What started as a very pleasant experience took a turn for the worse upon receiving my email bill after returning the vehicle. Very short line at the rental counter while all the others were packed. Very helpful counter person who explained that she was ill and didn't want to get me sick so she was sitting down to keep distance between us. Offered an upgrade to a BMW SUV for $200 extra, I declined. Then offered a Cadillac SUV upgrade for only $75 which I accepted. Here is where it went bad, was asked "Do you want the full coverage or just on the vehicle". I responded that I did not want the coverage (I have never gotten rental insurance as my home and auto policy covers as well as the credit card I use). The rep took this to mean that I wanted the coverage on the vehicle which she then added to the contract for the 5 days at $24.99/day. I signed an electronic pad which didn't show anything other than where to sign and the rep folded up a long printout, shoved it in a booklet and told me to keep it in the vehicle as it was my registration. I got the keys and headed for the lot to pick up the vehicle. In retrospect, I should have checked the paperwork and would have noticed that my rental went from $465 to $712 due to the insurance that I declined but I've never had something added to my bill before that I didn't request. Received the email receipt upon returning home and immediately called customer service, they said it was my fault for not checking the paperwork before leaving the lot and would not be crediting me for the insurance that I declined but would forward my concern to the Phoenix branch for review. Received a voicemail tonight indicating that I would get a courtesy $50 credit but would not refund the entire overcharge. So, in conclusion, buyer beware and check your paperwork before leaving the counter or you might be charged for something you declined! read more

One star is a lot for this company. This is the worst service I have received ever. First, I made a reservation online and when I was almost done they offered me to fill some forms so I can go directly to pick up the car without going to the main counter to fill the forms there. They gave me a QR code. When I get to the airport I still went to the main counter to ask some questions and I show the employee the confirmation and the QR code. I didn't get what I wanted so I told her "This is a bad company". She said: "Well, we have all our rules on the internet". Fair enough. I go downstairs with my QR code. Right. When I was down there I show the employee the QR code and she said "You need to go upstairs to fill all the forms". You got to be kidding me! Upstairs I go again and I tell the same girl, "so this QR code is not working" (I have a little bit of an attitude now). She said that they need to fill that there. I am like, why do you have this then? She said they don't have that service in almost any location (she has some attitude now too). So, I asked why they offer it in the first place and she is mad at me now, and said she is not the web page. I am like: "Are you serious" So, I tell her I was just here and you didn't tell me. You let me go downstairs. She responded that I say this was stupid and walk away. At this moment I just want to punch her, so I turn to the other employee and said can you help me? This was ridiculous. I now she is not the web page for right now she is representing the company and I am not a happy customer. Once you prepaid over the internet, you can't change drivers. Any additional driver is $10 per day and you can't add another driver just for a few days. They charge you for any cancellation even when you do it in advanced, so they can have the car in the market again. read more

I had picked a car that they were promoting as a special (Volvo wagon) and also had a discount through American Express who they were partnered with. So, of course, when I went to pick up the car, they did everything in their power to make sure I would not be getting this automobile at this price (including saying that my AE card was declined). Not according to American Express. They didn't even show any recent transaction activity. Others in line were unsympathetic since it didn't involve them, but believe me, it wasn't me. I rented a car for about 10 days at the end of December. I chose Sixt because they were the least expensive of the Phoenix airport rental services that had good reviews on yelp. The experience was great. At pickup, there was no wait at the counter. There was little or no attempt to upsell me. The car was practically new and we were driving away within minutes. The return went just as smoothly. The whole experience could not have gone any better. read more

Terrible customer service! I've been in a rental car everyday for over 5 years so I know how other companies operate and this is the worst of all of them. I guess that's what you get when you expect good customer service from a foreign company. I rented a vehicle in Phoenix and the moment I drove off the lot, a rock hit the windshield which I understand I'm obligated to pay for. After my insurance paid over $600 to have the windshield replaced Sixt sent me a personal bill for an additional $114 to pay for an "administration fee." I contacted Sixt and told them I felt this was ridiculous and I also sent three letters to various customer service departments within the company. They cashed my check and I have yet to hear anything back from anyone in that company. I have requested my company take them off of our travel agency options read more

