Was passing trough Kemah and decided to stop in a random place Skippers Cafe seems fitting the bill since we were next to the coast. Super hungry and of-course I over ordered but gave me a chance to taste different items on the menus. Stuffed grape leaves, biscuits with gravy, Greek salad with Gyro meat. Was not disappointed with the food service was a bit slow but not bad at all. One thing I didn't get a chance to take a photo of was baklava that was delicious no time for photo....I've tasted a couple different ones this has to be my favorite. This place is great! I had the omelet and grits, my family had bacon and pancakes. It was very delicious! Judging how packed it was we knew it must be good. Even though It was packed there was still room to move around and we were seated pretty quick. Wonderful and knowledgeable server. There is also golf cart parking so it was convenient for us to pull right up. We Were told about this place by a local friend and are so glad we checked it out. I really wanted to like it. But it was decent. I had some egg shells in my omelette and I just couldn't stomach it after that. I didn't mention it, because it totally happens, and I really wasn't liking the flavor of the eggs, so didn't want to get anything else. My husband also got an omelette and said it was "OK." He got a side of pancakes, and although they were huge and looked good, they were pretty bland and a tad bit chewy. I will say that my son's biscuits and gravy were pretty good! They were HUGE and that flavor ans sausage was spot on. It was a good alternative to IHOP, since we had gone for breakfast there the day previously, and wanted something different, but next time we will just do IHOP every morning. read more

I love this place! The coffee is good and they have espresso! The food is good, I mean consistently good. Each and every dish. The people are awesome! The staff is friendly, helpful, observant and ready to serve. I was so impressed by the young people at this establishment. They are all well mannered and so polite. Skippers is always busy, with good reason. But you don't have to wait long to get a table or to get waited on. Great breakfast spot. Oh man try the pork chops! You won't be disappointed. The owners are Greek and have some traditional dishes on the menu that I must go back and try. So many good choices. This is a gem of a place. Haven't lived in the area long and came here for the first time today. Omg, the gyro omelet with feta! It was a so good. Husband got kielbasa and eggs, he loved it. They are very, very busy but everyone is smiling and moving fast and they get you seated quickly. Casual, family atmosphere. Great, fast service, Alma took good care of us and kept the coffee and water topped off the entire time. I was able to get fresh sliced tomatoes instead of the grits or toast, so it worked well with keto diet. Definitely one of my new favorites as they have a great selection of Greek food including dolmadakia. Will probably eat here almost every weekend. read more

I've been going to Skippers for a very long time and always thought the service and food was great and a reasonable value. It pains me to say of my fav neighborhood joint but lately the food is subpar and the prices have gone up. The service is still great. I understand food prices going up. I just do not understand food quality/cooking deteriorating. Food tastes like it's cooked in old grease. As a service, it was great! It was true southern hospitality with some nice Texas style seating and decorations. The prices are also very reasonable, however, I do have to rate the food at the end and that was pretty average. The chicken fried steak itself tasted good and so did the gravy, but the eggs were unseasoned and the grits also needed some salt. We went out to breakfast this morning and ended up here. The parking area is super full and crowded. The restaurant looks small from outside but it is fairly large inside. The waitresses are fast moving and your coffee cup is always filled. There is no wi-fi!!! What is with so many places without wi-fi??? The coffee was excellent. The sour dough bread is not grilled but rather it is toasted which makes it very hard and crispy. I had the 3 egg gyro omelette with feta cheese. The gyro was tasty and they were generous with the feta. The home fries were not crispy and just meh. My wife and daughter liked their plates since they both love corn beef hash that is crispy. My son in law had the pancakes which were very good and thick. My grandson really liked his pancakes and my granddaughter liked her thick bacon. I sampled the sausage patty which was less than meh. No taste and definitely not spicy. Now about the men's room. It's small and tight especially if you are a large person. This is a group 4 star review but if alone I would rate it 3 stars. read more

