We used the "call ahead" service and were seated about 5 minutes after we checked in- which was great since the temp was 20 degrees and you have to wait outside for your table. We shared a cinnamon roll which was enormous in size and taste. The Huey Louie and the stinky cheese omelettes were both prepared quickly and again large!!! I'll admit, I'd never heard of the place. I was taken here by the new ManThing, who had gathered enough information about me to know that I like good food...and I love a good breakfast. We were lucky. When we got there around 10am Saturday, there was a table open. Be prepared, this place is not huge. Maybe 10-15 tabletops. However, I didn''t feel as though I'd been shoe-horned in, there's plenty of space between tables. The menu is small, and Skillet's "thing" is that they are a farm to fork restaurant. Everything is locally sourced from Ohio, except for the bacon, which is from Indiana, because "it's damn good bacon." They didn't lie, it was very good bacon, cooked just right, still a tad chewy. I ordered the Goat Cheese and Fingerling Potato Folded Egg Omelette (and bacon). It was like the most delicious smashed potatoes you could possibly imagine, wrapped in fluffy egg. It was delicious, and I nearly hurt myself trying to ingest it all. I should note that the coffee was also spectacular. Bring your wallet, and your slightly more discerning taste buds. I came when they first opened, and as friends left the area, I only recently made it back. The food is (and was) delicious - and their hot sauce is that right amount of flavor and fire (for me, I know some of my friends will whine it's too weak, some will say it's too hot... so buyer beware). The sausage and biscuits, the cinnamon roll, ...everything between us... it was delicious, with good service on the unusually warm Friday we found ourselves in the neighborhood. We came for Saturday brunch expecting a bit of a wait since we didn't get there until around 10:30am. We put our name on the waiting list and two seconds later had our table! There are 5 tables for two and 5 tables for parties of four, so we imagine that if your party is greater than that, the wait will probably be much much longer. Our brunch started with a DELICIOUS Honey Crisp apple crottata topped with a little whipped cream. It warm, fresh, and not too sweet. Tiffany wanted to lick the plate... it was THAT GOOD. In typical fashion, we decided to share our main entrees. We split an omelet (sausage, red peppers) and hash (artichoke, potato, sprouts). Both were $12 each. The omelet had nice thick eggs and was not runny. The consistency was great and it was huge. Well worth the money. The hash came out on a black skillet pan and was piping hot. The juices collected at the bottom and made for a nice addition. While sitting there, we observed someone getting the gravy and biscuits - yum! They were smothered and looked delicious. I've been trying to come to this place for the past few months and for some reason I always try to come on a Monday, forgetting that they are closed. This time it was a Tuesday around noon. A perfect time to come I must add because of there weren't many other customers. The wait staff suggested some cinnamon rolls to start with. They were crisp on the edges and drizzled with a syrup. Sooo good with the coffee. I ordered the truffled grilled cheese on brioche with a bowl of lima bean soup. The grilled cheese was buttery, truffley, cheesey heaven and had some zesty arugula on top that complimented it well. The soup was great too. Skillet has spoiled me. Erin M. and I-- we're dining and shopping buddies-- have long been fans of Northstar's emphasis on quick, fresh, and sustainable food... but turned off by the price. When Skillet quietly crept onto Columbus's dining scene? We have a new contender. The same emphasis on local and inventive but at a significantly more college budget friendly price point. With a menu changing on a weekly basis and well over ten visits now, it's tough to pinpoint a favorite item. Their brunch standouts are definitely their pancakes-- lemon ricotta as of last weekend-- and anything served with their scrumptious rosemary spiked biscuits. Their grits are also killer, smooth and creamy but punched up with a large handful of sharp cheese and some amazing smoked tomato sauce. More of a lunch person? Amazing sandwiches. From the frita, a burger made of beef and homemade chorizo and topped with fried egg, to their jerk pork burger with sweet, vinegary slaw, you cannot go wrong. The soups are also a steal at $3 per huge bowl on average. The pumpkin-black bean may be the best, heartiest I've ever eaten and totally got me through Ohio's chilly autumn. Really friendly service. Super reasonable. Ample street parking. Only downside? Next to no seating. This place is tiny. Stake out a spot early when they open for brunch-- but not until after you order, please!