Via Hotwire, we booked and paid for a Standard SIze SUV. Upon arrival there were no SUV's available. Eventually they said they had an SUV (Volvo XC70). Turns out that the Volvo XC70 is a station wagon. (Per Volvo's website this is a "wagon", the XC90 is Volvo's SUV/Crossover). When I tried to call to arrange for a replacement there was no way to reach the branch. Their call center said that I could contact customer service in the AM. They also said there were no supervisors on duty. Hotwire could not be reached as well. We reached the Branch finally and the person on the phone said and XC70 is listed on their website as a standard size SUV and it is. However, a rental car company calling a wagon as a SUV does not make it so. Car rental companies often call something large than it is (eg. an epa rated midsize is often called a full size vehicle) but declaring a car a different class in a blind buy is truly beyond the pale. Stars off for Sixt for including a different class of vehicle in their list of equivalents. Stars off for inability to reach any sort of customer service in a reasonable time frame. Otherwise, Sixt is normally decent in PHX. They (as all others) do have an issue with vehicle availability. When you get your vehicle the cars are very clean and in great condition. Consider NEVER using Hotwire and book direct with the Rental Car agency so you know what you are getting (even though Hotwire is often 1/2 the price of direct booking.) read more

I had reserved a Ford Explorer, however, when Id arrived they didnt have one. Sixt's rep had an "oh well" attitude about it which certainly didnt help. The only SUVs available had smaller cargo areas. The car was ok, but we had really needed the extra room for our trip. I was quite nervous about this rental based on the reviews. I rent cars several times per year (anytime I travel out of town - put the miles on a car that's not mine), so I'm used to the drill. Renting from Sixt was a little different - the process. But, the price was good, the staff were all friendly, the car was fun and new and well equipped, and the transaction was smooth. I can only say good things. I put 1300 miles on the car in four days. It was very comfortable (got the little Mercedes CLA). They checked me back in with no problems - didn't blink at the number of miles I'd logged. One thing that I think renters should know: they do put a $500 hold on your credit card while you have the car. It is released a few days later. I could see this being a problem in some cases - and they don't make a big deal of pointing this out. So, if that coduld be a problem, be informed. Final word: I'll rent from them again, for sure. read more

Counter- no wait, I had everything filled out online prior to my arrival. But the woman behind the counter was almost trying to bully me into taking their insurance coverage. Even after I told her I had two policies that cover rental. The car was ok. Hyundai elantra with 31K but overall good shape. The RETURN: Stopped at gas station less then 3 miles away and topped off the tank. Kept receipt and showed the person checking the car in. Asked for a copy of the return and they said it would be emailed . So to my surprise, I was billed for 2 gallons of gas "refueling". It was topped off so I'm assuming this is a regular trick they play to add cost. When I do this again, I will pay a little more to have a better experience. read more

I was apprehensive about renting from Sixt because there were some negative reviews, but I was able to rent a much nicer car for the same amount of money. After I booked (using rentalcar.com I found my rental would be cheaper booking through their website) I received an email to speed up the check out process. I filled this out. When I arrived at the check-in, I had the key in my hands in three minutes. By Far this is 3 times faster than any other rental company I have ever dealt with. I went down and jumped in my car and drove away. It was great, exactly what I expected. My only suggestion would be to do a very thorough walk around and be sure to point out any issue before you leave the garage. They do a very careful walk around including a full inspection of the windshield. They found a scuff on one of the wheels that I did not note when I picked up my car. He asked me about it and there was no mark on the tire so he did not charge me for it. I do think he would have tried if I did not present a logical case against how it could not be a recent scratch I will probably never rent from anyone else since these guys have such a great price, service, and cars. read more