First time to visit Skipper's. Wanted a home cooked breakfast and read enough reviews to think we'd get it. Not quite. I ordered the gyro omelet with feta and tomato and home fries. My husband ordered sausage gravy and biscuit. Omelet was definitely the "wow" factor of the visit. The gyro meat was perfectly seasoned and the feta melted to a creamy, salty addition to put it over the top. That's about where it dropped off. Everything else was average with no special qualities. Home fries were precooked and reheated with NO seasoning that we could detect...I actually had to salt mine twice. Sausage gravy tasted like a mix or can variety. Biscuit tasted reheated as well and probably previously frozen. All that said, we'd still return for another visit. The menu mentioned lots of Greek dishes at dinner so we'll return to try those next time we're in the area. read more

Skipper's is slipping. It used to be one of my favorite places to eat in Kemah. This morning, I ordered a Western Omelet with home-style potatoes and toast. The first bite of the omelet had egg shell in it; and the last half of the omelet was undercooked with slimy eggs. Ick. The home-style potatoes used to be delicious but, today, they were tasteless. I left half of the omelet and all of the home-style potatoes on the plate. At least, the toast was tasty. My husband ordered a waffle with bacon. We both had coffee. For this meager meal, we paid $28, not including a $5 tip. The waitress did her job but the cook and the management failed to do theirs. Never again. read more

They cooked the eggs just as I ordered it, the potatoes were more a hash than a hash brown (which I prefer) but still very good because they were seasoned well. Bacon was just so and so, some pieces almost like jerky, but ok. But the pancake was delicious. More cakey, but that's the way I like it; and the flavor was delicious! They have a excellent mimosa for the price so I didn't get around to trying the coffee - maybe next time. The orange juice they use is perfect, but would be even better with a little pulp. The Family Feel is very inviting as you walk-in.....We had a fairly large group with rambunctious kids and they were accommodating to our needs. FOOD on the other hand is AWESOME! Although we went for breakfast some of us ordered off the lunch and dinner menu....Let me start by saying their prices are very affordable for the portions they provide. I wish I took pictures but my phone wasn't charged But that didn't discourage me from leaving them with 5stars which they are very worthy of! What I did see some of the family got was the biscuits w. We live in Kemah and have always enjoyed breakfast at Skipper's. However, we will never eat there again. Although we are not huge Joe Biden fans, for a place of business to have a bumper sticker and small banner saying "Let's go Brandon!", you are eliminating a large part of your clientele. This was a hidden gem until our trip to South Shore Harbour Resort this time. We come regularly to the resort but rarely venture out for breakfast or lunch. I'm so glad we did this trip. Skipper's is amazing! Our waitress Deirdre was excellent!! The mimosas were strong and tasty like they should be. The service and environment were intimate and fun. Wow. I invited two friends to meet here and it was seriously the worst breakfast Ive ever had. The omelet and home fries potatoes tasted exactly like fish. The whole thing was inedible except for the dry toast. The home fries were mushed up, not cut like regular home fries. I dont know what the fish taste was, but it wasnt good. Can't go wrong with those items for breakfast and skippers make them well. The ambiance is very chill and kind of like your on "island time" type of vibe. My daughter and I had lunch on a weekday although the menu tends to favor breakfast selections. She had the catfish and shrimp special and I had a club sandwich. The catfish and shrimp was good, but surprisingly the French fries were not (I've had better frozen "fries" baked in the oven). It's difficult to mess up a club sandwich (and they didn't). I had onion rings and they were good (a better option than fries). The service was fine, quick and personable. I entered on a Saturday with nearly 10 guests and despite being packed, the staff worked to seat us as soon as tables became available. So the service is a 5 for me! Food: We ordered various items from the breakfast sandwich to pork chops and French toast. All of it was delicious! The eggs were fresh, the bacon was tasty, the gyro omelet made my heart happy. The only drawback was with the fajita beef and eggs because the meat was too tough to even chew. However, when my friend told the waitress about the toughness of the meat, they quickly subbed it for bacon! Drinks: All fresh drinks which were delicious and the Greek coffee woke us up for the ENTIRE day! The icing on the cake besides the cheesy birthday song was the waitress being friendly the entire morning and they were super busy!
