Skillets is a great place to go for brunch here in Naples. They have a few locations. The one I frequent the most is located off of Collier Blvd. The best thing about skillets is their consistency, which they display in many forms. First their hours are pretty consistent, they're open from 7am to 2:30pm daily, so you know their specialty is brunch and lunch foods. Their food also is pretty consistent in quality and taste. I can always count on their potatoes (baked with cream cheese) to hit the right spot no matter which entree I choose. And boy do they have a variety of entrees to choose from! I've had the pesto omelette which was pretty good (except the sun-dried tomatoes were a bit tart), other omelets, and a couple of their frittatas. My husband always opts for the eggs Benedict, which clearly never disappoints him. Their payment system is such that your waitress brings you the check but you pay at the front desk on your way out. Skillets has been reliably good, that is up until this last visit. We rotate them in our weekly breakfast club. Sadly after our most recent experience, we won't be returning. What appears to be a common complaint in past reviews, if you are unhappy with your meal, the response from the chef is basically too bad, that's the way we prepare it. Don't expect an apology. Don't expect the manager to check in. Don't expect any offer of even a partial refund. In summary, you better like your meal because Skillets doesn't care whether you do or not. Hey listen....we are year round residents, there are many spots in our Saturday breakfast club that are awesome. Excellent food, service and value at places like Original Pancake House, Blueberries, EJ's on The Bay to name a few. Additionally, they appreciate us as customers. We just ate at Skillets at this location. My husband had an omelette which was OK. I had Gravy with sausage and biscuits. My meal was terrible it came out of the kitchen room temperature. I sent it back to the kitchen and it was slightly warmer that was it. The sausage and gravy was tasteless, the biscuits cold and hard. The eggs warm. The hashbrowns we're good. First let me start off by saying that this has been one of my favorite go to breakfast places for years. My last two visits have been less than pleasant. I normally go to the location over on Airport and the food and service is always fantastic. Last week I came here for breakfast. When we first arrived we were sat at a table that still had the tip on it($15) We told the manager when she came over and she replied with, "it's okay, your waitress will be over to pick It up." Um, are you joking? In a perfect world you would hope that everyone would be honest and not take something that doesn't belong to them, but that's just not the case. I could have easily pocketed that money if I wanted to. YOU NEVER SIT CUSTOMERS AT A TABLE WITH MONEY ON IT. That's just common sense. The French toast was a little undercooked and the eggs benny looked like the hollandaise sauce was just heated up in the microwave and thrown on it. The scrambled eggs on the skillet were fine the hash browns were pre-cooked cold in spots and overcooked in other places which made them impossible to eat since they resembled plastic. **SKILLETS IRONY!!**MISLEADING MENU! GO ELSEWHERE!** I have been to many dining establishments and I usually can adjust my expectations according to the place. As a local resident, our family has been here a handful of times (along with the other Naples locations) and usually have been able to enjoy Skillets for the atmosphere it projects. Usually, the super nice and cheery disposition is what I had in mind. Today's Sunday breakfast experience should have been no different. I expected a simple, no frills easy breakfast at a local establishment that we occasionally frequent. My family went to Skillets and I was very much looking forward to ordering a corn beef hash skillet. Naturally, that was my order. A Corn Beef Hash Skillet. This is when the next set of events ultimately set the tone for the rest of our breakfast experience. Upon delivery of my order, I was given the Corn Beef Hash Platter. That plate consisted of the corn beef, hash and the over easy eggs to be laid out platter style. Clearly, that was not what I had ordered. I ordered the skillet. As soon as the waitress brought it to my table, I rejected the order, as I had ordered the Corn Beef Hash Skillet. 3 minutes later, the server came back and delivered the exact same plate, except with the food contents now layered on a ceramic skillet!! When I mean layered, it was exactly that. They simply took the initial plate they had given and simply stacked the contents on top of each other ( potatoes, corn beef, eggs). After staring at my plate in disbelief, I knew I had to say something. When our server came to inquire how our service was, I questioned my order and directly asked her if they had just relayered my order. The response was a solid "yes", followed with a "that is how we create our Skillets here". Well. Let me say, their version of a corn beef skillet falsely identifies with the mere definition of a skillet. In fact, they should not even name it a skillet, since their definition of a skillet is a simple layering of food stemmed from a platter. Their platter is essentially the "deconstructed" format, while their skillet is the "constructed" format. It's funny, the name of the restaurant is "Skillets"- yet their execution of a breakfast skillet does not even coincide with the simple definition of a breakfast skillet, let alone a Corn Beef Hash Skillet of sautéing the potatoes with the corn beef so the juices and flavors can marry together nicely, and then finished with a set of over easy eggs. Simple, right? When I explained to our server that my idea (along with the general population) of a skillet was all the components cooked together with the eggs on top, she said that wasn't done here. I left it alone and realized it was a moot point to continue any further discussions. Well. The server must have felt my disappointed vibes, as she approached her manager. In about two minutes, Darlene, the manager came over to ask how our meals were. The only difference was that her approach already was defensive in nature, as she already knew my issue. While she did offer if the kitchen could make anything else for me, I said no. At that point, I did not have an appetite for anything at that restaurant. As I was not touching my "skillet", she took my plate and as she began walking away, I happened to catch wind of her stating , "I'm sorry you didn't care for it" in a sarcastic tone. Let's bring this exact scenario to Basic 101, "Learn to speak to a customer." This shows me that she didn't have the tact to deal with the situation accordingly. The manager removed my order from the total bill. And rightfully so, since I didn't even touch the "skillet". After dealing with the manager in the manner that I did, the following are my observations accompanied with solutions. Darlene should take a class in customer relations and brush up on her people skills, as her managerial competence in handling altercations did not embody a true "manager". Clearly, a customers valid expectation wasn't met. Instead of coming across as defensive and rude, one should become a bit more understanding and receptive to customer issues. Lastly, their definition of a skillet should be re-evaluated, so that it becomes consistent with its true meaning, thus leaving less room for confusion and misperceptions. After this dissertation, one can gather that my experience was less than pleasant and left a terrible distaste. This has been a real eye opener, because I refuse to spend my dollars at a place where customers are not treated well and their concerns are not properly addressed. As a manager of a dining establishment, it is your job to understand the value of a customer and to rectify the situation in a positive light. Thank you for the learning experience. This was my first time going to Skillets and I really enjoyed the food but wasn't really satisfied with the service. My order was half wrong, and an item that was ordered was completely missed, but they still put it on the tab. It was hard to get the waitresses attention also and we were also given our checks in the middle of a meal and the waitress did not come back after she dropped off our checks... Which is poor service, as we were still eating and needed boxes to go and a couple of more items. We had to get her attention for what we needed because we were sitting around for about half hour. Usually, that doesn't bother me, but because of the errors that disappointed my table and I, we just ended up getting a little more upset. I wish I had a better first experience here! read more