Typical shady procedure. Don't ever take the pre paid fuel option. No matter how much fuel you return with , be it empty or half full, you will be charged for a full tank of fuel. It isn't explained, at the time of pick up, that the refuel price isn't calculated on what you used.... So now I'm off to drive 250 miles of fuel before I return the vehicle... I'm sure that is good for the vehicle. I guess it's back to FOX rental. They may have been a bit more expensive, but they never tricked me into a hidden cost ...... I rented the vehicle from the Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix while on vacation with my family. The first thing the representative did when I returned the vehicle was walk around it to check for problems. He said there was a rock chip in the windshield and that they kept records of prior damage and he said it wasn't there before. I did not get a rock chip while I was driving, but it was my word against his. It looked like a bug on the windshield until I touched the chip. BEWARE. Check for rock chips and other damage carefully when you pick up the vehicle even if they say you have insurance to cover any minor damage. If you see any damage, go back to the representative and have them document it. I will not rent from Sixt again - this was the first and last time. I have rented cars at least 5 other times from other companies and have never experienced this. read more

I made the reservation on line, $138 total for 3 days, a friend volunteered me his car 15 min after I reserved, Sixt wanted $118 to cancel.... so I kept the reservation. I showed up as scheduled.They printed out the contract, it went up $40. The customer service girl was new, as was everyone, 6th day of operation, she tried for 25 minutes to get it down to my printed reservation price, but could not. The manager was called, he couldn't do anything. The Corporate trainer and launch person was there, She looked at the contract and pointed to some FINE print so small the printer could not even print it legibly on standard paper (needed a magnifying glass to see it wasn't lines) which says it will cost more (I forget their term). She was very snotty and rude with a very German attitude, I know I'm German and have spent a lot of time there. Rented from Avis Europe with NO PROBLEM. An hour later I was still try into get what I was promised, the other rental companies tripled their prices due to a Doctors convention in town so I took the car with a promise that a week later the manager would refund 1/2 the difference to my Credit card..... Never happened. He was nice and understood my frustration, powerless to do anything but sympathetic (doesn't pay my CC bill). They were trying to tell me they upgraded me to a Sonata at no charge, but the Sonata was the ONLY car they had received for rental. It took them a while to get is since they were, all 200, the same. (hint: key fob, horn button) I made sure the car was returned in PERFECT condition, God knows what they would have wanted had it gotten scratched. They sent me a Sixt card in the mail... I am now an "Express member" I use it for scraping frost off the windshield when the scraper is in the other car, I know I'll never use it to rent a SIXT car EVER. read more

I don't travel as much as I used to, but I had always stuck to my usual companies for renting a car. Sixt stuck out since they had way better rates than the others. so I took a chance. It was easy to reserve, easy to pick up, and easy to drop off. The rate was great, the only thing I did not like so much is the fact that I had a Hyundai Santa Fe. I was not crazy about the car, even though it was new and they upgraded for free. The guy behind the counter at the time of pick up was young, but he knew the history of the company and knew how to get me in and out of there quickly. He looked just like Owen Wilson and was funny too! I appreciate a young person who give good customer service. The guy upon return was great too, and he too was a young person. Renting from Sixt was a great experience. I had never heard of Sixt until I was looking for a rental car for a few days in Phoenix. If you ever have rented a car in Phoenix you know it can be very expensive. Normally I go with National because I can choose by own car but this time I went with Sixt because they were over $120.00 cheaper for the same class of car. At first I thought that this was too good to be true but my co-worker told me that Sixt was huge in Europe and that I should be ok. He was more than right. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly and the car was almost brand new. I will make sure I rent from Sixt again whenever I travel. read more

I've used this company all throughout Europe, and every time I fly I to LAX. Really used to love them. I picked up a car at their AZ location. They didn't have the Mercedes I booked and called a Volvo it's equivalent. After inspecting the car, I left the airport. I small crack started up the windshield from underneath the wipers into the black tinted area of the windshield. There's no way I could have seen this during inspection. I let them know and the girl I returned it to informed me that it may be waived due to the nature of it. She agreed it could've been from the previous renter. I called Visa and they said they couldn't start a claim until they had a claim number. Sixt put it into claims investigation and by the time they got my claim number to me, Visa denied it saying it was out of their window of coverage. My personal insurance covered all but my deductible and I was left paying $640. I tried to work it out with third department and got sass from their unprofessional claims lady. Professionalism is NOT cutting people off when they're asking questions and hearing someone out. I travel a lot and the $640 they received from me is a fraction of the money they could've made from my rentals in the future. I will spread the word to all my friends who travel for business as well. Poor ethics and business practice. read more

