Invoice showed I was charged the same daily rate for the Mercedes with a "10% discount" for a total of $217.27. Good luck trying to get a hold of them directly, the phone will just disconnect and manager will not return calls which customer service said they would have him do. The general customer service is no help either, they offered to discount the daily rate and take off the previous 10% discount and would send me an invoice (which get this), totaled $224.67. ******Please avoid SIXT at all costs!!!!!**** They have many hidden fees after the fact. They put a $501.00 hold on my credit card. Then after I turned in my car they put another $501.00 hold on it. It took me 21/2 to navigate through their phone system only to be told they cant do anything for 3 or 4 days until after the holds drop off. Also, when I brought my C300 in for return, I looked at my bill and I was going to get charged over 125.00 more than what I rented it for via Experian. When I went to the counter at the Dallas DFW airport. The staff was completely ambivalent nor cared to hear my concerns. Begrudgingly, reduced my ticket to the correct amount. Hello, I need a full refund for my recent request for a rental. I got to the SIXT pick up station for the rental, and was told I was unable to get the car because I didn't have the right card. He said I needed a MAJOR credit card. I told him I purchased the rental with my debit card, why would it let me buy with my debit card if you guys require a credit card??? Why would your company let my purchase go through, if it didn't even get purchase on the correct type of card.??This company is a rip off and it feels like a scam. This was unfair to my family, we had a whole vacation planned out. When I purchased the rental I had no complications they let me rent a car it let me choose the car and let me purchase the car with my DEBIT card. I need a full refund it's not just my money that was put into this rental. This is unfair and very disrespectful to people who are just trying to rent a car for their families to go on a nice ass trip. The whole thing got canceled because we couldn't even get the rental. Absolutely the worst customer service I have ever received in trying to rent a car. I would never recommend this company. I made a reservation and then called multiple times to see if a specific car was available to save myself the drive. Every time I called the number it transferred me to the call center where the people had terrible customer service and kept disconnecting the call. Then when I found the car I was looking for and was told they could place it on hold I got to the location to have them tell me they hadn't had that car in weeks. One of the best experiences I've ever had with a rental car company. I recently rented a vehicle in an ECAR group for 5 days from 9/26 to 9/30. I got a 4-door Chevrolet Malibu with only 777 miles on it. It still had the new car smell, and came with a built-in navigation system that I badly needed. Everyone I communitcated with was very helpful. There was no issue at all with check-in and out. I would definitely rent a car from Sixt again. read more

Do not rent from here or Sixt in general. They will over charge you for their cars and then start making up excuses why you got charged that price. I originally paid through expedia for a rental car for a trip, they charged me full price for it not acknowledging my expedia reservation. After I returned the car and try to dispute the charges and get them to apply what I paid through expedia they are giving me the run around and now trying to say I returned the car late and make up other excuses. Stay away from this place, even though they are the only place with nice cars like Mercedes and BMW's that won't way over charge you for it like another rental company there at the airport, the headache you will get from dealing with their stupid customer service reps is not worth it. read more