-- or try it during the quieter weekday lunch hours. Oh! And the proprietors have a food cart now! I returned for brunch, and the food was a million times better than what I had for dinner a couple years back when I first dined at Skillet. I came as part of a group of 8 on a Sunday morning, ad we came early enough (before 10) that we didn't have to wait too long...the line outside looked much crazier after we got seated. For my dish, I ordered the smoked chicken griddlecake, served with confit sweet potato, poached egg, and spicy Hollandaise. It reminded me of eggs benedict minus the English muffin, and it was a gorgeous dish. Only complaint was that it was a very small portion size considering the price, so I scarfed it down pretty quickly. My friend shared some of her gravy and biscuits dish with me since her portion was enormous, and that was pretty tasty as well. Since I wasn't satiated from my dish, my roomie and I shared a griddled cinnamon roll, served warm with brown butter caramel and maple string icing. I simply asked them to cut it in half, and it was just amazing. I don't think I would've been able to polish off the whole thing, so splitting this with someone else is perfect. This was the final stop during a weekend of ferocious feasting in Columbus. We were nervous about going to Skillet lest the Easter brunch crowd overwhelm this diminutive establishment. Apparently, and much to our delight, all the churchgoers had filled up on the body and blood of Christ because we were seated with no wait at all right around noon. The meal got off to an inauspicious start when we scoured the somewhat concise menu for the corned beef hash we saw pictures of on Yelp. Alas, it was nowhere to be found. Fortunately, almost everything on the menu called out to us, so we persevered. We settled on the Hog & Hominy, Crispy Fingerlings, and the Lamb Sausage. I was a little nervous to try pork cheeks, but my GF agreed to hold my hand. It was amazing! And it went very well with the hominy and lamb sausage we cut up and added to the dish. The fingerlings were equally delicious, but we had to stop ourselves from devouring the whole plate in order to save some room for dessert. Our waitress told us the Salted Honey Pie was the best pie she's ever had, so we took her recommendation, but not without a huge grain of salt...I mean, she does work there after all. Suffice it to say, she was not being biased! This pie was out of this world good. It came with handmade vanilla bean whipped cream which was the perfect complement. Even the coffee was good and came in a fancy mug. We ate very well all weekend, but this final meal was both of our favorite. From all of the rave reviews, I should've made my first Skillet experience a brunch affair. But alas, scheduling conflicts meant postponing until dinner. I ordered the burger which was the highlight of our meal-- had some wonderful shiitake mushrooms. The side of "ramps" which appeared to be raisins and shredded carrots were a bit bland and felt deconstructed. My friend ordered the duck quesadillas which were a little on the soggy side and the side of charro beans were topped with too many pumpkin seeds. Eventually we gave up on picking them out. We got brown sugar cinnamon crumb cake & cheese taters as sides and yia yia's breakfast sandwich as main dish. The crumb cake was warm and has the perfect texture, unlike regular cheese taters deep fried in oil these are really unique with cheese & Brussels sprouts with right crisp, probably baked. The chicken sausage in yia yia's sandwich is very delicious, the eggs were perfectly cooked and served with nice bread. This is an absolute gem! We were in Cbus looking for something off the beaten path and a bit out of the norm and we definitely found it. I was so excited and it did not disappoint. It is such a tiny place but we only waited for 10 minutes. The atmosphere is super cool and I was surprised the noise level wasn't out of control with it being so compact. Out waitress was so attentive and I lived how you could watch the chef work. I got the "lipstick on a pig". It was toasted bread with a breaded pan fried pork chop on top that had mild cheddar melted on it along with a fried egg and andouille gravy. It was superb. My companion had the andouille sausage biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were "bird's head" and absolutely delicious. We went crazy overboard and got a grilled cinnamon roll as well. After being frozen solid at the Hot Chocolate 15K our group decided to come over and have some breakfast on a Sunday. I ordered the Goetta Hash and a side order of a biscuit and gravy. I am very full and satisfied at the moment! I've not had biscuits and gravy since I was a kid. I have been under the impression that I didn't like it and I couldn't of been more wrong!! Two of my friends and I came here on a Saturday for lunch. The wait was about 45-50 minutes so we walked around German Village with the trees in bloom. The place was much smaller on the inside than we thought which accounted for the long wait. It was obvious that they were very efficient though, clearing tables immediately and getting people inside. We all ordered a a griddled cinnamon bun to share and I got the maple-sage sausage gravy and biscuits. Everything came out within minutes. The cinnamon bun was big enough for the three of us to share, covered in syrup and powdered sugar. It was so worth $7, soft and sweet and the griddled sides added the perfect crunch. One of my friends ordered a crab omelet. The omelet and the eggs on the biscuits were cooked perfectly. The crab was in a creamy mixture with onions and sprouts. The biscuits were soft and covered in gravy. They also make their own chipotle hot sauce which I covered my biscuits in. Everything was so delicious and the employees were all so nice and helpful. Wow what an adventure First time here. Quite the experience. Pouring down rain, lots of road construction, parked 3 blocks and walked with broken umbrella. Signed in and waited (Saturday am very busy) Walked in. Relatively small space but quite filled. Ordered fresh orange juice and hot chai tea. Tried to order milk but they were out. We ordered cheese blintzes, chicken apple sausage, pimento cheese omelette, lamb