It's a small budget car rental site and I normally don't have the best experience with small budget car rentals but my experience was amazing. Trent was our helpful car rental agent who was professional and funny and really got my girlfriends and I excited for our trip to Arizona. Both agents at the desk were having great conversations with their customers as well, so we know Trent wasn't the only awesome agent. The car was clean and in great condition. First time using the company. Was initially very apprehensive since it was the lowest priced option. Was AMAZED with their service! No high pressure sales on all the extras, free upgrade for the "inconvenience" of a couple extra minutes of waiting at the counter while they would find a car, super fast and high tech (ipad) car pick up and return! Upon return person inspected car and sent receipt and proof of no damages to my email. Will from now on only rent from Sixt where available. Never in my 40 years have I had such a horrible customer service experience as I did this past week with Sixt at the Phoenix airport. I would have rated them ZERO stars if the system would allow it. If you have time, I invite you to read about the situation that prompted this review, but if not, I implore you to AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!!! -We reserved a car for the last 4 days of our 6-day Arizona vacation (approx. $32/day) -On our 2nd day in town (a Monday), I had my husband call to see if we could pick it up one day early. We were told it would be $300 for the ONE additional day. This was plain and simple price gouging since our entire 4-day total wasn't even that much, including taxes and fees). We opted not to pick it up early. -I injured myself the night before, so my father drove my husband 45 miles back down to PHX airport to pick up the car on our schedule day. After waiting in line for over an hour, he presented his drivers license and credit card to the desk clerk, but was told they couldn't rent the car to him because it wasn't a MAJOR credit card. (NOTE: the Sixt restrictions and fine print we received via our Expedia reservation reads as follows: "The driver must present a valid driver's license and credit card in their name upon pick-up. The credit card is required as a deposit when renting any vehicle. The deposit amount is held by the car rental company. Please ensure sufficient funds are available on the card.") Nowhere does it mention a MAJOR credit card. - I called to discuss the situation but got nowhere with the rep, so I asked to speak with his manager. He said "Sorry, but this is not a management situation", to which I responded that it was, due to the fact that I was asking to speak to a manager. This went on for several minutes, until I said I was tired of screwing around and told him to get me his damn manger now. He replied with "We have a zero-tolerance policy for vulgar language" and hung up on me. - I called back, he answered again, and I politely asked to speak with his manager. He put me on hold...where I remained for over 15 MINUTES. Then a female got on the line and actually pretended that she couldn't hear me. "Hello? Hello? Is anyone there?" All the while I'm 100% certain she can hear every word I'm saying. I then get hung up on a 2nd time. -By this time my husband had gone to Payless Car Rental right next door and was already on his way back with a car for just a tiny bit higher per day rate. I called Sixt back a 3rd time and was put on hold once more., but I couldn't waste any more time with their childish and extremely unprofessional antics, so I hung up. LESSON LEARNED. I should have gone with my gut instinct and cancelled the reservation when I first had doubts. Saving a few bucks isn't worth the time, hassle, and frustration when you're supposed to be enjoying your hard earned vacation. read more