During this Covid-19 crisis, most companies in the travel business are trying to retain future business by giving you a refund or a least a credit for future travel when you have to change your plans due to the pandemic. Not good ole SIXT. They abide solely by their contract language: 3 days of rental charges as a cancelation fee! They won't even give you a credit voucher for future use. STAY AWAY! I rented here when I was in town for a week of golf with my father because it was the best deal. We got a Yukon XL so we could fit our clubs and baggage without any problems. The check-in process was smooth and quick. The car was very nice as well. The car was always parked in far spots or spots without any other vehicles around it specifically to avoid any potential damage (maybe you see where this is going). I returned the vehicle around noon on Friday. The return queue was pretty busy but we didn't mind waiting because we had 3 hours until our flight boarded, we had already checked-in and both of us have TSA pre-check so getting through security is pretty fast. So we go our bags out and waited for the employee doing the returns to check us in (I think his name was Gerry?). It took about 5 minutes or so before he came over to us. I handed him the key and asked him "Do you need anything else from me?" He took a quick look at the car and said "Nah you guys are good to go, you'll get an e-mail with the receipt". I got said receipt before our flight even took off and the amount on it was what I was told I would pay when I checked-in. Awesome, what a great experience! Great price for the vehicle and quick service! But then.... The next Monday I get an e-mail from their claims department that they are charging me for damage to the vehicle. And not just small amounts of damage but significant damage to the rear pillar (the upper part by the tailgate) as well as several scratches and dents?! Of course I didn't take pictures of the vehicle (which I now regret) but we babied that car and made sure to park it where scratches and dents were not going to happen, much less the damage to the rear pillar they claimed happened. So I called the claims department and had a conversation about the damage and holy crap are those people rude. Apparently they had "notes" that I was too busy to stay for the check-in and sign the paperwork (which is absolute lie -- remember I specifically asked the employee if they needed anything from me before we left? And we had 3 hours before our flight boarded). When I explained the situation I was then told something like "Well we aren't Dick Tracy's investigation service". The message was basically "go F yourself we aren't going to actually look into any of what you just said". So now I'm stuck pay $1100 for damage that I am 100% certain I did not cause but because I cannot prove it with pictures of my own, I'm up a creek. So okay I just want to move beyond this. I called their claims department to give them my card information. The woman on the phone says sorry we can't take credit card information over the phone and there is no way to pay online. What is this the 90's? So I have to print the form, fill it out, and either fax it or scan an e-mail it. So I scan an e-mail it and I hear nothing. 2 weeks later I follow up asking if they got it. Again I hear nothing. A month after the payment was due I get an e-mail saying that they never got my payment information and I need to submit it immediately. So I called and the man on the phone said "oh let me check our inbox" and was able to find it in less than a minute. So I guess they don't check their inbox? Apparently the claims department isn't the same as the claims processing department? And they apparently don't communicate all that well internally? I don't know who is running this place but they need some serious work. Everything about this place is second-rate (except the cars which are higher end but don't be fooled by the good rates, as you can read they make up for it with random changes and damage claims). I don't particularly like being accused of things and I really don't like being lied to (especially about something I did or didn't do). This company has shady people working for them that are clearly willing to lie to cover their own behinds and who aren't willing to actually get off their behind and investigate on behalf of the customer. I was pleasantly surprised with my first experience with Sixt. I had booked a car with Dollar, but all they had was a tiny bottom of the line vehicle. I walked across the aisle, told the agent I wanted a midsize like a Camry for about $25 a day. He found me a car. The only glitch is that the "check engine" light was on so it delayed me leaving while I made sure there was nothing wrong with the car. Apparently it had been serviced but the light had not been re-set. The car was very nice, only 12k miles. Minor dent on front bumper. The agents I dealt with were very helpful and friendly. Sixt rental car If you are US tourist in europe (paris), be cautious about the policy of this company.. At end of the trip which was Highway only, they made a rigorous inspection to find 1 tiny 1 cm scratch and mark on hubcap.. The agent at rental desk at airport, without letting me know damage report, made me sign a car return form.. Only after I had gone I received email on damages. Such fraudulent practices, where they make you sign showing last page on e-sign should be addressed by this rental company. .As Avis preferred, and 20 years of renting with Hertz, budget, thrift, I have never seen such practices.. Also for charges it is 80 euro damage and 100 euro admin fees.. I have tried to reach customer service, but was not able to.. Hoping others who have faced similar harassment from this company use this forum so it will help future tourists. read more

I emailed (only way to contact them without making an international call) the company and they made the booking but it was over $125 more. Years ago I worked in car rental and I understand when things go wrong but this was over the top. Upon arrival at the rental counter I was promptly greeted by a gentleman who asked me to wait while he logged in. After fifteen minutes of watching him make four key strokes and fix his suit he asked me to the counter. At this point everything in still going okay, then he asked if I would like an upgrade and I respectly declined. His attitude immediately changed and he was very difficult to work with. I used my card to pay and the chip didn't read, so at this point he referred me to "Last Chance" car rental off site. That gentleman was very helpful, but very unprofessional. He did take care of us though ( by the way the chip on the same card worked just fine there) and that went well after the initial start. I will never do business with them again. The standard size that we rented when we got there was a VW Beetle. I wasn't expecting that and when we spoke to the employee at the counter, she wasn't very helpful and gave us a very high quote for an upgrade. She also wasn't very pleasant. We then ran downstairs to go get the car and there was no one at the counter. We waited for a while and the employee from another company with a desk right next to Sixt grabbed the key to give to us. So far, no customer service aside from a not so friendly interaction that lasted a few minutes. No one checked the car on the way out or checked us out at all. When we returned the car, the employee was fine and rushed us out quickly since we were getting close to our flight time. We had to file a claim since a rock hit our windshield while driving on the highway. I had insurance through AMEX and so I let them handle it. The insurance company did a great job of keeping me informed and did their best to keep the process moving. Sixt was not very responsive to their requests and the process took a while. After the payout, there was a balance of $75 left over for an expense that Sixt was not able to justify. They were claiming a rental loss of about $25 and an "administration fee" of $50. The insurance needed proof that there was no other car available at the time the Beetle was being repaired and needed clarification on what the $50 was to ensure it went beyond the normal, which they never got. So Sixt decided to charge me and says that according to the contract I am liable to the outstanding charges. Those charges are arbitrary and would have been covered by the insurance if they had documentation to provide. I'll try another company with less shady and absent business practices next time. read more