sausage, and grilled cinnamon roll. As we waited, we guesstimate the final bill. If you don't normally eat mid tier breakfast, be prepared for sticker shock. Ours was about $50. Oh and high ceiling, small space, full seats, soundtrack, a bit in the noisy level. Out comes the food. If my eyes could have rolled back in my head, they would have. Every thing was so delicious. Best meal of 2018. Blintzes so delicate, omlette so fluffy. Adorable, little gem we found while staying for the weekend in Columbus! There was a lot of hype about this place and it held up to just those standards! He knew every detail of the menu and took awesome care of us! We started off with coffee, which was strong and served in adorable mugs. I can't believe that it's taken me so long to leave a review for Skillet. I've been a fan of this place for years. I've tried most of the items on their menu and I have never be disappointed. They say that they use fresh, seasonal ingredients when possible and for me, that quality is evident in the food. This is not an inexpensive meal for breakfast/brunch/lunch but I have always felt it was worth it. However, that does mean that they can run out of items from time-to-time, which can be frustrating. This is a small place; so waits can be long -- like among one of the longest waits for brunch for a restaurant in Columbus. It's been a while since I've been so this may not be the case anymore, but they offer coffee for dollar for those who are waiting. I get it, but that always felt a bit ungracious to me. Let me first say that yes there will probably be a long wait when you come to this place but it's totally worth it! Oh my gosh the food here is incredible. I love that they change the menu often so you're kind of forced to try something new each visit. During my most recent brunch visit, I got their version of "steak and eggs." Wow is all I can say. So, I've been trying to go to Skillet for several months now and I finally made it down today. I was prepared to hate on Skillet because I'm not a skinny jeans and plaid flannel wearing militant hipster locavore and the occasional review commenting on snooty service. We showed up just after opening at around 11:30 on a Wednesday, thus eliminating a big complaint many have about long waits for seats and food. We ordered the Mac and Pulled Pork, Biscuits and Gravy (I forget the real name), Brown Sugar Coffee Cake and coffee.... Holy. Freakin'. Cow. As my wife said after her first bite of the Biscuits and Gravy, "This is ridiculous." The Mac and Pulled Pork was great as well. The pulled pork was not really necessary and I ended up eating around the meat. Despite this, every bite of both dishes was fantastic. The coffee cake was pretty darn good. The service was friendly as well. As is the usual for us, we couldn't finish our meal and are anxiously awaiting the opportunity to crack open our leftovers. read more

We're in town visiting and Skillet kept coming up on the best breakfasts list- so we had to try! The menu changes based on availability of ingredients from what I hear- so each day has a unique menu. We had the Brown Sugar Cinnamon Crumb Cake to start- golly, this was great. There's we're only a few left at 930 when we ordered. It was served warm with ooey gooey buttery goodness. Then we had the Farmstead Cheese Omelet with a side of Cheese Taters- so much cheese. The corn salad on the omelet was great. So I was upset on Mother's Day for brunch because of the wait. But, it was Mother's Day lol, but the wait was so worth it! The shrimp grits was so good. The sauce was season to perfection! I'm from Cleveland visiting this was a great sauce. Saw the reviews decided to try it out, boy was I happy! The cinnamon bun you have to take home lol. Skillet is absolutely fabulous and I highly recommend making a stop here when in Columbus. The food is locally sourced and lip-smackingly delicious. We had rosemary spiked apple cider, the biscuits and gravy special with goat sausage, the brisket skillet, and the cheddar jalapeno grits. Everything was exceptional. Some things worth noting that people may get worked up about - though I would recommend trying not to, it's all part of the charm! (1) It's pretty small, so I definitely recommend calling when you are on your way to get your name on the list (they don't take reservations), especially on the weekend. However, regardless of how long you have to wait to procure a table, it is so totally worth it. (2) The menu is not as expansive as most, due to the ingredients being local and the chefs wanting to master a smaller number of items. I think almost everyone should be able to find something they enjoy despite this. (3) It is a bit pricey if you are only looking to spend money on a run of the mill breakfast. But, this is no regular breakfast, and again, with the ingredients being locally sourced, a higher price tag usually comes with it. Once we were inside, we ordered a griddled cinnamon roll to split. He got the lamb chorizo biscuits and gravy, and I had smoked brisket poutine. Both of our meals were out of this world. My brisket was tender but still had some burnt end pieces that I loved. My BF thought the biscuits were perfectly baked and the gravy was unique and delicious. The cinnamon roll was warm, buttery and crunchy around the edges that were on the griddle. The potatoes in my poutine were perfectly cooked and seasoned really well. Honestly, we were both kind of speechless after our meal. We had been to Skillet for lunch before and had a good experience, but I feel that breakfast is where they really stand out.