I am done with this place. I had a credit due to a cancellation during covid and wish I booked somewhere else. I booked a full size SUV which was a Jeep Grand Cherokee, Toyota 4 Runner, Chevy Blazer or similar. I got to the counter and he said all we have left in your category is a Subaru Outback. "We have noticed that people in this category don't like this so I want to upgrade you." He then tried to "upgrade" me to a BMW X3 (which is far smaller than a 4 runner or Jeep Grand Cherokee. He then tried to get me to pay more and take a BMW X5. I said "look man, I just want a full size SUV". I ended up taking the Subaru Outback, got down there and it was scratched all over and had bugs all over the front. I told them I wasn't taking that car and was given a 4 Runner with a massive list of damage too (10 items listed). We had never heard of this company before (they come from Germany) but Nascar races made it nearly impossible to rent a car in Phoenix when we went for a wedding. We found Sixt and got a car for 4 days for $250 when Budget was $800 for the same four days. We were skeptical, since we hadn't heard of them, so reserved a car at another place just in case. We got to Phoenix, and the counter person was wonderful. Checking in and out was quick and easy, the price was as quoted, the counter person (I wish I'd gotten his name! When I returned the vehicle, the agent circled a chip on the window. I said what are you doing ? He said "you won't be charged anything, it was probably there before you got it". My wife heard him say it also. Suprise , Suprise, I get an email from Sixt saying there was a claim submitted for damage, WHAT !? SCAM !!!!!!!! DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY !!!!! I reserved a Mustang convertible (or similar) and was thrilled that I actually got the Mustang (seems I usually end up with a Chrysler), and it was a new one at that. Good pricing as they try to break into the North America market. The car I reserved was not available so they gave me an upgrade. The poor girl at the counter was frazzled and threatening to quit to another employee -- but she took care of me. Returning the car was a bit of a pain because the attendant who checked you in could not provide a receipt. I had to walk to another counter where it was quickly taken care of. Staff was friendly, check in was quick and easy just needed to catch a shuttle to all rental cars in Phoenix, prices are extremely reasonable $145 including all fees and taxes for a week for a full size car. Was apprehensive about this inexpensive rental company but could not be happier. Upon arrival we were upgraded to a brand new Hyundai 2013 Tucson SUV with 14 miles on the od!! Sixt policy resulted in out-of-state driver's license validity rejection. I rented with Sixt online for my wife through carrentals.com. As with all licensed drivers in Virginia in 2020, she is upgrading from Virginia's standard driver's license to one Virginia began issuing earlier this year that is compliant with REAL ID. She went to the Virginia DMV, presented her documents and had her standard license hole-punched and returned to her and was issued a temporary driving permit to use while awaiting the new REAL ID-compliant license to arrive in the mail. Unfortunately, her new driver's license had not arrived by the time she flew to Phoenix. Upon arriving at the Sixt counter at 9:30pm on a Sunday night, the counter agent told her that her hole-punched Virginia driver's license and temporary driving permit were not recognized as valid by Sixt as a matter of policy. She was stranded. The only reason this is not a one-star review is that the counter rep called his buddy at Thrifty Car Rental, who agreed that the same documents were sufficient to rent a vehicle from them, though the walk-up fare was 50% higher than the already-high fare we had negotiated with Sixt. The counter rep said Sixt would issue me a full refund; we'll see. read more

My family very rarely is in need of a rental car, but we had relatives from Boston come visit and we decided to take a trip to Disneyland from Phoenix. Problem was none of our cars were large enough for 7 - my aunt & uncle, their 13yo & 2yo, and me, my mom, and 17yo sister. Though I never heard of Sixt before, their rates were the most competitive for a 3 day rental. We were shopping around in March for an August rental. Though they offered a large inventory to choose from (lots of luxury options!) my mom wanted a minivan to keep costs low. Reservation process was easy, all taken care of online and they even sent reminder emails letting us know the pick-up date was coming. The biggest challenge during the entire rental process was finding where the actual pick-up office was... I guess they're assuming only people flying in to PHX get rental cars with the way the signs are made... (hint: even for pick up, head towards RETURN, or take the elevator in Visitor Parking down to the one huge lot). My mom was the on that picked up the car, and she believes there was a $600 deposit, though we never saw the actual hold on our Visa. Once there, the woman behind the counter informed her that the minivan we requested wasn't available, but she'd be able to offer an upgrade at no additional cost.... after just 20 minutes, my mom drove off with a 2015 Chevy Suburban, a rental option that was at least $150 more for the weekend when we were booking the rental Needless to say, the car was a success, a lot of seating and storage space, and my mom said its a dream to drive. Plus, with the unlimited mileage, we had no worries for our trip from PHX to LA and back. The return process was just as simple as the pick-up. We had a representative look over the car, check the odometer, and we went on our way after just 15 minutes. Return happened on Monday, final charge to the card was on Friday, and final invoice was received the next Monday. I recommend renting from Sixt. I know they'll be my first choice in the future. read more