I found renting from your company to be the worst experience I've ever had from a car rental company. Unfortunately for me, fortunately for you, I had a prepaid reservation. Otherwise I would have gone anywhere else. I stood in line for almost 20 minutes at skyharbor international airport with only one person in line before me. The other rental counter that shares your space, fox rental, had 4 people servicing their desk. I counted how many more people were waited on before I was "served" at your counter (8). I also did not appreciate your policy of $350 deposit on my credit card without being forewarned. Your return area was just as bad with only ONE return slot which was already filled. Well that sure sucked. I did not get the 4WD car I thought I was renting, and in my angst over that, I drove off without noticing the bill was over $450 more than my on-line quote. Sixt attributed the problems to the fact I had reserved through a third party (carrentals.com) - but that's just a lot of BS; Sixt can and should be held entirely accountable for advertising via third parties. PHX locals be careful - READ WEBSITE Rental Information and contract. Summery of issues: 1. misleading booking information unless you hunt for it on sixt.com. 2. PHX staff seems clueless on the on rules. 3. PHX staff attempts to make it seem that the rules don't apply - even though it's in the contract. 4. Customer service eventually response - but tries to give subtle blame to you and points this out by using the wrong information. Details of issue: In the on-line booking process you have the idea that the rental is unlimited miles - NO MATTER (like any of the reputable car rental companies; hertz, Avis, etc). On their website - on vehicle selection page, to the right of the rate it states "unlimited free miles incld." There is now "limitation" warning on this page. There is no terms and conditions on this page (except at the bottom - general terms that mention nothing about this). When selecting the rate you are taken to the "Rate and Extra" page. Under "Your Rate", it stills mention "Include: Unlimited Miles". Looking all over this page - there is nothing that warns you. No terms and conditions link is visual. However, the obvious place under "Age Restriction", the user has to hover over this section in order for "Rental Information" link to be displayed. Hidden in the "rental information" there is a section title "Cross Border Rentals & Territorial Restrictions" here it does state that "Renters who do not have a return airline boarding pass or round trip airline itinerary may not drive the vehicle outside the state of Arizona." This is also located on the "Personal Information" page at the very bottom under "rental information". The major problem when questioning the staff - they had NO IDEA of this and said "we never charge anyone extra miles." Trying to make it seem like you will be OK - even though their Website and Contract states otherwise. Because I read - in detail - the contract after i had gotten the card, I was still charged for the day. However, after contacting Sixt regarding issues they did refund the money. However they are sure to point out the following "Allow me to take this opportunity to inform you of our policy that can be found in our terms and conditions on-line." WRONG! It's the Rental Information. So for everyone - ensure that you read the "Rental Information" and the Contract closely no matter if you are "local" or "non-local". read more

Service is horrible. Pick-up was just ok, but vehicle was filthy and had trash in it. Attendant was same at pick-up and turn-in. She was dismissive and curt. Was visibly and audibly upset when I made her walk to the car at check-in and physically inspect the car for cleanliness, damage and a full tank. WARNING, YOU GET NO DOCUMENTATION OF ANY KIND AT TURN-IN. They just tell you you will get the final rental bill by email within 24 hrs. NEVER AGAIN WILL I RENT HERE! read more

When I initially made the reservation, I accidentally made it in my name, rather than my husband's name. He was the one that was going to pick up the car and drive it the entire time. When I tried to get a hold of someone at the company to change the reservation, it was extremely difficult. I called the only number that I could find on the website, and it was completely automated with no option to change a reservation, and no option to reach a live person. So I found an email address. I went back and forth over email with a rep for two days. When I got limited response from the email address, I tried messaging on Facebook. Their recommendation was that I send an email. Finally, I was told I could either add him as an additional driver ($25 per day) or cancel, pay the cancellation fee ($163), and rebook. All I needed to do was change the name on the reservation. Finally on the second day of emailing back and forth, I am told to create a brand new reservation with the correct name and they would cancel the original and waive the fees. This they called a gesture of goodwill. I finally manage to rebook my reservation, but the rates have now gone up. So I did end up paying about $15 more for the new reservation. I asked for a refund for that and was told no. Oh well I'll let that slide because at least now we can get on with our lives, right? No. My husband arrived at the airport and the only car available in the class we reserved wouldn't work for us because it was too small. So we were downgraded to a lower class, which should have cost $20 less per day. We were not able to get a refund for that overage. I suppose I could write to customer service again and try to get a refund, but honestly I am not willing to waste any more time with it. Lesson learned, don't rent from Sixt. read more

Let me start by stating that I was a little hesitant to try a different rental car company as I consistently use Hertz when I travel, however like the price offer found through carrentals.com, therefore I decided to give Sixt a try. Upon checking in there was no line, however it took over 20 minutes to get checked in which wasn't that much of an issue as the service rep was friendly. When getting into the vehicle, it was filthy! Bird poop on the windshield, and it looked like it had not been vacuumed in who knows how long. Dashboard was dusty and crumbs on seats. I would have taken the time to say something, but was already running behind so let it slide. BUT, where the service went from mediocre to awful was when we were pulled over due to the vehicle having expired tags!! Embarrassed would be an understatement to say the least. I was shocked that a rental car company would not stay on top of this. Tags expired in 6-14. Needless to say, I will stick with Hertz. Morale of the story, don't try to save a buck. Do not ever rent a car here. They did not offer us roadside assistance to purchase. We got a flat tire after driving 20 min. They refused to get help for us and even if we paid they said it would take 2-4 hours for any assistance to arrive. We were in the middle of no where in 100 degree heat. Worst car rental experience ever! We reserved a BMW convertable a month in advance. When we arrived we had to wait over an hour in line. Then they didnt have the car we reserved, any convertable of any type nor even a luxury auto. The best they could offer was an Impalla...and no discount for the down-grade. The two customers on each side of me at the counter had similar experiences! They bait and switch. They couldnt even give me a refund until the manager returns in three days! We'll see how that goes. And before you think I'm just a spoiled rich douche, we saved our money for this vacation to the grand canyon and the ONE splurg we did was the car. Moderate wait to sign rental agreement - 15 mins wait for car - brought wrong one - employee scribbled something on old contract and I balked when wanted contract with correct car and mileage - not something a 6th grader can scribble down - wait is now over 20 mins for correct contract with correct car. Recordkeeping and promptness fail - maybe a little too early to come over from Europe and try the USA on for size. ========== In the end it was 27 minutes from when they said I should wait a few minutes for them to bring my car over to when I got a vehicle with the correct contract ready to drive off. Sixt ist schrecklich ========== Return the next day - this company is cartoony. Pull into the Sixt aisle which is included with Fox, Payless, and some other low-rent company. Sixt has 4 spots with their name on it - one buy the counter and three in the next zip code. All 4 are full so I pull into an unmarked one near the 3 in the next county and walk to the counter. Hand over my key and contract and the desk lady (well girl really - not old enough to be a lady) asked where the car was and I gave her cross country instructions to the location - she rolled her eyes and gave me the pissed off look and I commented that if they wanted us to park close to the counter, even if in another company's spot, they should make that clear with signage - none of which was present. So she huffed and puffed to my car to get mileage and make sure a bird didn't crap on the car so they could charge me $10,000 in damage. Came back and said I am good to go. I asked for a receipt and she said they don't give them out - they would email it OR if I really wanted one I could go to the counter inside, wait in line, and get one. No SPANKY you. The whole experience left me hearing the Looney Toons in my head. Car itself was fine - Sonata with low miles. Next time when asked Sixt? I will reply NEIN! Is that kind of 6ty-9ty? Rented an SUV from this place and got a station wagon!! Told them if I wanted to look like a soccer mom I would have brought my kids. Had to wait over 30 mins for the car to 'be ready' and then they bring me a wagon. At that point I asked for a downgrade to a sedan and they refused...said they didn't have any available. No apologies nothing!! The only reason I gave them one star, other than I had to, is for the speedy nice service when I returned the vehicle. read more

There is a reason for the bad reviews - you think you're getting a good price (much better than Avis, Enterprise, etc) and then when all is said and done they jack up the price elsewhere making them no different. I *do not* recall signing up for supplementary insurance, in fact I explicitly turned it down. Later they invoiced me separately for it plus my gas charges. Upon inquiring with customer service they basically said "you signed up and it was a binding agreement." This is not true. I will be disputing this with my CC company. read more

I've rented from Sixt before and had ok experiences. They are slow with their transactions but for the low rates, I didn't complain. This time I needed to rent a car for my dads funeral so I prepaid for the car online. Since it was a Benz I had to pay $500 deposit on top of that. They've changed their policies recently since cars have been returned damage by other customers. Refunds are only by email by the way. I went to Hertz and got my car in 10 minutes. Lesson #4080 stick with Major Brands. Do not let the online low rates fool you. Sixth is not Major the best thing that can happen to Sixt is an acquisition by Hertz. read more

Very bad service and attitude. I rented a car for 10 days for businesses. They charge me a extra day's rate just for my one hour later return. And I called the customer representatives about the issue before I return the car. They said no worries.
